Hi, I booted into the stock recovery by holding down vol- / power and once I saw the Android box screen, I pressed the home key.
I can move through the options but I can't select anything. Anyone know how to select?
Power button?
That's the first thing I tried.
The home key again?

The search key selects in clockwork, try that.
Thanks for the suggestions, but none of them work. Maybe that's why the stock recovery is useless? I did find that holding power / vol + will reboot your phone. The home key just seems to hide/unhide the menu selection.
Also no matter what key combination I try, getting into the menu always requires a format, wipe of data, wipe of cache.

Same here.. there isn't even any confirmation before it happens. Pretty lame.

I was attempting to install a new ROM and after performing a data wipe and wiping cache, a message came up saying E: unknown volume for path [/sd-ext] Back menu button Disabled
Dalvik Cache wiped.
Whenever I try to install a zip from sd card, the recovery screen goes blank and only the little box and android images remain.
What can I do to fix this?
You are supposed to use the power button to select the zip file. Are you?

Yes, I am. I can move around the first group of options freely but whenever I click any of them the screen goes blank. Pressing the power button again just brings me back to the first screen.
Just reboot into recovery by Adb. You disabled the power button selection. Now it will only shut the screen off. I normally just cycle through the menu andbit will come back on. But a reboot will fix it

To you and the OP, when this happens, press both volume buttons at the same time to re-enable the power button to make selections.

This is great info. I have always re-booted when this happened to me. Luckily, it was never when trying to recover from a boot loop.

I think u have to keep pressing(not hold) volume up(or down) to reenable the selection key. It will tell u if it did.

I've quoted the OP here but didn't really see an answer to this issue. I am running Unnamed 2.2.1 and don't really have any problems with the rom itself. I just notice this if I clear the dalvik cache.
Anyone know what this is?
edit: oops, I just realized I was not in my phone's forum. sorry. Anyway. any thoughts? I searched to try to find a solution and this is the only thread I could find that addressed the issue.
I was trying to reset my phone to stock and was having problems, so I tried to follow the 3e suggestions.
I successfully get to the screen where I can scroll down (using the volume keys) to "wipe data/factory reset" but I can't get the phone to actually run that option.
At the top it says "Enter: OK Key. Select: vol UP / Vol Down"
that's fine but what is the "Enter" button?
I tried the power key, and all the buttons at the bottom but nothing works. If I hold down the power key the phone just reboots.
Any ideas?

Edit -- forget it, it was the Home key I had to press. I'm sure I tried it before but now it is just working.
The home key is enter in 3e.

I found instructions on how to wipe data/cache for xt926 by holding volume up + down + power and selecting recovery, then hold volume up + down when android guy with triangle comes up. Can someone with a xt925 on rogers/fido give it a try. When I tried it, i can never get it to go past the android guy with triangle. I wonder if rogers/fido gimped the recovery on purpose...

Are you on ICS or JB system ROM?
I have a Rogers XT925 and was able to do the VOL- and VOL+ buttons simultaniously. Actually, I held down the VOL- button and pressed VOL+ and it worked for me.
FYI, my qe is 0/0

On JB now, which is why I need to wipe data/cache. After the OTA to JB, my phone just burns the charge in like 6 hours, someone suggested to wipe data and cache.

I would say to let it run for an entire day without rebooting. You night be stuck building your media cache. I've seen that in the past.

Also, do you mind sharing the dummies step by step on how to get to the recovery menu, tried again, still won't go past the android dude with the triangle icon.
Thanks!

Home button doesnt work because you need to Trim your rom before you flash it so files don't get overwritten when flashing gapps with it.
If you can't access recovery then go into developer settings and tick advanced boot menu
then click & hold your power button and click reboot
then it will give you options
recovery
bootloader
reboot
just tick recovery and it'll automatically go into cwm
Hello,
I had an issue of my Nexus 5 restarting whenever I tried to unlock the screen. Since, I have searched several websites and found that I need to do a factory reset to fix the issue. And, I followed the below steps:
1.If your phone is on, power it off.
2.Press & hold Volume Down and Volume Up, and then press & hold Power simultaneously until the device turns on. You will see the word Start with an arrow drawn around it.
3.Press Volume Down twice to designate Recovery mode.
4.Press Power to restart into Recovery mode. You will see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark.
5.While holding down Power, press Volume Up.
6.Use the volume keys to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and press Power to select it.
7.Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data" and press Power to select it.
When everything is completed. I tried restarting the phone by clicking the power button, and what I see is the Boot Animation . Waited for an hour, two , three and five. Still i see the same. Please help me. I tried to search for similar posts with no luck.
Thanks in advance.

Stock recovery wipes everything AFAIK so your user data and the OS are gone... You have to flash the stock build (factory images) or take the opportunity to flash a new recovery and a custom rom.
EDIT: maybe not I actually never used it.

It doesn't touch /system or /boot. Only /data, but not excluding /data/media like custom recovery would

Oh yes I remembered there was a difference regarding the wipe process. Thanks for the clarification.
