Reboot and freeze with Locations - HTC Desire S

I had some reboots and freeze during HTC Locations premium navigation. Anyone has a similar problem?

After 30 min. Google Navigator navigation (with data and bluetooth enabled and vehicular charger connected to maximize heat generation) no freeze or hangs... maybe a Locations Bug or a defective microsd

LG O2X vs. Desire S
Sorry to steal your thread, but seem to have both Desire S and LG Optimus 2X.
How would you compare them?
I'm interested especially in display usability outdoors. I have seen some information about comparative brightness here: http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_desire_s-review-590p2.php (a table in about middle of the page).
But that contradicts some other reports I have seen (like Desire S having better display than Incredible S which some users reported). And also that one disregards reflexivity of displays which is very important outdoors.
I'm also interested in non-obvious build quality differences.

Outdoor performance are noticeably better on Lg ips screen: the Sony Superlcd is poorly readable (but usable) on direct strong sunlight. On the bottom line LG screen is NOT usable at all in landscape if you use polarised sunglasses (you cannot see anything).
Build quality is better on Desire, noticeably better on loudspeaker (LG one has very noticeable distortion on hight volume). On LG the flashlight cover hole is a open door to the dust: if you cannot fix by yourself by home made rubber gasket you can notice dust under the camera protection after a couple of days.

No problem for me. Thank you.
Did you notice a difference in how much a battery lasts (for similar use patterns)?

I have the same problems with locations. It freezes when I move around in the program.
After routing for app. 30 min, it either reset the phone or just close the phone.

today i had two 30 min. route without no problem, but i don't have played much with options. Maybe re-downloading maps and repairing memory card filesystem has fixed the issue

not yet,for not a long time via using...
but who knows whether this can happen to me...

Does your Raphael heat up while talking?

I have noticed a major heating sometimes when making a phonecall, and I mean it becomes really hot...
Im not using the GPS what seems to be causing overheating to some users.
also please post your radioversion etc if you have this type of problems...
Make sure you don't hold the phone near where the battery is. If you look at the manual you will be exposed to dangerously high radiation levels! If you cover it with your finger or hand the phone module goes into high power mode which could account for the heat problem.
Well yes I did some investigating and it does not happen always. I think it could be happening when taking a phone call after charging. By this I don’t mean it’s hot when unplugging the device, it keeps getting hotter and hotter while speaking.

What, my package and manual are put away. Sorry, I didn’t understand 100%, where I can’t place my finger exactly?
I looked at the manual and did not find anything unusual… What did you mean?
There is a wiki nearby, with links to the on-line manuals
(the part below the battery is where the antenna is )
Ok now that you said antenna I found the part from the manual, if you look at the previous post he says only don’t hold your finger near the battery…. The battery is ½ of the phone…
But seriously am I the only one that thinks this is TOTALLY crazy that if you hold your phone normally from the bottom half you will be exposed to DANGEROUS LEVELS OF RADIATION??? I have had mobiles for 15 years and this is the first one that cant be held in your hand without looking how you hold it…
Are others also experiencing overheating sometimes?
Yep, I said 'battery' - if you look at the picture in the manual (page 10 - see attachment below). The danger zone is bottom 1/3 of the back surface area.
As far as i'm concerned this device should not have had certification and approval for use because NORMAL handling includes the bottom part of the phone. They expect you to be at least 1.5cm away from it too so in practical terms it is extremely difficult and inconvenient to hold. If you hold the top part your palm will cover or get near the bottom anyway so their constraint is ridiculous.
I wasn't aware of this when I first used the phone and I remember my fingers getting hot with a sharp pain.
This device should therefore NOT have safety approval because the context of operation does not include normal and reasonable handling.
So you have to ask yourself: is the HTC Touch Pro worth getting cancer over?
Yes I found that page after I searched the manual "antenna"... That just sounds crazy to me...
But still I don’t know did the SERIOUS overheating I had resulted from that. I couldn’t replicate it... It could be it was caused by the charging before I answered.
I have to pay more attention to that, because I think I had it happen before also.
excuse me, topspeclt, but if you are that worried, why do you use a mobile phone
The top of the phone got really hot. The steel around the camera lens was so hot I could not keep my finger over it… I don’t know, am I the only one experiencing this type of behaviour?

I used a Nokia N73 prior to this and no probs. So I'm in for a little dosage. But the handling contraint with the TP is a joke. I end up using the headset now because I can't maintain the ridiculous holding position without receiving hazardous SAR levels.
My observation is one that affects ALL users of the HTC TP and not necessarily other brands.
Had I known this BEFORE I bought the HTC TP I would have skipped it. Damn good for nothing 'Reviewers'.

That doesn't sound right at all. My TP doesn't get that hot. You might want to swap it (if you can) or call HTC support.
I have to duplicate it and see when exactly it happens…
I’ve noticed it happening few times, but didn’t pay that much attention to it because I use the HF when I’m not home. I started to use that a year ago when there was more talk about the radiation. I talk about 2hrs a day, so the tumours are probably on their way already. Its much more convenient anyway to use the HF.
I got full warranty so I will chance the device when I have confirmed this.
I have to say also that I came from Kaiser WAY too soon… I should have given the real cooks and wizards of XDA few months to find and fix the major bugs for HTC (mind you, they are doing it for FREE to them). I just got a too good of a deal; I got this device almost for the price of my old Kaiser.
No one is experiencing heating around the camera flash/lens area when talking?
Plase confirm so I know do I need to return the device.
I have the same problem sometimes. But it is not conected to making phonecalls. I expreienced this temperture phenomen while browsig the web (wifi) and I think some other situations.
I'll keep an eye on that problem and let you know when it happens again.
I had this problem with my xda orbit 2 as well (when using tomtom while the phoen was plugged in for chargching)

Perhaps a visit to HTC service centre?
I haven't had this extreme heating yet.
The TP becomes warm while charging, GPS use, Wifi, and even calls, but not to that extend that you can burn your fingers on the lense area.
I think your TP has a hardware problem.

My first TP have battery problem and really heat up at the camera metal area when using call/apps. I got a replacement and the new unit don't heat up so fast or so much.
First of all, I don't think that you can possibly expose yourself to any dangerous levels of radiation, no matter how you hold your TP. The SAR tests are done anyway with maximum transmit power, so if you hold your phone from the bottom part and so impair the reception the phone gets, you can only get the official specified SAR levels at most. It does increase battery usage (hence not recommended), as the phone needs to use more transmit power, but the SAR levels are definitely safe - always at or below spec. The design were the phone antenna is at the bottom of the phone is actually very advantageous from SAR point of view, because the antenna element is further away from your brain --> less radiation. However, I do agree that for best reception (holding the phone from the upper part) the handling of the phone is a bit awkward. HTC probably just put the "dangerous levels of radiation" warning there to keep off any possible Americans waiting to sue their a**
Also, looking at the back part of my TP, it seems that the Wifi and GPS antennas are at the top of the phone, so getting hot around the camera lens/upper area while using these features should be expected. Again, I think this is actually quite a good setup, as the phone and wifi/gps antennas are as far away from each other as possible, thus interference between different antennas is kept minimal.
Oh yeah, and you should definitely not burn your fingers on your phone, there's something wrong if you really did (it can get quite warm, but not that hot).
Just my 0.02
My TP aint that warm, but it does get a little warm when playing games but not hot, only a bit warm.
Time to put fans into mobile phones

[Q] What are your major issues? Sending to an Asus tech

Guys, I've been talking to Hai one of the techs at Asus US for the transformer. He knows I'm on xda a lot and thought I could be a huge resource for him to discover the most common issues people are having with their transformers. He knows a lot of us are power users and wants to help out xda'era as much as he can. So reply to this thread with any issues you are having and I will report back to him the most common of the issues. I also *****ed about how little their call center knew. My initial email to him actually spurred a meeting internally on how they can better train the techs in the call center (which he told me is in Jamaica)
Thanks

I just gave you a thanks for helping to promote & solidify Asus's relationship with this community! If Asus can keep this behavior up, their products will continue to fly off the shelves, such personal support is unheard of it seems in an android world where cell phone & now tablet owners wait forever for updates and help.
screen flickering when playing via HDMI out,
resolution only 720 p.
My issues
1) The speakers and sound playback on this device is lousy. The right speaker is louder than the left. The overall music playback is of low fidelity and low volume.
2) Touch screen doesn't register clicks religiously. I can reproduce this on any damn browser, on the XDA forum home page consistently.
3) Asus keyboard is very very slow. Instantly switched to the Android one
4) Browsing and multi touch is not smooth on the default browser. Its better on Opera n Firefox though.
Issues related to YT playback are known and hopefully will be fixed with 3.1. Also, it would be nice to know when 3.1 would be available for TF.
P.S Please let your friend in Asus know that people are really freaked out by the length of the damn charging cable Asus offered
Thanks for your efforts
I got 4 times the screen goes black and could not turn it back on. I havd to do force shut down then it turned on
-sleep of death issue
-wifi seems to shut not down correctly
-high battery loss of about 3% per hour while screen off, but only sometimes. Xoom loses only about 0.5% average per hour.
Thx for your post and efforts
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Battery performance in standby is poor if wifi is set to stay on when the screen turns off. This is unlike the Xoom, which gets equivalent standby performance (<.5%/hour burn rate) whether wifi is set to stay on or turn off when the screen turns off.
My guess is that the TF's wifi is not going into a sleep mode when the screen turns off and thus burns excessive battery life. The difference is <.5%/hour if wifi is set to turn off and >3.5%/hour if wifi is set to stay on.
Again, note that the Xoom does NOT exhibit this behavior, and that my Xoom and my TF are both running (mostly) identical apps, email syncing, etc. The only difference between them is the Asus apps that run in the background, but I've run tests with those shut off and they're not the cause of the difference.

You could leverage the poll in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074190
About half of the users reported touch screen issues at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068569
Sent mine in due to significant light bleeding around 3 sides. Seems to be a bit of a problem for ASUS, if this website is any indication.
Well here's a little list you can send. Can't comment on the support staff issues as I've not had to ring them myself.
Things needing to be fixed:
Tablet:
Speaker balance still off. (louder in right speaker on some devices)
Wifi model still displays 'mobile network signal' battery use bar even though no GSM/CDMA/HSPA chip exists.
Notable video camera 'screen delay'.
MyZine FC issue.
MyCloud settings icon does nothing.
Browser intermittent FC's.
Slow default browser page refresh rate, resulting in occasional artifacting.
Home screen 'bounceback' issue.
Tapping 'Install' in the market sometimes opens a random app.
Sometimes the device doesn't wake from standby, when using the default lock screen. There seems to be various forms of this bug. >Some possible fixes to get around this bug include: do a forced power off (10-12sec power button hold). Wait 30 secs. Then turn on as normal (5-6sec power button hold). Then just turn off the lock screen in the settings; Remove all Asus widgets from the home screen<
Battery usage data not showing proper list.
Parts of touchscreen unresponsive at times. - no known cause
MyLibrary app closes itself when corrupt/not compatible files found. (Asus developer feedback on this HERE)
HDMI only outputs at 720p. Possible flickering screen issues.
Speaker 'pop' issue. After a period of inactivity with the speakers, and then suddenly they are required to play a sound, a small pop is heard, before the rest of the audio plays properly.
Dock:
Drains its battery even if nothing is plugged into it.
Tablet disconnects from dock at random times.
No way to tell the level of internal battery.
While plugged into the tablet, and in standby mode, the battery drains fast.

I just sent the following e-mail to an Asus Tech earlier....let's see what they have to say.
was one of the lucky people to be able to order and receive a new Transformer last week. However, I have noticed some issues that I am currently worried about and I hope that someone can address for me. Some of them are product quality issues, while others are technical issues. Any information or feedback that can be provided about any of them is greatly appreciated.
1) When I power the device on, there seems to be a crackle that comes from the speakers, perhaps caused by them receiving power. Is this normal behavior or something that I should be worried about with my speakers crackling or being blown in the future?
2) I notice that there are a lot of "creaking" like noises when the tablet is held in certain positions, is this normal?
3) My device would not power on earlier today, and it took multiple pushes of the power button, but after about 12 tries and holding it for over 40 seconds, it finally powered on, even though I never powered it off. Is this a known issue that will be addressed in the next software update?
4) This is more of a complaint than anything, but the charging cable provided with the device is extremely short. Can you offer any add on products that can increase the length?
5) I have read that a lot of people have had problems with dust underneath the screen. While I have yet to notice any dust underneath the screen, I do notice that on the top left and bottom left of my device, there is a somewhat large gap between the bezel and the screen itself, which could lead to dust problems in the future. The gap on the left is significant, while the gap on the right is non-existent. Is this a design issue with all of them, or have I just received a defective product?
All in all, what can Asus do for me in order to alleviate these problems that I have already encountered with the product? I have also just recently purchased the Keyboard Dock, which I have read various accounts online of it also having issues. Will these issues be addressed by Asus in the next firmware update? I have multiple Asus laptops, and this is my first Asus Tablet, and although I was very excited for this product, there seems to be a lot of problems being encountered with it...
Any information that can be provided would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

About the sound not being even, he knows about that. That's why he rma'ed mine. While a lot of people think it's a sw issue he isn't sure. Hence why he wanted mine asap to troubleshoot it since none of the units in the office do this. He thinks it could have been something with a batch of them if of is hw. He also knows about screen bleed. So keep them coming and at the end of the week I will email him.

not a huge issue in the scheme of things but offering the Transformer & dock in a choice of colors would be awesome. The brown/bronze thing happening here really doesn't show the device off to it's best advantage.
I took my setup to work, everybody thought it worked beautifully but several commented on the fact that they thought the color is unattractive and asked if
it came in anything different.

Personally, I love the bronze finish. Kinda tired of looking at everything black n white
Photographs do not display as well as they should; colors are muted and they do not look as sharp as they do on my PC monitor. I have tried a couple different apps but they all display the same and given the great screen on the TF this is definitely not acceptable.

+1 . I observed this issue too

all triumph problems are here... do you need to exchange?

GROUND RULES:
Who should keep reading:
Current owners of Triumph or perspective buys who are trying to cut through all the trolls, flame wars, useless and/or misleading information from the (many) other threads, to find out what or if anything was wrong with their phone, how to identify these problems and most importantly, how to make intelligent decisions on whether to return or exchange before the 30 days run out.
Who should stop now and go read a book instead:
People who have (or think they have) perfect phones and feels it’s necessary to defend the Triumph’s honor at any mentioning of a problem. People who believes everybody else is clueless therefore it’s necessary to advertise basic settings changes as cure-alls (i.e. enable “use wireless networks,” it will fix your GPS problems). please give others more credit than that. And last but not least, people who hate the T and thinks it’s just the worst phone ever made… you have no reason to stay here.
Still with me? Good…
I have personally owned two T’s. the first one had several problems that I ended up returning, the second one was much better but not problem free. I also have access to two other T’s owned by friends. Everything I post here are based on facts that I have personally observed, not second-hand info or hear-say.
** GPS problem:
First of all, Google Map does NOT depend on GPS. Being able to see your location on the map means NOTHING when it comes to GPS location. In order to test if you have a GPS problem you have to either use an app like GPS Test or start Google Navigation. All tests should be done outdoors under open sky and while you have a valid data connection (for A-GPS data download). The GPS should lock-in within 2 minutes or less (Google Navigation should start showing your real time location as a blue arrow and start giving you turn by turn instructions).
A few minutes after a gps lock, you should have a location accurate to within 15ft or less. If google nav consistently shows a visible blue circle (of any size) around your current location, then it is unable to give you an accurate location lock, it is a problem.
If you have any problem at all with GPS lock or location accuracy, your phone has a broken GPS. Take it back for an exchange! Do not listen to people saying that you could fix it by running some magical software or do a special gps dance. You are wasting your time. If it wasn’t broken in the first place then you would have no need for those “fixes.” My first phone had an almost unusable GPS, the replacement and both of my friend’s phones have no problem whatsoever. Using GPS Test app, I was able to clearly see how the satellite signal levels were 30-50% lower on the previous T when compared to my OV, while the replacement had levels that are comparable to the OV.
** Data disconnect and/or drop to 1x when GPS is turned on.
I did not notice this behavior on any of the 4 Triumph I tested on. GPS and wireless signal can not interfere with each other, so if this happens consistently and is making data connection unstable or GPS lock problematic then there’s most likely a hardware problem. the phone should be exchanged.
** Screen flicker, white out, color cast:
If your screen ever turns white completely, or has a VERY heavy color cast, the answer is obvious, get it exchanged. meanwhile, all Triumph’s screen have overall “cooler” color when compared to my V. there were slight variations between each phone but as long as it was not extreme (i.e. making white look blue and red look purple) it should not be considered a problem. Just make sure you have removed the top layer screen protector before making a judgement.
slight screen flicker while turning on/off the phone repeatedly might not be worth an exchange for that reason alone. My first phone and one of my friend’s phone had the flickers, while my replacement and the other friend’s phone did not. The slight flicker did not both me or my friends at all.
**screen protectors:
Yes, there are two screen protectors. No, there’s absolutely no reason to keep the top layer. The second layer is very well applied and I doubt it’s meant to be taken off. You will never be able to apply another protector as well as that. If you have screen sensitivity issues, I’d suggest exchanging the phone rather than taking off that second layer of protector. None of the 4 phones I tried had any sensitivity issue with the protector attached. If you had to take it off then your phone has a problem.
** visible touch screen sensor elements:
If you can see “dots” on the screen under normal use, you are seeing the sensor elements embedded in between glass players. You should NOT be able to see them in any way during normal use. Exchange the phone if you do. it was a known LCD panels manufacturing problem on some earlier phones (mostly HTC). None of the Triumph I have seen had that problem.
** Signal level:
All four of the Triumphs had lower signal dbm numbers when compared to my OV. However, with my borderline coverage (-105dbm at home and -110dbm in the office), I had not experienced any drop calls on the T. Data connections were marginal but no worse than the OV. Do not make any decision based on dBm numbers alone. dbm is a relative value and do not mean what a lot of people seemed to think it means. In any case, exchanging the phone is not going to help in any way.
** WIFI disconnect:
I have not run into this with Triumph however, I had similar issue running AOSP rom on my OV while having no problem with other roms. This is likely something caused by the combination of router and phone software. My suggestion would be to try as many different routers as you can also try router settings such as G vs N, WEP vs WPA, hidden vs broadcast… if you have same problem everywhere then by all means try an exchange, I doubt it would help however.
** Touch button in sensitivity:
This happens randomly on all the T I have tested. It is likely a software problem that will not be fixed by exchanging the phone.
** Camera clicking while focusing:
All 4 phones had slight clicking noise while focusing but none had trouble actually gaining a focus. Exchange if you can’t get it to focus at all. the clicking seems to be normal however.
** Camera color cast:
None of the phones I have tried had problem with “green/blue color cast in the middle of the screen” as some have reported. If you have already removed the green screen protector on the camera itself then you probably have a real problem and should exchange the phone. just check your expectations – cell phone cameras have cheap plastic little fish eye lenses. Don’t expect results like your Canon or Nikon.
** phone stops charging while on:
I noticed two things: 1. some micro-usb chargers such as the one that came with OV would at times refuse to charge while the phone was turned on. Unplugging a couple of times may fix it. I haven’t had problem with stock T charger or the charger that came with my BlackBerry. 2. The charger will shut off once the phone temperature reaches 42c. this is most noticeable while in a hot car with phone on the dashboard. This is normal and is the result of an (over)sensitive overcharge protection.
** light leakage around bottom edges:
All the phones I have tired had various degrees of light leakage. It is consistent with problems reported on other versions of the same phone released earlier. the leakage was only visible in relative darkness so personally I did not think it was worth worrying about.
** Mismatched MEID:
To check your phone’s MEID, go to settings-> about phone -> status. The MEID should be an 18 digit number matching the stickers on the box, outside of the battery door and behind the battery on the back of the phone. Both of my phones had mismatched MEID. The phone itself was showing a 17 digit number while the stickers all have 18 digit numbers. an 0 in the middle is missing on the phones. One person (VM rep?) in an earlier thread had said VM was aware that 3,000 phones had this MEID mismatch so it seemed to be a known problem.
Some people have reported trouble using Google Voice on phones with mis-matched MEID. I have not been able to verify that myself.
** software version 38 vs 39:
Both of my Triumphs had version 38 software. the previous one had horrible GPS and some screen flickering while the replacement did not. There were also some obvious software differences between the two phones, despite the same software version. The replacement phone camera default to 5mp, while the previous one default to VGA resolution. The previous phone gallery had four random pictures referencing some Chinese websites (seemed to be leftover web cache). These pictures were in the ROM and did not go away after hard reset. The replacement phone had an empty gallery. One of my friend’s Triumph came with v.39 software which also had some screen flickers.
By itself, the software version did not indicate a good or bad phone. test everything!
The main thing to keep in mind is that there are many reported problems, not all of them were all that crucial. Given the obvious inconsistencies in build quality, it is a real possibility that the exchange would turns out to be much worse than the original phone. you really have to look long and hard at each problem and make an educated decision for yourself. Meanwhile, there’s absolutely no reason to put up with major things like a broken LCD or gps or insensitive touch screen. Take it back to the store!
This list was put together over several days, mostly as notes to myself. So please excuse me if it rambles a bit. Let me know if there’s something else you would like me to check.
Thanks and good luck.
I never even realized the 2 screen protectors but sure enough, they are there. As far as the light issues at the bottom of the screen, I definitely see it on mine as well.
microphone is awful.. sounds like there is tape on it. i checked, there isn't.
Heading to exchange it.
awesome write up. thank you sir
Another issue I just found out Im having is with my bluetooth. I have a Jawbone Icon and the sound seems overloaded. When I connect my older motorola BT headset to it, it works fine. Strange indeed!
My 30 day return period ends this weekend so I have to make a decision. GPS is really the only problem I have, and it is intermittent. I was hoping a software fix would come out so i wouldn't have to worry about exchanging.
As far as my bluetooth issues with the sound overpowering, I actually just bit the bullet and bought the a MOTO BT today to see how it would work. No issues. Fishy...
my biggest problem is that i cant seem to be able to stream music properly in google music. does everyone have this problem or should i exchange?
I even had full bars yesterday, and it was barely sputtering out any music.

I doubt that is a hardware issue. Probably a result of VM's network. Try running a speed test app and see what kind of speeds you are getting. I prefer "Open Signal."
the speeds i got on all the tests were all drastically different. I say an average of about 350kbs...is that normal?

do you think i should deal with the battery problem and keep the samsung ?
or i abandon my screen ,weigh ,size preference for the more advanced camera and the faster processor of the mt4gs ?
I don't know anything about your phone - so keep that in mind.
Blind recommendation - yea, switch to this phone. Why?
I love the hardware keyboard. Keeping my screen real-estate while typing is nice, and not pressing the wrong keys while as a passenger in a bumpy car ride or something is happy. A hardware keyboard is a necessity for me and i'll never own a smart phone without one.
Screen size - keeps the phone with a smaller profile, width and height-wise, meaning it fits in my pocket better and also in the camera case I keep it in...without having to go up to some big, bulky camcorder case to have a zippered, dust-proof container to store it in in my pocket.
Also: the tv-out function with just a set of ipod video cables lets me hook up to any tv with rca (red, white, yellow) jacks on it...off setting the smaller screen size from time to time.
Not knowing the hardware specs of your current phone, the MT4GS is pretty beefy in that department. Also, not knowing the dev situation of your phone, I can't comment on that, but we now have all of our parts from HTC so that we can do whatever we can make it do.
There are some dedicated developers for this phone, and more will trickle in as people aquire this piece of hardware.
Something about battery life: your biggest complaint. Honestly, anyone's biggest complaint about any smartphone.
You will need to get an anker aftermarket battery, at least. Check the thread on it here, and then check amazon for prices. (you get the one marketed for the HTC sensation, it's essentially the same device.)
The anker battery will give you a little less then twice the runtime of whatever you get from your stock HTC battery for this phone. The stock HTC battery is beyond crappy, it's dangerous to run in the phone over a long period of time because of how "stupid hot" it gets...which does damage to the unit over time.
I'm not saying that to turn you off to the device, but because i'd want you to have it for a while and the HTC stock battery will be a roadblock to the longevity of the device in your hands. It's fine for the first couple of weeks, I guess, but anything longer then that and you're starting to get into shaky territory.
(maybe yours won't get hot, who knows, but the original run of batteries from HTC were less then desireable).
Again - I don't know anything about your phone, and seeking a battery solution in your sub-forum here at XDA ( I assume there's one for your phone?) would be the first step I would take before thinking about moving on to something else.
You sound like you are happy with your current phone, and don't want to switch, but if you do decide to move up(?) to a new phone, this is something I know i'm happy with - and after you get over missing your old phone i'm sure you'll love too.
You may not like the same things I do, and that's cool. Hope this was helpful, just some thoughts about your question.
my major concerns about the mt4gs are
-the battery life which apparently has a solution as what you mentioned
- the smaller ,less sharp LCD screen which change colors up tilting
-the heavier ,bulkier handset
-and the gps which is not assisted GPS
other than that it is more advanced than the samsung galaxy 2 4g which runs android 2.2,has only 1 GH processor and 512 Ram

This is, in fact, not true.
See my link in my sig for a very detailed explanation of this. I have a fix in that thread, which came about as a team effort between Undeadk9 and myself. His patch in dev is a little different then mine in my thread, but they both work well.
Also, in my GPS thread, I explain in a very detailed fashion how to tailor your AGPS configuration down to the precise region you happen to be in at the time, and how to correctly use time-servers in regards to AGPS configuration, if you want to further lock your signal down to your location.
The gps configuration file in it's stock incarnation is not configured correctly.
The MT4GS has both true, off-grid GPS capability and on-grid Assisted GPS (AGPS) capability.
so the GPS "problem " is fixable ?
could you post the link to your thread ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226707 <- my GPS thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1270339 <- Undeadk9's GPS mod in the dev section.
Both threads have a flashable-zip solution.
I know if you're on tapatalk or something you can't see sigs.
Also, my AGPS configuration information will work for any phone that has a gps.conf file like the MT4GS...which is probably any android phone on the market today.
(not the patch, just the information and how to make the edits)

What he said, and yes this GPS problem can and has been fixed thanks to the team effort by blue and myself. GPS is flawless for me. Went to Cali and back using google navi. It never dropped GPS and it locked super FAST. I would say GPS issue is a thing of past.

Everything that bothers me/what I love about the Mix 3

Hey together. I have been using the Mix3 for a few month now. The black 265GB variant, China version with international Software.
But I got to say that there are a few problems I wasn't able to solve. Maybe you can!
So here is the List
Love
Screen ratio
MIUI
The overall Look. Gave it to a friend so he can call someone... Damn this phone looks good!
Position of Volume-rocker and Powerbutton
Wireless-charging
Not that good or worse
Thickness
The battery lasts barely a day (medium use)
The AI button... I hit this one too often by accident
No pocketdetection. The screen activates too often by accident (while calling, in the pocket or just picking up)
While calling you got to position the speaker very near to your ear, because if you move it a bit you can't understand the one on the other side anymore
inconsitent strength of the magnetic slider (sometimes it moves very hardly and other times too easy)
connection delays with bluetooth devices. If you did not connect a device in the last few days you got to manually connect the device (click on it in bluetooth settings)
If you got solutions for my concerns you can maybe safe it from getting abandoned or beeing forwarded to my brother
agree on AI button - hate it! especially in phone case it gets triggered too often just holding the phone
any way to mute that button or change it to another usage? I think I can only deactivate the google assistant itself, but it keeps reacting starting it up and asking to enable the assistant again

Totally agree with the AI button thing, I click it ALL the time by accident it's super annoying. There is a thread on XDA for changing the functionality and a Magisk module as well. The Magisk module is for the Mi 9 but may work for the Mix 3 as well, not entirely sure on that. I haven't experienced the Bluetooth issues though, and I have the global hardware (6 GB RAM 128 GB ROM). My Bluetooth works flawlessly. The slider does feel a bit inconsistent, not sure how/why but I rarely use the selfie camera anyway so it's not a big deal for me. I feel like the battery is pretty average for a smartphone, nothing great but not bad. I can usually get through a day with it and its better than my V30 so that's a plus. Hope you're still enjoying the phone overall!

No problem
Personally, I don't have any issues with the thickness and actually, it makes it easier to hold with my large hands. I have had thinner devices, like the LG V30, S9 Plus, and Note 9, but they just feel like toys by comparison.
The AI button isn't an issue for me. I am not rooted but I have used ADB to uninstall Xiaomi's when I was using the Chinese ROM my device came with and used ADB to remove Google Assistant when I installed the Global Stable ROM. I have no issues finishing a day of very heavy use with about 10% battery left using both SIM slots simultaneously. On average, I finish my day with about 30% left, but I do travel often, so those days, I spend more time watching YouTube on planes and texting more than anything else. I have used ADB though to remove a lot of bloat that can run and waste battery life.
I don't use Bluetooth devices at all so i can't really comment on how well or how well it doesn't work on the Mi MIX 3. However, many devices do experience Bluetooth issues for various reasons. Firmware updates for cars or the Bluetooth in the device itself is usually the more common answer. No manufacturer is exempt from these issues.
I definitely agree with the earpiece. Because it is technically set in the bottom part of the device, it has to send sound straight through the other to get to your ear. If your ear is right over the hole where this comes through, it's fine, but it does take some getting used to and makes it hard to rest the phone on your shoulder and still talk on it.
I haven't had any issues with the slider. From the day I got my device, the slider has been stiff and robust. I often use it just fiddling around as well. The magnets pull and push feel just as strong as the day I opened the box. I also haven't noticed the screen being on when it is in my pocket and have never had my screen on when removing it from my pocket. I do have double tap to wake and lift to turn on the screen disabled though. Perhaps it is one or a combination of both of those settings causing that issue for you.

I have some issues with MIUI as well. Would they stop me from buying another Xiaomi device? No.
Tue stock apps suck! The default Messaging app doesn't support rotation and doesn't display group texts under those in that. It splits tue group texts under their individual threads. Changing Messaging apps leaves me with notification sounds that can't be changed because Xiaomi developers are stuck in the years of KitKat with how their sounds work!
The change to not being able to lock the bootloader when switching ROM's is probably the worst I can think of. I get the reasoning behind the change but I bought thebChinese model as the Chinese model because I wanted more RAM.
MIUI settings are also lacking when it comes to restricting roaming from one SIM but not the other.
My T-Mobile plan works in multiple countries and I want that to roam when outside of the US. My Telus SIM though is insane for roaming so I don't want that SIM roaming but I want that SIM left enabled to see who calls and texts.
All that said and a few more gripes. The Mi MIX 3 is still a superb device and one I don't regret buying.
Notifications are awful. I have yet to have a notification display on the lock screen. When I do receive new mail or an SMS message, it can take up to 40 minutes before notifying me if the screen is off. If the screen is on I get the notification within a couple of minutes but that is only if the screen is on. Screen on means the screen is being displayed and the lock screen has been dismissed. It does not mean that the always on ambient display is on. That is just as bad as the display being completely off which makes me think that the problem lies with the phone being locked and is not just an over aggressive doze problem. I am using the notification repeater app and I also use Auto-notifications with its notification categories feature. Both of those have helped a little bit but it is rare that I get a notification within 10 minutes of my phone receiving e-mail or text messages when the screen is off (10 minutes is actually good).
There is also an issue with Android calendars. These aren't the calendars attached to your gmail account and they are not local calendars as well. Android calendars are usually created by 3rd party apps that offer holiday calendars for every country, sports scedules for every NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL and NCAA teams (motor sports and European football in some apps). The apps that also create TV listing calendars create their calendars as Android calendars. Any calendar app for Android can display them and you can choose to display or hide them individually within any android based calendar apps. Not with MIUI though. I can see them in the settings of any calendar app I install and can set them as hidden or viewable but they will not display as a calendar in any calendar app. MIUI has a few nice features but it is not worth the lack of timely notifications and it would also be nice if I could actually display all of my calendars. I have gone the custom GSI route and there were issues with every GSI based ROM I tried. I could install every GSI ROM I tried. I could even install Resurrection Remix GSI without a problem (repairing and resizing the system partition so you can install GAPPS is easier than most people realize. I kept running into deal breaker isssues with each GSI ROM though. I don't remember what the issue was with BlissROM but I do remember taking half a day to try and find a work around to no avail. Pixel Dust had an annoying random reboot problem and Resurrection Remix seemed to work just fine until it randomly would display a Setting up phone message after logging into the phone at a very random time. It would sometimes do this somewhere with the first few hours of use but could go as long as a day and a half before doing it. The only way to get past that screen was to get into the phones settings and clear out your fingerprints and set the phone to not require any type of password, pin or pattern. Once you clear those out the phone will continue to boot. If you want security you will need to setup security again and you will find yourself doing this all over again anywhere within the next hour too 24 hours. This is a known issue and there is a thread about it. It is a ROM issue because it is doing it on many different brands of phones. It is doing it very randomly though and the developers of the ROM have not had it happen to one of their phones yet. It makes the ROM unusable for those of us that are running into it though which is why I am back to MIUI (eu version) and in my opinion, MIUI ruins what would be a very good phone experience.
The pocket detection is occasionally driving me crazy, it's an issue on the PE rom too. The settings pull-down is active even on the lock screen, so while it's in my pocket it will sometimes turn wifi/bluetooth on or off, etc. I'm hoping the Cyanogen rom will eventually improve this. Only seems to be a problem for me when the radio app is automatically activated when I turn on my bluetooth headset.
Bluetooth connection also causes me some minor irritation. It won't auto-connect to the A2DP unit in my car, although it does connect to the phone module. I've been looking through the configuration files trying to find something to tweak this, but the structure of the current roms makes finding anything useful almost impossible.
AI button, also a hassle, but it can't be that bad because I haven't bothered to install the Magisk module to remap it yet. I much prefer a button to call up the assistant rather than "ok google".
Battery, I have no idea what you're talking about, but I guess it depends on what device you came from. This device is far and away the most battery frugal I've ever had, by a long shot, and the speed of the wireless charging makes it even better.
I never have a problem with the earpiece, but I do remove the lint from it fairly regularly, maybe that's the problem? If anything, the sound on calls I would rate as way better than previous phones.
My slider mechanism is also variable. Sometimes it's perfect, other times it's hard to get it to slide, but I think it's more to do with the friction from my fingers than the mechanism itself, sometimes the surfaces feel super-slippery! Give me cheap, rubberized plastic and a removable rear cover and battery every day of the week!

I guess you are right there with the point from where you came from. In comparison to my "old" Huawei Mathe 10 Pro the Battery is bad. But on the other Hand the Mix3 has (fast) Wireless Charging :good:
I checked the last weeks my Battery stats and usage. There was nothing uncommon. To me it is not satisfying, especially when I am on a trip (like last week) I barely made it back to the Hotel with a few % left.
Just to get this into Context (for most of you tl;dr):
Listening to music for 2 hrs
Navigation for public transport - also active for 2 hrs
checking Mails - hard to measure
searching for a place for diner - 20 min
checking social media... every minute is too much
In my opinion this is an average usage and therefore the battery is considered bad to me.

Appreciate that tipp, but I don't use any case. (Why buy a pretty phone, when you put plastic around it?!) *screen is crying silently in fear :crying: *
Love the phone. The screen, everything. Running Lineage at the moment.
Really hate:
Notifications on MIUI. Seriously.
The process around flashing roms. Vendor image, dirty flash doesnt work (at least for me), switching roms difficult. Just very, very tiresome.
Would I buy it again? Definitely.

Mine is running rooted crDroid ROM, which allows me to address most of these points.
Thickness: this is a tradeoff for sliding display.
Battery: crDroid is very good battery-wise, but also installed magic module LKT and get easily 1.5 days of heavy use now
AI button: Used magisk module and button remapper APK to remap mine, for me single press does nothing (because like you i press it accidentally all the time) double press toggles flashlight and long press launches google assistant.
Pocket detection: You can enable this in crDroid settings
Holding phone to ear: I don't have this problem
Slider: My slider took a bit of wearing in. That might sound strange but it was a bit squeeky and felt weaker than it should be to begin with but after a few months of use it now feels great.
Bluetooth delays: No idea, never use bluetooth. Sorry about that one.
