Netflix only on Snapdragon? - T-Mobile LG G2x

So allegedly Netflix will be coming to Snapdragon first - any estimates on how long before it will be available for G2X?

can u provide us with a link/source of that ?

Have you tried PlayOn? It's got Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and more. It works great over Wi-Fi and decently on a strong 4G signal. I use it for Hulu a lot and really like it. There's a 14 day free trial and they sometimes have discounts floating around so do a Google search.

I thought the whole reason why we didn't have a Netflix app already was because the Snapdragons didn't support DRM, which the Tegra 2 devices did.
I don't blame them as there are more devices with Snapdragon processors then there are Tegra 2 at the moment.
But I think they are just pulling crap from their ass and making up stuff at this point. Obviously all current phones can watch this stuff and it is a matter of them "allowing" it. The easiest solution would be to stop blocking user-agents of our mobile phones like Hulu and others, and just let us use our Flash-embedded browsers to do it.... or just create a Flash based app like the so many Netflix-Que apps.
To say it can't be done on this or that just tells me they are either too lazy to do it or being paid from someone not to do it.
I find it very frustrating when I pay for a subscription and their site says I can't watch it on a specific device. I've eye-balled Play-On for quite some time but never taken the leap but looks like they want my money.
Edit: Here's the Netflix.apk

Thanks for the apk

It installs but logging into Netflix is like winning the lottery. I haven't gotten past the login screen because it times out. I don't have time for crap either. Hopefully someone really wants this to work and posts the results.

Netflix Android app?

Has anyone heard any new news on the possibility of a Netflix app that streams video on Android? I don't know about you guys but I really really want it! Are there still issues with security and whatnot?
Just curious if anyone has heard anything. They need to get this done!
Still just hearing more about security crap..

Ya, started watching Scrubs from the beginning last night and it'd be awesome if I could pick up where I left off and watch it on breaks and lunch on my phone while I'm at work. Could kill like a season a day lol
I'm assuming this will be a super noob question as no one ever asks but going to ask anyway.
Why is the Hulu fix/hack/edit any diff than this? So long as we can fool a browser into think it's a full desktop, why couldn't we stream through that instead of depending on an app to do it? #flamejacketon

I can't give a definite answer but I would assume that any content would run smoother/better through the app then a hacked browser.

this.
Besides, this same thread has been posted countless times, a simple search would've shown that. We are waiting for it to be released by Netflix, as our processor has the necessary security needed for the app to be released.
I do believe though, that we will have to wait until the LG Revolution is released to the public before we can get the app, as I suspect LG and Netflix have an exclusivity deal going, so LG can sell some phones.
Then again, I may be and have been wrong.

I had noticed the last flick I streamed on my laptop used Silverlight, (as far as I knew that was new) but definitely makes sense. Flash is hackable, SL is not.. Got it, thanks.

Netflix on android won't be using silverlight though. It could use Moonlight http://www.mono-project.com/Moonlight, but support for that on linux is far worse than flash and would probably be even more of a battery killer, so I'm guessing they will port whatever they use for iOS on the iphone/ipad to android.
There's no way the iphone version of netflix (which has been out for a while) uses silverlight (jobs would never allow that), so I am guessing they will probably just use the same libraries for android that they have for iOS and create a wrapper around that with java to create an executable.

Netflix has always used silverlight, at least as far as I have known. And yareally
is probably right about how they are going to go about it.
The main reason why Winmo 7 had/has so fast netflix is because of silverlight and the native ability (I believe) for it to run on winmo.

Hulu Plus for Android

Just thought I'd share some news I saw this morning:
Hulu Plus for Android
Hopefully, we will see the Thunderbolt added to the compatibility list... or maybe a Dev will take a look at it.
+1, I have a HULU subscription and not a Netflix. I have been waiting for this and of course the T-Bolt is not supported but My X that i sold. "sigh"...Please HULU or devs....make this work, i will be forever greatful.
Has anybody tried to download the apk and install it on the Thunderbolt? Is it the same error we originally had with Netflix? (Unsupported device)

Could someone explain in terms if hulu and netflix, what makes one device compatible and another not. I mean the tbolt should be better in every aspect than the droid x (hence my upgrade) yet it works on that device. Someone mentioned that it works on the HTC inspire. How is that different than the tbolt?
Just hack flash and run it in the browser, works just fine there

The app checks the phone model and refuses to run if it isn't on the built in whitelist. I am sure there will be a patched .apk with the device check removed soon.

That sucks even more. I thought there was some real technical hardware or software reason but thats just plain model discrimination.
Wonder how HULU decides on this wish list
Thats what I dont understand... Isnt the HTC thunderbolt and HTC Inspire have the same specs besides the Network bands... Why release for the Inspire and not the thunderbolt??
how do you guys have netflix? is it from GB?
Hulu Plus appears to be available for Froyo phones, good for many of us (Inspire and Atrix I know are both on Froyo)
One would think someone will hack it just like Netflix. Who knows how these companies are deciding what devices to support but it's frustrating!
There has been a hulu hack out for a while now. I have been running hulu since the hack like 2 months ago. If you are rooted you can use hulu

After reading through someone's logcat while running hulu plus, it only seems not to work because it's sniffing your phone type. Just need to edit the app to not detect it or as mentioned already, change your build properties. I dont have hulu+ so can't really find the solution easily myself.

Coming from wp7, android fragmentation can definitely be frustrating. Seeing other devices run something you can't is just part of android I guess. Not to mention that some games won't ever come to the bolt either.

Skype 2 video available

The latest Skype update for Android is available to everyone, but it only enables video chat on four specific handsets. Fortunately, impatient modders have gone some way to correcting this profound injustice, by creating APKs that activate video calling on other handsets too. So far we've heard of successful ports on the Samsung Galaxy S II and the HTC Sensation, Thunderbolt and EVO 4G. If you've got some other handset with Android 2.3, a little experimentation with the APK might also be worth your while. However, we just tried it on an Xperia Arc and didn't get very far: the app ran, but efforts to communicate with an Xperia Neo resulted in one-way video, a locked landscape mode and plenty of awkwardness. Let us know if you fare better -- you'll find a Thunderbolt-specific download at the DroidLife source link, and a more general APK at TechPetals.
http://blogs.skype.com/en/2011/06/smile_skype_for_android_with_v.html
Figured I would drop this in here if anyone has some know how and wants to look into it to see if there is anyway for us to have this on our phone. Doubt it though considering it requires 2.3 which seems to be the standard for google video chat and stuff, but hey, its worth a shot!!!
Found some more info. Tested and still didn't work but apparently on our device but confirmed on the SGS2. Here is the link for the guy who got it working.

Yeah, one of Google's big thing at IO was that they wanted to eliminate the fragmentation, yet I haven't seen anything to indicate they're taking steps to achieve this.
Unfortunately it's one big advantage Apple has... they take a hard line position that the carrier doesn't touch the OS software, nor prevent the deployment of the updates. Not sure why Google is such a wuss when it comes to holding the carriers accountable for the timely delivery of their updates. AT&T says it's because they have to ensure a quality user experience, but comon, what AT&T customer actually believes that crap? LOL

hey, this is gonna sound like a really dumb question and way off topic but can you tell me how your notified when someone posts. I personally have to try and remember the threads I participated in and see if someone replied. This seems very redundant but I don't see a better way to be notified. Thanks in advance

The only true advantage that Apple has over Android is that they only more or less support one device. Android is spread amongst how many different devices? It's easy to put out lackluster updates to a single device, but putting out updates to 20+ different devices isn't so easy.
how are you guys even getting it to install? is it actually working?
yes please, can any one confirm that the video call on Skype is working on the infuse?

no it is not working. installing the custom apk does give you the video call option, but if you press it, it goes into landscape to prepare for video call and then it does nothing. gingerbread is needed since it uses the frontfacing camera api.

Yes, my phone's battery started draining in about two hours after installing Skype, so I uninstalled and things are better again now.
Even if Skype supports video on the Infuse, I don't think I will start using it unless they address the battery usage.

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about a justin.tv or twitch.tv app?
All I could find was a kinda dusty thread on the twitch.tv forums.
Probably the only thing I really miss having on WP7, gotta have my fix for Starcraft 2 streams and others. I remember ustream had an app, but it was pretty awful and I can't even find it anymore.

i guess it is because the streams that justin tv handle are flash-based. Someone correct me if im wrong. I don´t know about the stream protocols on ustream, but since wp7 has no support for flash, a workaround is needed... even though, there are apps for sites like the old megavideo, i guess an app like that is a start point in terms of code...
Our last hope would be to wait until the release of windows phone 8, where there'll be support for native code. In that case it will be easier for someone to code such app...
But like you i certainly hope that this arrives soon to wp7 cuz i love to watch my favorite channels on jtv too and i'd love to be able to watch them while in the subway, when going to, or from work... cuz i do almost 2 hours daily just on transport

Question Does the Google Pixel 6a Requite a Custom ROM?

So with this being my first Google phone since my old Nexus 5 from back in the day, I'm beginning to question if there is really any need to run this phone with a Custom ROM like I have all my previous other phones? For whatever reason, there doesn't seem to be as much active development for this phone, like there was all my other older phones like my Poco F1 which was fantastic throughout all the years that I owned that phone.
For me personally, there's only a couple things that I'd really like to have on this phone that I'm unsure whether or not I need to root my phone or not. The first of these is Youtube Vanced. Youtube Vanced has always been fantastic as it allows me to play audio from videos using my headphones and my phone on standby in my pocket as I carry out tasks at work and around the house. Can this still be done?
The other was Mobilism. There were a bunch of applications like Sleep Cycle Pro and Smart Audio Book Player that I absolutely loved on my old phone where I ran ArrowOS.
Is it possible to run these applications without having to wipe the entire ROM of my phone and switching it with something else? Or can I simply get away with rooting my phone?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks a bunch.
Vanced is now "rebranded" as ReVanced. No need to root for that, you'll have to install microG to be able to log in tho.

Follow this guide.
ReVanced is still in very early development.
You can either grab someone's .apk from r/revancedapp, or use their patcher to install only those functions that you truly need.
I'd also recommend definitely sticking to the non-root variant, as the root version has the tendency of corrupting itself and randomly rebooting your device.

Are you aware that Vanced/ReVanced has tons and tons more features beside just ad-blocking?
None of these happen because "people use the "freedom" for piracy," we get endless ads and paid services because companies are greedy & after a while they know that there's no real competition out there for them -- so why not charge the users? What are they going to do? Stop using their service? Not an option.
