[Q] email notifier - General Questions and Answers

Not necessarily a chat client.
Is there a email notifier (for gmail and yahoo) that will run on CyanogenMod 7.0.2 ?
That will simultaneously log into multiple gmail and yahoo accounts and display the Subject line of new email messages.
So that the Sender and Subject are displayed.

I don't think so....

Email Syncing/Updating Question

Hey guys, in the default Android e-mail application (between phone and browser on the home screen), I have two accounts listed: one for my Yahoo mail and the the other through my FSU school email account (non-outlook). When I receive a new Yahoo mail, I'll see an entry for it on the notification bar and I'll go and check it out. Not so with my school email account. I simply don't get notifications when I receive a new email into that account. Is there a way to change is?
I don't care about syncing things with gmail or any of that stuff. I just want to receive a notification that I have new FSU mail like I do when I have a new Yahoo mail. Thanks!
Justin
Is the account set up to check regularly or manually? POP or IMAP?

As per my knowledge There is only mail client which support pushmail for all of three you mention. B'coz you may find many for gmail, but yahoo is concern there is only two real push mail client is available. One is yahoo mail(from yahoo itself). But this is for yahoo only. If you want single client for all of three, just find 'seven Beta '
latest version of seven (7.54) having widget support too.
- other features available is you can add corporate client/AOL and many too
- you can pause / schedule for push mail
- Auto pause with certain condition e.g power < 15% / roaming
- Assuarance - I have used it > 3 yr and it has never disappoint me
Checkout k9mail

Email client
Look in the first post for push settings for Hotmail and Gmail. Yahoo does not have any push capability that I know of but you can have Yahoo check for emails every 5 minutes. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988902

Twitter Push with Gmail

The absence of a Twitter app that supports push notifications annoyed me for quite some time now. There is no news or whatsoever on when this function might arrive for Android, so maybe we're waiting for a thing that may never happen or only in the distant future. My Twitter app polls each 10 minutes for new messages, which is draining the battery. Setting it to a larger interval means that it takes more time before you can answer your DM's or @mentions.
So when I yesterday recieved a mail from Twitter when I got an @mention, I got the feeling that I could do something with that. I use a Gmail account for my Twitter account, so mails from Twitter will be pushed in seconds to my Gmail account. But my Gmail is always on silent, no sound, no vibration, because I recieve to many mails to allow that. I had to find another option to alert me for Twitter mails.
I made a second Gmail account, the naming is arbitrary ofcourse, in my case [email protected]. Add that address to the Gmail App on your phone (open Gmail app, go to Menu>Accounts). Now you have two accounts in the Gmail app, you can switch by pressing the name of the account in the upper right corner of the Gmail app.
For both accounts you can set different sound/vibrate profiles when you recieve new mail. My primary account is on silent and I set the second account (which recieves only mails from Twitter) is set to always vibrate. You find the settings under Menu>More>Settings in the Gmail app. Make sure the second account is is set to synchronise automatically!
So far the things that have to be done on the phone. Now you need to make a filter in Gmail on the website. Go to the website, log in with your primary account. Now click in the upper right corner on the Settings icon, click on Mail Settings. Now you need to add the mail address you just made to Forwarding, so in my case I add [email protected]. Now you will recieve a code on that mail address which you have to enter in you primary account . Don't forward any mails yet, otherwise you recieve all mail of your primary account on your new account!
Now you have set up a forwarding address. The last step you need to take is set up a filter rule in your primary account. Again go to Mail Settings, now go to Filters. Add a filter that filters all mails from @postmaster.twitter.com and forward them to the new Gmail address, in my case [email protected].
Now all is set up and you will recieve a (almost) instant notification when you are mentioned at Twitter or when you get a DM.
(ps. the last steps with forwarding and filter rules can by avoided if you change your email address in your Twitter account to the newly made Gmail address, but I didn't want to change that myself.)
The only problem seems to be that Twitter doesn't always send emails when you get a DM/mention...

[Q] gMail vs eMail?

I'm a newbie with smart phones. I'm coming from a dumb phone and just ordered a Nexus 5. Looking at Nexus 5 specs and stock apps, I don't understand why the Nexus 5 has an Email app and a Gmail app. Isn't Gmail, e-mail? Why does Google separate e-mails? I have Gmail accounts, AOL e-mail accounts and Time Warner (Road Runner) e-mail accounts. Can I send and receive all my accounts in my Gmail app? Can I send and receive all my accounts in my Email app? Isn't all e-mail, e-mail? I don't understand the separation. Is Google making e-mailing, unnecessarily complicated? Are some e-mail accounts blocked out from one app or the other?
The gmail app is only for GMail, and is highly optimised for GMail. For example, it has the tabbed inbox (General, Social, Promotions, Updates, and Forums).
The email app is for any e-mail (POP or IMAP). Of course you can use the email app for GMail through the IMAP feature in GMail, but you won't get the optimised experience.

Use Email app to add all your email accounts.
But, if I were you I would start phasing out the AOL and RR email acounts and only use Gmail, this use only Gmail app.
I did this a few years ago and set an auto-forward on all my RR email. Whenever I would get an email sent to RR, I would update my profile's email on that account/service/website's. I now have one email and have the additional features that someone already mentioned above.

Android email app that supports unified inbox and push from Yahoo

Hi,
I'm look for an Android email app that supports
1. multiple email accounts with an unified inbox
2. instant push from Yahoo
I have been using K-9 for years but one problem it has is with instant push from Yahoo (not K-9's fault, I guess, since Yahoo does not support IMAP/IDLE). I have to set up polling periodically. As my usage of Yahoo increased, I'd like to find an app to replace K-9. One thing I will miss from K-9 is the coloring of each email account in the unified inbox. No one else seems to have such simple but useful feature.
So far, tried:
- gmail. Does not support Yahoo push. Polling required.
- Microsoft outlook. Does not support Yahoo push. No way to configure polling frequency but testing showing about 5 min delay
- MyMail. Instant push from Yahoo. However, it has no unified inbox and you have to look into each inbox separately
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Further test
AquaMail: does not support unified inbox. Does not support Yahoo push
Alto: support unified inbox. support Yahoo push (failed one test though but other succeeded)
BlueMail: support unified inbox. support Yahoo push. The interface looks better than Alto.
On TypeApp for a few weeks now. There are a few quirks but it's generally OK
