[Q] Lets Compare Software Versions - T-Mobile LG G2x

I'm just sitting here thinking why some people are having such weird problems. So I figured I would post my software version, as I haven't seen it displayed elsewhere.
Baseland version:
M6600A-SCAUTNZ-2.0.9720T 1 [MAR 27 2011 10:00:00] MP:TRULGE_08.09.02R_MDM
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: FRG83G
Software Version:
LG-P999-V10f
I have excellent battery life and everything seems to be in working order (ie no bugs). I also don't have backlight bleeding, which software couldn't tell, but maybe the date in the Baseland version will differ per batches?

Mine is the same as yours!! Exactly the same!! And I have no issues!! Well except the battery isn't really all that great, it does last a day just wish it would last a bit longer lol!!

Mine is also exactly the same as yours, but my battery life is pretty bad and I do have slight backlight bleeding. So either that info doesn't vary per batch, or you're very lucky

well it was a thought. Someone mentioned "Where's my Droid" which monitors which programs are eating at the battery. He said Yahoo Mail was a hog and WiFi calling was eating up tons of battery even while disabled.

Same as OP.
Rooted/fakeflash CWM
Screen light bleeding, battery issues, no reboots.

I did see that post also...I know that Chris Soyars already gave us that official post about the terrible LG battery driver, but I would also like to see if anyone has legit info about network/antenna drivers. A lot of people have been having some weird issues with things being very active even when they shouldn't be (like WiFi calling).

I have same as OP and I have weak battery life and rare reboots/freezes.

My stats are exact same as Op an i have never had a reboot an my battery has gotten very good 6th day of ownership, easily go all day an till 11pm on a charge, very slight bleeding, do have a voice mail message i cant get off my phone it only dials me when i try to listen to it, strange. G2x has been terrific "so far" knock knock!

Wifi Calling does eat up battery and I never use it.

Ya, it because standard for all custom roms to remove this app on the Vibrant forums. They just did something wrong there.

I have the exact same info as OP and no problems with my phone at all. My battery has settled in and I can last from 5:00 am through 11:00 PM without any problems. Oddly, I do leave the WiFi calling on and still have decent battery life. The only thing I don't use on my phone right now is BlueTooth. Otherwise everything is turned on and available as needed. I bought the phone for its features and intend to use them. If I need more battery, I'll get an extra to pop in when needed. At least we can change the battery easily enough. I really like this phone and hope my good luck with it continues.

The same but rooted
I have the same everything as y'all do, but thanks to the community and coming from the G1 and the N1, all i had to do was root and change a few things and freeze a few apps and i am getting almost twenty hours of moderate use out of my G2x. Just look at the link in my sig(no not the twitter one unless you want too!)

Where do I find this info at on my phone? thanks

I have no reboot issues, a little bit of backlight bleed which doesn't bother me at all, and battery was great out of the box, got crappy after about a week, I did a factory reset and now its good again. I have uninstalled (not just frozen) all T-Mobile apps. I didn't uninstall wifi calling until just before my factory reset though, so which caused the battery life to come back is anyone's guess.

Rebooting may be a hardware problem

First g2x rebooted constantly. Froze up on charger. Required battery pull.
New g2x hasn't rebooted yet. Same SIM card.
My guess is that if yours reboots you got a dud and should exchange it.

The same happened to me. First phone suffered from reboots.
My replacement is fine but I still haven't root it, so I blamed it on the root process.
Is yours rooted?
To counter your point..
Original G2X - rebooted a lot but then removing apps, software changes have made it more stable. Usually go 3+ days without a reboot
Replacement G2X (sent back) - rebooted just like my first one so i didn't even bother removing apps. SAME BATTERY AS ORIGINAL!
I also think it's mainly the battery which is what you're seeing by getting a replacement. I think some batteries don't charge properly so there are times when the voltage drops too much to sustain the phone causing a lock/reboot. I've been monitoring my phone and the more I think about it the more I realize most of my reboots happen after I had taken it off the charger at 100%. I can use it without charging it and it never reboots. Also battery monitor widgets, etc. cause reboots which all comes back to a bad battery or horrible battery driver which CM devs have already said existed.
After months of being in denial about the same problem which has plagued the O2X since launch, a couple of weeks ago LG Europe acknowledged the problem publicly and said it was software.
http://translate.google.com/transla...alligevel-problemer-med-optimus-2x,lid.15324/
Here's the post on the O2X forum that discusses the problem in gory detail. Interestingly, it says the Atrix is having a similar issue which could certainly point to the processor.

The rebooting is a software issue. The only time my phone rebooted was when I installed an app (Fring). After I uninstalled it, no issues.

Neither were rooted. Also, rooting in and of itself is incidental; it would not affect the issue as rooting does not change any of the kernel files.

I guess I have been one of the lucky ones. I bought my phone on the 22nd and have never had a reboot or lock up happen. Also my lcd bleeding is pretty minimal. Im still exchanging my phone for a new one because the little black piece of plastic that covers the camera just fell off one day plus I have a dead pixel on the screen that driving me nuts.

It is not the root process. I thought the same thing the first night after I rooted. The phone would not stay on for more than 5 minutes. The store rep did not believe me and tried his sim card and sure enough after five minutes sitting on the counter it turned off and only by pulling the battery was he able to get is re-started. Some of the phones are screwed up. Swap it. My new one is running great except for the battery life.

Although I often manually reboot the phone. I haven't seen one single auto-reboot or freeze, before or after root. So I don't think root is the cause of auto-reboot.
All bloatware are there and running, sometimes I manually close CarHome and TeleNav after reboot, sometimes I forget to do so.
From what I've seen, auto-reboot does look like a hardware problem. To be more specific, those devices are defective.

Just offering what worked for me. If that's not the case then just return your phone. You can keep getting a new one or listen. There's nothing wrong with the phone that a software update probably wouldn't fix.

My 2nd phone has no auto shutdown yet, but I am using new sim card. My ex G2X was using the old sim card.
My week old today G2x, 4/11/11 build, has never rebooted by itself. The only problems I'm having are flaky behavior switching wifi calling on and off automatically and some back light bleed.
As for how one phone reboots and others don't, it could be software or not. In order to really know for sure you would have to be absolutely certain you had the exact same apps installed in the exact same order, be in the same location at the same time and under the same conditions and loads.

[Q] OTA 2.3.4 update(Nexus S 4g) Battery, and Signal Strength

Hey everyone, I am enjoying the nexus s 4g(traded in my Evo 4g) but I have noticed some issues started to pop up after the OTA update to 2.3.4.(Build GRJ22). Also I am not rooted yet(for fear i will not be able to receive the next update that may resolve the issue's listed below).
Note I have updated my Profile, and PRL(Next to flashing to another ROM to mitigate the issue's).
1) Battery Charging, after the update the battery will not charge past ~95 percent.
2) Battery Life when idle, before the update battery life was outstanding with moderate usage. Now the device's battery life drops to ~85 percent after being unplugged for 15-20 mins.
3)Signal Reception, yet again my phone will constantly switch between 1x, and 3g even though my SNR, and DB never hits above ~65DB-~70DB.
4)Data Rate/Bandwidth, I was pulling 3-4 megs down/ 1.5 - 2.0 megs up(I live in the Virginia Beach Area) over 3g, Now I get "**** for speeds"(.3 megs down/.25 megs up. Maybe it is reference to the issue listed above(AOSP ROMS in my opinion provide a more accurate display of mobile network connectivity).
To end it I hope I am not alone with these issues?
Maybe if possible someone has a solution?
The battery thing is a means to keep the battery in better shape its not a bug.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA Premium App
You aren't alone, all of the issues you listed are being looked at by Sprint and Google right now, although like the above poster said, the battery thing is intentional. Hopefuly they figure out what is wrong soon =/
In the meantime, using wifi when possible should alleviate a lot of those issues, mainly battery life on standby.
Many of my battery and network connection issues got mutch better when I turned the wifi to never sleep.

If your constantly going between networks rider is your battery drain thought there. If it was better before then there is hope your problem can be fixed with another ota

The data issues you are having are due to 2.3.4 and they are known. google/samsung are supposedly working on it. But I doubt we will see a fix anytime soon if Samsung is fixing it!
Woa, woa, woa. Wait a second, are you saying that going back to 2.3.3 or whatever the previous version was will alleviate all the signal/radio/data problems? !?!!?
If so, will downgrading stop me from being able to upgrade in the future?

nope. depending on the version you are going back to you'll mostlikely get an insta notification that 2.3.4 is available for your device, you just got to ignore it until they either fix 2.3.4 or release 2.3.5.
2.3.4 is already out. If they release a new fix it will be 2.3.5.
And what the post above mine says about the updates.
I have also seen tat 2.3.3 also has some issues with 3g. But the post I read up could have been all lies

That's why you make a backup of untouched stock ROM.
Hey man, I returned the phone yesterday, and then bought a replacement(same model, but in order to avoid sprint's one exchange limit) With regards to the battery issue, it most likely is hardware related because the new phone running 2.3.4.(Build GRJ22), charges fully and does not have the so called "protect your battery feature". Also while i was at the Sprint Store, I compared the signal strength of my original Nexus S to an HTC Evo, HTC Evo Shift, and another Nexus S 4g. Oddly enough even in the store(which has signal booster's all over the place. All of the phones where around -76db. I am starting to think it is either a hardware issue or a ****ty baseband version. Most likely hardware. Kind of reminds me of the Samsung Captivate i had with AT&T and the ever so wonderful bug with Odin(Orange/Blue flashing screen of death that turned my investment into a paperweight. Also after running the *#*#4636#*#*, and displaying the Preferred Network Settings, I noticed on all 3 phones tested, all devices would switch from WCDMA, to Uknown, to the best of my understanding the default should be CDMA_Auto PRL. Very Strange, very strange indead......... Samsung needs to invest into quality control, before lawsuits start.
Damn! I am on wifi and charging the phone. I just woke up and picked up the phone and started using it. I've experienced that using the phone after an overnight charge, but not removing it from the charger, will make my battery go up to 98%. I just saw it hit 99 and was like I need to get a screen shot of this. By the time I downloaded and installed something it dropped back down to 98. I've never seen this phone hit 99 before today. If it does it again I am prepared to archive it.

My V21e Update

To anyone who cares or was questioning the update. My update is running very smooth, GPS updates super quick, battery life has improved and all my apps are working perfectly. I must be lucky.
First of all, previously to the update I was running CM7 RC-1 with morfics kernel which ran great first of all. But of course i wanted to update to an "official" if you want to call it that.
This is the guide I followed thanks to TGA_Gunmann for posting first.
http://theunlockr.com/2011/05/23/how-to-unroot-the-t-mobile-g2x/
I made sure all the steps went exactly as they were supposed to. And i followed them perfectly.
Now i have this.
My version of OS im running.

Battery
Battery life with my normal to moderate usage. It has been better than my experience with froyo.
Been using this all day as well. Widget and background (bg is a Live Wallpaper also)
If someone were to ask me if they should update, My answer would be yes. I have not had any problems yet. Just make sure you follow the instructions CAREFULLY! Maybe someone will find this at least a little useful.
People are complaining but I rather have the update than be stuck on 2.2. Only. Things worth noticing is the stock camera, but we have to wait 4 more months on the update.

I now notice it only seems to get stuck in the checked position if there is also active wifi connection, otherwise, if the phone is on 4G, the 2G box can be checked/unchecked and the selection sticks.
I agree if anyone wants to update they should, but the only down fall is losing the nice LG camera. That is the only reason I went back. I take a lot of photos of my son who is 2 years old and I need crystal clear pictures like you get with the LG Camera. I think if you want a stable gb rom, do the update. If you want the LG Camera like I do then do not do the update. Just my two cents.
I can agree. I noticed the camera was a little dark. But I can deal without it. I take meaningless pictures unlike you. Pictures of your son is a good reason to go black. I would probably also jump on board if I were to be using it for tthe same.reason

[Q] Battery Usage Reporting

Does anyone know why the battery usage in system settings doesn't show all the info for how much each app is using? My galaxy nexus shows everything. I thought it was part of Android 4.0.

I just checked my battery stats a few minutes ago and was surprised that there were no statistics per app. I'm glad someone else noticed it. Maybe we'll be getting an update soon to fix that.

I don't think so, mine just looks really funny because every time its connected to the dock it shows its charging. I got really confused the first time I looked at it because I hadn't plugged it in all day and it said it was charging for half of it. lol
Update: I talked to Asus about the battery reporting issue. They said it is part of android 4.0 and it does work on the 101 and 201. They suggested a factory reset after updating from FW .17 to .26 (I doubt this will fix) or to report the bug to google. I may try the factory reset if I can confirm that I will keep root. I also noticed my screen doesn't wake anymore when I open (attached to keyboard dock). Opening would wake the screen when I was on .17.

Check the asus customized settings at the bottom. There is a mobile dock power saver or something like that, it disables waking from sleep by anything but the power button, when connected to the dock.

I don't own a dock, and my tablet had been off the charger for over 24 hours. There just weren't any stats available.
I also don't like how Asus tries to pass the blame to Google. It can't be Google's fault if it works fine on all other Android devices.
Download better battery stats and it shows the info....

I reported this bug to Asus.
The battery in settings does not display the usage information about
which apps are using how much battery. This is an android 4.0 feature and works on
the tf201 and my galaxy nexus. Customer support indicated that it should be working
and suggested I contact google to report a bug. I'm reporting the bug to you. It's your
job to provide fully functioning software on your device.

Good. Like I said before, the problem isn't Google's code if that feature works on hundreds of other devices. If this is the only device on which a feature doesn't work, how is it anyone's problem besides Asus?
I am having the same issue. I had the problem on .17 and it persists on .26
I don't have the dock, so I know it is not exclusive to that.
I will try the factory reset and see if that helps, but I am not overly hopeful. This tablet feels kind of rushed out the door by ASUS with a bunch of software bugs.

When I hit the graph I can see these battery stats ie screen on, awake, wi-fi, charging, GPS etc.. with the default battery stats tool. Whats missing is the listing of battery usage by app and process the menu layer before that.
I ended up downloading Badass Battery Monitor, you can keep track of app battery usage with it.
i tried a factory reset on .26 after the OTA and this problem is still occurring. But the system feels more stable overall.
Yeah factory reset is not going to work. Its a bug in the new firmware. I keep asking when they will be fixing it. Maybe Asus needs some more pressure. Try this email for them.

How did you get .29 and what region code is it?
Oh snap, downloading now...
Confirmed new firmware is .29 and battery usage stats is working now. And OTA rootkeeper worked like a charm. Rock on.
I'm not sure if the app usage is completely working, but at least I'm getting reports on Screen and Idle

Oh? Did they report the bug to Google? *sigh*

Note 3 KitKat update has completely broken notifications.

Obviously Samsung weren't happy with their efforts to launch this device with a broken email app. They've gone one step further and broken all push notification support in 4.4.
No longer do I receive email notifications, app notifications, or pretty much anything else.
I have to unlock the phone before I'm told that I had an important meeting an hour ago which had a reminder set 30 mind before. Nor will I receive those stupidly funny pictures of cats with bread crusts on their heads on time.
But it's OK, because calls and texts still work just fine. Who needs important emails as long as you have that text telling you to pick up milk the second it comes through.
There must be laws somewhere to protect us against this stuff. Samsung are shocking.
I would suggest doing a factory reset. I have none of these issues. I have multiple email accounts and calendar reminders that never fail to go off unless the battery is dead. Both the first 4.4.2 and the current build (which is much cleaner in general performance btw).

I've done 5 factory resets in the last 2 weeks.
Notifications SOMETIMES work for the first 2 days, before they stop altogether.
Doesn't matter if I have a clean start with no apps installed, having all the bloatware disabled, etc. It always breaks.
I've tried just using the normal battery cover as opposed to the Samsung Flip cover, makes no difference at all.
I've also noticed that Cell Standby is top of battery usage regardless of what I do. Tested different batteries, sim cards, forcing 2G/3G instead of LTE, etc, also with no luck. The battery reporting is also way off too. 100% to 50% drains stupidly slow, then after 50% it craters to 0% within hours. Again, doesnt matter which battery I use (all official batteries btw). Wiped everything via recovery, nothing works.
Am I just one of the victims of 4.4.2? Because I'm starting to think the phone itself is broken.
Also worth mentioning that its only a few weeks old, so 4.3 hasnt been tested, and now obviously I can't go back due to the bootloader update.
My note 2 runs beautifully on both 4.3 and 4.4
I would take your reset one step further and flash the current firmware via Odin. The factory flash you have might be corrupt. Not likely but it wouldn't be the first time I've seen it.

Whatever your situation is it's your situation. I've been on 4.4 since a leak was released in January and haven't had any of the issues you're describing. The Gear is dependent on device notifications for its feed so its forum would be lit up like a Christmas tree if what you're describing were common. I can't imagine it's h/w related because there's no specific component that would touch the things affecting you. From what you said, I'm assuming your device is receiving whatever's supposed to trigger the notification but you're not being alerted when it arrives/occurs. That sounds like an app conflict or problem in settings.

Strangely enough, notifications work fine when paired with the Galaxy Gear I got free with it. I just rarely use it due to the nature of my workplace.
I probably should have added, the notifications only come through a few seconds after the phone is unlocked. You can visibly see the phone begin to access the network via the icon, and once it downloads, notifications pop.
And worth mentioning that this happens regardless of wifi access point, and on both 2G/3G and on LTE.

I'll give that a go thanks.
I know you say it's unlikely, but I've tried for hours to find people that have the same issues as me, with no luck. Here's hoping it's just one of those rare cases.

Mine doesn't do this. In fact mine is the opposite, it checks my email more often than what I set it to, kind of annoying.

Thanks but I'm running the international version.
Decided to bite the bullet and use the latest NE3/NE4 update from Asia, as a few people have reported it to be fine for the n9005 model it was intended for. I can always flash back later.
Will update in due course if anything helps my situation.
I had the same problem with WhatsApp notification
And I figured out that was happening because I hibernated google play store app
Just a quick message to say that the NE3 build seems to have fixed my cell standby issue, but ofcourse this is more than likely down to the full odin flash.
Hopefully it stays that way. Will test notifications during my work day tomorrow.
Yet another thing I forgot to add. Notifications have always worked properly when there is music playing to an external device. I assume this is down to the fact that the phone is always awake, and not in deep sleep like it normally is.
Android system and Android OS are both firmly back at the top of my battery usage as per the 4.4.2 norm. Strangely though I can't get the screen usage up at all.
weird. I have had 0 problems with NE3. Are you sure that you didn't greenify \ deactivate \appops stuff you shouldn't ?
i would love to have cell standby up on top as opposed to Android OS \ Android system though i did see a big leap in standby battery life comming to NE3 from ND3 and they were still on top.

NE3 seems to be significantly better than the ND6 build I was originally on. I can't judge battery life as ND6 was completely broken where tracking battery health, charge, etc was concerned. But I will say that it seems much more accurate.
So far notifications are working flawlessly while I have my flip cover installed. Hopefully it lasts.
