Hello Everyone,
So Yesterday i finally decided to give roms and themes a chance . So i downloaded different types of roms and themes but each had atleast one issue in them or didnt have correct files or wouldnt let me backup my contacts and apps with backup assistance & google. I have wiped off my data atleast 10 times in the past few hours.
So today i come here to ask if you guys could help me by giving me the download link [With instructions if possible] to a rom that looks
-Clean
-Pretty Fast
-Has No Bugs / Issues With it
-Will Let Me Restore Things i need
If anyone could help me out i will be ever so thankful ! i just want a better look for my droidx.
It's going to be hard finding one with out bugs but must bugs around are minimal that most people don't notice when I made the jump from stock to rooted I went with liberty and am still with liberty take a look at liberty google searching droid x liberty will take you to the main forum for it and the way to install it

I will help where I can and I am sure others will be chiming in soon..First what version are you on Froyo or the GB Leak? Are you rooted, I assume you are but you know what they say about assuming...In the forums that these exist I assure you there is much help...I will add some others once I know your setup no need to post something that will not work for you....
ROMS:
Darkslide 4.2 ( my personal favorite for Froyo)http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-roms/6155-darkslide-v4-2-a.html
Apex Latest version for Froyo and he has a Aplha 2 out for GB but you have to follow him on twitter to get it as he doesn't want it posted out any place as far as I know of
http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/277224-rom-apex-v1-4-1-droid-x-droid-2-refinement-ease-use-2-22-2011-a.html
my preference is still fission 2.6.1
google "team defuse"
donate and get fission rom manager (it is an apk, you will have to put the download on your sd card and use a file manager from on the phone to install the apk and run it).
donwload fission 2.6.1 be (black edition)
figure out where it is on your sd card
boot into clock work (recovery) and go to advanced, wipe dalvick, wipe battery stats
back out and wipe data and wipe cache
mounts; mount system and mount data (will say unmount when done)
install zip, chose zip, fission 261
after done reboot and set up.
reboot phone again for good measure.

Hi!
First off, if I have posted in the wrong place, I am sorry and if necessary please move to relevant location!
Right, I have had a major problem with my HTC Desire, I spent all day & night yesterday trying to fix!
I rebooted the device as it was running short of memory, then phone just got stuck on the white HTC boot screen & wouldnt move from that, so I restored a backup of the phone using Nandroid, but I had the same result, fine I thought, Id just download a RUU to reflash the device, this didnt work and came up with errors, BUT what I did manage to do is take the rom.zip and make a new ROM in Cygwin which flashed perfectly and I ended up with a stock 2.2 and all seemed to be back to normal, so I then tried to restore a backup again, but same problem, white HTC screen so I have came to the conclusion that I will have to TRY to re-create my old ROM & settings using this stock ROM!
So far I have managed to root the ROM & add everything that my old ROM had (was using the latest Lee Droid ROM - man big respect to you for what you do!!) but there are a few things missing which I do not know about and this is where I need all your help with!
Below are the bits I desperately need including with the ROM (my phone wont install any other ROMS other than the stock 2.2 I said earlier) I am not expecting the members here to do it all for me, BUT if you could point me in the right direction to either the posts with directions for what I need or other places where I can find the bits & how to do it!
*** Wireless N support (my router is N & so are the other wireless devices)
*** An overclocked kernel (such as Lee Droid's V2.2e_A2SD ROM)
*** The ability to wake up & unlock the phone with the optical thumb trackpad
*** The reboot option when long press on unlock button (ideally the nice, clear menu that includes Hibernate from the new HD ROMS)
*** Branding & naming the ROM (as Lee Droid does on his ROMS)
*** Custom wallpapers instead of stock wallpapers
I am sorry for the long post, but I really NEED this completed ASAP and I know with all your help, I can do it!
Also, I am making a simple program on my PC to custom ROMS (add & delete apps, alarms, ringtones & notifications etc) which I will upload for the community when it has been completed & working 100%!
Thanks in advance & I hope that you can find it in your hearts to help me!
Arty
I don't think nandroid restores the kernel. After you do a restore with it, you need to flash a kernel that is compatible with the rom being restored.
Personally, when I restore I backup on my phone, I reinstall the rom and then just restore /data from my nandroid backup.
Thanks for your fast reply DiGi760, however I think you misunderstand!
I need a kernel that supports overclocking the CPU as I use SetCPU and so far its just the standard 998MHZ I can set the clock to, where I would like it to be higher, like 1038MHZ or whatever it is
Your backup copy is broken. You can't "really" recover from this. Just reflash 2.2 and update it to whatever you had before and start over. You may be able to manually pull stuff from your SD card where the nandroid backup was written to but that would be a tedious amount of work.
Thanks Syn Ack, why would the backup AND the info on my phone corrupt at the same time?
I do actually have a copy of the Clockwork folder from memory card stored onto my PC, but none of the backups will restore (I have a total of 10 going back a few months) but none will restore, not even any other ROMS that Ive downloaded with ROM Manager or from forums will install to it, only the 2.2 ROM that came with the RUU file I downloaded.
An update on my progress of making my new ROM:
I have managed to get the Reboot menu integrated into my ROM, so now I am just stuck on the following:
Wireless N support
Overclocked Kernel
Unlock the phone with trackpad
Branding & naming
Custom wallpapers
so if anybody can help me I'd really appreciate it!
Wow, its been over a week and no replies, why cant anybody see it in themselves to help? after all, you all was newbies once too, just remember how you felt when nobody answered a post you *REALLY* needed help with!!!
Just saying
Gees thanks for nothing u lot!!!!

The stuff you want to do requires you to be rooted first. So download SuperOneClick and use that to root your device first.
1. Making a backup is usually with a app called Rom Manager. After installing, you can press the option to download the recovery and afterwards you can make a backup of the rom. Its best to make a backup of the stock rom that came with the phone just for... backup purposes.
Cyanogenmod is in progress, but not released yet so you should wait for that.
No point in checking on Modaco because there's almost no one posting there for this device.
If you want to install a new rom, you basically only need 3 things. Your phone, the custom rom you want from the Optimus 3D Android Development Section, and the instructions that thread gives you. Its best to follow the instructions that they give. Very easy and simple process.
2. Flashing a rom = installing a rom. All your data and etc are gone. Doesn't exist anymore, it'll be as if you got a fresh phone from out of the box except the rom has been modified. So if you want to keep your data, go make backups of them. For contacts, just sync them with your gmail account. For messages, download an app to back those up. I don't have a texting plan so I can't recommend you a sms backup app. If you want to backup your apps, you can look at Titanium Backup.
3. Whenever you flash a new rom, anything you've done to your phone is gone. So you'll have to reapply any tweaks you've done. For those 3 links, Link 1 and 2 are both stock camera replacements. They replace the stock camera on your phone. So you could only pick one. They both aim to improve the stock camera quality. Personally, I haven't installed either. I use 3rd party camera apps for taking pictures. For the 3rd link, its only a way to get GameLoft games to your external sd card to save some bit of space on your internal sd card. If you need it, try it out. I didn't need it, so I haven't touched it.
4. Are you talking about creating an android app development envirenment or...?
5. GPS, are you talking about GPS navigation, GPS detection, or..?
6. Applying a theme is just changing the graphical appearance of the phone. Applying a rom is changing much more than that. Applying a rom lets you have a rom with tweaks that gives you more space, more speed, more etc etc. Most custom roms has their own themes. Basically, if you want to change how your phone's launcher looks, then that's applying a theme. If you want your phone to be different from stock and have lots of bloatware removed and faster and etc you would want to install a new rom.
To change a theme there's 2 ways. One is to change it on the rom which would affect the stock launcher. 2nd way is to download a new launcher and download any of the themes they have and use those instead. I prefer the 2nd way just because its much easier and most of the time 3rd party launchers are simply better than the stock launchers.

nope, what i mean is most of the guides such as superoneclick , rooting and etc given for windows users..i have hard time to adept and use it in ubuntu linux . i google around and found few howto in linux . i tried, it is not working atlease for me.
yes, GPS navigation . if possible similar GUI with HTC navigation .
So we are all flashing and re flashing new excellent ROMS that are being developed by the great devoted guys in here. I looked around and beside this I didn't find any TODO list before flashing.
So here is my little contribution,of the tasks I do before every flash to verify that I don't loose any data, but only upgrade my beloved device:
CONTACTS:
Since I'm not using my google account to sync my contacts(I'm a little bit envy of my privacy regarding the people I'm in contact with) - backup contacts using the import function in the contacts section
SMS/MMS:
Backup my sms/mms using any of the much too many apps in the market
APPS(Here is a section that I know will cause a lot of discussion):
I don't use titanium - I tried to use it during my first months with this phone I just didn't like it.I know it could be great to just save everything using it but I found it..hmmm...not suiting my needs and wants so I don't use it.
Instead recently I found a great feature in File expert which lets you backup your APKs(without the data,i.e. scores in games) - I find it very convenient because when I flash I want a clean start where I know exactly what I put back into the phone.
LAUNCHER:
I'm putting not a little effort to make my phone look as awsome as possible(and I'm sure you are too) so in order to save the trouble of configuring your preferred launcher after every flash - just back its settings. most of the used launchers have this option in their settings.
BATTERY:
Be sure you have enough battery life - best practice(which I admit that I'm not always follow)is to fully charge your phone before flashing.
FILES:
I personally always put my current rom zip and the one I'm about to flash on the sdcard to be on the safe side(boot loop for example that can be caused from bad download of the zip)-that way you always have a backup plan.
Also I'm trying to always backup all the content of my sdcard to my computer while I can, who knows what will happen during the flash - maybe you'll have to format your sdcard without any access to the data on it
UTILS:
even if you are just flashing using the CWM be sure to have a setup environment for ODIN:drivers, odin, tars etc.
And last but most important - NANDROID BACKUP:
Always and I repeat Always make a nandroid backup(if you are on the GB kernels I think there is a problem with backup/restore so I heard a solution is to flash the Bali kernel and make a restore with it - search the forum for more details.
That's it - I hope I didn't forget anything.
Please if you have any suggestions/comments don't hesitate to bring them up and I'll update this post if needed.
Enjoy
Thumbs up, bro.
I'm a big fan of Titanium backup though..
I will definately look at file expert to be using up to date supplemental apks when building a ROM.
Sent from me
For apks I just copy the install file from data/app or system/app to my sd card/app. This probably takes a little longer than batch functions. The only problem i encounter with this method is the need to push some apks back to system/app when they won't install properly. I like to reset my launcher after a flash but all of this is just personal preference

Good stuff. Stuff that should be in the wiki Note the issue with CWM & GB is fixed in the later releases (version 5, I think) fixes that problem. I know it's available in bhndven's KJ6 kernels but I'm not sure about elsewhere.

just trying to help people, i have received PM during the last few weeks reporting roms could'nt flash on some peoples devices because they where not deodexed (finally found out the problem) or where having difficulties not knowing how to flash or do several steps in order to keep phones up to date and take the maximum out of their device.I thought it was easier just to make things myself than asking other people to do so.
Also I am preety keen to help others as much as they need, solving doughts as much as my nogledge reaches, making people undertand some difficult concepts or procedures.
I am very sorry if you thought this was a competition, you got reasons to think so. Next time I will let people try to solve there problems by themselves.
By the way, many thanks making this phone rootable for the first time, credits all goes to you for finding a way at last, I am extremely grateful

And this applies to jaggyjaggs rom too
No offense jaggy.

both of you are doing very good helping people and making custom roms for android noobs like me so never let yourself down...I know how it feels as i myself was a modder for nokia s60v5 series....So whatever happens dont let anything come in your way...just do what you feel is right...
if you want help testing roms and your scripts i m ready to help....I can be your BETA tester...
things are being solved gradually,
now no space limitations, people have no problem now to flash deodexed version. yes deodexed roms have to create extra "code" in dalvic cache but its easier to add tweaks and modify (using baksmali), I am working on it to add tweaks and hopefully make it faster, would love if people experiment with it and could implement them in future roms.
I have tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411317
but didn't work as expected, here is my reply in that thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22042958&postcount=105
The only thing people are reporting now is the lack of languajes, just european. I haven't got the knowledge yet to extract Roms from RUU and would be great to get them all to .zip Roms.
we could create a thread up to date with the progresses made and the future proyects and who is working on what, what do you think?

Reg. Skins: it seems like HTC tried to make a foool of us by putting skins options as it does nothing.
Reg. differ in Indian and EU version:
In indian, some extra apps + another one which noticed was the space. the space in indian came to be more as soon as i deleted 3-4 apps in indian which were not present in eu version.
+ the difference of bands + there is Hindi language keyboard in Indian version.

Thanks to PlayfulGold for giving Android Titan heads up on changing permissions in the /etc/permissions/ folder.

This rom is for the Huawei Mercury (glory) m886. It won't work for the u8500.

This sounds pretty good, at least untill there is a working ICS.
One question, what was removed? Because I don't know where I'd be without the Asphalt5 and Let's Golf demos... lol
Help please, My phone is completely bricked!!! There has to be some way to fix!
My Huawei Mercuric is completely bricked depending on which way you turn on, get's the pure blue screen, but if you hold vol +/- as well as power than you get the pure pink screen. Please, someone help, i can't find anything on any website with original stock Rom.
And then when i try to put some things onto the sd card to transfer over to the phone it keeps saying i don't have enough room and is coming up as 239 mg and then say's maximum capacity 239. I don't know what to do please help, need my phone and can't afford to buy another.
all is well but wifi not working after this update
