Lightwell is a Live Wallpaper which displays
- Current Location address
- How long you stay there already (UNIQUE NEW FEATURE)
- Time and Date
- Battery Status
- Local weather information [BETA]
- Network status (WIFI, mobile) and traffic counter [BETA]
I am very glad to read feedback from you here. Especially regarding measuring the time how long you stay at your current location. Does it have some value to you?
To me sometimes it was useful, e.g. "how long am i working already"...

If you have problems downloading the APK, you can try this link. But please note: Android 2.1 required to support Live Wallpapers.

lol whats the battery usage?
I like the concept. I installed the wallpaper and I will use it and see how the battery is affected if at all on my evo.
Would be nice of we could select any image as the wallpaper background. Could even go crazy with the customization by reordering things, different colors for each data set...weather option maybe.
Great work!! I look forward to seeing how this grows.

Seems to work okay....however it doesn't scale properly on my Dell Streak.
Only uses 3/4 of the screen vertically.
Width is fine.

Was actually just going to mention this too. Doesn't use up the whole screen on my evo, it actually seems to shrink sometimes and use even less vertical real estate

As I´ve written in the market!
Keep on and this could be the base for something great - why? Because no oine really needs it and that´s often a feature of success
If you need help with localization for German you can contact me (just see my other thread).
Excellent!!..
Thanks for this.
Can you please attach the APK?.. (sometimes is better for me than going into the market)
awesome live wallpaper! would be cool if there were an option to select a custom static wallpaper behind the status.
In X10 Mini Pro don't use all screen, in top keep a blank margin

It looks like that's an option of the paid version, if I read correctly.

+1 running on galaxy tab 7"
Cool wall paper thanks. I would like to be able to select the size of the battery gauge and the clock. I don't think time at a location is very useful to me. Seconds on the clock would be a cool option too.
Looks very good!
Have you run some tests of battery drain?
It would be great if we could customize the emphasis of each category. I guess a lot of people would prefer to have a bigger time and smaller battery level.
Select your own wallpaper background image
Hello,
first i want to thank you for all your feedback. I am very happy about.
- Currently I have uploaded two different versions to the market. One free version and a 1 $ version which adds the feature of selecting an image of your own gallery.
- Regarding Dell Streak's display size I will do some research and try to fix soon.
- Battery usage: This was one of my primary goals when developing the wallpaper. Often this was the cause, I have removed a live wallpaper in the past and changed back to a standard image again. As you can see all the values are updated when you turn on the screen. When the display is turned off, the app will unregister from all broadcast receivers to sleep all the night without getting disturbed (wakeup) by any OS notification. Repaint calls were optimized. I cant ensure that it is perfect, but I spent some effort on this already. (My N1 with Cyanogen is providing me nice statistics about CPU/Battery usage)
Once again I am glad, if the app is being used and some people out there like it.

extremely smart and unique idea. Good Job DEDEEP. still testing it out on my Tmo Vibrant with custom Roms

I apologize I didn't even see the paid version in the market, so I didn't know of the custom image feature.
I must say, I didn't notice any significant battery usage while the screen was off, certainly no change when the screen is sleeping, so it looks like that is working just fine.
Keep up the good work.

Agree with this, perhaps having configurable options as to what info is displayed? Apart from adding that to the wishlist, I'm enjoying this live wallpaper, good job.

Hi all. I just posted to the market this widget which basically shows the clock with current date, battery status, next alarm, network operator and more. Most of it is configurable (which information to show, which color to use). I will add more customizations in the future.
P.S. it seems that on Galaxy S widget has some issues, pleasepleaseplease contact me before giving "1 star" for this, i don't have a galaxy s and i'm trying to understand whats going wrong.
If you want to give it a try here is the appbrain page:

not bad at all man. working on N1
love this but is it possible to NOT show the clock??`
I'm gonna add an option to show date instead of clock on next release, i could also permit hiding the clock completely, thanks for feedback!
Nice App - running fine on my Evo 4g - really like all the custom options
@johnuopini hey the time is showing incorrectly when used as a widget in i9000..Its intermitent, not rated yet.If you need any help I should be able to help you
Thanks for calling me a liar in the market description. On my galaxy s it always runs eating 10mb of ram even if the widget it not on the home screen. You admit you've never tested this on galaxy s. Maybe you should try your app on more varied hardware before calling your potential customers liars
I seems like anyone time anyone tries to report a bug in the market you just edit the description saying that's not true

Hi Ben,
first of all i've never used the term "liar" or anything near that, maybe i wrote that its not true that the widget eats memory or stays in background if nothing its on the screen and that's because i have tested it on a galaxy s (info on the widget its outdated), i have many friends from google that are using it on nexus s which is quite similar so im quite sure about that. Probably it takes 5 to 10 minutes once removed to autokill itself but it will disappear.
Moreover i don't understand people like you who writes "1 star" comments like that. Most of the widget in the market, i would say 90% of them, have background processes that are there even if no widget is on screen, does this make them "1 star" just for that or you think this could be in some way linked to Android APIs? I don't think this is fair considering that you are not paying anything for the widget, i don't see your comment as very useful for the community, that's all.
I could go into technical details and explain you why this is happening so often but there is a lot of docs around.
Finally, if you are not using my widget, just uninstall it.
Regards.
Yeah any app, widget etc that runs when not open or in use I do rate 1 actually. Google market allows users to rate however they see fit
No other widgets on my phone run when not in use. They dont have to be uninstalled

Try a reboot with widget removed and you will see that its not there anymore, or wait 5 minutes and, again, you will se that the process is not there, im SURE i have tested it yesterday on a Galaxy S.
Anyway no problem with the "really not useful" 1 star comment but an email before rating would have been nice, maybe one day you will develop some free software and understand what i mean.
Ciao.
I rather like your widget (just got the paid version), but there are a few niggles...
1) The date format flips between US (December 11) and European (11 December) depending on how long it is. Perhaps link that format to the global settings?
2) Might be nice to be able to create your own formats, or add a few text areas.
3) Personal thing, the year on its own might be nice.
4) Not sure what's wrong with the font selection, but I think you're working on that already.
These are by no means major, this is a lovely app (run on a rooted Galaxy S2).

Hi,
do you have the same issue with fixed location? is location&security->use wireless networks enabled on your android options?
Great widget, thank you! One request: Could you incorporate a color picker such as the one by Devmil:[Library] Color picker (Open Source)
Basically, I would like to be able to type in the hex color code rather than fiddling with the sliders.
Will be buying the pro version soon. Thanks again!
Great widget, I paid for pro version.
Can you explain me how to get short format of #NEXTALARM#?
I'd like to show next alarm as "Alarm in 15:45" but I get "Alarm in 15 hours 45 minutes".
Simple alarm time would be also nice as "Next alarm at 05:45"

Finally out of Beta and available on the Play Store !
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jv.minimalreader
Hey folks!
I've been hard at work these past weeks to take my Minimal Reader Widgets to the next level. I finally reached a milestone of stability, performance and usability, and I just couldn't help but sharing it with you guys.
I'm proud to introduce Minimal Reader 3.0 - Bringing a full Google Reader experience on your Android device with a brand new APP in addition to the widgets!
The App follows the latest ICS Guidelines and is available from Android 2.2 and above. It's clean, fast and simple to use.
There's a new color system that let's you associate a color to a particular feed, so you can easily spot it when scrolling through lists of news.
App and widgets are completely synchronized, so you can both quick read through your daily feeds on a widget and explore more content in the app when you have time.
The app should be pretty straightforward to use, give it a spin, and if you encounter any issues/bugs, please report them in a detailed comment on this thread.
I'm really looking forward to your feedback, and to make it easy for me, please give me your opinion by simply answering these three questions :
1/ what do you like about the app
2/ what do you miss (compared to other news app maybe)
3/ how would you improve it
Here are some screenshots :

gonna test
For me the minimal reader is the best reader/widget. I'm looking forward to test this beta.
First impression: really fast, but I don't have tried the older version (2.6)
What I liked: velocity
What I missed: possiblity to change the mobilizer. Readability Mobilizer is better than the Instapaper One (imho)
Suggestions:
1) after the tap on "mark all as read", the app should refresh the ui to not show again the feed marked as read. If I'm in the "browse" view, under a certain folder, it should prompt me to the upper folder
2) the name of the tabs are too big/long: as you can see from the picture above, the words "reading list (0)" and "favourites (0)" are too close.
I like the look, and feeling a lot. Just like 2.6, but great to have a app with it now
Things I miss: Synchronization interval
Suggestions:
Change the order of my labels, now you would have to add labels 1 by 1 to get the order you want. Would be nice if it could just be added all at once, and be reordered afterwards
Maybe an option to rename the labels in the app (only for the app, so leave the label name as it is in google reader), with the same reason as above poster
Maybe I missed it, but just saw there is no option for adding an individual rss feed. Not a problem for me, but maybe other people still like to add them all manually
This is great stuff guys, exactly the stuff I need to hear to prioritize features.
Keep it coming!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Look forward to testing this, thanks
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Another suggestion/missing feature:
Refresh on app startup
Suggestion:
Option to hide read labels (unless all are read/show all is selected) So you wont have to scroll through empty labels to get to the ones you havent read yet
Is it possible to add an export favourite news option? Just a simple html list with the title and link of the news, something like that.
Best news reader ever
Going to test. Just downloaded the beta. Will tell you how it works on both CM9 and CM7.
Cheers!!
I'm actually live coding your suggestions right now
Here's my TODO list atm :
From XDA :
----------------
ADD : Reorder colums in manage screen
ADD : hide columns when no more news (option ?)
ADD : Auto refresh in background option
ADD : Refresh on startup option
FROM ME :
----------------
ADD : sync starred from greader as favorites
ADD : white theme
ADD : tutorial with recommended labels
ADD : Tablet UI
This is great. Thanks guys !
Nice
Loved the widget, but now with the app its even better
I used the application for quite sometime.
Device: Motorola Defy (Rooted + Custom ROM)
ROM: White Rabbit v1.5 - Gingerbread 2.3.7
Pros:
Works Fast even on Edge
Really good looking widget with nice features
Design is good to look at. But I feel the 'carbon' theme is kinda distracting. But its just my feeling.
Changes I Would Love:
The tab texts are quite long. Better if they were smaller and space between was larger. (Already given)
The title text of content is a tad big. A smaller text would be better and feel flush with the total design. Previously given menu choice of 'Small' text makes it too small = Ability to choose a proper text size using a slider with numbers (Higher flexibility?)
The space between the contents in the widget could be slightly more.
FORCE CLOSE
The main app FCs every time I press the hard 'menu' button or the 'more' icon on the top-right corner. You should check that for sure.
It again FCs every time I press a feed in the 'Browse' tab under the reading list. FCs every single time.
Will the beta testers be given free licenses?

That is the dropbox link for you. I didn't know a better way to send it across. Hope you find it useful. If you can't download, just reply. I'll make sure you are able to.
Cheers.
Just installed the beta and I love it for most part. There are a couple things I don't like though and all of them are cosmetic (not too much of a biggie but I like my homescreens looking good):
1. For the widget, I dislike the new size of the "header". The 3 buttons and the counter (also the new MR button) are quite bigger than on 2.6. Much liked the previous size better.
2. Still concerning the widget, the new button that launches the full reader is a bit unsightly. Even though the icon represents MR, maybe a more subtle icon can be used instead that is more inline with the 3 other header icons (simple, single colored icon). If not, then maybe let us specifically hide only this icon (also allow the counter to be moved to the left most if the icon is hidden).
3. Hope you are still working on making the widget look more sightly when there are no items. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24773750#post24773750
Other than these, I'm pretty content.
Thanks for your hardwork!
Minimal Reader Pro 3.0
Hi Joenrv!!
I heard the latest news by this forum, when I came to see if my eternal "refresh" problem can be solved!
I was very surprised, that a new big update even in beta, but, I was disappointed to know this version only works in 2.2+ android version! Mine is 2.1 and still be for some time!
So please, can you tell me if for my version, no more updates will be released?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Alex, unfortunatly I have no plans on supporting Android 2.1 ... I'm using libraries that work on Android 2.2 and above only ...
But If you're here on this forum, you must know ways to flash a higher version on your phone... I mean what phone today has no custom ROM > 2.2 here on XDA?
Very nice app and widget. I like the clean and simple interface. I was going to suggest white theme (not only for pop-ups), but I see it's already on todo list.
Small remark - can you remove or add option to remove the horizontal padding of the widget - it doesn't expand fully horizontally and visually differs in width compared to other widgets I have (vertically there is no such padding/margin).
Could Minimal Reader use https to connect to google reader? For some reason, I have to use proxy and it only supports https.
Thanks.

'OrientationLocker' enables you to toggle the Auto-rotate mechanism EASILY.
Each time you change the screen orientation without any need of pulling down the status bar, going to settings or using external application.
Each time you rotate your phone, the lock symbol will appear and by a single click you will be able to choose whether you want your screen to rotate or not !
• DONATION version offers the following features :
Setting the symbol opacity.
the symbol offset.
More options for symbol timeout.
Setting notification icon as transparent.
Please try the free version to make sure everything is as expected.
Note!
This app will NOT lock your screen permanently in any orientation, it uses the Android auto-rotate mechanism in order to control the screen orientation !
The app requests several permissions - it's all for making it more usable ,
I.E. it will ask for Read Phone status and identity for not interrupting while in call / ring.

Great app! Just one remark: I don't like the intrusive icon. Will future updates include a simple, minimal white-only lock icon to fit with every other icon? It's a small thing but nonetheless it could - personally spoken - be that bit better
This is cool man, it's so annoying that auto rotate screen.

Notice you can long click the icon and change its location to one of the screen corners ... !
Can you make the app lock the screen all the times? There were some app auto rotate even we lock the screen (youtube while watching )

Well, I thought about doing so... but as far as I know, it can cause some issues I don't think i want to put myself there, it's really working around the system configurations (think of apps only working in landscape mode, locking the orientation completely will make them work in incompatible mode )
Regarding youtube ... It's actually Youtube fault that their app rotates although auto-rotate is OFF...
Very nice app man, thanks!

Thanks for making this available.
Just curious, is this any different than Orientaion Switch?

Sorry, I didn't find any reference to any app called 'Orientation Switch' app (not in the play store)
Anyway, I think the best it to try it yourself ... Uninstall will always stay an option
Updated - bugs fixed (by your requests and queries, thank you)
Donation version is up for helping with the development costs :good:
I just downloaded the app a few minutes ago. So far, very good. I'll write a review at the Play store later this week, and if I'm still using the app in a week, I'll definitely purchase the donation version.
Thanks!
I was finding my Archos 43 Gen8 device with its puny 256mb RAM unusable with regular launchers so I decided to roll my own from scratch: TinyLaunch.
The main development rules were:
- use very little RAM
- run on lots of devices (all the way back to Android 1.5 -- the subject line is wrong when it says 1.6)
- get out of the way and avoid doing anything in the background while other apps are running
- run fast once it's configured (but currently the configuration app scan is slow)
- nothing extraneous--no pretty extra icons, no help information, and of course no ads of any sort (not even a link to my other apps--all that is wasted memory)
I plan for the apk never to exceed 40K. Currently it's 29K.
This is *extremely* low-featured. At base, it just presents a simple scrolling list of apps (with categorization features) with no icons (though you can turn on icons, at the expense of some speed: Menu, Settings). You tap on an app and there you are.
In particular:
- no widgets
- no shortcuts
These limitations may make this useless to you. But if you just want a list of apps for launching, e.g., on a device for your kids to play with, TinyLaunch may be the thing for you.
The first time you run TinyLaunch needs to scan for apps. This is a very slow process on my Archos 43 (at least for apps moved to SD), though faster on modern devices.
By default TinyLaunch just shows a simple list of apps. Choosing Menu, Settings lets you include icons (slower) and a more standard tiled view (slower).
Instead of folders, I implemented a category system inspired by PalmOS, though with some variations (the main one is that apps can be in more than one category).
By default there are three special categories: All, Unclassified and Hidden. You can make some custom categories like "Games" and "Math and Science" by pressing MENU and New Category. To categorize apps, the easiest way is to switch the category to Unclassified (tap on the category selector at the top of the screen), and then long tap on an app to choose how to classify it. The app then disappears from the Unclassified category. Note that the Hidden category is a special category that hides apps from the All and Unclassified views (though a Hidden app can still show up in other categories if you like).

Can we have a screenshot?
I just uploaded a new version. This includes a more standard and less ugly tile view (but slower). And I included the screenshots in the post above.
Maybe you should put some steps for minimum memory use - medium memory use - normal ? Therefore this launcher might be used by other users who has a bit more ram? Btw, your idea is so nice and really suitable with google kitkat's idea "less ram, more work, high speed"

I just uploaded 0.07. Minor tweaks to the display. Option to lock orientation. And now the scanning happens when you need it to, I think.

Any chance of a light theme? Am trying your launcher out on a rooted Nook Simple Touch which has an e-ink display. Other than being a bit dark seems to be running well, thanks. Will also try it on my Gen 8 Archos 70.

Thanks for the idea! I implemented it in 0.10. (At no size cost, since I also optimized some code at the same time.) Should be up on Google Play now. Menu, Settings, Light theme.

Thanks for implementing a light theme, unfortunately I just get a black screen with no text when I choose the light theme on my Nook Simple Touch with Android 2.1. Also doesn't work properly on my Archos A70 using 2.2 but works as expected on my Nexus 10 running 4.3. Do you think it could be an issue with Android 2.1 and 2.2?
EDIT
Light theme also not working properly on ZTE Skate running 2.3.

I foolishly only tested on Genymotion running 4.3, not an actual device. Yeah, it doesn't work on 2.2. I fixed that, and uploaded 0.11 to Google Play. Should be up soon.

Would anyone find this useful on a tablet and hence would like more than four columns of icons? (Currently the number of columns is hard-coded. It would probably add about 2K to the apk to make it more flexible.)
I added a feature that works sort of like a home screen. If you have a category named "Home" (capital H, everything else lowercase), then pressing the Home button toggles you between the Home category and the All category. So you can just put your most frequently used apps in the Home category. If you want a plain PalmOS-style launcher, just don't make a category with that name.
I added a very primitive toddler lock to TinyLaunch. If you turn it on, then the HIDDEN category disappears completely, and the access to all the menu functions disappears until you type "Not toddler". I use it on my Nexus 7 in conjunction with a restricted profile to make the Amazon Appstore (which I need to have available for the sake of the toddler apps that are tied to it) inaccessible to the toddler--I just set the Appstore to be hidden in TinyLaunch
i just got a new toy - Archos 70b Cobalt and wanted to thank you!
i change the homescreens on all my devices to some minimal ones like "search based launcher" and "organised drawer". while trawling the archos forums, i happened across your TinyLaunch. i like it so much that it has become the default launcher on not just my archos, but also my samsung galaxy ace mobile and nook simple touch ereader (with light theme).
i like what you have done with the Home category, and apps in multiple categories. i don't use/need any other features.

your white theme has white menu, which is nice. but the default black theme menu is white which seems to conflict.. might look better with black menu.

rather than hardcoding, perhaps let the user enter a number? should be simpler and more flexible for different devices. my tablet particularly in landscape mode could use far more columns.
btw, can you tell me how to get those nice soft-buttons, on your screenshots, at the bottom? my archos has just the standard three jelly-bean buttons in a wide band. i could do with a thinner band, and few more buttons on it. or more preferably have the buttons on my notification bar, like on my nook.
Color Changer adjusts the screen color in all apps. Needs root, of course.
Free version: Google Play.
Pro version: Google Play.
Free(!) pro version 1.12 for Android 4.4-5.1 only: sideload.
The free version lets you change the screen to red on black or to green on black, as well as to invert the screen (either in regular colors, or in green or red mode). This is nice for maintaining dark adaptation. The free version also includes color blindness support modes (you already have them if you have Lollipop, but they might be useful for colorblind Kitkat users) and gamma adjustment.
You can also have a widget for changing colors and it includes a Tasker plugin.
The Pro version gives a bunch more pre-set color themes (black and white, amber, sepia, mono sepia, no blue), as well as custom color settings (R/G/B/saturation), and quick color changes via the notification area.
Color Changer may slow down games by about 20% (exactly to the same extent that the stock Lollipop color reverse and colorblindness settings do), but seems compatible with all apps I've tried, with the exception of Chainfire's CF.Lumen (which does similar things but installs a persistent driver; CF.Lumen works faster with games, but for my purposes I prefer ColorChanger's interface).
Color Changer is a successor to my GalacticNight app which did mostly the same thing, but GalacticNight was only for some Galaxy phones and without the custom settings.
Do not turn on the "start on boot" option until you've tested the app thoroughly.

Hi..it's a great app..just tried your beta version..it works well. I am yet to find a serious bug.
I have tried Tasker action as per your instruction ..it works well except for the minor aspect that every time I enter or exit an app that has color change tagged, app screen of "color Changer is flashing before the launch of actual app.
For example...if have put an action to change screen to "BW" when I launch flibboard. Now when I launch flibboard from home screen instead of opening the app directly, I am getting a flash of color chnager app screen.
Possible to fix? Thanks again for this nice app..

The way I'm implementing Tasker integration right now is by launching ColorChanger, and, yes, that results in a flash of the app screen. I think that the way to get around this is for me to write a proper Tasker plugin. I haven't done that before, so I don't know exactly how easy it is. I am not sure I'll get around to this before the initial release, though I do really like the idea of doing this eventually. Thanks for the report.
p.s. When reporting issues, please tell me if you're using 4.4 or 5.x. ColorChanger works very differently on the two operating systems.
I now included a full-blown Tasker plugin. If you use that instead of the old method, you will avoid flashing the app screen. (On 4.4.x, you will still get a flash of weird color, as in every Color Changer change, because of how the app works.)

Thank you for fixing it so fast! I am still staying on kitkat so may be I can't use your new plug in yet..but it's okay ..it's very manageable
I am finding your app very useful ..as I read a lot on my phone, this is helping me to save battery and easy on eyes..
To clarify: The plugin does work on Kitkat. It's just that on Kitkat, whenever you change color there are two color changes with a short pause between them.

Yup..yup..I got it..I am using it on kk..I am just saying that flash of color Changer is okay to manage ..
On a separate note..didn't find any other bug so far on kitkat ..
I've officially released 1.00 on Google Play.
How much interest would there be in gamma adjustment? It might not be dynamic: it might just be a single setting per boot.
The gamma setting facilities are current available in the pre-release beta here. Press the Settings icon in the app to access them.
Lowering gamma to 1.8 or so may help some devices with black crush problems (near-black colors disappearing).
nice
I've updated the beta test version that sets gamma to fix various bugs.

You mean like the Samsung black and white mode?
Yeah, except that Color Changer won't save batteries in black and white mode. (In fact, I don't really know why Samsung made their power save mode be black and white. On OLED displays you can save power by turning off two of the three RGB colors, but if you run in black and white all three RGB colors are there. Maybe the GPU is used less heavily in black and white mode?)
It MIGHT in red or green mode, though it depends on the device (Color Changer makes the GPU get used more heavily).
I posted a new beta which fixes some bugs. It's also about 0.5mb smaller!
This might be my favourite app ever! My S4 has a slight green tint to it compared to 'clean' displays like the Moto G and it bugs the hell out of me at night - this is exactly what I've been looking for!
One thing - it's rather hard to compare the effect to normal in the app using the pictures - would it be possible to implement 'floating' sliders which display only the slider and the app underneath - ie Chrome with lots of white - just like the brightness slider does on Lollipop?
Thanks for your great app otherwise, I'll try it out tonight!

The Lorem Ipsum picture in the app has a lot of white. I was hoping that between the pencils, the LARPers and Lorem Ipsum one could calibrate well enough.
Unfortunately, I can't do the floating thing very well because of technical details of how Color Changer works (which is, admittedly, kludgy on 4.4).
Version 1.05 is now released on Google Play. Includes gamma support, improved landscape interface, lots of bug fixes, etc.
I posted a new version. The free version now includes amber mode permanently. The pro version now allows naming the custom modes when you edit them. Easier than remembering the numbers.
I've just updated the free and pro versions to include an Outdoor mode, which makes everything oversaturated (kind of like the outdoor mode in the camera on some Samsung devices). By default there is no button for Outdoor mode (to avoid clutter) but you can access it from the new extras (three dot) menu which lists modes that don't have buttons. In the settings you can also activate the Outdoor mode button.
The extras menu will probably be generally useful as a way of avoiding clutter.
