Noob question??? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Im getting a replacement g2x If I did a titanium backup on the one I'm getting rid of can I still restore my apps to my new phone if I root it or will I need to start from scratch?

You can restore your apps once it's rooted, of course. Just don't do a batch and don't restore data. Only pick and choose which apps you want.

So when I get my new phone I just need to root it and it will restore the apps I had installed from my old phone?

Will I have to redo everything?

redo everything.............. Like buy the phone again? <- is a joke
It depends on if you have anything backed up or not.
i meant redo all my config settings for phone and apps etc
I got mybackup pro but without root i cant backup data
rewording would the newest root method leave me with bare stock rom or will my apps and data be safe?
Bare stock it will be just like powering on the phone for the first time. Though market sometimes (not always) will sync your apps back to your phone. You can also back up your contacts to Google, and sometimes not always Google will save your background. Everything else you will have to redo.

Yep, you'll be starting over.

dang i shouldve rooted right away
After you root the first ROM will make you start from scratch, afterwards you can use Titanium Backup to restore everything.

[Q] Cloning phone? Everything on one inspire to another...

So my friend dropped her phone and cracked the screen... she got a replacement but doesn't want to start from scratch. Is there a way to back up all settings, sms messages, apps, etc., etc. on her phone and restore it to the new one? I was thinking Titanium Backup or Nandroid might work but was wanting to get some input from this community before I went at it on my own.
Dell has a backup and restore app that does it for my phone but I have yet to find anything quite like it for a HTC.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!
Yes I would back up all apps using titanium back up and for sms....you can try nandroid, but not many have tried to load nandroid on another phone coming from another.

Not really thought about but why couldn't you do a back up through cwm then root the new phone... Install cwm, transfer sdcard from old to new phone then restore backup.
Theoretically it seems like it would work.

Give it a shot and let me know how it turns out

i can assure you nandroids (CWM backups) will work fine going from phone to phone. i have done this on multiple captivates, when i switched from my G2 to my desire z, on various mytouch4gs, etc
Nandoid is the way to go. If its rooted boot into recovery and choose backup/restore option and backup. It will take a while and makesure you have ample battery. Don't be scared when you hear Nandroid. Its a term comprised of NAND and android. NAND is just the type of flash memory that most portible electronics use. You have to reroot and reinstall rom manager and reflash recovery. And then boot into recovery on your new phone and choose the same option and restore. Make sure you have ample space on your SD card.

[Q] Flashing Roms and Backing Up Data

Hey guys,
I've been flashing Roms non-stop trying to find one that I like. The main problem I'm having with this is that I have to go back and redownload each app every time I flash a new rom.
I've heard people say that you should absolutely not use titanium back up, but they don't give reasons.
How do you guys do it? This is crazy...
Titanium backup is fine, just don't restore system data, ever. Restore MISSING apps with data and you'll be just fine.

Can I update to GB w/o a hard reset?

For the last couple of months my Charge has been asking for the gb ota update. if i choose to install now it fails due to my phone being rooted. Im still on froyo and have been wanting to take the update. I would like to keep root, voodoo, all of my apps, phones settings, and theme. Is there a way to get the update without having to have the phone go into a hard reset? Its just very time conusming for me to try and put my phone back into the condition that it is in now with all my settings/apps. I just want to keep everything the way it is but including GB. Any way to do this?
Titanium Backup. Back up, and install a custom GB ROM. Then restore.

I used to be very cautious with flashing/upgrading. Then I decided to bite the bullet and just learn the ropes of backing up and keeping all the files I need to reflash and get back up and running quickly.
I suggest using CWM 4.0.1.4 for making and restoring backups in recovery, which can really be great- it saved me a lot of time.
How do your restore when the phone has been hard reset, with no root and no titanium?
The custom gb roms comes pre rooted rven with CWM(infinity..tweakstock...humble....eclipse))Get TiBa from market and restore

Titanium backup

Does anyone know if there is an ICS rom that I can use titanium backup, or am I the only one with that problem. It doesn't let me backup or restore?

It worked for me when I try them.

when you say it wont let you restore what happens when you try? I use titanium on ICS all the time, only thing you have to be careful of is restoring apps that aren't compatible with ICS. doing so usually results in a bootloop.
I think what regp was trying to say above me is don't backup and restore "system apps" only "user apps"
Also if it wont do anything for you make sure you have root access and try updating titanium backup.
If both those methods don't help go into settings>applications>manage applications "clear data" for titanium backup
Pin it to Win it.
what I'm saying is there are apps that are not compatible with android 4.0. if you restore any of those apps your phone will bootloop even if you restore without the data.
The apps I try to restore are as simple as dolphin browser or like kik. It will say restoring, but then after that it wont prompt me to install or anything it will just say done and then nothing. I wont have the app installed?

I've never got any bootloop with any of the apps. Its just weird and doesn't let me restore or backup. I have Hellfire ICS rom running.

I had this problem before. Go into TB and go to preferences then scroll down until you get to app processing mode then try all of those options since I don't remember which option is right.
If I helped you, please donate if you can so I can continue helping you guys!
