My gf needs to send in her cappy for warrinty exchange, how do I unroot a stock 2.2? I think I rooted it with superoneclick root. I tryed odin 1 click, that just wiped but kept it rooted 2.2. Wat do? Thx
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
odin one click flashes 2.1
so if you were still 2.2 after you didnt use one click.
you probably used the other " odin flasher " and there are many different "stocks" that can be flashed with that.
if you used " super one click " to root... what should you try to unroot?
the same program....
Actually it sounds like he had odin oneclick but just master cleared.
instead of clicking start in download mode to flash 2.1
This load should work for you...
Downlaod For Odin 1-click JF6
Instructions on how to use
Basically, extract the package...then:
- run the file in administrator mode if on Vista or Win7.
- Put your phone into download mode
- Connect to PC via USB cable
- Click Start
This should put your cappy back to Eclair 2.1...pure stock.
Hope this info helps.
If all your trying to do is unroot then use the same program superoneclick if you have removed bloatware then flash back to stock

It has worked fine for me plenty of times as long as I used superoneclick to root

I used SuperOneClick to root when 2.2 first came out. Nothing 2.1 is unrooting my 2.2 captivate. The usual message back is "E: verification not correct."

I was tweeting with a samsung helpdesk person. Here is what she said about kies mini:
"Currently Kies Mini doesn't perform any functions for the Captivate. As for 2.2 I don't have any information but we are working on it. "
If I flash stock JF6 then does it mean that I cannot get the JH7 update through kies mini? Anyone recently (last few days or so) did this kind of update through kies mini? Help is appreciated. Thanks

She's right, as far as compared to regular Kies, which has lots of functions. On the Captivate all it can do is update the ROM. You should still be able to update to JH7 with it.

Do the flash back to JF6, using Odin3 One-Click.
After done phone boots, wait till done, do a Master-Clear with Odin3
Kies-Mini will then work for you
You could use the OTA JH7 also
Using Kies-Mini is the way I would go/went

Did you try kies mini or the full version kies that we can download from the non-US samsung site? My kies mini works just fine to identify my captivate. Have you put the phone on USB debugging and kies(firmware update) modes before connecting the USB? Also, you need to open the kies mini on your comp before you connect the cable to your phone. If you did all these but still facing problem then I am sorry I don't have a clue

If you have flashed a custom rom, modem, or kernal, and are receiving a "Unregistered Device" or "The update could not be installed" errors in Kies, you might need to restore your /efs folder from backup after flashing Odin stock JF6 and rooting. (I used adb to restore my backed up folder.) Then reboot a couple of times. After verifying your restore to be a success, flash with Odin once more and you should be good to update to JH7. This process worked for me just yesterday. I think the error has something to do with product codes inside of an encrypted file called nv_data.bin. There are guides for the backup and restoral process in the dev sections and in the i9000 area. Just run a search for "restore nv_data.bin" and it should turn up in the first few results. Also trying using different usb ports has worked for me in the past.

Did not know that. Will revert to stock TW launcer and see what happens. Use LauncherPro primarily.

The next in the series of Odin flashable files, here's drhonk's Bali kernel for the SGS4G in an Odin flashable format! No more having to mess with pushing a custom recovery file to /system, as long as you have a Windows PC with Odin on it you'll be good to go.
FEATURES
Roots your phone
Installs ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM/CWR)
The UV kernel gives you more freedom for overclock settings.
NOTES
This is for FROYO ONLY versions 2.2.x only, NOT 2.3.x
Comes in 2 flavors, UV which is undervolted, and regular.
Please read drhonk's original thread for features and usage.
INSTRUCTIONS
1) Download the file to your Windows PC
2) Extract the 7-Zip file using a compatible program, such as 7-Zip
3) Load up the file in Odin, putting it in the PDA section
4) Flash
5) Success!
ODIN
Learn how to flash files with Odin using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001759
All files go into the PDA section of Odin. Your Odin screen should look like this:
KERNELS
bali3.3UV.7z
bali3.3.7z

Sorry for the noob questions, I'm used to a vibrant so this is all different to me. Just to be clear about what this does....basically it just roots the phone and adds cwm, but does not change anything about the phone other than that or wipe settings/ data?
I'm using a mac that I have parallels with xp on. Would this work that way? I had trouble trying to root before on parallels with superoneclick...the file just wouldn't run. Also, i'm assuming the phone needs to be in download mode for this to work?
Thanks.
You will not lose data. Yes, it gives you root and cwm. Yes, you have to be in download mode.
Are you dual booting or running vmware?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
i'm not exactly sure, i'm running parallels within osx so I think that would qualify as a virtual machine...I don't know what you mean by dual booting
Well, i've tried it in parallels and no luck. Odin opens fine and loads up the tar file. However it never recognizes the phone. I have the correct samsung drivers installed and windows recognizes that the phone is plugged in, it just doesn't make it into odin. It seems that there is just no way for me to root this phone with a mac, and unfortunately i don't know anybody with a pc. Oh how I wish somebody could make an app for the market that would root just like the vibrant...... it was sooo easy with that phone.....oh well
Well this isn't a vibrant, so I will end that argument there.
Are you in download mode when connecting to Odin?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Why not give heimdall a try. You can flash bali through odin and you'll get your phone rooted and get cwm installed.

yes, I am in download mode, it just doesn't show up. I've heard that odin can be picky about usb issues, so perhaps there are too many factors at play between the mac and windows interface for it.....I don't know. And, I'm definitely not trying to start a vibrant vs 4g argument, i understand that they are very different. I'm just frustrated that i'm having such a hard time rooting this phone.
I've never tried heimdall, is it a vm as well....similar to parallells?
Thanks for taking time to read this and give advice btw....it really is appreciated regardless of whether I get this working or not.
Heimdall is a flashing program for windows/mac/linux. The author of it reverse engineered Odin's file transfer protocol and made that program available for free.
I am using this so yes it works.
Download included at the bottom if your phone bricks use ODIN to unbrick it.

honestly, I think it's easier to just grab one of DrHonk's rooted kernels from the dev section and flash that via ODIN, and it also gets you CWM.
Just make sure you don't try to flash a gingerbread (2.3.x) kernel over a froyo (2.2.x) rom and vice versa
Can i do this running 2.2.1? Like updating from Froyo to this firmware, or do I have to update to something else first?
Dr Honk also has froyo kernels posted. Also you could try any of the great roms here as most of them are rooted. Just be sure to read the Noobs guide to flashing very carefully. In the Android developement section RaverX3X has posted the latest stock kernel + root + deodexed + debloat. Your best bet if you want stock.
The only problem I'm having with this root is I can't get Wi-Fi to work.

If you just want root, you can use the latest SuperOneClick. If you want root/CWM/voodoo lagfix you can:
- Install drhonk's kj1 kernel via ODIN
- Install bhundven's KJ6 Heimdall One-Click
I suggest the latter as it's based on the KJ6 kernel & only needs Java to install.

The upshot to the CWM in bhundven's kernel is that it's CWM 5 which doesn't have the problem with mounting /system on GB ROMs. However, you can't restore your previous CWM backups with it, either.

You must use Odin. If you can't get your computer to recognize your phone, try reloading the drivers, different USB port, and a different cable. Even if a one click method worked, you will still need Odin to load a cwm recovery if you plan to use custom roms

No, what I mean is that after I installed ICS, I restored my contacts through an app that I had backed up before and in an hour or so that contact information disappears and I have to re-restore it again from the app.
