Two questions new G2x - T-Mobile LG G2x

I picked up my phone yesterday after throwing the towel in with my Atrix 4g. I like this phone so far but I have two questions about it.
1. Does anyone know why Tune In radio will not play? It just sits and says fetching playlists.
2. How come when you call someone in your contacts it doesn't show their Facebook contact picture? Mine only shows the android dude. It shows their pic in the contact list though.
Thanks.

In answer to your first question, I can tell you that I have no problem with Tun In radio on my G2X whether I am on WiFi or 4G. It works fine for me.
I can't answer your second question because I do not sync my Facebook with my contacts since I don't think it's worth it's weight in battery power.

Same here, Tune In Radio, and ESPN Radio works fine for me.
If you manually add those contacts to your Google account, and add a pic, then they'll always be there regardless of Facebook.

for the second part of the question just use (syncmypix) been using it for about a year now, if you have contacts with the same name e.g. Britney & Britney put their last name in there.

Ok so I probably have a bad device because I just realized that my phone disconnects from Bluetooth after about 10 min of being connected and then will reconnect. This happens with my head unit in my car and also while talking on the phone through my system in my car. Has anyone heard of Bluetooth connectivity issues?
I'm going to drop by the store after work and exchange it. Thank you for the responses.

Thoughts so far

So far I love the phone. The feel and weight of the phone just seems better then my Captivate(which I gave to my wife). After not getting data on the phone unless I had WiFi on kind of sucked, but if you make a new network. You will be able to gain data back.
The only thing I am not liking is when I set up my HTC sense with Facebook, it put all my friends from facebook into my contacts list in my phone. I do not want all my friends on the list. I have tried and figure out how to delete from the list but cant figure it out. Anyone know how?
I also side loaded a few apps using the SLW program, once you download HTC sync on your computer it was easy.
I cant wait until this phone gets rooted so I can go in and change some stuff around, like ringtones. You can have custom ringtones when the phone is not plugged in to the USB but once you plug the USB in, it reverts back to the stock ringtones because it thinks shuts off your SD Card. Well you know what, I guess I can have the option to only have it charge will plugged in. That might work.
Other then that me loves the phone. Glade my wife had an upgrade so I could get the phone for $79.99 from Costco and a free charger with it. She loves my old Captivate so I was like hell ya ill trade ya!
Ha I love it...got a feeling alot of wives will be getting a captivate tommorow

I have the Evo for sprint which should be similar. Open your People/contacts app, hit menu, and you should see an option that says 'View'. Select view to choose which contacts you want displayed and deselect your Facebook account.

Ok so in the people and contacts it has my correct contacts. What am talking about is when you look at the phone on the homescreen you see the button that says phone. If you click on that it will show every one of my Facebook friends, even the ones they I dont have in my contact list. I dont want them there.
I haven't mentioned to my wife yet... she's gonna wonder why the hell I'm getting up early on a Sunday morning, probably think I'm having an affair, lol.

You are, with the Inspire 4G. hahaha
I dont regret it for a second, yeah no Real 4G but we have root, roms and radios NOW.
Also, for those that just want to install apps and leave the phone stock you can go to this thread created by me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943174
The phone feels so polished and the screen is awesome, no Craptivate screen but it will turn heads.
We have accomplished so much in so little time.
Thanks to all the devs and porters out there, this is already a more than worthwhile device and for the price you can not beat it.
Atrix is just a bad memory of Motoblur hell, good luck trying to even root that damn thing.. hahaha

Ok I know what you're saying, and I didn't even realized my phone did that until you just mentioned it. I didn't see a way to get rid of them either.
If this is bothering you because you have to scroll through so many more names to get to the contact you want to dial, have you tried the t9 smart dialer feature? Lets say you want to dial 'John', instead of scrolling all the way down to his name, just spell out his name via t9 (5 for 'j', 6 for 'o', 4 for 'h', etc). The contacts that match what you're typing will appear and you don't have to scroll through all the names. My Evo and other HTC sense phones do this ( stock android doesn't, but you can download other dialers in the market that do). If you already knew this and just don't want the names to appear, can't help you there.

i went to check this out in the store today. a few thoughts
-size is great. i compared it to my nexus one w/seidocase and it is only slightly larger... like less than a .25" larger in width and length
-weight is great. very comparable to n1 w/case
-sense 2.0 looked pretty slick.
-very fast... zero lag.
-my only stickler was the screen. i could see the "grid" dots on the display unit. is this typical of slcd?
Love it already and havent had it 5 hours yet, beats my old htc surround hands down.
This kicks the captivates ass all around, even unrooted with stock rom. Soooo glad I pulled the trigger... nice to have a decent exchange email client as part of the basic package (sorry touchdown, but the integration is a big plus... I hated the separate address books).
The more I use my phone the more I realize everything works and works well.
Have installed pretty much everything there is and it plays or runs them without a hiccup.
Obviously the only apps it will not run are the ones that require root. My plan is to do this very soon so I can take advantage of those as well.
Every single game I've installed is smooth with no lag.
Emulators work with zero issues, my plan is to try the the psx one next.
You can not measure the battery life right away, it has to get used to a few charges first. See the Desire HD forums and they will say the same.
I've made some calls and can say that it sounds great, I've tried both the loudspeaker and the ear speaker and both sound fine to me.
Obviously the small speaker will not be that loud especially at first. Still planning to use DSP Manager to see if it fixes it.
I've still to try out the gps while moving in the vehicle as well.
Build quality is very satisfying and is what's expected from HTC.
Where I had trouble getting 3G I am now getting a constant H+ according to the phone.
What else can I say I made an excellent choice and with the Sideload Wonder Machine, root, radio and custom ROMs there's room to make this phone even better with those options.

friend switched from iphone to inspire; her text messages show in the thread out of order.
any thoughts?

Did she go to an AT&T store to do the switch, or did she switch her self? Sounds like there may be an issue with her account. I would have her call AT&T either way.

If the timestamps are correct and they are out of order that is strange. You could try gosms or handcent as I believe they simply order them as they occur.

I have the same problem with my inspire 4g. like when I check my account balance from my bank. The text I get back from my bank is before the one I sent to my bank. It only happens when the texts are in the same minute. It also happens while testing my wife a lot.

Get the app in the market called SMS Time Fix, install it, run it and put a check in the box for Active and under it set the Adjustment Method to USE PHONE TIME. Works great for me! There is the occasional message that comes in out of order but for 99%, the time is correct. When you restart the phone, just go in and make sure the check in the box is for active and make sure your app killer or task manager doesn't shut it off.

Has anyone tried "Tablet talk" SMS app?

I just stumbled on an app called "Tablet Talk" and I love it so far...
I've been looking for something to use to send and received SMS from my TF and this app seems to fill the bill nicely.
It's fast; just as fast as sending messages on my phone itself. The interface is nice, and connnecting is a breeze...
Just letting everyone know in case they are in the market for an app like this.
yes great app. the dev is here also

I use it all the time. It has really been getting a workout since football season started. My son lives across the country and we have been wearing out the airwaves discussing the talent or lack thereof!
I particularly like it's ability to connect both via Bluetooth and Wireless.
Does this use Push for syncing messages?
I'm currently using SyncSMS, which does the job at a bare minimum of whats acceptable. Currently it does not support Push, and relies on preset sync-intervals or manual. Also, even tho it claims to use ~400kb storage, it hugs an entire 38mb (!!!). Quite critical on my quite crappy x8 phone.
If this is in any way smaller, and use Push, I'm all over it.
Edit: Gave it a quick spin (15 minutes refund policy.....). Seemed to be running constantly with icon in status bar (no Push?). Relied on IP address to connect, making it tedious to connect when changing WiFi networks. Shame I did not get a proper chance to see if having this app running 24/7 had any major impact on battery life. Un-installed/refunded for now.

Which is great when you want someone to use two different numbers to txt you through.
I kinda keep my cell and text separate from my GV account, so this app may be what I need.
Yes GV is great but that's beside the point of this thread
I bought the app Tablet talk and am loving it. Simple, easy, and so far not a single issue. It was well worth the $2.99 I paid for it. I probably would have paid up to $4.99 for it above that I would have gone with one of the other offerings.
I leave my tablet and SGS III connected via blue tooth and leave the wifi just for internet usage. The small size of the app is really a good thing as well, since I only have the 16GB edition.
I would highly recommend the app to anyone looking to send SMS from their tablet, using their current phone number. For me it keeps confusion down with my contacts.
Yeah, I use Tablet Talk a little.. ahem.. I have over 6000 text messages in the messaging thread to my Fiancée.. And I use it ALL the time. When I have to use my phone to send a text I start to get the hives. It is by far the app that I use the most on my tablet. I have kind of a low self esteem and she is a HOT Russian (previous model / previous gymnast) and I need to make sure she thinks about me every 5 minutes or so..BRB.... Yeah.. she's still there. ahem.
Anyway.. Really is a great app. When there was an issue with MMS which I found right away after an update the dev responded right away and sent me code to fix it the next day and quickly updated it for everyone.
I of course just got her a TF700 for Christmas and I need to somehow get something that works with her Iphone now. It's too bad TT doesn't have an iphone client.. That of course would be the bomb.
Great app.

Yes, love it.
Very good app. You can sync messages through by connecting through bluetooth "less battery then wifi", if they are on the same wifi network "aka home", or if you are on your phones wifi hotspot "aka using your phone for mobile internet"
You can also sync all messages from your phone to your tablet so you arnt out of your conversation. You can sync anytime. Dark theme to save battery.
It is relly nice to text on from your number walking around your house while your phone is charging
I'm now too using tablet talk mine came with a phone dialer too for Bluetooth usage tho

[Q] Weird Sound

OK, this may be an odd question but here goes...
My phone's been playing this weird Sci Fi type sound at completely random times. I have no idea if this is due to a system function or an app. I've used ES File Manager to scan the SD card for all media files and it's not on the card. It won't scan the system directory and Root Explorer doesn't seem to have a scan function either. I've only noticed this happening once every few days and when I check the phone afterward I don't see any unfamiliar alerts or messages.
Took me a while to track down a reasonably facsimile... It sounds similar to the last sound in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPOU-AUuxKw&feature=related
(skip to 2:08)
What ROM are you using?
It's rooted but it's the stock ROM. I got the phone right after Christmas because my HD2 just up and died. After rooting and de-bloating the phone I haven't felt the need, yet, to try a custom ROM.
Also, I've disabled the bootup animations.
Wow, that's freaking creepy!

Definitely creepy. No notifications or anything, eh? I'd probably make a backup of the contacts (if you're not synching them with T-Mobile or Google already) and anything else that's important, then do a factory data reset to see if it continues to happen.

Hahaha... Right?! It played at 4:30 this morning. The phone was just sitting on the night stand. So it's got to be some sort of system function or application that's being run by the OS. I've double checked all the ring tones and notification tones for all email, messaging and calendar apps and can't find it anywhere. If this sound persists I'll just have to go with the "my phone is possessed" explanation.
After some more investigation, I've found this sound is made by a musical instrument called a blaster beam. (Of course, if there is a Blaster Beam App, it's not installed on my phone. ) And it actually sounds closer to the sound of the seismic charges from Star Wars II. The two sounds are compared here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAEoZ-dJjZ4&
This is just really freaky.
Yeah, weird sound. LOL. I can't fathom what would make it do that.

No, nothing out of the ordinary. When I heard the sound this morning I checked and there was nothing but a couple gmail notifications. I checked the gmail and email properties, of course, and there is no such sound in the list.
Yeah, if I can't figure out where this is coming from I'll do the factory reset. Not quite ready to do that yet, though. Got to admit... My curiosity is getting the better of me.

Huh. Good suggestion but that's not it either. I don't have a twitter app installed and though I do have Facebook, I never stay logged in. Checked it anyway, though, and none of the notification sounds are the right one.

Still on the factory stock ROM. Never loaded any custom ROMs. The only thing I've done to the OS is root. And that was primarily so I could install Titanium and lose the bloat that Samsung & Tmo put in.

OK, question answered. (And now I feel really stupid.)
The reason I couldn't find that sound file anywhere on the phone is because it wasn't coming from the phone. (DUH!) The sound file is called "Radon" and it was coming from my Galaxy Tab 10.1 which was sitting nearby. It was an alert notification coming from the built-in email client. I only found it because I was checking my Tab this morning when an email came in and I saw the notification flash in the status window. I probably hadn't made the connection before because I usually have the sound off on the tab so as not to disturb the wife while she's sleeping. (I can sleep through anything.)
Thank you all for your helpful suggestions.

G2x Possibilites

I'm interested in getting a G2x... Looks like good hardware for a good price right now, but I had a few questions to see if it will fit my needs.
-I'm going to be using it wifi-only. I'm planning on installing CSipSimple to use as a VOIP phone. Anyone have experience doing this? On my Samsung moment CSipSimple has terrible issues routing audio and microphone.
-I would like to hook up my wiimote and plug the phone into my TV with HDMI for emulators... Has anyone had experience with doing this? Theoretically it looks like it should work flawless.
-I may in the future want to hook it up to voice/data. But on the cheap through a prepaid carrier like straight talk. You can get sims from straight talk, but will I have to unlock the phone? Is it even possible for this to work? Has anyone here done it before?
-Wifi only, what's the battery life like? Is a full day with moderate usage (screen-on 3 hours sporadic usage, wifi always on for voip calls) possible? Without cell connections I'd think it would last longer than normal.
-Any other issues with the phone that annoy people that might turn me off to the device?
Thanks!
i just ordered one of these, waiting for it to arrive at this very moment
i saw on the LG site a TON of bad reviews on this thing, a lot of them recent. things like the phone rebooting during a call, running hot, locking up to the point you have to remove the battery, bad battery life, and a few others.
but there were just as many good reviews too, best phone ever, no issues at all, etc. and some of those from people saying they have had their phone for over a few months, so i'm hoping mine will be fine
and i too am looking at what i can do with this device. i hope i will not be dissapointed
You came to the right place, the developers here have done a great job making this phone as stable as possible. They are, of course, limited by the LG code that they are working with, but the custom ROMs correct many issues. Of course, if you get a bad phone/bad hardware, not much can be done, but that's a risk with any phone.

Just flash custom ROMs, the hardware on this phone is amazing for such a cheap price, but LG can't code software for crap.
The stock ROM is guaranteed to give you rebooting, overheating, lock ups, bad battery life, etc...
But CM7 based ROMs (NOT CM9 BASED, CM9 IS NOT FINISHED) are all pretty rock solid stable. And even some of the 2.3.3 builds are good, Bionix Reloaded is the only 2.3.3 one that has been recently updated, but man Bionix is smooth as butter.
Have fun with your new powerhouse of a phone.

I can speak specifically to this one cuz I found out the hard way. You'll need to install a CyanogenMod7 based rom for this to work. Unless something has changed, the stock based ROMs don't have the necessary blue tooth profiles to connect a wiimote, sixaxis, etc. I was running Weapon G2x and my wiimote would not connect...so I switched to CM7 and it works.
With that said i love my phone and have little to no issues since I began running custom roms.

it's an app interface to http://www.google.com/voice
Google Voice is a (free!!) virtual phone service allowing you to make and receive calls/SMS for free from a web browser and forward these calls/SMS to any other phones you own.
GrooveIP is a VOIP app that connects to google voice via your cell phone's wifi connection, so you don't need to rely on a cell voice connection.
The Google Voice android app does the same thing for SMS.
Learn something new every day, thanks!

yeah thats some good info there, thanks for that! i was reading in my t-mobile start guide and it says that wifi calling MAY be metered just like cell phone minutes, i guess i'll have to call them to verify that. one of the reasons i got this was to make free wifi calls, but i will also check out this app!
You want to check out the Talkatone app instead of the Grove IP app.
