I bought superuser 3 in the market a while ago figuring it was coming out soon, but that was in december when i had my old droid. Just wondering if anyone knows when the release of it will be, and if it'll work on the thunderbolt.
Its more a way to support the devs than anything...
Will it work on tbolt? Almost certainly.

Is that good superuser 3?

Aside from the HTC Incredible 2 and the Samsung Droid Charge coming out tomorrow, are there any other phones that will be released within the next week or 2? I'm asking because I have until the 8th of May to exchange my current Thunderbolt phone for something else through Best Buy Mobile. Was planning to pick between the 2 tomorrow but of anything else better comes out by the 8th i'd like to wait on it.
Not anything besides those two coming out before the 8th as far as I know. Except for that new Casio android phone.

OK so I just got this phone a few days ago from verizon but I'm considering doing an exchange within 14 days. What phones out now have good support as far as rooting, custom ROMs, etc. The DX2 doesn't have much going for it, it seems. I've mainly got my eye on the bionic but what are your thoughts on the current phones?
Also does anyone know anything about the Nexus Prime. As in a release date? That phone is looking sexy but if its not released within my 14 day return window I don't think I will be able to touch it.
Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any replies.

Verizon phones are pretty much anti flashing/custom roms phones.
I realize that now. This was the first phone I've rooted. If I would have known how much Verizon locks their devices down I would have just swapped carriers. Stuck for 2 years now though. Wanna make the best of it

This is probably not what you are looking for but the HTC Droid Incredible is easy to root and still has great dev support. I have one and I am thinking about upgrading to something else.

don't listen to him. incredible is horrifically underpowered as compared to modern dual core phones. Get the bionic before your 14 days is up. cyanogenMod is already in alpha for it, and its promised to get ICS.

No offense but he asked what phones for Verizon are easy to root and have good dev support. The incredible has both.
My last incredible got stuck in boot loop (first problem in over a year of ownership) so Verizon sent me a new one. They also offered me an early upgrade so I was thinking of upgrading to something else. I am still undecided if I should upgrade or not.
The Incredible is still a great phone that is both stable and fast.

I'm leaning more towards the bionic. I don't much see the point in getting a phone that is pretty far behind what's out now. Are there even any phones that can compare to the Droid right now?

which droid do you mean? if you mean the OG moto droid, then the only thing that is that weak still sold on verizion are their bottom-of-the-line free phones (moto citus, LG votrex) which are absolute POS devices.
+1 for bionic, nice phone

Guess I should have said bionic instead of just Droid but I think it was safe to assume I meant bionic since that's what I've been talking about. Do the even still sell the OG Droid?
Ill have to wait a few days and see if it will be worth the 35 dollar restocking fee plus the cash ill be eating for the case, screen protectors, and car dock. On top of the extra 200 bucks for the bionic itself lol

oops, my bad
no, there's nothing that can measure up to the bionic, and there won't be for about 2 weeks (roughly). then there will be several things
I know lol that's what I hate about the cell phone market. You can save your upgrade for months knowing that an amazing phone is about to come out then weeks, even days later here comes something better. I only have until November 2nd to make a decision though. I wish the nexus prime was coming out before then...

Galaxy Nexus
The Galaxy Nexus should be released on November 10 ,2011. Looks like you wont be able to touch it , unless you find a way of pre ordering it
I don't recall off the top of my head when the pre orders start but I think it was within my 14 days. Wonder if I can do the return with a pre order.
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
then what phone would you use?
My old Eris of course ^_^

Just thought I'd post an update. As you can see I decided to exchange for the bionic. Its actually kind of funny because the Verizon rep sold it to me for a lot less than he should of. I paid 100-50(MIR) for the X2 plus around 60 for the car charger, screen protectors, and navigation dock.
So the Bionic should have been 250-50(the actual price paid for the X2)+35 dollars for the restocking fee. So around 235 before tax. However he told me 143 after tax. Me being an idiot and a fairly honest guy told him that the price seemed low. So he went through the receipts and told me "well you paid 150 for the X2 so you get that price off of the bionic." I just nodded and smiled.
Not sure where he got 150 from but I'm not complaining. Now just to see if I still get the $50 MIR.

Get the bionic! Easy to root and great roms already. I had the incredible and loved it. But the bionic is a beast!

So back in December, Samsung stated that ICS would be available for Galaxy devices in Q1 2012 (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2397850,00.asp - among other sources).
Someone asked on Facebook when the update for the Galaxy Nexus S was coming and Samsung stated that "ICS updates for Galaxy devices will be available in early Q2." (https://www.facebook.com/samsungmobilecanada/posts/10150560045396050)...
Idk, that may be a bit different because the Nexus S is in the original Galaxy S family. Those are going to be updated after all the Galaxy S2 devices. They actually weren't even going to release the update for those phones initially.

Some rumors said march first, which would be q1 and not going to happen. Some leaked document i saw said april which would be early q2. God knows what they are doing over there. I want aosp/cm9 anyway, but if they release ics it might help get us closer.
I am so sick of this too.....
From now on I am only getting Nexus Devices
I'm sick of it too, but used to it. They just released official Gingerbread for the Captivate (my previous phone) a few weeks ago after XDA users had been running leaked versions for several months. But the devs here on XDA already have (as I understand it) some pretty kickass ICS roms available for the Captivate.
Don't hold your breath waiting for AT&T/Samsung. We'll have ICS here on XDA long before they make it officially available (but...without a secure element we won't be able to use Google Wallet--not sure how they're going to solve that one...re-issued sim cards maybe?)
Sounds like it's all Galaxy devices:
https://www.facebook.com/samsungmobilecanada/posts/10150560045396050
That being said, I wasn't holding my breath either for an official release but figured when one came it might help speed up some things here on XDA or for the CM guys.
And yeah, I was running ICS on my Cappy for a couple months before it died (needed a new mobo so the cost of upgrading to the SGS II LTE was actually cheaper than the repair on my Cappy - go figure)... the official Samsung/Rogers upgrade cycle on the Cappy was horrendous as well, bought it with Froyo, an hour later had CM7 on it, and it wasn't long afte they updated officially to GB that I was running TeamHacksung ICS alpha builds on it.
We'll be lucky to get official ICS before Jellybean is released
That is Samsung mobile Canada stating that. So may be different for us in the states. But what I think is funny is the vivid is getting the update soon, and if I'm not wrong both phones came out on the same day. So no blaming this on the carrier this time. Damn Sammy LOL.

True, it is Samsung Mobile Canada - I wasn't expecting us (or the US) to get it in Q1 anyways (officially) as the original statement I believe was for the international versions of the Galaxy S II/Note. Still, was hoping that the international stock rom would help jump/fix kinks some of the developers here are trying to overcome.
I'm in Canada, so I can only hope

To clarify, they only said the international versions of the S II and the Note would get it in Q1. The others that were announced to get ICS have never been given a time frame, other than that they would follow those two.
There seems to be a lot of confusion on that point.

Yes, I do understand that fully. Not holding my breath that the international version will be rolling out any time soon either.
Looking into the dev forum there are two promising roms one in alpha 1 with basic functions working and another one that the mods and the dev keep fighting over is a lot further along but I think was taken down again :-(. I'm guessing we have about a month maybe a bit more before we have some awesome functioning ics rom's
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
Well Q1 is still not done with, we got a whole month for them to hopefully release.
technicalities... Huge companies always drag there feet, I almost guarantee the skyrocket dev community will have ics before everyone else
ICS is ready for deployment, Samsung is waiting for approval from Google.

He's probably right, if the galaxy nexus has it, with an SOC which isn't so dissimilar to ours, they're probably sitting on it. I was also over in the t989 forum and it was stated the kang Juggernaut devs got an ics samsung release leak but are sitting on it as well. If they have it, guarantee for our phones its done
I'm not doubting if someone can back it up but thats the dudes first post not very reputable

I was just speaking in common sensical terms lol, but yeah, first post is kinda shaddy if he meant it as a concrete statement. He has been lurking since July though

ICS update on the way for SGS2 9at least in Russia) - Samsung ready to deliver it and waiting for Google approval only (from Feb, 21)"

Did Samsung finally unlock this tablet yet? I see a few roms and kernels released for it now.. Just curious been wanting to pick one up for some time.

The tablet isn't locked down. We have root and CWM, but no real source as to build more custom ROMs/Kernels/etc. We are missing important pieces of source that Samsung has not yet released, so Development is at a stand still. ICS is expected in Q2, so our best bet is to wait for now

Thanks - I found a decent deal on a T-mobile version on Craigs.. haven't met up with the guy but I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan with T-mobile I can still move into it if I do get it.. Seems like a good choice.. Would rather have the 7.7 but it's also double the price or more, and still no development.

do not buy one you will totally regret it honestly. and no they have not give any sign of a valid source code
So, my upgrade is still a year out. I'm currently on an iPhone 4, but I'm thinking about going with an Android device for my next phone. I'm on VZW. My friend keeps telling me to get a Motorola X, but if that comes out May of this year, will there be something more "worth it" come March of next year? Will the Motorola X even get a VZW flavor? What do you guys think?
I don't think it's really possible to know what will be on the market a year or so from now. I'd just wait and see.

Definitely wait, there will be some amazing new developments a year from now.
