Problem with camera's autofocus - Milestone XT720 General

Hi xda just a general question is it just me or does the camera's autofocus is pretty crap. When the I am about to.take a picture but before the picture is taken and the shutter button is pressed a little bit the image quality becomes amazing but when the picture is taken the quality sucks

Can you explain that a little more? How do you test that?

SO what I am basically saying is that camera quality becomes really good when the camera is autofoucusing but it gets worse when he camera is about to take picture. Also I would post a picture taken from the cellphone

Image without flash

From a purely "mechanics of photography" standpoint, the image with flash will have a much faster shutter speed while the picture without flash the shutter is open longer & more susceptible to to camera shake. What about a picture taken outside with good lighting & no flash? Does that produce an acceptable picture?

I will try that later

FFC take mirrored pictures?

I just realized all pics I take with the front facing camera are mirrored.... is this the case for everybody? Supposed to be like this? No way...

I guess it makes sense for.it to be mirrored.... but you would think saving a pic would correct this ... or an option....

Happens on most FFCs, including my 3DS and previous phone (iPhone 4).
Ya... it makes sense... once I thought about it... but like I said... you would think.it would show mirrored on screen but save pic properly... but.then again... only time you.would notice is if there is text.. or logos.... on well... now everyone gets to see my studly kid... hahaha

Then everyone would be pissed that all the pictures are flipping upon saving. Most front facing cams will be mirrored just so when you move left, so does the image of you. Thinking about videos.
It may appear "weird" at first, but it is REALLY weird when you flip it your way. Trust me. I used to have a WebCam with this option to "flip" and it was instantly turned off.

looking fo an app that can do this

I'm looking for an app that can make my pictures look like this one...i don't know the name of the effect....
any suggestion is welcomed...

its the effect of a wide angle distortion lens. im sure searching "fish-eye" or "photo distortion" in the market will yield some results.
Nice pic! Wish I could buy pot like that stateside

thanks for the name, i found fxcmera, but the picture quality sucks...thats the only one i found...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's just a panarama(sp?) shot. That or a DSLR taking a wide angle shot with a high fps. A fish eye would be the opposite of that shot.
Middle object with a much more unzoomed feature than a zoomed in background

Naw a panorama is when you stitch multiple shots into one. The one posted in OP is just really bad wide angle distortion.

How to improve pictures

I for some reason cannot get a decent picture out of this thing. No matter how I adjust the ev settings, in any lighting, the pics always come out blurry. Example below

So what's the trick for better pics?

Look up camera apps in the market. Fxcamera and camera 360 and Vigenette are popular for good picture quality
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
That does look bad... It looks like you didn't auto-focus, have you tried that? I think it's a long press on the camera button in the standard app.
Of course make sure the Picture Size is set to 5MP (2560x1920) and set the quality to 'Super fine'.
For third party applications, Vignette is indeed a good way to go. Has many more options than the default camera application.
Greetz
1. most important! be sure to keep the back lens cover clean. one fingerprint can mean the difference of a good picture and a blurry one.
2. lighting. watch for good lighting.
3. motion. a moving object(or your movement) will translate into a blur.
nexus s pics, stock camera app.
i have vignette and get the same results

clean the lens cover with windex(glass cleaner). it looks like the lens cover is dirty/greasy. no app will give you better pictures, only you can control the quality of your pictures.
Long press the button for focus, release to take the picture.

Camera inquiry

Hey all...
I am thinking of replacing my droid 2 global with a captivate. The only thing holding me back is the lack of a flash. Does anyone have any feedback on both indoor and outdoor shooting with the captivate? Does the camera suffer with no flash?
Feel free to post a sample if you like.
Thanks

I am not a professional photographer by any means, but I personally don't miss not having a flash. My old phone had one so I thought it was a feature I would miss, but it takes great pictures in fairly low light. Of course if it's dark out, you're screwed, but I think it does pretty well without one in most other situations, IMHO.
Yeah that's kinda the answer I have been getting.
Mu Droid 2 global sucks big time...and it has the flash!
I'd rather have an ever-so-slightly darker picture than a completely washed-out-by-the-flash picture any day of the week

Now that we have all of this red tape out of the way, let's talk price....

Continuous auto focus while capturing video

Does anybody know if there has been an attempt at trying to get the nexus s to auto focus while its capturing video? I don't understand why it has a fixed focus when shooting video. I know it can't shoot any HD video but I think it could take some pretty cool macro video if there was some way to not have a fixed focus.

Extreme close up, though used loosely in the case of phone photography.
The flower on a digital camera. It allows you to put the camera close without zooming to get a clean and clear close up. A feature that would be great on a phone.

Something like this would be "macro". I shot this the other night with my nexus s and its been color corrected slightly.
