i have a Motoroi XT720 rooted. i just want to use 3g, sms, call features of the phone. is there a way to maku it unlock?
anyone guys?
come on guys,anyone?
Well, I'll tell you that I've certainly read your posts each time you bump this, but I hesitate to answer because your question is so vague and without any details to work from.
The only way I know to remove a sim lock is to use the various shops/online stores that sell unlock codes. As far as the how to get 3G working... you need to find out what frequencies are used by your carrier and what their apn settings are.
Oh, my bad. What should i post here about my xt720? Is unlock code the only way?

I don't expect you need to unlock, but *you* asked about it in the first post...?!?
I'll just suggest that your phone is in your hands in front of your eyes giving you trouble. Most of us just aren't psychic.
If you want help, you need to tell us what you need help with as *specifically* as possible. If you don't want help just continue what you're doing and before long you'll be on everyone's block list.

Try typing words exactly as they are displayed on the phone in a dialog/error message or take a screenshot/photo. I can't even guess what "unlock thing" means. I assume you flashed the ROM yourself? Did it work on stock before you flashed the custom ROM?
oh to be clear ,the problem is i cant use SIM card. no signal, no recognition, no anything.
and yes i flashed the rom by myself. And on stock rom it does not work also.

"Sim Pin"
my phone's current state is no gsm. no sms and call features. no phone features.
I think a sim pin code is different from a subsidy lock (but I'm not 100% certain--subsidy lock is sometimes called a sim lock--sorry, it's confusing). A subsidy lock is what requires an unlock code. I know some people have reported problems using sim pin codes when using Motoroi ROMs after they were ported to Milestone XT720 (I think it was mostly French users that reported the problem--you can try searching the Bravo and XDAspecial threads in the XT720 Development section). IIRC the CyanogenMod's usually haven't had this problem, though and your signature say you're at least tried a CM7-based ROM.
I think people are suggesting that your carrier might be able to help you troubleshoot the problem. It sounds like a configuration problem on your sim card. It could be that you need a different sim card or that they need to reprogram it. At the very least I think you should know what the sim pin code is...

Sim pin lock: you have to enter a pin that you choose to use the phone
Subsidy lock: the phone is sold under contract by a particular carrier (suppose: SKTelecom) and only will work with a sim card from that same carrier.
To remove a sim lock you need to get an unlock code. I have not done this, but there are companies that you can purchase this from online. You have to provide them information about your phone (IMIE code and others I think) and they use some server to compute an unlock code that you enter in the phone. I think the online services charge something like $15 to provide the code. There are many videos on youtube showing how to unlock the XT720 (for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSCNxR2yzMw -- not an endorsement/recomendation/anything of that company -- just the first thing I found when searching youtube for "xt720 unlock"). So you can look at those videos and see if that's what you need to do or if you're seeing something else. There are also links in related videos that claim to tell you how you might go about generating the unlock code yourself (warez).

Rooted Verizon SGS3 working with T-Mobile sim, no APN available

This may not be directly development oriented, but it will help somebody with their development research, so I am posting here, there is at least another sim-unlock related thread in this part of the forum.
I thought this would help someone fully unlock the sim-lock knowing that this phone is already partially (or fully) sim-unlocked, at least when it's rooted. I can make and receive calls on my Verizon SGS3 with a T-Mobile sim, without even trying to sim-unlock it yet.
I have a rooted Verizon SGS3, I read on this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775566 that you can sim-unlock the VZW version with the generic unlock codes on the preorder contract agreement, so I tried putting in my modified (cut to micro-size) T-Mobile sim in my SGS3. Well, at first nothing happened, then I used the "phone info" app to swich to LTE/WCDMA/GSM network mode. It took a few seconds, and I ended up getting my text and voicemail from T-Mo, I have FULL gms (voice) signal (-77 dBm, 18 asu), but under network option I cannot see any APN's. I have a lot more settings options though under "more settings > mobile networks, some of which aare "network mode" and "network operators". I have attached a screenshot from my notification area. I have an ongoing "Non-Verizon sim", but you can see it shows T-Mo as the operator. If you're wondering about the wifi toggle being there, this is not a fake screenshot from another carrier, I used the instructions from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775235 to add it in.
Anyway, it was said in the forum that supposedly you can enter the generic unlock codes somewhere when the phone detects a non-verizon sim, but that may just be for an un-rooted VZW SGS3 though, it won't let me do anything when I click on the sim notification. I don't know where to enter any code.
Also, it has no APN's, I only get voice, no data, even when I turn on the data. Is there any way (or any app to use) to enter APN data?
I can live with the ongoing sim notification, but how are APN's added so either AT&T 3G or T-Mobile Edge can be used on this phone?
You will probably have to flash an AT&T ROM to get APN settings working properly; proceed with caution...

Hi, what is the link to this thread please? Thanks
@OP - Seriously??? Why one more thread ? I mean - you quoted all the relevant threads, you've previously started related threads - why another thread about this - If you would've read @AtLemacks thread completely - you would've seen that if your phone was rooted - the phone never gave an option for an unlock code to be entered - and people could still use their T-mo or AT&T sims without issue (albeit without data/3g) - D'uh - end of rant
anyways - here are my observations thus far -
1) I was never asked to enter unlock code when I put in my At&T sim (cut it myself) - even when I wasn't rooted (like some other people reported)
2) Previous ICS TW builds for this VZW S3 always gave that irritating "Non-verizon sim" error - and also had issues with the phone.apk crashing
3) From PERSONAL experience - the JB leaks are I believe, rid of the above problem
4) The latest JB leak (VRBLJ1) does not throw up that error and automatically asks to switch to global mode in mobile networks (without any need for phoneinfo.apk) and calls work fine (atleast for AT&T which I tested)
5) I did get AT&T EDGE data to work by MANUALLY adding an apn using this thread as a guide. I get edge data on AT&T now - if I add the "AT&T phone" apn.
6) Even in the latest leak - there is no stock way of adding APNs from settings and we need to use an app or do it manually in a file - I believe.
7) I couldn't get 3G data on AT&T to work - and couldn't check for HSPA+ since I don't have the "HSPA+ data plan" of AT&T
8) I can easily switch between AT&T(working phone with edge) and VZW (LTE) without issue
9) I'm assuming - if you do similar process on a t-mo sim - it should work as well - however - 3G or HSPA+ - I don't know - maybe your own bounty thread will give some concrete answers soon
10) Also, in the newest leak - running on AT&T sim - I can end individual calls from a conference or add more than two or go private with one of them after initially putting them in conference etc - which I haven't been to do in VZW (CDMA limitation far as I know) - so they did fix the phone.apk app in the latest JB leak.

[Q] How do I add APNs on Verizon Galaxy S3 running 4.1.1?

I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 (SCH-I535) running Android 4.1.1. I was told by Verizon prior to moving to England that, with this version of Android which unlocked the "world phone" capabilities (GSM), that I would be able to use my phone abroad with a new sim on a local network.
Fast forward a few weeks, and I am in England with an Orange sim in my phone. I have no problems with voice, but I cannot access any data services (I have no trouble receiving texts, but cannot send them - I think this is a problem with the sim though). After searching around the internet for a while, it seems that the solution to my problem would be to add the Orange APN settings to my phone.
HOWEVER, Verizon's version of 4.1.1 does not allow you to edit APN settings! When you go to the APN menu, there is nothing displayed and the only settings option is to Reset to Default.
The closest thing I've found to a solution is here, but it's a bit out of date as the method isn't for 4.1.1. I'm a bit wary of rooting my phone and installing a rom, as I've never done anything like that before.
Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing that might be able to offer a solution? I would be willing to root my phone if necessary, but I'd need to be directed to a pretty explicit noob guide for doing that :silly:
Thanks!
Getting root is easy with the toolkit linked. Should you have any questions you can read the thread or search galaxy s3 toolkit on YouTube. Just keep in mind some videos are outdated and that you have a Verizon cdma galaxy S3 running 4.1.1.

Search this same thread and the APN fixes are here. There is also an APN fix in Note 2 forum that should work. Once you change APN should be good to go with Orange. Say hi to my Uncle in Birmingham. He on Orange also. Cheers.
What ended up being your solution?
I'm going to Italy tomorrow with a Verizon S3 and APN settings are locked. The phone is rooted and I would love to be able to use a local SIM on data!
Thanks in advance.

No solution yet. I'm going to look at the link above when I can get some time to sit down and focus on it. Hopefully it fixes it.
BTW, although it's billed as a CDMA phone, it is able to operate on GSM as well. That's the whole "world phone" thing that Verizon has been talking about.

I understand it's a world phone, but I wanted to drop that in because I wasn't sure if the Toolkit states "CDMA" under the device selection screen. I know the Galaxy Nexus or Razr Toolkit specifically stated CDMA. I just didn't want you to accidentally pick the wrong one. After looking at screen shots of the Toolkit you shouldn't have a problem it doesn't mention CDMA only Verizon is stated.
Unable to add APN.

Hey there,
Sorry for going there, but I have not been able to find a fix for adding in the APN on a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III. I have it on Cincinnati Bell at the moment, and have it rooted. Yes.
Get titanium backup pro and make apn mgr pro a system app.
You should be good after that.
This is confirmed working on Vodafone Italy and ill post results from China and hk in about a month
And please spread the word on this.
Spiting Verizon is my new favorite hobby.
I have a very similar problem. I have a Samsung S3, not rooted, but unlocked from Verizon. I have been in Kandahar for a month or so. My SGS3 with a local provider will make and receive calls great when coverage is there. My problem is, I can only seem to text local here not back to the US, or get email and no Google Talk. I went to the shop where I got my card here, they told me that Verizon needed to unlock my phone. I know it is unlocked but I made the call home, Verizon told me what I already knew. I went back into the store, once again, next they said Verizon needed to unlock my APN? I called again, finally I got a response from Verizon saying that Samsung needs to release the patch so Verizon can unlock it. If anyone knows of such a APN patch I would greatly appreciate it. My lap top screen got cracked during a patrol so doing all of this and email is quite the B!tch! I have always had success with this forum and hope it will continue. Once I send my lap top back home to be warrantied, I will not have any way of getting the usual business done for at least a month. I'm trying to hold off on the lap top until I can get my phone fully functional. I do not have internet connection on my phone, just my computer, I guess that is the APN, that is still locked. I could do all of this if I had WiFi, but it is not allowed here by the company that provides internet. They do have WiFi in some areas, but it is always bogged down with everyone else trying to use it. Also, I am not too sure if I want to attempt to do a root, the internet service here is very slow. Thanks for your help. Please remember, I am atleast 8 1/2 hours ahead of you, so response time will be delayed.

[Q] Help! Sim Mod won't Work In The US??

Hi there,
I've a sim mod rooted MPQ and it work just fine back in China with a carrier named United Comm(WCDMA), but now I'm here in RiverSide CA and my phone won't roaming. Even if I removed the sim card, there are still signal sign and I'm not able to switch the mobile network mode to WCDMA and it ask me to activate the phone each time I turn it on. I think it's locked. I want to use a T-MOBILE sim card. Is there any thing I can do?

It keeps connecting to Sprint from the sounds of it... if you remove the SIM and it still connects to signal.
I thought there was some software modifications necessary for it to work in the US?
Did you bother reading any threads? There's several that are about this exact topic.

Well I guess I would answer that question first... can you try the SIM in another device? Does the SIM work?
Now the other issue - re-read that thread, there is some good info on frequencies if you missed it... perhaps the Q does not support the frequencies you require?
Good luck.

Again, there is some information about frequencies in that thread. The hardware specs are listed there, perhaps you are running into limitations with the frequency required.

i bought my phone on ebay (with sim-mod). someone was selling it from the us because he had problems like u. so i only paid 110€ for modded phone. was looking like new + unlocked bootloader status code 1 and unreleased test-rom with apps from sprint, google and motorola
but back to your problem go to the dialer type *#*#4636#*#*
then a menu will open. click on the first tap iam not sure but i think the name is phone information. in the window that popup scroll down.
there is a dropdown-menu. maybe that can help you. try diffrent things. i think cdma is the right?
if that doesnt help. u can change the baseband by pressing preference in the navigationBar if u are still in the phone information menu.
maybe a reboot is needed to let the changes work. but if u rebooted check first if the options u take are still set. sometimes they reset by rebooting

SCH-R530 from US Cellular - why no worky?

Hey ladies and gets,
I am new here and I do not have much experience. I have been on an android binge for a week now and I have read a lot of threads, and flashed my phone so many times already.
Here is the info:
Samsung Galaxy SIII (LTE I guess)
SCH-R530, and in some places it shows SCH-R530U
Currently running on the latest nightly cyo..10.2
IMEI starts with 99000... and I have checked its not stolen or anything - there is also a sticker behind the bat that confirms it.
Originally a US Cellular Phone, I want to get it working with T-Mobile.
Things I have tried:
-I got the Samsung Tool Kit (donated), received all the updates - and the phone still does not unlock the network operators.
-Used a method from youtube - CDMA Workshop - connect to the serial port - security - samsung defaults - screen on pc says unlocked but phone is not although it is answering to the program.
- No option for the network lock as known in the 530
-Used three different online services - but they said no can do.
- Called tmobile - and placed a request and they said - that IME does not correspond to the model of the phone(???)
I am a student, I can't afford to get anything else - so please help or point me in the right direction. Thank you
I don't think you can do it.
I don't believe it will work because Us cellular is cdma and T-Mobile is gsm.

There seem to be different opinions on the net. Phone like mine have the added abillity to receive CDMA radios i guess, but they do not lack any of the hardware for gsm.
I am not sure about any of this however, thats why I came here.

Just a little update:
I have not been able to make any progress at all.
I have updated my 4.3 on the regular basis - however when I did the nightly 6, and 7 both locked up on the boot menu.
Anyways, today i reinserted my tmobile sim card and when I try to make a call - I get Verizon Wireless automated services that say that i can be transferred to complete the call with a credit card and stuff.
Why verizon? this is a us cellular phone?
Also when i switch to gsm mode - it still does not locate any tmobile operators?
US Cell phone is a dead end. This thread might as well be deleted.

Vzw bought out USC... in some areas I believe? Any how now no the USC will not work on T-Mobile. At least not stock....yet. It may be possible to get voice working but that would be about it. If you could vet data the most it would possibly be is edge as far as I know.... If you want to try something I would try flashing a sch-i535 ROM of 4.0.x-4.1.1 Odin would be best but do not flash the radio/modem. I am not Of 100% on this but Odin might skip over the modem if flashing i535 ROM to the r530. If not mobile Odin is able to only flash selected partitions of choice. Make sure you use a pre rooted ROM. After that and it is successful you may be able to follow the guide posted some where in here on how to use the i535 globally. It will require APN pro I believe. And another app to be able to select gsm global (don't recall for sure) if you find the guide it will tell you. . good luck and let me know if that helps.
