[Q] WiFi finds networks but can't surf after Unlock/Root/Tiamat1.4.0? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks, I'm new to playing with Android & have a Motorola Xoom here, but I'm kinda stumped by what I'm seeing right now.
First off, I've unlocked my Xoom (WiFi model), put the ClockworkMod Recovery on & updated to the 1.4.0 Tiamat kernel for Xoom WiFi. I'll note that I did it the manual way with adb and not by having ClockworkMod Recovery update from a ZIP, because I was having troubles getting the file to the device.
Well now I have a Xoom tablet that sees networks in the area and only connects to my secured network with the correct password, but when I try to do any network activity from an Android app (tried web browser, market, and youtube), data doesn't appear to move, kinda like it's stuck on DNS - but even if I try a direct IP, data doesn't move.
I've been searching but haven't (yet) run across any hints about what to check... I'm really open to suggestions now - and thanks in advance!

you can try re-pushing the modules through adb or maybe run tiamat 1.4.0 from recovery with .zip file. its real easy to goof things in adb.

Thanks for the response jase!
Well I had tried manually reloading (aka the pre-ClockworkMod method) a number, and when I would adb shell back to the device, it could ping out to other devices & I could ping it from other devices, so the wifi driver was loaded. It's just that nothing could resolve a DNS name, and I couldn't even browse to a local server by IP address in the browser.
I don't have an SD card (yet) and I haven't seen nor discovered another way to download the .zip into ClockworkModRecovery to install it that way. When I try to use the CMR's option to mount the SDcard on my computer, my computer doesn't see the tablet at all - not as an ADB, fastboot, nor mass storage device. A pointer to a good thread with information on using CMR would be appreciated!

Coby Kyros 7015 no network

I have a weird one. I have a Kyros and I rooted 2.1, installed Clockworkmod, and have installed the google apps. I can connect to my home network and surk or do what ever I want without a problem. I go to work and connect and I get an IP and I am able to use Astro Filemanager wit the SMB module and get into a share on my PC, BUT, I am unable to get out to the internet. If I join my DROID1 to the same AP I am able to surf and do everything I want.
Is there a Traceroute command that I can use on the tablet to see where the packets are being dropped? What should the hosts file look like?
I am stumped
I ran into the same problem. It looks like if you go into recovery mode and wipe the cache, the connection will be OK

Uninstall OEM apps

How can I unstall factory apps so I can install the newer version? I am not interested in rooting my phone only want to remove Adobe Reader and Flash to upgrade both to a newer verison. I do not have internet access on the device and have been sideloading apps. I am still very unexperienced with adb and all of its features but have learned some. I tried to adb uninstall the app and get a message "failed" or something else saying denied or something. At first I tried to reboot in recovery mode and get an windows driver error. when I connect to adb with the phone in working order, I was apple to pull a list of factory installed programs and plugins. I am not allowed to delete any of them. Suggestions are appreciated. I do not get any error messages just sideloading programs.
From my understanding, It cant b done unless rooted.
Root your phone.

I have a dumb question. It would appear as though you have internet on your computer. Why not plug in the device, put it in internet passthrough mode (gives you internet from your computer) and let the market update the apps you can't?
Tried too many combinations of that and our stupid Internet provider here did something cause I can't connect. I had my ps3 hooked up this way before since you cant have ps3 hooked directly up they blocked it. I had to share my Internet connection so it would work. Now I can't get my phone to share with the computer tried various combinations.
Go to McDonalds, connect thru wifi, and update.

Sorry I could have given you more details. I'm in Iraq on post so it makes things more difficult.

[Q] Openvpn issues on LG G2x other than cyanogen

I am having problems with openvpn and I would really appreciate any help that I can get. I was not able to make openvpn work on Eagle Blood rom. Here are the steps I used. I installed binary file at the system/xbin using the openvpn installer from the market. I then created a folder at the root of sdcard and named it openvpn. I placed in the folder the configuration files. I then downloaded and installed openvpn settings from the market and tried to connect to openvpn. It would connect to the server (a small key would appear on the top of the screen and says connected) but data would not be tunneled through the vpn. My real IP address would still show while connected to vpn.
BTW, I flashed cyanogenmod 7 nighties #53 and it worked. I use simple mobile and data does not work with cyanogen since the APN needs to manually configured and with all the APN issues going on with cyanogen at this time, I would prefer to use another rom that would support openvpn.
Thanks in advance and I apologize in advance if I posted this at a wrong place. I am new to XDA forums.

[Q] USB WWAN - How To On Wifi Xoom?

Hello, I Know there are correct wifi usb dongles drivers in Tiamat Kernels, i have tried everything possible to get the Mobile Settings option in the Wireless setting of android with no luck, Can anybody point me to the correct procedures on how to do it? btw i have tried the methods of doing that on Acer and Asus and it didn't work, i had to flash new kernels to boot again in some cases. Thanks
Why those drivers are present but nobody want to write dialer script and instruction?
Launchpad kernel for Xoom!
Alright, Forget about Tiamat kernel, i have Team Tiamat Moray Rom on my Wifi only Xoom with the launchpad kernel from this post :
http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/lau...nel-launchpad-1-2-2-new-6-11-11-3-1-only.html
you will find in the addons (WWAN USB Addon) which is used on the launchpad to show the Mobile Menu and enable tethering as the kernel should have everything required, so why when i use it on the Xoom it doesn't work? BTW i have also disabled the Zero-CD option on the USB stick to make sure it reads as a modem when connected to usb port, i made sure that my 3g stick is compatible with the operation.
Its really interesting when i see 153 views and only one reply
You can try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118639
And I will try with CDMA modem I found one non-english article.
But just yesterday I got trouble with OTG connections, all devices are with error:
usb 2-1: new low speed USB device using tegra-ehci and address 6
usb 2-1: device not accepting address 6, error -71
hub 2-1: unable to enumerate device on port 1
It was working last night. Wtf? Do you know how to fix this? I tried to restart tablet with no luck, otg cable not working anymore.
Update 1: Nevermind, cable was broken. Fixed.
Update 2: I tried that method on link I gave you - zore result, reflashed.
P.S: Just tried your launchpad kernel - too bad that 3.1 only. I'm using Rogue now. By the way usb_wwan can be installed everywhere.
I found also this universal installer for Huawei modems attached below.
Dunno how to "dance" with this. After installing just nothing happend or I doing wrong.
thanks for you effort, OTG cables are horrible, most of the time when you get failures its caused by cables or adapters anyway,
i downloaded the attached archive and pushed all modules to my Xoom with MORAY Rom and Odachi Kernel, rebooted and nothing happened too no Mobile Settings menu, will keep trying and keep you posted
Actually I'm not sure if there should appear some menu. After this you have to see in dmesg you modem to be recognized like GSM converter but I don't. So it looks like option.ko isn't loaded. Maybe this file has to be in defferent place instead of /system/lib on Xoom? I also tried to put it in /system/lib/modules/ , also nothing happend after.
Maybe it works on older versions of ROMs? I'm using 3.2.2 stock rooted with rogue kernel + usb_wwan
Maybe, i have tried it with many roms, even the 3.1 but no luck, i think Team Tiamat would be the right ppl who would clarify everything to us, i have tried setting the kernel to launch all the modules on boot but nothing happened,we need somebody experienced in those things to help us out
Hmm... as you see there is nobody who want to help with this. Because they have 3G models or expencive portable hotspots and nobody need this.
Anyway. Did you try to put option.ko and usb_wwan.ko in system/library/modules folder and right after that set up "modules on boot"? Restart tablet, connect modem and see in dmesg. I don't have this option in my rom, so try to do that.
:s
I've tried placing the modules and loading them on boot, but it didn't work too, its not about money, actually i have 3G portable wifi router and my other android devices have the built-in wifi hotspot ,but its about doing the thing...its about the concept, why it's not working while we have everything in place, thats the weird thing, i think we will have to wait until somebody feels sorry for us then decide to help us! :s
Problem definitely in /system/build.prop it should be edited somehow, according to manual for A500 tablet.

hi, where to put this module pack? i mean how to install?
How to connect manually using Huawei 3G dongle:
You need:
- rooted xoom with Tiamat kernel (or any other which has usb_wwan.ko and option.ko attached)
- 3g dongle
1. Backup files from /etc/ppp in case when this solution don't work
2. Download attached zip and extract to /etc/ppp
3. edit /etc/ppp/gprs-connect-chat in line
Code:
'' AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"
replace 'internet' with APN name for your network
4. Now run terminal (Terminal Emulator) and type
Code:
su
stop ril-daemon
insmod /system/lib/modules/usb_wwan.ko
insmod /system/lib/modules/option.ko
pppd call gprs
Now you should have working connection (Xoom doesn't show this, but if you run browser it should work).
For me it works on Verizon Xoom with Huawei e1750, but i'm living in area where only edge is avaliable, so this is very slow connection - i need to check connection speed in other location this weekend.
For Xoom Wifi owners: this should also work for you, but with small change - after inserting modules you should check on dmesg which port(s) is using your dongle and change port number in first line of /etc/ppp/peers/gprs . It's probably /dev/ttyUSB0 but you must check.

Ask google for linux support for this wimax modem. If it works on linux it also should work in android. And most of linux tutorials are saying which driver is needed.
I also have different modem need to use, because gprs is slow and expencive.
I have Cmotech U300 (Dual mode - WiMax + CDMA Rev.A) branded for Sprint. Have no idea where to get a driver for xoom.
Looks like my modem is working under Linux, http://jebus.nu/tech-corner/sprint-u300 Dut generally I have no idea how to make it for Xoom.
My Huawei is recognized well. I set APN name, but what about APN username and password. Where are setted?
Are there any updated ppp files for the xoom on jelly bean as it does not seem to work with my one....... Also try something called "ppp widget" which seems to be easier to do but still its not worked for me on my xoom...... HELP

How to access Styx Browser & Duckduckgo sessions/tabs on my Android & transferring them to my Linux PC, possibly adb method, is root needed?

I've tried every solution recommended. My smartphone is not rooted, it is an LG L355DL, LG K31 Rebel, Android version 10. I got many tabs on my browsers that I need to transfer & review. When I try to transfer each tab one by one using my phone, old social media sessions, Facebook links, etc, I open the tab, but they reset their URL to facebook.com/login, so I often lose where I was at completely when I try to click on them to share/transfer them to my PC or anywhere.
In other words I have to open the tab again, refresh the URL, but in the process the URL changes & sometimes resets itself to the domain, common thing that happens when you're not re-logged into social media, etc. So I need a walk-through to access the session/tab files via adb method, or something.
I do not have root access to my phone. I tried to do adb pull /data/data/com.styxbrowser.browser/app_chrome/Default/* etc. I connected my PC to my phone via USB, but it doesn't work. Also this forum post may help. Here are my terminal results/attempts: www.rentry.co/cyube.
Lastly, there is interestingly another very different approach to accessing these files, it worked for my Android Kiwi browser. I connected my android to my PC via USB, opened my kiwibrowser on my Android, turned on adb on my phone, then I went to chrome://inspect/#devices in my browser on my PC. I could see all tabs & could back them all up. it works like a charm. However, it doesn't work with Styx or Duckduckgo. Not sure why.
-Thanks!
To access files in Android's /data partion this partition must got mounted R/W - what requires either Android is rooted and you run specific ADB commands or ADB can be run as root.
How do i run adb as root? i think i tried that.
have u try kde connect
