I have 2 of these and have been waiting for somebody to post an updated or custom ROM, but it seems there hasn't been one yet. I have rooted them with Z4root and that works well. I have to keep defaulting them after a while, because they both eventually start the download hang issue after a week or so. I backed up my data to the sd card and it restores easily enough, but it is a pain that they do not work as they should. If anyone has any updates in this area it would be greatly appreciated.
ROM
Do you have the original boot and restore images? I happened to brick one (the 2.1 version)

So I want to do the new sw update but can't because I deleted some stock apps so the checksum wouldn't match and a hard reset won't restore them I guess so I would flash a stock rom but am I right thinking there isn't one yet? So how can I get to an original rom and then update or maybe make the new update work?
D2G stock rom
I don't know if the update will be compatible or not but from my understanding this is pretty much the stock rom that Motorola handed Verizon to put all their bloatware on then release the phone. I did load this rom on my d2g and it works flawlessly. Might be worth a try, not a direct link but will get you headed in the right direction. The rom manager gives you the opportunity to load the barebones stock google rom or the Vanilla based version, it just downloads and flashes, works perfect I didn't even have to re-activate. It is already pre-rooted so maybe the update won't work but I just wanted to make you aware of it. I work at verizon and did the update to the floor model and my dad's stock d2g also and didn't notice any difference really. I think vzw is just fixing some of the bugs that they created anyway so having the stock rom may end up with the same result, a rom that functions perfectly, good luck!.......droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-roms/106629-rom-fission-2-4-droidx-vanilla-generic-android-aosp-like-fission-rom-manager.html
@evil yeah im kind of in the same boat, let me know if srensber solution works for you.
I froze a bunch of apps with Titanium Backup and renamed some stuff with Root Explorer. I recently just re-named everything i changed back to the factory stuff (bak -> apk) but it still doesnt seem to do any good.
I did create a number of back ups using Rom manager but i cant seem to find out where they are located and how to restore them. hmm. Not sure what to do.
Ah i realize what ive done wrong ... i didnt know you had to have bootstrap installed along with clockwork recoveryy in order to make a backup hmm. Going to need a rom of stock d2g lol.
clockwork recovery installs a boot hijack, which might be the culpirt

I cant seem to find the download link anywhere... and after you loaded this rom did you try to update to 2.4.3 ?
If anyone else has any input about this please help!
I've tried searching for this throughout the forums and I guess it's to vague to find an exact answer. So here's my problem:
A while back I had backed my original JI6 ROM for my Samsung Vibrant. I've been playing with a good set of ROMs from Team Whiskey since then. Each one I've been able to restore to a backup made of the previous ROM. However, the backup I had made for my Original Stock ROM will never restore. It just stalls during the restore. I've let it sit for about eight hours overnight a few times, but no real progress there. I'm not sure what I can do really to get that backup restored to my phone.
I have two backups, one when I first installed ROM Manager to my phone and another I made when I wanted to try out a new ROM. Each do not work. I'm either assuming some where the same file was not backed up correctly or the backup is to big? It is about 1.5GB.
Please any help in this matter would help greatly as Samsung is finally ready to release a 2.2 Update and I'd like to try this from my original-ish stock ROM.
Thank you!
nothing? no ideas?
*bump*
Hi everyone.. first post here.
I just successfully rooted my Nexus S (GT-I9020T, 2.3.4, GRJ22) using adb, recovery clockwork herring and su 2.3.6.1.
ROM Manager is working fine but I do have a couple of issues.
The recovery doesn't always stick and reverts back to the stock one from time to time (I have to flash again then from inside ROM Manager). Which could be a problem due to the next issue..
I've been trying to install some ROMs (Cynogen for instance) but in one version I get a looping boot screen and in an other it keeps going to the recovery screen. Luckily, it's the right one and I can restore a backup. I'm afraid it might revert to the stock recovery at some point and screw me.
Any thoughts on this?
I should have read some more threads first..
I fixed the recovery issue by renaming install-recover.sh using Root Explorer
So I guess I should just experiment to find good ROMs now.
Can anyone suggest a good ROM? I'm looking for improved battery use, slimmed down system, needs email apps (all google apps probably)
Sorted it all out (mount/unmount, delete caches, etc.)
It's working swimmingly now.
Running Cynogenmod 7 and loving it.
I am using Infinity 1.0.0, stable, fast and great battery life, it is a 2.3.4 rom
Hi All,
I own a Motorola Defy. I am kind of new to android developement. i had 2.2 on my phone and wanted to upgrade, followed all the steps available online for cyanogen 7.1, liquid arc, etc. with all the ROM's i had the same problem. Everything goes fine, until i reboot my phone. The moment i do that after installing new ROM. I loose network connectivity and a pop up msg comes up continously saying android.phone.com stopped responding. From there i have to do the complete wipe once again. i read in some forum about flashing radio, however i dont see this option in my recovery mode at all.
Anybody who knows how to resolve this????????
I looked this up in the forums. This applies to going from 2.1 to 2.2, but sounds like it may help you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947578
Thank you for the reply.
However, I was already running Froyo on my defy. I can also go back to that via RSD or by restoring it to the ROM i backedup before i started this testing. My concern is why i am not able to Install this custom ROM and make it working when all others can do it without any issues. I am still running Cyanogen nightly ROM (2.3.7). I also know the moment i restart my phone it will loose network connectivity and will keep getting those pop msgs. Is there a way to curb that.
Appreciate the help...
You can look for MIUI for the defy. I have also MIUI on my Defy and it works perfect
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Thanks for your reply....
I was missing the defy baseband update. Thank fully that fixed the network connectivity issue. Now i am running ICS 4.0.1 perfectly. Except the camera everything is working smooth. Had little issue with restore from Titanum backup. But an unregistered version of TB fixed it.
Greetings to All the wonderful hardworking people here!
Grab a coffee I'm going to try to be as thourogh as possible.
To start with I own and am writing this post on a SCH-I535 that is rooted, unlocked and running cm10.0.
Two weeks ago I flashed cm10 to my phone. The first time I flashed from ROM manager and it didn't take; went to rolling boot. So I restored my backup and the phone worked perfectly as it should. <-- key point there. So I waited a few days and decided to try again after doing more research and successfully flashed cm10 to my phone. I have been very happy with it as a daily driver for the last two weeks. MMS doesn't work but I can live without it. After initial flashing Skype worked flawlessly. As of yesterday 2-11-13 I can hear people but all they can hear from me is the sound of a wind tunnel. I have tried re installing Skype... re flashing the ROM to no avail. I have searched for a fix and have been unsuccessful.
So now I want to return to stock and wait till cm10.1 stable is out. I restored from my backup thinking it would be smooth like last time but I was wrong. 1st attempt android KB won't load. 2nd attempt the desktop app wouldn't load and third attempt it just kept failing on everything it seemed like. Finally I re flashed my cm backup I had and am rolling for now. What do I need to do to get my stock backup working?
If u need any additional info I'll be more than happy to get it for u.
Figured it out,,,
I solved it myself. when directly searching for a similar problem to mine i found nothing. I was watching some flashing videos and seen that some users would format /data /cache /system. I did this, restored my stock backup and everything is working fine now.
