Hi All,
I own a Motorola Defy. I am kind of new to android developement. i had 2.2 on my phone and wanted to upgrade, followed all the steps available online for cyanogen 7.1, liquid arc, etc. with all the ROM's i had the same problem. Everything goes fine, until i reboot my phone. The moment i do that after installing new ROM. I loose network connectivity and a pop up msg comes up continously saying android.phone.com stopped responding. From there i have to do the complete wipe once again. i read in some forum about flashing radio, however i dont see this option in my recovery mode at all.
Anybody who knows how to resolve this????????
I looked this up in the forums. This applies to going from 2.1 to 2.2, but sounds like it may help you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947578
Thank you for the reply.
However, I was already running Froyo on my defy. I can also go back to that via RSD or by restoring it to the ROM i backedup before i started this testing. My concern is why i am not able to Install this custom ROM and make it working when all others can do it without any issues. I am still running Cyanogen nightly ROM (2.3.7). I also know the moment i restart my phone it will loose network connectivity and will keep getting those pop msgs. Is there a way to curb that.
Appreciate the help...
You can look for MIUI for the defy. I have also MIUI on my Defy and it works perfect

Thanks for your reply....
I was missing the defy baseband update. Thank fully that fixed the network connectivity issue. Now i am running ICS 4.0.1 perfectly. Except the camera everything is working smooth. Had little issue with restore from Titanum backup. But an unregistered version of TB fixed it.

I wish I had known before flashing CM7 that many have had problems with the gps. I certainly do. I tried using my nandroid backup to go back to the Froyo ROM I had flashed from AddictiveTips, but backup and restore on ClockworkMod just leaves me with a blank screen. I've seen some tips on fixing gps, but most involving going back to a sense ROM and starting over. I'm not a computer whiz and some suggestions are hard to follow. I tried one involving Fast Reboot and Faster Fix, but it didn't work. Since ClockworkMod's restore won't work, I have to either wait for the CM7 gps problem to be fixed later or try re-installing the Froyo ROM from the SD card (which may or may not work). The gps with Froyo worked great. Any suggestions?
Nandroid backup didn't work?
And what problems are you having with gapps?
Me myself have problems in CM7 as well -> the gapps cannot be installed (well, CWM didn't mention any error when installing) but after boot up no gapps is there, after tons of research here and no solution too, and I rolled back to froyo.

CM7 working fine on my HD2. I'm running it from my SD though because I don't want to root.
From what I understand the GPS will not be fixed by a cm update its got something to do with the hardware you have to do http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11853529&postcount=2085 this to fix it. After I did the gpsclr fix mine has worked flawlessly. Also I don't think its only cm roms that have this issue.

ah i mistook gps for gapps. my mistake... lol
Odd... CM7 works perfectly on my Motorola Droid and Nook Color and I've also never had a GPS problem (even on older nightlies). What make and model is your phone? And are you running off a CM7 nightly (if so what build?) or an RC (the latest is RC4 as far as I know)?
Gps worked perfectly using Froyo (rooted, ROM from AddictiveTips). I have an HTC Desire (CDMA) from US Celular. No, I'm not running off nightlies. I installed CM7 RC4.
The fix suggested above sounds like I would have to first flash a sense ROM and then come back to CM7. Other than giving me extra space for apps, it isn't worth it. I could get by with Froyo since everything worked with it. With CM7, the gps doesn't work at all. Maps keeps searching for satellites and never finds them. I really miss not having voice directions.

all you need to do>
get a fresh rom myns or any that you like in reality it doesnt have to be sense if you just want to get away from cm7 altogether
but then boot into cm7,
plug it into your computer
load the new rom onto your phone
boot into recovery
then install the new rom.
sound good?
I appreciate the suggestions, but I decided to go back to Froyo and my gps is working again! Unfortunately, Clockworkmod won't let me re-install any backups, and I have no idea why. All I get is a blank screen. Fortunately, I can install from the SD card, which I did to get Froyo back. Since nandroid backups don't seem to work, I have to setup my phone from scratch everytime I make a ROM change.
I'm new to the whole Android scene so let me know if I left out information and what not.
I'm currently running RCMix HD v5.9.3 and decided to flash my radio. I was using Radio_12.39.60.19_26.06.04.06_M - Cingular US 1.80.502.3 and every time I made a call, my phone beeps and then hangs up. I'll eventually make a call but its very annoying. I went ahead and flashed the suggested rom from this topic (Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF - HTC WWE 1.72.405.3 R2) and I thought that fixed the problem but it is starting to happen again and when I look down I will have almost full signal if not full.
Did I do something wrong while flashing it? Should I go back to stock?
All help is appreciated! Thanks
Did you do a backup (nandroid or otherwise) before loading the current ROM?
If so, you could start from there, restoring your backup and seeing if everything is fine. If you used either of the hack kits here, then the ROM you revert back to should be rooted and close to stock, meaning you have all of your basic functionality and can verify that the hardware is working.
Think back to when you installed your current ROM of choice - did you clear the cache and data when you did it? If not, then that could be a big part of your issue right there. Try reloading the ROM again after wiping cache and data.
You could also try a ROM closer to the stock ROM like ClearDroid - very nice one that I'm using at the moment, and the guys supporting it are active here and helpful with issues (though I myself haven't had any).
This would be my personal method of resolution - to pinpoint the issues and verify the source, be it hardware or software. Feel free to get a second (or more) opinion on this - I'm not "old hat" on the Android platform yet, but I have been tinkering with this and it doesn't seem like a phone that is terribly easy to brick.
Good luck with it, and post back with your resolution - maybe you can help someone else who's seeing the same issue.
The cell coverage in your area could be over loaded. Can you make calls at night or off peak without issues?

Thanks for the info. I'll do a backup and try going back to the rooted ROM I had with the hack kit later tonight. Thanks again for the ideas. I'm hoping something works *crosses fingers*
I was having the same issue as you when running cm7 or any gingerbread Tom using the stock radio. I ended up flashing a gingerbread radio and that solved the problem but now my upload speeds suck again :-(. Give it a shot

I went ahead and wiped everything and basically went through the hack kit again to get root stock and everything seems to be working normally. I love the RCMix rom and will give start fresh from there and see if the same thing happens.
@nino313
I'll look at the gingerbread radio if things start messing up again.
[Q] [ODIN][UCLB3] AT&T 2.3.6 Gingerbread with root added - Infuse 4G - Arabic Support
[ODIN][UCLB3] AT&T 2.3.6 Gingerbread with root added - Infuse 4G
I applied the above ROM to my AT&T. So far, all is working well from what I have tested: WIFI, BlueTooth, Phone and GPS. It seems to be very stabel compare to other ROMs I applied in the past.
My delimma is that I correspond in 4 different languages and arabic is one of them. When I applied the Hebrew Arabic Patch I am able to see the arabic letters connected. However when I attempt to write any arabic text, it is all disconnected.
I could not post to the forum where I found the ROM since I am new to the XDA forum. But I believe the answer to this question may help others.
Can anyone please provide me a patch to this ROM so it can allow me to write connected arabic letters? If such a pacth exists, can you please point me to it?
Thx for any help!!!
Some of the Arabic keyboards available on the Android market have settings to connect the letters. Here is a link to one that defaults to having letters disconnected, but it offers a setting to connect them.:

Hi Ishedra/ jscott30,
I currently have a Samsung Infuse 4G with the GB 2.3.6 update. I am really only interested in rooting and getting Arabic RTL support.
You mentioned using the ROM [ODIN][UCLB3] AT&T 2.3.6 Gingerbread with root.
My questions are:
Which of the options did you go with because there are 4 of them? Or does it not matter which one?
Where do you obtain a Hebrew Arabic patch that works with this ROM. It seems Arabic support is only available in certain custom ROMs. I tried searching for a general patch that works on all rooted 2.3.6 Gingerbread but couldn't find any.
Thanks in advance!

Hi dashrendar,
Here is a link to the patch that Ishedra most likely used. It should work with any rooted UCLB3 base or rom w/ CWM recovery. If you opt for one of the options from my Odin to rooted UCLB3 thread, it sounds like you would most be interested in Option D.
Arabic patch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1467808
Arabic keyboard: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5pYnJhaGltLmtleWJvYXJkIl0
Let us know if this works, as I've not tried it myself since English is my only language.

Thanks a lot jscott30.
The Infuse is actually my wife's. I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy SII with stock ROM (2.3.6 GB).
I wanted to make sure that I can do the same patch on my wife's phone so that she is not left out.
I will definitely be following the steps you provided, but I wanted to test on my phone first. Do you recommend a similar ROM for the SGSII similar to what you did for the Infuse--basically, rooted stock software with CWM (to support the RTL patch). The goal is to be as close to stock as possible (can't afford to lose any functionality but I do welcome the ability to uninstall bloatware).
Thanks again!

Glad to help! And I haven't been around the SGSII forums to be able to suggest something similar, but I'm positive that they have similar rooted stock roms. At very least, over there they can show you how to root your phone and install CWM recovery.

Hi jscott30,
Thanks again.
I am in a bit of a dilemma. I stayed up until 4:30 AM this morning trying to resolve an issue I ran into. Sorry, I tried to post in the original thread for the stock image, but because I don't have enough posts I wasn't allowed to.
Anyway, I went with option D as you suggested. I performed the data/cache wipe in step 4 to avoid the potential boot issue. Everything else went okay.
However, after installing a bunch of applications and freezing a couple, the Phone application kept crashing. Basically, when I click on it, the screen stalls for a couple of seconds, the screen turns black with a quick all-screen white flash, then black again. Then after a couple of seconds, I see the pattern screen lock. Then I can go in again. That happened every time I clicked the Phone icon.
I performed the flash again the same way. It went fine. The first thing I checked was the Phone app, and it was working okay. However, now every time I turn on Wi-Fi or mobile network connectivity, the same crash keeps happening periodically every 10-20 seconds, which makes the phone unusable. :crying: I initially thought it was the external SD card, but I took it out and the same symptom persisted. I turned both network connections off for now and no crashes are happening.
Do you have any ideas? I thought I would post this first before I start scouring the forums in case you had any ideas.
Thanks!
I can't reproduce those issues here, so it's hard to say. Try a software factory reset by going to Settings / Privacy / Factory data reset. That may clear what is causing your issue. That package has been downloaded over 2000 times, though, and this is the first I've heard of this issue. Makes me think that something is left from a prior install. Also, do you have this issue before the Arabic patch?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
Hi jscott30,
I have done the reset as you described and it goes into a loop when it boots. I tried flashing again and this time I wanted to keep track of the order of things. I mean last night I was able to download and install a bunch of apps using WiFi without problems. I think after which I installed the Arabic patch and the crash started happening.
I flashed again about 30 minutes ago following your steps to the word. After that I did the the following:
- Skipped the Setup Wizard;
- Enabled WiFi;
- Launched the browser to ensure data is being transmitted;
- I added my wife's Google Account to make sure it's not a synch issue;
- I asked her to check her GMail on both WiFi and mobile connectivity;
It seems like it's working normally so far. I will try to apply the Arabic patch to see if it's the culprit (which would be disappointing to see it affecting Wifi/Mobile Data).
By the way, I noticed that Al Hosny instructed installing something called Aries. What is that? And do I need this as well prior to the patch?
If the patch is indeed the problem? Could it be an incompatibility with this version of the CWM kernel? (Sorry for any noob questions).
Anyway, thanks for the quick response and I'll keep you updated as to what happens.
If the patch suggested ends up being culprit, I'd PM Ishedra to ask how to apply an Arabic patch. It was a guess on my part that he used the one patch, as I've not used it before. Unfortunately, English is my only fluent language.

When you were installing the app and the OS started crashing, were you trying to install apps that you had backed up previously?
Some times, certain apps restore or apps/data restore from the older OS will cause crash on the newer OS.
When this happens, I would suggest downloading the app new from your source and do not restore them from backed up source.
Not every app/data does this...but if you ran into problems, start new.
Hi qkster,
I was actually downloading and installing those apps from the market. I only backed up/restored their relevant data/settings.
I have some good news though. Before I loaded this Arabic Patch I started looking for another one. I tried and settled on this method whose source steps are in this blog. I see the Arabic text fine, the letters were all connected in GMail, Whatsapp and Facebook. I haven't tried the keyboard because my wife showed no interest.
I apologize for not trying out the previous Arabic patch in order to confirm its functionality. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time--with my wife waiting and depending on her phone and my baby daughter wanting to play with me, it's hard to find the time.
I installed the rest of the apps for my wife and everything is working solid so far.
This is good practice for when I need to do the same steps on my brother's and dad's phones. I believe my phone will be getting ICS soon (which should have built-in Arabic language support), so we'll see.
Thanks again for the great ROM and advice guys. :good:
Hey everyone!
Been lurking for months here and finally got the guts to try myself at installing a new ROM.
I have an LG G2X with Videotron here in Quebec Canada, we are stuck on Froyo and it will never get upgraded. :/
I rooted it without issues!
I also flashed CWM 5.0.2.8
I have backed up my stock ROM to SD Card.
I have installed the following ROM's with issues.
aokp_p999_build-37
won't boot, stays at LG logo
BionixReloaded_v1.4.1_FINAL
It runs. No 4G, Wifi connects and disconnects in a loop.
update-cm-7.2.0-RC1-p999-signed
Does not boot, stays at CM screen
update-cm-7.1.0-G2x-signed
It runs. No 4G, Wifi connects and disconnects in a loop.
Bionix2-TheLegacyContinues-RC1 with Bionix2-RC1-Patch
It runs. No 4G, Wifi connects and disconnects in a loop. I had 4G work in this ROM for a bit then it stopped.
Steps I have done from CWM
Wipe phone
Wipe Cache
Wipe Davik cache (or something like that!)
Formated System
Installed ROM from ZIP
reset permissions
I also backed up my APN settings from my stock rom and added into the packaged ROMS and still no go. The APN settings for Videotron were in them already. Phone portion works and SMS also, it does say Videotron when connected with cell antenna..
I know some people on Videotron have done it in the past and the only issues were with PAN settings which seem to have been added in newer ROMs.
I have searched endlessly and now I'm at a point where I can't see straight! lol
Any ideas would really be appreciated.
Marc
Ah man nevermind! lol I was tired and figured it out while driving back from work!
Thanks anyway!
Can you post your solution in case other people have the problem?

No probs!
In most cases I was just installing an update so I'm guessing that the ROM was partially running as I had not installed the base ROM and then the updates. But some of the full ROM's listed would not get passed the splash screens...
Now I have EaglesBlood™ Ice Cream Sandwich [AOSP 4.0.4] and it's running with minimal issues!
My Wifi and 4G are running without issues!
I've had a few EBLauncher crashes that required a battery pull...
The Voicemail notification does not work with this ROM for me...
EDIT: GMail does not Sync, I need to deactivate and reactivate Sync for it to work for 1 time only... Have to do this everytime I wan't to know if I have emails...
So far, no other issues. I will try to search for the issues I am experiencing now and see what I can fine. Could not find anything on the voicemail notification issue.
hey im new to the forum and i rooted my s3 and have the r420 senergy rom installed but the wifi dooesnt work! uhhhhh i cant post in the development section till i have 10 posts. so any one who can help that would be great. ive been doing a lot of reading and what is the differnce between nightly and and regular roms? and i read that the wifi wont work on the nightly rom with out a kernel flash?>?>? Is this right? im going to try the v1.6 senergy any way .....my model is the i535 but yall probably already know that because you hacked my ip address and seen my phone plugged in J/K ha thanks in advance
First off, Synergy r433 is the latest version. And a new release is scheduled to drop any minute now.
A nightly is an experimental build that gets updated nightly. Whereas a stable build is less frequent but as the name suggests is stable. Nightly you must really know what you're doing and are be okay with occasional bugs, otherwise use the stable releases. (fyi SynergyROM stopped releasing nightlies)
As for your Wifi problem, reflash but the make sure you do a full factory reset, and then a super wipe within the AROMA installer. *This will wipe internal storage, make sure to have the ROM zip on external storage* Wifi is not bugged, I'm suggesting the was a flashing error.
Sent via SGS3 using Tapatalk
Thank you so much for replying. i was thinking the same about the nightly "name" but thanks for clarifying. i have tried several times. in clockworkmod recovery(or whatever the name is) i factory reset and in the installer i wipe everything. (on the internal sd) and then install cleanly. but my kernel doesnt flashed it says its not unlocked.?!?! how do i unock it? i unlocked the bootloader and once more so i knew for sure. and my phone says custom with a padlock unlocked symbol below. but same thing everytime...wifi is buggy. i like this rom and just want it to work...thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!! is there a special "better" kernel unlock method? my paitients are getting low...lol well my girl wants her phone stock ...F**CK THATT!!!!!!!!!! thanks man

I am experiencing the same issue.
I rooted, flashed CWO, and then installed synergy. Nothing worked... then I read that you need to unlock the bootrom so I did that, rebooted and got the same... no wifi. After unlocking the bootloader I reinstalled synergy (R484) and still WiFi will not turn on.
I followed they synergy thread for flashing and This thread for bootloader unlocks.
Provider: Verizon
Phone: GS3
ROM: SynergyROM (r484)
Recovery: ClockworkOrange
Got it fixed!
So... I only used odin... no romloader apps or any of that crap...
1: Reinstalled stock ROM
2: Reinstalled CWO
3: Reinstalled Root+Bootloader
4: Reinstalled SynergyROM
5: Enjoy! Wifi works, all applications work!
