Is there a way to use another keyboard other than the one that came with the ROM?
Yes you need the apk or zip either way, there is nothing to it unless you have some lame rom (which is 99% no chance of that)
I am able to install Gingerbread keyboard on my Samsung Captivate -- had tried it on a few ROMs such as FireFly, Continum, Coginition, etc. Able to do the same to my friend's LG Optimus which is not rooted.
Go to 4Shared and search for Gingerbread apk or other types of keyboard. You should be able to find one that work on your phone.
Gingerbread keyboard is available for free in the Android Market, as well as many other.
I got a few made in my sig.

Alright, all of us over in the Samsung Vibrant section are having market issues today.
It isn't specific to one particular ROM or anything, but I would like to know if anyone else on a different phone is having market downloading issues as well..
yes, I have a Sprint Hero running fresh rom and overclocked kernel, market has not worked for me for 2 days, I was about to reflash thinking that might fix it.
Yeah, me too. EVO with stock ROM. My downloads have been failing all day.
Alright great to know it isn't just us.. Well not great, but you know what I mean
Someone in out section also reported it was happening on there Epic
market issue
same problems here in switzerland...can t download or update any apps, i have samsung galaxy s , htc desire, disere hd...its annoing
Nexus One w/ Desire ROM, HTC Aria stock, two Vibrants and an Evo are all having problems with the Market today.
Does this work with the N1? I'm guessing it should work fine if you're on CM6 because CM6 is ****ing awesome with HID input and will pair with damn near anything, but I'm using MIUI ROM and am wondering if in general the Freedom Pro keyboard will work with the N1 rooted, unrooted, stock or custom ROM. It's a bit pricey too, so I'd like to know before I order the thing. Some dude from a tech blog said it worked with his Evo so I assume it must also work with other Android phones esp. those made by HTC, but I want to be really safe.
There are different apps on the market which allow BT keyboards to connect.
Keypro and BlueKeyboard are the 2 i can think of (the latter recommended since keypro its 10 bucks)
Since the freedom pro keyboard is pretty popular, I'd imagine it would work. Not 100% sure though.

Works fine with my N1 (stock, unrooted, 2.2.1) - bought it last week. I simply followed the online setup guide (the one supplied with the keyboard didn't have an Android section).
MIUI doesn't seem to have bluetooth keyboard HID support, as long as the keyboard is standards-compliant it should work with CM6 though.
Yeah, I've got mine in hand now. If you change it to SSP mode, it'll connect with MIUI and/or stock just fine. Pretty good too, for what it is--about the size of a netbook keyboard (possibly a bit larger) when unfolded. Takes some getting used to to type on, though.
Hello Ive been wondering if anybody has a 2.2 stock keyboard .apk that works on aospCMod. Im a big fan of it especially when i was running CM6 for my hero but now ive been having to deal with the gingerbread keyboard which i really do not enjoy as much as the 2.2 one. Ive tried many .apk files for it and none seem to work any help would be appreciated. thanks!
I don't have a copy, but you can download a 2.2 rom, rip out the Latin.apk and install it. Unsure if it will work with 2.3, but it should.
Here, try this: http://db.tt/ABhrG6I
I was wrong, I do have a copy, though I'm unsure if it is themed or not.

Ive tried that with both the aosp 2.2 rom and the cm6 rom. Just keeps force closing ill give that a try in a bit
I tried the one you gave me and its not working either. Just tells me it can't install, I always get that or a forced close.

You can create your own keyboard here. Just pick the options you want, the kitchen cooks up the apk. I've been using the same keyboard from here on 2.1, 2.2 and now 2.3.
If you need stock, choose the options to make it look like stock.
edit: deleted, irrelevant
Can it be done? I hate sense but love the keyboard as the stock ICS keyboard is very small. Can I just zip the sense non arrow keyboard onto my virtuous rom?
There used to be an old IME mod that a guy callled jonasl made which was the HTC keyboard with a whole bunch of extras. It installed like a standard apk. no flashing required, which was awesome. I used it on my old froyo and GB devices but it doesn't run on ICS. I've been trying to ask people to port it to ICS, as I don't know how to myself, but no one has helped yet. if you know how, you can try porting it yourself.
Edit: Try here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594642 Works perfectly like the old one used to, but it isn't full qHD size yet. Thinking people are working on it.
Can ANYONE please upload an apk for either the multitouch keyboard from the original razr (if it would work on the razr hd) or the motoblur ICS keyboard that came on this phone when it was first released?? Please!
My favorite keyboard ever was the multitouch that came on the original razr, but i'm not sure if it would work on this phone. But i also really like the ICS motoblur keyboard. I've looked for hours and can't find either of them. They both had really nice features that i loved that aren't in the Jelly Bean keyboard. They were a little bigger overall, also the individual keys were slightly larger, and one of my favorite features was that they auto-corrected punctuation if it was placed in the wrong place. And in general I thought it had better predictions.
Closest i could find is the froyo motorola multitouch keyboard (that i didn't really want anyway) in a zip version that i couldn't figure out how to unzip and make an apk. I'm rooted but no custom recovery, so flashing zips from a custom recovery is a no-go.
P.S. Before this thread gets side tracked like every other thread i've found along the way.... I don't intend to sound condescending or rude, but i honestly don't care what your favorite keyboard is, or why it's your favorite. And i don't want a tutorial on safestrap and custom recoveries. I'm simply looking for the apk for the original keyboard, and i would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me or point me in the right direction
Thanks!
Why don't you just pull it from the stock ROM?
To be honest, I don't know how, and I'm now on jelly bean, so I can't back it up in tibu and I'm not flashing back just for the keyboard. But thanks for the suggestion, I thought maybe someone had done it already at some point.
