[Q] can't hear anybody - Droid 2 Global General

It's a problem with my droid 2 global - I can't hear anybody who calling me from mobile phones, and they can't hear me
But when I'm calling myself from my office phone - it works fine.
After reboot I can call somebody, and talk fine, for a few times, but then - there is again silent in droid.
Phone - Droid 2 Global unlocked via code.
I updated it to 330 firmware, but there is no changes
ps sorry for my english.

What network are you using it on?

I'm using it with gsm network.

Yes - that's quite obvious since you mentioned phone is unlocked by quote. To explain you why am I asking which network, I have to tell you Droid 2 Global does not play nice with many operators accross the word when used without it's own Vodaphone/Verizon branded SIM card (and paying roaming fees to Verizon).
If I were you, I would try to perform hard reset to see if problem goes away, at least for a longer period of time.

I try to use it with Megafon in Russia.

no "voice traffic" when calling from mobile.
all good only in first call after reboot or after changing gsm settings

Same problem here, no voice transfer for Megafon while using 2G network, the workaround is to switch D2G to 3G\UMTS Only mode.
Cons of this method is that most of the time I got 5 seconds buffer whenever someone calls me before we can hear each other.
I wander if anyone got this problem with other Russian carriers like MTS and Beeline in 2G networks.
In another thread I heard about a guy with same problems in Honk Kong and there was a suggestion to replace the SIM card, tried it a few days ago and it didn't work.

For some reasons outgoing calls are more affected by this bug. Sometimes ppl were able to get through to me in 2G.

If there is no chance to select 3G Only in your ROM you may have to go back to stock or google more on the selection of 3G\UMTS Only mode
Also when you search for Network Carrier ("Search Networks") you could see Megafon 2G(25002) and Megafon 3G(25002), try to set 3G as your Preferred Network with No Automatic Selection

now the problem is - rsdlite didn't see phone.

To switch to WCDMA only use the service menu. *#*4636#*#* in dialer. Then on the phone menu you will see all the possible variants in a drop down list.

at first time 4.9 didn't see phone.
but yesterday I installed 5.0 and it found phone.
But....
After flashing rsd wrote "manualy power on phone". But when I turn on phone it's going to droid logo and rebooting. Not to motorola logo, but to inscription "droid", then loading droid logo, and again rebooting.
any ideas?

Make sure you have all latest drivers installed before you continue.
Power off the phone. Press vol+ and vol- keys simultaneously and hold them, then power on the phone. Keep pressing the vol keys. You will start in bootloader mode now (screen will say so). Plug the usb in now, RSD Lite will recognize the phone. You can flash it now.

Can you set to WCDMA preferred?

Issues w/ Preferred Network Type
Sometimes but not always, when i set it to a particular preference, it doesn't stick. Sometimes i do WCDMA only but 1 minute later, i go back in and it's reverted back to GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) default....Anyone having this issue?
There is a different menu that controls the radio on the NS.
I am not sure how you get to it through the dialer.
Download Anycut from the market.
In Anycut Add a new shortcut to "testing" which is under "activity".
Open "testing" and you should be able to to elect the band type. this one does stick
Done.
Testing just brings you to the wireless/networks screen which only has lock to 2g
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
WCDMA only = 3G. Using a shortcut to Testing instead of *#*#4636#*#* did stick after rebooting. Thanks for the tip clubtech.
whats the difference between:
GSM auto and GSM/CDMA auto? Shouldn't we just have it on GSM since tmobile doesn't have cdma?

Phone info. In Anycut there is also a shortcut for it. Look in Activities / Phone info.
Anycut works for me...but I noticed that with WCDMA only, sometimes I do get 3G on top, but the bars go from green to grey. I end up reverting to default GSM/CDMA.
If you call *#*#4636#*#*
And go to the Phone Information ...
Can you set the preferred network type to WCDMA preferred?
Because, I cant ...
As soon as I set to WCDMA preferred, closed, and re-check, it will be back to GSM/CDMA auto PRL
Both modes are more or less the same, but auto PRL will prefer EDGA on low signal.

Yes it can. I noticed the same issue when I first got the phone but now on custom rom it stays on the wcdma preferred but still resets after a reboot. Wcdma only stays after reboot.
Ah, you use custom ROM.

Did you get any issue updating SMSC?
I spent some times this morning because I accidently changed the SMSC via *#*#4636#*#*
And I could not change it back!
Every time, I got error "Update Error".
No matter what I put there:

+31 12345678

At the end, I used my old Windows Mobile, and changed the SMSC there.

The number to enter there is not the phone number. Its a modified version of it, I had to load another sim card fro the same operator and refresh then copy down the number to update it back to my sim card!
Yeah, and that's the problem. In Windows Mobile, I just enter the phone number of the SMSC.
SMSC is usually a phone number.
I checked with my provider (Vodafone NL) and it is a phone number.
If it is not on Android, then I don't know what it is
I read on Nokia (Symbian), the SMSC can be entered as phone number as well.
Probably Android is not using standard format for SMSC? At least on the user interface (to update).

3G fix for Thunderbolt

LTE is back online, please follow steps at the bottom of this post to get everything back in order.
*If you are in a 4G area it is advisable to make sure you switch to eHRPD to avoid bad hand offs between 4G and 3G as well as allowing simultaneous voice without hiccups. I noticed my GPS was not working last night so it is possible eHRPD settings will affect your gps or it could have just been due to the network issues.
As most are aware both the LTE network and eHPRD are down (a special version of 3G for the Thunderbolt only). To get 3G data back you just need to change your settings back to the normal 3G network. Here are the steps:
Dial ##778# and hit send
A pop-up window named EPST will show up giving you 2 choices: View Mode and Edit Mode. Pick: Edit Mode.
Enter the Password: 000000
Go down to Modem Settings and pick “Rev A“
You’ll want to choose enable and click OK, hit the menu button and then press “Commit Modifications.”
Restart your phone and you should see 3G is working
last step (may not be necessary)
dial *#*#4636#*#* go to phone info, then set preferred network type to CDMA auto (PRL)
I hope this helps anyone that is left in the dark by this outage.
If you are running a non-stock dialer or a rom that included a dialer it may prevent you from entering settings. Flash this zip to go back to stock dialer
http://www.mediafire.com/?9yf09ri4t2mip4z
For those that want instructions for after LTE is back on
These 2 steps will put you back on LTE and then put you back on the correct 3G for the Thunderbolt, when its back up.
dial *#*#4636#*#* to get LTE, go to phone info, set preferred network type to CDMA + LTE EvDo auto
Dial ##778# and hit send
A pop-up window named EPST will show up giving you 2 choices: View Mode and Edit Mode. Pick: Edit Mode.
Enter the Password: 000000
Go down to Modem Settings and pick “Rev A“
You’ll want to choose eHRPD and click OK, hit the menu button and then press “Commit Modifications.”

Isn't this selected by default? I changed it to "enabled" let it reboot, and 3G is back on.
By default we are setup for the eHPRD 3G network on the Thunderbolt because it allows faster switching between 4G and 3G. Since both network features are down you have to switch your settings to the 3G network used by all other Verizon phones.

It would be nice if you could add this to OP wakestrong. I think people in 4g area have cdma/lte auto option enabled so in the phone settings the phone is still trying to pick up the older cdma.

I want to know just for information, because for example in Korean version SGS3 possible to change setting for network priority and etc. see on picture
Maybe no one knows the codes yet.... It should be set on Automatic, My settings by default are perfect ,switches back and forth from 4g to 3g and the change is very quick, It does not lag or stutter at all. Even if there was a code i would never use it lol, But I guess google is your freind for now
Could this mean there is a hidden setting to just switch between WCDMA and GSM automatically?
I'm not yet in an LTE area so its pointless having the phone try to find an LTE connection. Currently I just have it locked into WCDMA but sometimes 3G reception is patchy and I want it to pick GSM automatically.

Maybe
Just Leave it In auto mode its not like your hurting the phone, If it receives a 4G signal it will switch if not then it wont, It doesnt waste any battery
The phone has this option in Settings>More settings>Mobile Networks>Network Mode>AUTO MODE (LTE/GSM/WCDMA <<<<<<<<< This is the default setting. It will switch bands depending what the coverage is. LTE being Priority then GSM then WCDMA
I am 90% of the time in a 3G area and I have it in this mode
*#197328640# - almost the same code as the SGS1.
UMTS->Debug Screen->Phone Control->Network Control->Band Selection would be what one would want to lock only into certain bands.
Guys may be this will be useful for somebody.
*#0*# - using this code you could enter to the hidden service menu and test all main phone hardware functions psychically

[Q] Network preferred type

Hello,
I have a Moto G with Android 4.3 and i want to change the network type preferred, but i didnt found this option, i always used the command *#*#4636#*#* and change to "WCDMA Only" in my old phone (Samsung galaxy y duos, Android 2.3.6).
My data acess always oscillates between 2g and 3g, there is other way to force connection only at 3g ?
Thank you guys

Seriously!?
Have you tried to see each option of the app?
I'm gonna try to help you: open the app, there's a menu. The first option should be "Phone Information", tap that.
So you have a lot of information about the radio, your chip, phone number, your provider, cellphone network and more...
Look for the option like "Set prefered network type" (or something like that. I'm trying to imagine how it's written in English, once here I use it in portuguese).
That option is a combobox with a lot of other options to choose. Always use:
"GSM only" (forces to use 2G, saves battery, you can also use that from Android Config Menu)
"WCDMA only" (forces to use 3G, speed up connection, but drains battery)
And "WCDMA prefered" (the phone always try to connect to 3G, but when it's not possible, it gets 2G).
The default option should be "GSM auto (PRL)". Similar to WCDMA prefered, but read this the see difference:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6591742&postcount=2
Be very careful with the other options. CDMA is very different from WCDMA.
CDMA is a different 2G modulation and it's not compatible with GSM neither Moto G.
EvDO is used only in some countries and providers, google to learn about it.
And LTE is 4G connection. I don't know if Moto G radio support that.
Remember: try it in you own risk! I'm not responsable for any connection problems you get. And try not to change nor tap any other option in that menu.
I'm using this app here with any trouble.
Ok, I see this menu, I select my network preferred type but nothing happens...
Am I supposed to do something after select the network type I want?
I mean, the Phone is still changing to 2g...
I'm so frustrated with not being able to force wcdma =/

My G isn't rooted or modified in any way, out of box state with few 3rd party apps.
Maybe is related to APN?
Network mode
HI Friends,
I like to use network preferred mode AUTO (3g/2g),
but from mobile network -> network mode there are only
two option that we can select either "2G" or "3G".
Some days back at first time when I opend this menu
neither of "2G" or "3G" was selected so It was working fine
with by defualt in auto mode.
But once I have selected this option now It is not possible to unselect both
2G as well as 3G and put phone back to auto network select mode.
Can anybody has work around for this.
I tried "Network" app as suggested but not useful for me.

In Settings > Apps you can reset app preferences which deselects 2g and 3g, but not sure it makes any difference. You lose any preferences you set for apps...
Thank You

Question 2G on A13

Can anyone who has already upgraded a Pixel 6a to A13 tell me if the "Allow 2G" option is still available in Settings-->Networks-->SIMs ?
Some people on twitter are saying that they cannot set 2G as a "preferred" network anymore, not sure what it implies.
The option is still here yes. However, you can't set 2G as the preferred network type.
Try this..
Open Dialer
type :- *#*#4636#*#*
Click on Phone info
Select Preferred Network type & Scroll Down & select "GSM Only"
Thank you guys.
Current situation is bizarre for me. I need 2G working for voice only. My carrier is switching 3G off, and I cannot have VoLTE working (despite the corresponding option being enabled and carrier saying that it should work). Currently, when I make a phone call, the 4G data connection gets disabled and voice travels over 3G or 2G. When the phone call is over, 4G data connection gets back on. Since 3G is being switched off, if 2G suddenly became totally unavailable, I simply couldn't make phone calls anymore.

Well, this is a Pixel 6a thread so not sure if the 4a had other changes. You might check on that forum instead/as well.

Very interesting....I just did a full wipe, clean flash to A13. Nothing special and I changed nothing.

Any chance of automating this with tasker?
I used "Toggle Network Type" app on earlier android, but not it can't set 2G as preferred type anymore.
Edit: actually it was Automate app that I used, but neither it nor Toggle network type work.
Not sure if you have tried enabling this option in the SIM settings (something to do with the Tensor Security settings as Google deem 2G to be less secure.

I didn't, because I don't have it. I'm actually on a different phone and rom, and just trying to find a workaround, this is the closest thread to my problem that I found on xda. I'm using Samsung S8, and this rom: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-13-crdroid-android-9-x-for-samsung-galaxy-s8-s8-n8.4516883/
