----Announcement----
Ok, so first the disappointing news, of course as soon as I started planning this application I got swamped by schoolwork and regular work, so there is actually very little done on the project. I still have a lot to learn about Android development itself. So I wholeheartedly apologize if I got anyone's hopes up, etc. I got in way too far over my head and while I don't plan on not doing this it is certainly not going to be done anytime soon. This summer I plan on at least getting some alpha stuff working but then in the fall I'll be starting my first year at the University of Guelph for Software Engineering so we'll see how much I get done. Again I'm deeply sorry if I mislead anyone in my abilities, or the progress of this application
----Overview----
Hey all, I don't know how many of you know about the amazing Windows media player known as MediaMonkey or the variety of features it has (Auto-organize, Tag from web, DLNA support, etc) but thats besides the point. I feel that the one thing this amazing program lacks is a mobile app to go along with it, so with the release of MM4 looming (You can grab the beta here) I've decided that I will develop just such an app. Official support has been given to this project by the MediaMonkey developers and more than enough people have expressed interest in this project so I'm going ahead and starting development! Right now only support for music is planned though video may come eventually as well!
----Planned Features----
MM.db sync and merge
Non-native codec support (Ogg, Flac, Ape)
Basic library managment (Tag with Amazon.com search, media scanner to load non-native codecs)
DLNA control point for MM4
DLNA renderer for MM4
Lockscreen widget with swipe controls
Companion MM4 plugin to handle syncing
Skin support

I for one would be interested. For those who don't know MM, its a program similar to itunes but with way better usability. It syncs great with ipods too!
MM is the best !!
+1 for me too
+1 for mediamonkey. It's my media player of choice
Well looks like theres definitely some interest here (and on the MediaMonkey forums) and I have support from Peke one of MediaMonkey's developers so this is going ahead. Though I will say development might be a little slow, I have Java experience but I'm still learning programming in general and I've never worked with the Android SDK not to mention I've got school however I'll try to get this up and running asap
Definately, Wish Mediamonkey would work on my mac
Don't know how you can live without it lol specially auto-organize with the file monitor (love dropping an album of unorganized songs into my music folder and suddenly its in my proper folder structure with the right filenames)

Oh also the project basically means that if I can pull it off correctly android users will finally get proper sync support without having to fiddle with the USB_MassStorage.DLL anymore

Does it work on Android 1.6?
No sorry, only 2.0+ versions...
is this app in the market?
cant seem to find it
For some reason it seems it only can be downloaded from warez sites atm but since it's a beta I don't know if it would be against the rules to post it here???
I'm absolutely loving this app. Thanks OP!
I've been using it for a while and its great!! If this is beta I cant imagine how good the final will be. I bet you browse the same site as me

These are a few gripes I have with the app, the first one being the most important:
When going through the library of artists, once you pick an artist you are taken to all songs by the artist and not to a list of the albums by the artist. Sometimes when pressing the back button, the app closes to the homescreen instead of showing the previous screen. If you're playing a song and are browsing your playlist, album list, etc. there's no quick way to return to the player screen that shows the current song that's playing.

I agree, that's a biggie.
I just upload a video of the app to youtube. It is my first video so dont expect pro stuff Just a video of fingering around with PowerAmp
Thanks for the great video, I learnt a few new things from it
This is definitely the best audio player I've seen on any mobile device, PERIOD!
this is really nice! TFS!
Although the widget could be better..and the home screen of the app could be made simpler but overall this is nice...
definitely nice to have SD folder view!
I winder how it would par with MixZing
Trying it out right now so far loving it good looking out great media player

I picked this up and I really like it so far. The ui is great even though there are a few oddities still. When selecting an mp3 from Astro it goes to the player but it doesn't play the file I just selected...the player comes up with the last song that was being played. Still messing with it though and it looks great so far.
i think one feature that would make this a killer music player... that if its possible to restrict musics off one folder (eg. "Music") in the root of SD... this way i dont have to listen to machine gun and other android game sound fx on my media player... veryyy annoying..!!!!

Wow this is freaking awesome. if this is java, will it work on like your windows mobile too? then you can support 2 formats at once?
Another small question. Slacker will become on-demand soon. Will you take a dive into there app side and compete and see if you can do the same as you do here with Grooveshark? I never seen anyone make a Slacker app. What id give is for a Windows Mobile one that actually works that shows the whole screen.
SciLor! Oh man when I saw your post I was so stoked. Welcome to Android development Any chance of a DL'er as in WM?

The "official" Grooveshark app requires you to be a "VIP" member to use it, whereas scilor's app does not .
It is free and may have different features.
Any news on an updated release?

Maybe that guy is referring to the fact that grooveshark frowns upon 3rd praty apps so you might as well just get a hacked official app if you are gonna get something frowned upon. That being said,
This is freaking exciting. The only reason I hesitated moving from winmo to android was because of scilors apps. For now I have a vip membership but i will definitely be keeping a test version of this on my phone as well. I wish I had a spare android device to send him.
Thank you for the "device" , but I managed to get Android working on my HD2.
Which Apps are you exactly missing on Android?
Looking at your list grooveshark dler would be nice.
I'm definitely looking forward to a downloader on Android. Keep up the good work!

Hey guys ,
As most of you know , I work with the WP7 Android group . We are a group dedicated to bringing the WP7 ui to Android . I am hoping mods do not shut me down for *advertising* , but this is the only way we can do it and have it still be beneficial to us . This is 100% free , and should not be in violation of any XDA policies . If I am mistaken mods , let me know how i can fix it before locking me down .
A HUGE thank you goes out to everyone that took place in our promotion , but after 500 emails in just over 24hrs ... its time to go to the market .
Search WP7Lock .

I understand that you guys want to make money and are working very hard and I appreciate that but some people (myself included) don't have any convenient way of buying things online. No credit or debit card, no PayPal, no Google checkout, etc.
I think it would help to release some of your more basic things like the lockscreen and contacts and stuff for free, full-featured, then release the more complicated stuff like launcher and music player for a price. It would bump your sales and encourage people to try your stuff more if we didn't have to jump through hoops to get a half-working version of it.
as in, you should post the apk without any features disabled on here. Easy to get and then it will attract more people than making them go sign up for something and take screenshots and emails and whatnot and still only get part of the app.
Sent from my CM7 SCH-i500
My thoughts are similar; your project is unique (think about it, there is literally no other wp7 lockscreen for android that's been widely distributed before, same with most of the rest of your apps). If you were to release the full version for free, it would undoubtedly get more downloads, generate some goodwill and get your project coverage on sites like engadget, gizmodo, droid life, etc. through user submitted tips. You wouldn't need to skew peoples incentive to send their thoughts to engadget about the project to get this stripped down and un-updatable version because a free fully featured release would create a bigger buzz, and leave both sides in a better situation.

I understand your guys thoughts about the market. And its coming. Our current purchase system is chaos, and I recognize that. When this first started, we didn't have devs in the us that Google aloud to post in the market. Its not because we didn't want to. Now that we can, we are. Its just taking extra time. This lock will be free in the market as well as the full version. We just wanted to try this for about a week. Thanks for the kind feedback though. Were working very hard.

+ .apk only 61kB and once installed the app weighs only 157kB!
- 960x800 wallpaper gets crammed into 480x800 and it looks silly. Please make it so it uses the center of the wallpaper.
- if you wake the screen right after turning if off it kind of lags and shows half of the homescreen before the lockscreen falls down to it's place. Waiting 5 seconds before waking it again gives no issues at all. Purely cosmetic though.
I would easily pay 1-2€ for this if the issues are fixed in the paid version, and judging by the largely grayed out settings panel, there will be a lot of customization options available.
Still waiting for the apk! :S

The Note's screen is large enough that in landscape, split in half, each side is still larger than many phone screens I've used before, including smart phones. I'd really like to be able to do split screen multitasking. Has anyone made something like this yet? Sure, the resolution of each half would be a little weird at 800x640, but doesn't ICS alleviate resolution issues? I'd love to be able to use each side as a separate monitor.
If not, perhaps it could be split into two 800x480 screens with a strip of controls in the center. Or split into 800x800 and 800x480. Should be easy to adapt graphics for 800x800.
This is something I'd really like, so if it's not done already, someone please do it! Should I repost this in development? It may be more involved than just creating an app.
... very good question
I think the easiest solution is using a remote log in app with your computer.
The Note's screen in half equals to two 3.62" of 640x800 screens! That's 2 iPhone screens and more!
I'm sure the text/icons will be way more readable/viewable that the "mock-up" below..

is there any app which do that...?
This is not trivial as it may sound on Android.
According to Android concepts, there may only be one Activity* in the foreground.
Other pop ups and menus are not full blown activities. Android manages all the Activities.
Activities that are not in the foreground are closed to free memory up.
The only way I can see without modifying android is to find some way the widgetify an android activity so it is treated as a widget. This way you can place two apps as widgets next to each other and even resize them as you like.
* An android activity is a java class extending the Activity class, managed by android window manager.

Have you also tried the same developers calculator named AirCalc.
It works on the same principle and is great when you need a calculator with another App ~ i.e. EasyMoney & AirCalc.
I think better than splitting the screen into 2 would be if we can push the output via MHL to a screen and move an app there, how one can do on a PC with 2 monitors.
So watch a movie on the TV/monitor and text or use the phone on its native display.
Onskreen Cornerstone makes three windows for multitasking. It currently only works on Motorola Xoom. But it is open source and has to be incorporated into ROM. I hope some clever developer can adapt this for GNote*. Check out

What do you mean by scientific? Its quite simple: sin, cos, exp, sqrt among others.
Good looking out on Stick It! Once my tab charges back up (it ran all the way out of juice for the first time ever and if I weren't so relieved it didn't have issues like others who were unable to power theirs back on, I'd probably be pissed) I'll have at it.
Can't wait..
If this code is available now..
It will push most if not all of the utility apps into this mode..
Been waiting with baited breath for the other guys (onskreen) to get their system out of beta..
But if this coding is with us already and being used I would say its going to devalue their product somewhat..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17908174
just bought, seems like it has potential if some more development catches on. the calculator itself is handy for improving how i work with spreadsheets on the tf. I really hope something like that can be an option along with widgets! would only recommend if you want to support developer or fiddle with the calculator at this point.
