This is the future IMO.
"Tablets" should just be an LCD touchscreen with no "guts" and you just plug your smartphone into it. Similar to the way the Atrix works with the keyboard dock (but with Android not desktop Linux). Except here, you don't need a "dock" just a monitor with an HDMI port and any bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
I think this really is the future. If I have a smartphone with a dual core processor, lots of RAM, flash storage, the Android OS, and a 3G/4G/WiFi connection, why do I need to repeat all that in the tablet? Just make the tablet an empty touchscreen and use the processing power, OS, and connectivity of the phone to run it.

I would really like to see this on the G2x

What's the size of this thing? Can you actually type on it?
that's so small. I don't see the practicality of this thing. thanks for sharing though
Looks great. Have you tried it with emulators? Any lag?

Question are you on stock or custom firmware ? I bought the same keyboard a few weeks ago and it wouldn't run on my g2x but I was running stock.
Runs with all my Emulators and im on CM7 but the buttons are soft style so you can type very fast its a great must have tool and there is zero lag on anything you can even shut the screen on and off with one button

got mine for like 15$ from amazon a couple months ago, it works on stock and custom roms on my Vibrant, haven't tried my g2x though
If 15 dollars I would get that keyboard, but while searching youtube for some unboxings and reviews I found this gem.

The mini keyboard just arrived.
I can pair it but it says its not connected.
Anyone else encounter this?
I do not have much experience with Bluetooth devices.
My question would be why?? Seems like a novelty at best.
Might as well lug around a netbook/laptop if you're going to be lugging around a keyboard. That would get old in a hurry away from your office/home... and of course, 95% of people are using a PC when not mobile. Kinda defeats the purpose of a candy bar device.....to do away with an external keyboard
Well, for one, check out the link a few post up. Its a mini keyboard, about the same size of the phone its self.
Also, I am not totally sure on why it matters, I just want to get it working.
Personally, I wanted it for emulators, I tend to prefer Not a physical keyboard when playing games. I very much enjoy the extra space in the keys as well as the tack tile feedback it provides.

what's there to kid about. many phones can connect to the wii mote. search the market. there are a few app that accomplish syncing a wiimote to android. unfortunately the wii mote is not compatible with the Samsung bt3.0 stack. cm7 is bt2.1 and fixes that problem.

umm wii mote + hdmi+ smartphone + sega emulator = portable entertainment and a way to make friends envious. it is a common request actually and its great for travel and parties (my friends are geeks-hence me frequently visiting a cell phone forum) and it is great especially if you have kids or a nephew (I have 2 nephews)
This sounds awesome. Any other non-conventional devices connect to the phone?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
well the wii mote doesn't work on the infuse(works on most other androids) , but you can use a standard mouse and keyboard to game and navigate the ui. there are some game controlers that work but I can't remember which ones. search the sgs sections if you are interested.
Awesome, keyboard/mouse would come in handy considering these come with HDMI adapters, tomorrow will be a fun day. Lol

Anyone know of a way to change the Bluetooth stack manually because I had it working on cm7 captivate........
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
CM7 uses "googles bluetooth stack which is why it works. This might point someone in the right direction as I have no idea on how to change it.
On all non AOSP kernels the "Bluez" Stack has to be cooked into it. It's tougher than..., well I don't want to mention it.... and easier done with CM which is based off of AOSP.
Same with Sense roms as well, which is why I had such a hard time bouncing between AOSP and sense roms when I had my N1.....
Plus with our HDMI output, wouldn't it be just as easy to use the onscreen buttons on the phone even though there will be an overlay on the main screen...?
Well I got it to connect to my Infuse (and Touchpad). All the keystrokes are detected. Only problem is that they don't translate in N64oid or Tiger Snes--as if they aren't working.
Anybody find a workaround?

Most emus with external controller support have the option to disable the controller overlay. Doesn't do you any good to not have the overlay without external input though, but I have tested this via HDMI output on the *-oid emus

I've seen some demand for this, but I don't understand it. I can pretty much type 50 WPM on a computer keyboard. Typing code on a phone would be a pain IMO Now, if you could use a portable USB or Bluetooth keyboard, count me in!!
The closest I can get is my Asus Eee netbook, my Droid X and a USB cable. It's very portable, Eclipse or Intellij runs fast enough. Just don't run emulator!!! LOL

This would be handy for developing on a tablet that is for sure. A good start would be a Android Java friendly code editor, at least you could tinker with the code and then try it out when you are back on a complier.
I imagine with a bit of scripting, there could be a way to remotely use a pc with Eclipse running to receive altered files, compile and return the apk.

iControlPad, the greatest, and most essential phone accessory

Though the product title might suggest a bladder control product for the elderly, the iControlPad is one amazing gamepad!
I received my iControlPad from the UK yesterday. It was everything I hoped it could be. It works beautifully with the emulators I had already on the my phone.
Connected pretty easily with the Bluez IME app installed and only took a few seconds to configure key mappings in each emulator.
I put a video up showing how the Continuum mounts with the universal bracket and how it looks in action!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWRhYaTzIzE
That is awesome! How does it actually connect to the phone so that the controller works? I dont see it plugged in anywhere.
Nice... how much does that thing go for?
And what about battery life?
Also, does it work with all emulators?
I just got my first one yesterday, so I'm new to the emulator thing. Seems pretty cool though!
Especially for downtime for me at work and basically just anytime for my kids....

It works beautifully with all the emulators I've tried.
It has a lithium-ion battery....I haven't really played extensively on it but the battery hasn't been an issue whenever I've used it.
It connects to the phone via bluetooth.
There is an app called Bluez IME that treats the iControlPad as an external keyboard if you will, so that any game that allows for keyboard controls can use the iControlPad.
The problem I've found so far, is I haven't been able to use the analog nubs as true analog controls. The Bluez IME app doesn't have analog support for the iControlPad yet....and I haven't spent a lot of time looking for ways to use the analog nubs in any games.
with shipping, it was $89.
yeah, that's rough.....but the shipping was about $25.

I use NESOID, SNES9x EX, and N64OID. I used to use SNESOID but there are some graphic issues I noticed in some games that aren't there in SNES9x EX.
Unfortunately, at the moment, N64OID doesn't rotate either way, which forces you to mount the ICP one way.....and that happens to be the way I'd prefer not to mount it.

Emulators Thread

You know you've wanted to play some games on an emulator on your phone. Old classics from the NES/SNES/GameBoy era.
Here's what I've tried so far (all under CM7):
Using my wiimote + nunchuck:
Download BluezIME-v1.14-Wiimote.apk (or the latest version that ends with Wiimote) from http://code.google.com/p/android-bluez-ime/downloads/list
Install it, and select Bluez IME as your input method. (Settings > Language and Keyboard)
Put your Wiimote into discoverable mode by pressing and holding 1 + 2 until the 4 indicator lights start flashing
After a few moments, BluezIME will recognize your Wiimote and list it
Select the Wiimote
Now you can use your Wiimote as a virtual keyboard!
Go into your emulator and select keyboard as input method, and configure the keys to your liking.
So far I've only tried SNESDroid as an emulator, but this should work with ANYTHING that accepts keyboard input, including your SMS app, web browser, etc. It's mapping your Wiimote keys to keys on a virtual keyboard on your phone.
Enjoy!
I'm big on emulators. I actually have quite the collection of real Sega, NES, and SNES cartridges. I wish VB supported the bluetooth drivers needed to use controller connectivity. I love having SNESDroid. I use my PS3 controller as an SNES controller for my emulator on my laptop. With CM9 about to drop, I will definately be making the switch, and hopefully CM9 will support the bluetooth drivers needed.
I would love to play someone in some Killer Instinct, or something else if they want to play on a PC emulator. All you need is ZSNES v1.42, the ROM, and Hamachi. Works perfect. I have a killer instinct tourney server on Hamachi.

As for emulating on phones, The app fb recommended doesn't have Sixaxis support yet, so I use Sixaxis Controller app. On the ICS roms, when you use that app, it makes the emulator a little laggy at times, like during high combos on KI.
wicked4u2c has posted a video on how to set up emulators on Android devices. He covers downloading the emulators/games, setting up wireless controllers, and connecting your device to your TV. If you get the chance, watch some more of his videos, they're excellent and cover many different Android related topics!
Also, while the free emulators are decent enough, I personally use Robert Broglia's emulators. They do cost a few bucks for each one, but his emulators are extremely accurate and very customizable. The ones I use (MD.emu, NES,emu, GBA.emu) run great on the Galaxy S 4G with only minor slowdowns here and there.

bml is the opposite. Can't win.
Ultragen has tv out with no green bar in landscape. It seemed to be a pretty solid rom too. I just like GB better. Seems to be snappier for me. My quad scores are double on GB also. I think this phonejoy thing is gonna be the best bet for our phones on GB. However, the website seems to be out of stock.
