If you think you have good memory, come in. - T-Mobile LG G2x

Do you still remember how long it takes for cyanogen to release after Nexus One release or Nexus S or G2?
Then we can kinda predict when will cyanogen mod for G2X will be out.

development on a nexus s or 1 has NOTHING to do with how fast it will be out for the G2x or a ETA......( something could go wrong)
im gonna take a guess and say end of the weekend... maybe next week(im a optimist )

Im guessing 2-3 days out

With the G2x source code posted by LG we should be getting nightlies soon, once they get all the hardware working

well, get the result of nexus one, nexus s, G2 and mytouch. Then add them up divide by 4, get the average? or use the Max. I mean it could be somehow close right?

Well for the Nexus S or G2 did Cyanogen have them himself? I think since he has the phone and will personally be working on it that we will see it quicker than other devices
We shall see. He already has it booted although not functioning 100%

you should tweet him and check his response.

I remember the Nexus One being ridiculously fast. I think CM6 (or was it 5 at the time?) was running on it before the device was even released to the public at large.
Let's not forget that the Nexus One was COMPLETELY unlocked and open from the start, and didn't have any manufacturer garbage to deal with, or new drivers for things like Tegra to worry about.

I'm hoping he get's it running before my G2x gets delivered so I can flash it out of the box

Really though, do we need more threads about when cm7 is coming? Not being an ass, just think we should hold on and it'll be out soon. I'm excited about out too but really...

So long Captivate, it was nice...

My new Nexus S i9020A showed up yesterday.
I've mostly been bouncing between Serendipity and continuum on the 2.3 roms, and was a serendipity user on the 2.2.
Upon receiving my stock Nexus S running 2.3.3, it was already faster and "smoother" than any 2.2 or 2.3 rom i've ever run on my cappy.
Unlocking was a simple process taking all of about 30 seconds. Rooting was just as easy. I'm now running ZuluGen with zero problems whatsoever.
Things just work, no excuses.
The dev's - particularly designgears, mikeymike01, atinm and xcaliburinhand - do amazing work, but its clearly not enough when they aren't given all the working, buildable source - like the Nexus S teams are given.
At any rate - it was nice participating and trying to make something of what is in a lot of ways - a broken phone from Samsung.
The Nexus S is fat
noone cares that you got a new phone unless you're a ROM developer. Otherwise you're just saying "I GOTS TEH BETTER PHONE THEN JOO!!!"
U should've posted this in the nexus s forum.c ya
Kind of a sidegrade rather than an upgrade considering its essentially the same hardware. Should have held out for a dual core nexus.

Yup, I would have ordered an sgs II from europe instead of the nexus. Or like others are saying wait for the next nexus which is rumored to be an LG.

I can't think of a single LG product which has actually been good. It's usually the same thing as everyone else, or below the level.
The nexus S is basically any galaxy S with faster updates, which does not even matter if you run Custom Roms. Sure you will see a slight increase in speed, seeing as Google built 2.3 for the Nexus S first off, but I would not justify buying it, especially starting with a cappy.

I think they'll get the camera back in Gingerbread and do some other tweaks, but they're never going to announce it so they don't have to deal with thousands of people asking them "when?" every day of the week. It'll just pop up one day and that'll probably be the last official update the G2x receives. Ice Cream Sandwhich? Yeah right .

Everything in this statement is true, unfortunately. Even though my G2x is running great, i still feel we got played. Especially the whole "yeah, its got the AT&T 3G frequencies false advertising debacle".
I agree on many fronts. But I still remain hopeful that LG will release the source code for their kernel within the next few weeks, and the ultra-talented devs can start optimizing that code for better battery life, less reboots, etc.
We already have some pretty sweet roms and themes coming out for 2.3.3. It would seem that if we could get some customized kernels for it, we'd be in business. Snappier interface due to swapping, working a2dp, hdmi, etc...even might have the LG cam working without bugs soon.
I wouldn't go crazy freaking out at this point. However, I will concede that T-Mobile and LG did NOT live up to even the slightest expectations we placed on them. We would be lost without these awesome devs.
So keep that in mind, and support their work and/or keep clicking thanks.

So I guess those of us that haven't rooted are considering it even more so now? I've had an Android device (never rooted) since I pre-ordered my G1 and i've never been disappointed. Until I got the G2X. The phone is very nice, but it has had many more problems than my Nexus One. When upgrading to this, I thought to myself.. look at the specs.. it CAN'T be anything but much better. I don't hate the G2X and i've been lucky to not have as many problems as some of you, but problems are problems regardless. Whether it's a few or 100.
Its in the 5th paragraph down, (2 down from the video).
The only thing is, this phone was launched before this announcement.
But not much before, so, who knows. I think the g2x was around apr 15, and this announcement was a month later.
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/android-momentum-mobile-and-more-at.html
And personally, I was aware of this and counted on it when I bought my g2x. Otherwise I would have bought a nexus.
Guys even tho the build number on the gb kernel is the same as froyos how much different do u think it is? Do u actually think they tweaked it enough to call it a different kernel? (Gb)
Well like I stated before my g2x has been good since day one launch day ......I just got an exchange cuz I had a scuff on the side of it so I told a Rep about it and they send me a new one wich I didn't want cuz I didn't wana get stuck with a dud phone but it came in with gb already in it so I nandroid restore from my other phone to try it out and day and a half later its been flawless so far.... so looks like I'm keeping it but to b honest I had worst experience with the vibrant wich took forever for 2.1 update and touchwiz was garbage ....right now I'm waiting on galaxy s2 but ima wait a month after cuz of my bad experience with samsuck in the past ..........LG has been good to me in my g2x experience but I have read so mAny people with bad experiences with g2x so I completely understand the frustration by people but I personally dont feel screwed cuz we got a update actually fast compare to other devices ......there's been a lot of phones that barely got it now and been out way before than g2x .....so me personally I don't feel screwed at all I love my g2x i also got a sensation but I gave it to my wife after using it for a day wich she freaking loves ......different strokes for different folks I guess LOL...
.....but next I got my eyes on the galaxy s2 (Hercules).........

I was in the same boat as you, in fact I still have my Nexus One stock and unrooted, but this phone was such a pain and the support so worthless I said why not. I can't tell you what a good decision that was. ROMs like Weapon 2.1 have turned my once POS phone into probably the coolest piece of tech I've ever owned

Was switching to nexus s 4g bad choice?

I came from a mytouch 4g where yu can expect some kind of new ROM or update just about everyday or every other day Idk its just kind of boring in this forum I guess...

the absolute right choice in my opinion. I love this phone, best phone i have ever owned.
I've had this phone for two weeks and I love it. Couldn't have made a better choice. And there are new roms to flash every couple of days you just have to look.

Exactly! Would you rather wait to get an OS upgrade to a OS version that's already a year old; or, be on the latest with no updates coming?
You want new and exciting things on your phone. Root and start flashing some custom things. That'll keep you occupied. There are always new things coming out in the CM7 nightlies.
I just got my nexus a week ago & I'm happy all you really need is CM7 & MIUI with those 2 roms you can change themes like a super model changes clothes!!! Lol

It's a pure Google phone so yes, you don't have 5,342 different ROMs trying to create a "pure" Android experience.
Nexus has all you need.
Pure Android by default and it's awesome even out of the box
CM7 Official builds
CM7 Kang Builds
MIUI Official builds
Anything else is pure bonus.

Ditto. And to take it a step further, I did creep into these forums before I upgraded. I noticed it seemed a little slower, but took the leap.
I rooted the first day I got the phone, unrooted the next. I simply don't see the need now to root. I get updated asap, my battery lasts about 16 hours on average, and I have a **** ton of space on the phone.
On the EVO, I as always flashing an AOSP rom cause I wanted more free space, then going back to Sense, because I missed the UI. Now I feel like I can just have a phone for the time being, and not worry about flashing new roms for the next best thing.
Not a bad phone but the radio seems a bit week.
Maybe it's just in the Chicagoland area but reception sucks.
Sometimes I'm on 1x.
I barely get to use 4g.
Still have my upgrade available.
Might try something new just to see if it's the phone.
Anyone interested in purchasing my Nexus S 4g?

Yes that's probably true. CM9 better be good...
LOL, LG will never touch this device ever again, I will bet actual money on that. CM9, however, is almost a sure thing. Frankly, I consider that better than the alternative.
I am sure that it will happen and I think that those of you who say LG will never touch this device are right as well. I could be wrong thought maybe LG will wake up and fix the device. HAHA
LG has a history of not updating devices. Like I have said before other 2X devices are still on Froyo. I asked girl at LG store in Bangkok when the device will get update to Gingerbread and she said "it is not being updated." So be thankful you got any Gingerbread at all, and don't count on ICS or you will be sure to be disappointed later.

That just got me excited.
Hopefully they don't burst the bubble and make us wait into the new year.
And honestly, I don't see why Google wouldn't release ICS. I mean I understand they're waiting for the Nexus to ship, so that people will buy it for ICS. But then their goal is to have all phones updated to the newest OS. By making their OS compatible with all hardware, and releasing the source code, they don't have to do any work while ROM developers make Google's dream come true.
This is the great thing about open sourcing. Love it!
HELL YAH! Can't wait for CM9!
They're probably going to release the source the day the Galaxy goes on sale.

Android 5 ROM

Hello all,
I'm an avid android user, and I recently bumped my g3. Has anyone tried.(or is trying) to make a stock Android 5 ROM?
thanks everyone!!
Answered on many threads already.
No lollipop roms are available atm. Even if there was, we wouldn't be able to flash since the bump site is not up and running yet. We can only flash stock images right now.
Be patient. Soon enough, once it's released on another variant, I'm sure someone will try and port it over. (Especially since AT&T probably won't see an official update till well in to next year)
Enjoy the phone!

I think development is going to suck on g3, I'm not being negative but it seems like the g3 is just a pain in the butt. We have to wait for lg to see what there plans are then we have to wait for the devs to look at what lg has patch and see if they need to exploit again and if it will be possible. It seems like tmobile g3 should have more roms but its pretty quite there and a lot of people are already leaving the g3 for other phones like the nexus 6. Its going to suck if lg patched bump exploit and really puts a hold on development. I will wait a month if nothing im moving on. Im very grateful for all the devs work but irritated at lg for all this bootloader crap.

Development will be slow for sure compared to past phones. This has been happening more and more every year where the carriers are locking things down even more tightly.
I understand your frustration, but for me this is one of those phones that i can say is just fine using a rooted stock with only a few tweaks. (The others in that category for me are the G2 and the HTC one) Other phones I've had really were just better with something like cm/aokp/etc. (And that's a bunch of phones for me since it seems I get a new phone every six months)
I don't blame the devs for going elsewhere and I know you are not either. Devs gotta dev lol.
But I wouldn't give up just yet. Some interesting things will be coming from some devs very soon that may make you enjoy your phone, even while still on rooted stock. (I've said to much haha [emoji106] [emoji106] [emoji106] [emoji106] )
