[APP][2.1+] BITS Widget - Need beta testers - Android Apps and Games

2011 08 19 EDIT: I'm starting a new round of testing for new weather forecast bits.
2011 08 11 EDIT: I've published a new General Release to the Android Market that includes all of the changes in the recent betas. Thanks to everyone who helped in testing.
2011 08 05 EDIT: The latest beta includes bits for battery temperature (F & C) and battery voltage (mV). It also includes a dedicated bit for shortcuts.
2011 07 06 EDIT: The latest beta can turn on or off any widget size from 1x1 to 4x4.
2011 07 01 EDIT: The latest beta can use any graphic from the sd card as a bit.
2011 06 26 EDIT: The latest beta version includes the ability to launch any shortcut from any bit. We need help testing this new feature.
2011 06 15 EDIT: The latest beta version includes integration with Tasker. We sure could use some help testing this new feature.
EDIT: BITS Widget is now version 1.0 and is available in the Android Market.
---Original Post---
I've been working on a widget for several months and I'm just about ready to show it to the world, but I want to make sure it's ready.
I've been running the widget on four different phones. The widget runs perfectly on all but one. On that one, it crashes (force close) about once a day at random times and I've been unable to track down the problem. I'm hoping to get the widget running on some different hardware and software combinations to see if a pattern emerges.
If you're interested in giving a hand, I would appreciate some help.
The name of the widget is BITS, which stands for Bits Is The Stuff.
BITS is a home screen widget with a WYSIWYG editor that allows the user to add, remove and arrange bits of information on the widget face.
Each bit can be configured to launch a shortcut when it is touched on the widget face.
Currently the widget can show the following bits of information:
Date
Time
Location (from GPS or locked to specific one)
Moon Phase (graphic)
Sun or Moon Phase (graphic, sun during daylight, moon phase at night)
Sun or Moon Phase with Weather (same as above with weather conditions superimposed)
Temperature (in C° or F°)
Cloud cover (text description)
Weather conditions (text description)
Humidity
Air Pressure
Wind Speed (kt)
Wind Speed (mph)
Wind Direction (deg)
Wind Direction (cardinal)
Weather Station
Sunrise (time at location)
Sunset (time at location)
Next Alarm
Battery Level (percentage)
Battery Charging (“charging” or “”)
Battery Temperature (in C° or F°)
Battery Voltage (mV)
Available RAM
Available file space
Available SD Card space
Rectangle
Rounded Rectangle
Last Weather Download (time and date)
Last Weather Observation(at the weather station, time and date)
Tasker Variable
Any graphic from SD Card
Shortcuts
Screen Shots
Video Demo

It seems to work on my Inspire 4G, but the screen that allows you to choose the content doesn't display any text until you select the item. Makes it hard to configure and set up.

Fixed
What a way to make a bad first impression.
I made a typo in my obfuscation script (which I don't use while programming and debugging) and didn't test the published version before I posted.
I'm so sorry.
If I haven't completely lost your confidence already, please try one more time with version 0.55 β or greater.

Thanks so much for helping out. I appreciate it.
When you first go into the configuration, does the lower half of the screen show any text at all? It should start with, "Touch a bit to select it and ..."
If you are able to, would you mind posting a screen shot of what it looks like before you select an item?
Thank you,

Interesting! I would mostly use the weather info. Slightly larger position controls would make life easier for smaller screens or larger fingers. Gives a tinkerer plenty of tinkering material without risk damaging phone.

I agree. I'll play around with the layout controls. What do you think about having the position and anchor controls on separate tabs?

Version 0.56 Posted
Version 0.56 is now available. It fixes two bugs:
[FIX] black text on black background on "Add a Bit" listview
[FIX] Force Close when drawing moon
There is now a change log available.

Please tell me which version you have.
You can find the version number on the "about screen" which is available by hitting the menu button on either the configuration screen on the main program screen.
You can get into the configuration screen by tapping in the upper left corner of the widget. You can get to the main program screen by running the main program from the apps drawer.
Thank you for your help. I appreciate it.

[APP][16/12] BattStatt, the literal battery meter widget. Now with custom fonts.

Hi,
It's about time I made one of these threads for my widget BattStatt Free and BattStatt Pro.
Many of you know what BattStatt is already, but for those of you that don't:
BattStatt is a home screen widget, presenting the current battery level of you Android device in text. So if you have 54% battery it will display "Fifty four percent".
It comes in a free and a paid (pro) version.
I have entered BattStatt into the Swedish Application Developers Contest in hope of winning a trip to Google I/O 2011 or a MacBook Pro, please vote for me BattStatt on SADC (in swedish)
BattStatt Free on AppBrain
BattStatt Pro on AppBrain
BattStatt Free includes:
- Four widget sizes: large 4x1, medium 2x1, small 1x1 and small with numbers 1x1
- Some color support for text (a pre-set list of colors)
- Available in English or Swedish.
BattStatt Pro, however, contains loads more:
- Three widget sizes: Same as above but not the small with numbers, this is an option for all sizes now.
- Custom fonts!
- Text shadow.
- Custom color, pick any color you want for all of the different words.
- Custom font sizes.
- More languages: Danish, Dutch, German, English, French, Norwegian, Spanish and Swedish.
- Widget tap options, choose from a list of things to happen when pressing a widget.
TODO list for next version of BattStatt:
- Show the values of the color picker while adjusting them
- Being able to manually set the color values, not just by sliding the bars
- Custom shadow options
- More options to the caps and boldify options for the action text.
- Open whatever you want when tapping the widget.
F.A.Q
Q: How can I use custom fonts?
A: By creating a folder in the root of your sdcard called .battstatt they will automatically be registered and appear in the font chooser in the configuration screen.
Q: Can you add language X?
A: Yes, if you can provide the information for me. What I need is the translation for: numbers 1-20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, Fully charged, Empty, Percent. And if your language have some special counting rules like are you using an "and" like in german or dutch? Do you say the number part before the ten part etc.

For some reason Samsung Galaxy S users running Froyo 2.2.1 have reported that BattStatt doesn't work. Unfortunately I can't do a proper debug since I don't have access to this device. Logs from users running this setup are more than welcome to send me their device log after removing/adding/removing etc. to see if anything goes wrong in there.

Will post/attach pertinent logcat data soon to help with Samsung Galaxy S on 2.2.1 problems!
Edit:
This is the only reference to battstat I found in the logcat after placing a 2x1 widget on an empty homescreen. Funny though, now isntead of LOADING I just have an invisible widget. lol.
Edit 2:
Here's the full logcat file attached. Weird thing is, when I rebooted and decided to test again, I still get invisible widgets but then logcat makes no reference to your app after I added one widget of every size..Just remove .txt extension of the .log file.

I have uploaded 1.0.6 with some fixes, dunno if they solve the probs for SGS 2.2.1 users, but hopefully.
Curious what font you were using because I wanted to do an icon for the traffic application on my phone and have it matching.
Loving the battstatt app.

Thanks for the fast fix-attempt update! I'm having market problems right now, but I 'll download and report back asap. I'm leaving the house soon and won't have internet access so that might be in a few hours time.
I hope the logcat I posted was able to help you with preparing a possible fix.
EDIT: 1.6 seems to be working! I've tried adding all three widget sizes and they're all visible now and update as they should. Will play around with settings but so far so good!
Thanks and good job!

Yes, SGS 2.2.1 users have been sending reports that it works. BattStatt Free will get the same fix today when I get home from work.
Both versions of BattStatt are updated just now:
Free version:
Should fix the SGS 2.2.1 issue
Crazy-old text alignment issue fixed
Pro version:
"Percent" string should now be hidden if battery is fully charged or empty
Hi!
I like this app a lot but it's only available in english and swedish.
I'm spanish so I made this evening my own translation to spanish, can you add it to your application?
The only thing that needs to be fixed is:
- Numbers in english: seventyone
- Number in spanish: setentaYuno and I see it like "setentauno" without Y
Thanks!
It seems like some users are still experiencing problems with BattStatt on SGS 2.2.1, so the hunt for a solution goes on.

Seems like BattStatt has gotten a "competitor": Battery Text Widget
And also, BattStatt Free is from today one of the apps in AppBrains Top10 list: Hot tools
Just gotta figure out what to do with it next to make it (even more ) awesome.
Anyone knows what happened to this app? I have updated my phone and it's removed from the Play Store.
Yeah dude. It's super mega abandoned since a couple of years ago! You can find it on github if you'd like to give it a try and make it work.
Why you removed the app from the Play Store? Any problem with Google?
PS: After christmas I'll try to work in an update based on the code in github

You know, the usual: too little time, got bored, need to update to be able to keep on Play, but didn't have the time or resources to do so, so it was removed.
I also completely stopped using Android and am no longer working with it.
So yeah.
Good luck dude/dudette!

Thank you for your feedback.
It uses the 24 hour setting from the system settings: settings / Date & Time / Use 24-hour format.
But I had some inconsistencies with this, so it might be wrong by default. When this setting has never been changed I cannot read a true/false status, but read a "null" value. When this happens I default to the am/pm format. A quick way around this is to go into the settings and tick the 24-hour tickbox and then untick it again.
The inconsistency is that on some phones the "null" defaults to am/pm format and on others to 24-hour format.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Ok, workaround worked for now
Hope you can make the widget "bigger"

That's great.
In order to investigate this inconsistency, could you provide me with some info?
What phone do you have and what Android version (and rom if any) do you have. Could you also tell me if the 24-hour tickbox was enabled by default or not?
Much appreciated.
In order to make it bigger, the animation will get bigger exponentially. This will eat away more memory so I am not 100% sure I can achieve this. I will have a look how far I can stretch it, but with the current size I felt comfortable it will run on most phones.
I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play (R800i), with Android 2.3.3, no root and no custom rom, locked bootloader.
Because i am from Germany, and we always use "Military-Time", my 24-hour tickbox was enabled by default.

Great work...works well on my wildfire. It would be great if you make it like htc sense clock.
Awesome !!!
Fantastic job. Works like a dream. Have never seen such smooth transition...
A few suggestions if you can incorporate...
1. Would like the widget to open up alarm application when i click on the widget in home screen. This helps me to set alarm directly instead of opening the clock from apps.
2. Try to make a calendar with day month & year so that even the day, & date can be added as another widget below the time....
Once again, great app

Thanks for your feedback.
I have planned to add some customization in the near future, one of which is the ability to configure an application to launch when you tap on the clock.
The Calendar is a great idea. Though I think it would be better to place it either on the left or right (configurable) of the time in order to keep it a 4x1 widget. Any strong views on this?
I have mocked up a little graphic on how I think it could look:

Dude, the image is nice. However, I would suggest you to make it of the same size like the clock so that it can be added below the clock or maybe give us a choice of selection of size.
This way, if both clock & calendar are different, we can choose two different applications when we tap on these widgets.
Thanks again for your quick response.

I will take this into account. I think I will implement both, but as a different size widget. The idea I have is to have a 4x1 and a 4x2 widget, both where the date is optional. On the 4x1 it will sit on the side and on the 4x2 it will sit beneath.

Linear Clock adds a whole new way of stylish time display to your phone. The unique linear timeline is a fun and nice variety of other digital or analog clocks which are available for Android.
Make your home screen a bit more linear with the various widgets which you can customize with various themes and scale options, the useful wizards will help you to achieve this without difficulty.
Any comments, suggestions are welcome.
Thanks!

- Edit -
Released an update today for Linear clock.
Change log:
- Fixed: App icon on xhdpi devices.
- Improved the padding on widgets with flat border, they are now the same size as with metal border.
- Improved the padding for widgets on Android 4.0 and up.
- Added: You can now reconfigure a widget by pressing the right bottom corner of a widget.
I really like this idea; so much that I bought the pro version.
One suggestion though is to include widgets for 2 by 1 and 2 by 2 as well or allow resizing. Any way, just a thought!

Thanks for your support
Resizing is a bit difficult. Because of the way the widget is build I can not let it resize without getting the widget to look stretched or blurry. There might be a new function I can use that has been introduced in JB, but I did not yet have the time to take a closer look. But for all Android versions before JB it just can not be done for sure. (I Think that's also the reason why you almost only see clock widgets that are normal analog in a circle or digital)
But of course I could take a look at other sizes like 2x1 or 2x2 when I work on a next update.
Added link to pro version to the opening post and new screenshots
I Just released the latest update for Linear clock pro.
With this release you get the option to add transparent widgets, great for making minimalistic home screens.

Ok, I just made the pro version available to Indonesia, if you want it will be available within a few hours.
Unique look, I'm digging it.
Added the request for a 12 hour band.
Also the widget can now be put on your lock screen.
- Added: 12 hour band.
- Changed: It is now possible to use the widget on your lock screen (Android 4.2.2+)
Added links to the other xda threads for my apps in the opening post. Check them out if you like to.
I Just want to thank you guys on XDA for the support for my apps. So as a small thank you I have a few promotion codes that I want to give a way for my Linear Clock widget.
These codes are for the pro version, enter one on Google Play to get a copy version of the widget. The codes can only be used by one person, so if the code fails it is probably already taken by an other XDA member. Enjoy the app!
If there are people that would like to help beta test a next release of the pro version please leave a comment here on the topic and I'll send you a PM. To help out with the beta testing you will need to have a Google+ account so you can join the beta testers community. I'm looking for about five people to add to the beta testers community.

[APP] Ambient || Temperature, Humidity & Pressure display for S4

Ambient is an application that I am developing for using the sensors found on the new Samsung Galaxy S4. It has a simple and basic layout with minimal design and information.
NOTE: This app is compatible with Galaxy S4 only. Save your time by not trying to use it on other devices.
NOTE: The values displayed are directly taken from the sensors. Their accuracy depends on the accuracy of the sensors. There might be offsets.
NOTE: Please download the app from Play Store. The new rules of Play Store doesnt want developers to share app updates elsewhere.

I like how fast it loads up. That units setting will be very useful. I can't see myself using the app until it can do Fahrenheit.

Hiii. Currently working on the widget for the app. Will release the next version by tonight or tomorrow with widgets.
Brilliant.
And thanks!
Looks very nice. However can make the theme a bit more holo?

Works great on the S4 - thanks for this.
On a side note, where are the sensors located? I found it odd the galaxy stated via your app that the temp was 28celcius. My air-con system stated it was closer to 23celcius
Curious as to where the therm. sensor is as it would easily be manipulated during a long charge for instance if it is quite buried.

I will soon introduce theme options. I'll definitely include a pure stock feel Holo and Holo Light apart from default Black.

Well I have noticed the same thing. The temperature returned by the sensor is a little higher than actual. The device temperature will itself affect the temperature reading. As of now I couldn't find on the net about the location of the ambient temperature sensor.
OK just opened the phone up
From what I can see, I think it's located just above/the top right of the charging jack. This would explain the temp difference as that area probably does get warm with current going through it.

the ambient temp sensor is located at the bottom of the screen , inside the back button or menu button
Yup but it's on the secondary board not on the screen module itself
Great app thank you!Waiting for the widget version!!

So to anyone using it would you like an option rather than to display date you could also choose from something like "Today, 5 hours ahead" ?
Also thoughts about something like this for displaying time rather than traditional numbers?
New update:
Added a date preference in settings where rather than show date next to time it will display as something like Today, yesterday, tomorrow and hours behind/ahead. See screenshot:

I like it.
And here is my first impression.
Simple and easy use, which is good.
First time starting, it takes a bit for the "processing", maybe you want to consider renaming that to something like "Initialising first use or start or ..." this way a user won't get impatient nor wonders if that will now happen everytime.
I like that it asks to choose a color for the picked city, that is good, maybe you can also add custom color at some point.
Also I would rename "duration calculation" to "days since".
The widget is cool since it switches from city to city. Maybe later you can add custom duration times.
One thing about the widget is that the text is small compared to widget size.
At some point I would also add a dark theme.
So I hope you like my review/thoughts/impressions.
All in all is this a great app, especially for people travelling allot or who have work with people in different time zones.
Will continue using it and keep you posted on my impressions.

Thanks, glad you like. Yeah you are probably right about changing that to something like Initializing database. Definitely want to do a dark theme and add more widgets too!
Updated with time zone converter
BTW, anyone think of some useful tools I can add?
Updated with a week number calculator. Enter a week number and year and get back the start date
Update:
I've added a pin local time option in settings. With this you can pin current local time to the top of the list or set your own time zone and use that instead.
Hi,
This looks interesting, thanks for all the work so far, but would you be able to provide some screenshots of the widgets in action? I would only ever use the widget, I'd probably never use the actual app other than the initial set up... (though it does look really nice!)

Thanks, I've installed it but for some reason I cannot resize the widget down, seems it can't go smaller than 2 rows. Is this by design, or a bug, or just a problem on my phone? I'm using Xperia home launcher, with an xposed mod to set the grid to 6x5, and allows me to resize any widget to any size - and it's working fine with other widgets, I can make them anywhere between 1x1 and 6x5 without problems.

Yeah that is how it is for now. Shouldn't be a problem in an update though to allow resizing
Would anyone using the app find any of the tools on this page useful?
http://www.epochconverter.com/
New update, filling a couple of requests:
Tools>Seconds to days,hours,minutes,seconds
Change color from main screen rather than recreating a clock
