as far as I understand this stuff, your best bet would be to flash back to a stable firmware, for your device, maybe the one you had before (I'm hoping you have it written somewhere)

It sound like you removed what ever launcher comes as stock with your rom. Best bet is to just reflash the same rom with out wiping data. That way all the system apps will be restored but you won't lose any apps you have downloaded.
If that doesn't work you may need to do a fresh install of your rom.

I have recently started dabbling with rooting my phone and guess what- I LOVE IT!...I have been having so much fun getting the phone streamlined without the unnecessary apps and getting a faster response from the phone, that I want to do it for my wife's phone as well. She has the same HTC Hero and has been complaining of the poor response of her phone for a while. I want to clone my phone on her phone while I keep playing with the configurations and improvements on my phone. Is there a way to migrate all the changes I have done on mine into her phone seamlessly? I was thinking of some sort of nandroid backup made on mine, being used on hers- (I am a noob, so play nicely )
As far as I know, although I've never tested it...
If you root her phone and put the same recovery image on her phone (albeit Clockwork, Amon_Ra, or Darch) then it SHOULD successfully restore a nandroid image made on your phone. It might be easiest to just pop your sdcard into her phone when you restore your nandroid, that way you take no chances on the files being corrupted in the process.
The only problem I see with this is that if you restore a rom onto another phone, you'll in turn have to delete your sync data afterwards and then redo the setup with her gmail, etc etc.
Hope this helps and good luck! Glad you're enjoying your phone!
Doesnt work, I tried to use a nandroid of Fresh 2.4 from my wifes phone so I could update PRL and I kept getting errors
Both are HTC Hero's
It did boot up and all, but data and all that was messed up, maybe if he edited the build prop to match her phone?

Perhaps. But I wouldn't think so. If that was the case wouldn't you have to manually edit them everytime you flashed? I thought that data was kept on a separate partition... am I wrong?

No clue as to why it didnt work for me but it didnt...
When I had my phone replaced, I saved the nandroid from my original phone, used the same SD card, and had "my" phone back up and running in no time.
This shouldn't be an issue really.
My only question is, why not have the wife pick her ROM, theme, apps, customizations for herself?

I think the key word is "my" The nandroid I took from my wifes Hero worked for her phone. I had nandroided back and did a PRL update on her phone. I took that same file and placed it on my Hero and did the nandroid, it booted and everything Excited I went to update PRL and tried but kept getting a error. I tried to update profile and would get the same error.
Why?
Can it work if it got edited?
I dont know, I think it builds something on first boot that takes your info (cant remember what its called) and when trying to connect it needs that info. If it doesnt match what the ROM is telling the network thats where the errors come from, atleast I think, lol.
Try it, maybe it just didnt work for me.
I agree with riggsandroid though, flash her a clean install and let her pick and choose what she wants
Why not just use titanium backup on one, then restore it on the other? Unless I'm misunderstanding the problem.

so on my Inspire, I've finally rooted it, and I wanna kill me some bloatware and make this phone faster and leaner. What bloatware am I safe to delete? Also, are there any free apps to freeze things? Or because I'd have to flash back to stock ROM anyway to bring in for warantee, i might as well just delete bloatware? Also, how do I increase my battery life now that I'm rooted?
Man.....No one will hand this to you on a platter. Read. Read some more. All the answers you seek are here already. What is bloat to you may be a needed app to me.
Sense was bloat to me. ASOP.
Learn to search, then Get reading you have a a lot to figure out.
Lolz...its AOSP...and instead of deleting bloatware why not flash a ROM that is completely optimized for speed, such as Android revolution...
0
Link to Android Revolution thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964841
You can do this by using ROM MANAGER from the market. Once you download ROM manager you will want to flash Clockworkmod Recover which is at the top of the app, and after doing that you will be able to boot into recovery from Hboot or directly from an app on your device(You can get into hboot by checking fastboot is turned off and powering off your device, next hold the volume down key and power button for about 4 seconds...use volume rocker to scroll upsies and downsies and select recovery(you can also go into recovery by making sure fastboot is off and opening up ROM Manager and selecting it from there...)
Now that was just how to get into Recovery! We want to flash a ROM though! So we download the desired ROM of choice and in this case it is Android Revolution, put your phone into disk drive mode and place the rom on the root of your SD card...now boot into recovery(how to is above this paragraph), factory reset phone then got o advanced-wipe dalvik-cache and then go back to main recovery screen...choese intal from zip...find your ROM that you placed on the root and ta-da! Let it do its thing, once all done you will be promted to reboot and first boot can take about 5-10 minutes......its that simple!
Now this was a quick tut, nothing fancy or detailed, but when you are part of this forum you must read and read and read some more...and some more
For every ROM that is compatible with the inspire check out the development section, every ROM does its own thing, speed, looks, updates, you must pick one that you want...always try reading everything you see and no skimming! You will learn the basics after a week and after a month you will probably want to be developing your own ROMs and you will be helping others out with their problems

I think he knows that. Those acronyms just beg to be transposed.
UTMS or UMTS, WCDMA or WCMCA... You get the idea.
All Att apps
From what ive read it is better to just freeze them instead. I found a thread on the atrix part of the site showing the safe apps to freeze but haven't found one for the inspire...yet. I am still looking.
o btw....i am a new Inspire owner. I jumped ship from Blackberry a week ago and rooted my htc last night. This site is great!
You can use titanium backup to freeze the bloatware.
You can safely delete all of the AT&T B.S. I'm using the RCMix3D ROM, and it deleted it for me, but you can also use ROM Manager to delete it.
ClearDroid is stock minus bloat.

I've used Coredroid and Leedroid, and both were cool in their own way, but since they aren't designed especially for the Inspire, they each had glitches. ClearDroid is as smooth as stock on my Inspire with no glitches, and it doesn't have the ATT bloat. Also, on Clear, every app I've tried to install has worked. That was not the case with Core or Lee. My bank's app was a no go until Clear. The only drawback I have found with Clear is GPS lock times, but installing Angel's North America fix seems to be working, and now the developer is including it with Angel's permission in the newest version of his rom. If you veer too far from stock, get ready to reflash every few days because the chefs are constantly tweaking their roms. This is a good thing though. I think we all think of our phones as our favorite toy. haha
Okay so.. I have an answer to my problem.. this is a problem that i had encountered many times in forums while i was looking for my answer.. big thanks to diablo2224 for his help and a thanks goes out to Cranvis for actually replying at all..
Okay so the home button wasn't working at all and it would flash and basically do zero (im sure this fix would help any buttons if this was the case). In the end i didnt have much to lose the home button not working was giving me the 'sheets' so i just tried to flash most things for wifi xoom as i was hoping it would crack a difference but it didnt... i ended up seeing a post from stachre for an update and in it was there he had pointed to stock motorola files.. i grabbed these and preformed all wipes (user data, cache, delvik - i doubt it would do much but i did it anyway).. using fastboot i then flashed the boot.img, the system.img, the userdata.img and finally the recovery.img (can always flash over the CWM anway so not a big deal) and booted it back up... suprise suprise the home button was perfectly functional again (every other update/flash of software would seeming 'update' and not actually flash to that portion of the device thereby leaving my problem and the stock images must have actually hit these sectors) i know my answer is long but just trying to be helpful to anyone else with this type of problem (stock Xoom WiFi MZ604 HWI69 images from Motorola)
as a side note : this was followed by flashing the CWM again and booting into CWM and flashing the 2.1 hammer and then wiping user data and booting into the freshly updated rom stoked!
okay it seems the home button is not working at present. i have wiped all data and cache and dalvik cache a thousand times and tried reflashing, etc still to no avail. does anyone have any more ideas? its painful to push the back button a million times to get anywhere lol

ok, so a few questions.
I am guessing it is rooted so my questions are:
What ROM are you using?
Have you tried other ROMs?
Have you been experiencing this problem since you installed the rom?
have you downloaded anything (APP, Live Wall Paper, a random APK File) before this happened?
Are you using a screen protector on the Xoom?
~If yes to the last question, is there any air bubbles or dirt in that area of the button?
~If no to last question, are you aware of any dirt or scratches in that area?
Have you tried the Home tab in Landscape as well as Portrait mode?
Have you just recently updated to a OTA that was pushed out by either Motorola/Verizon/etc?
There could be many possible reasons as to why this is happening... and I would like to help you (and who ever posts afterwords) to fix this situation. I or someone else on this board will respond as soon as possible to your problem and I hope this post helps to solve the problem

Thank you for the speedy reply to my questions. And I am sorry to say, this is one that is over my head. I would suggest that you go to Tiamat's (Or current ROM's) maker and inquire for their help. I am new to some of this but I thought I should at least ask you the basics and make sure on everything. (Woo A+ Tech Training haha!) But unfortunately, I cannot help you with this problem because I do not know what could be doing this other then maybe a line of code didn't get placed into memory when the device was flashed, or maybe there is a small error in the code itself and only certain devices have this problem (different model number = slightly different change to the chip-sets and code of the device.) There are many things that could be the trouble, and like i said, unfortunately, they are out of my understanding of the device.
I do hope that you are able to get an answer soon to your question and I hope it is a simple answer.
Sorry I could not help any more but I hope others can!
Good Luck

I reported this issue once before when I was using Xoom Zone a month or so ago. I hadn't wiped data, and it was like the home button was there just to look pretty. You could click it, it would highlight, but it was broken. If anything, I can be of service as I have had this issue once before.
I will need more info though. Do you restore data and try to hit the home button, or do you try the home button after a fresh data wipe without restoring data? It's hard for me to explain what I want you to explain, but...

I see. I've never heard of this version of the problem. My problem occurred when updating from the 3.1 Rom to the 3.2 Rom. I only had this problem because I didn't wipe data the first time because after it booted up I thought all was well... until I discovered the home button was broken... lol.
Anyways, even I'm at a loss here for how we can solve your problem. A simple data wipe resolved mine in a heartbeat... but it seems your problem is still persistent even after a clean data wipe install... interesting... can't say that I've ever seen a problem stay in the memory even after a complete data wipe...
The only thing I can suggest is to maybe drop back to a stock Rom, maybe 3.1, then installing Tiamat from that fresh stock Rom with another clean data wipe before and after. That's all I can think of since after a data wipe it's still there. Good luck!

That might help. I can help as much as I can, but...
Try to go full stock first before anything. Do not use Tiamat for right now. Install a completely stock, but rooted 3.1 Rom is what I suggest for you to do so that you can see if it's still giving you troubles on a stock Rom.
I tried that from the other thread and gained a bootloop.. Maybe stock 3.1 recovery and not just an update more to the point where would i find such? I only used otas as i was just speeding process to get to 3.2 to start flashing customs

I dunno man, I'm usually one who has great helpful answers, but... uh, this one stumps me. Like I said, I've never seen a problem that still persisted after a data wipe. It's almost as if it is much deeper than a data wipe, but more like something has locked itself into your Xoom's memory and won't leave without forcing it out manually... something must be messing with your system files or something like that. Possibly something left over from the OTA updates of some sort maybe. Very strange...
I would pass this by Team Tiamat. Sorry I can't help this time. Good luck!

So you want someone to have a completely data wiped nandroid backup of the latest Tiamat Rom so that you can use that? That should work, especially if the backup has everything working perfectly. By having the ability to use nandroid backups you have nothing to lose since it can be restored very easily.

Cool! I knew it was something with the system files. Case closed.
so I installed eaglesblood version 1.08 i think. It is the latest one whaterver version it is and it was a great rom I really liked it but how do you get it to sync with google? Do I have to install gaps or something? If anyone knows I would really like some help because it is way better than stock. I had to restore my last rom because I needed to use the phone for contacts and also I live on long island and we just got hit with a hurricane and I was without sevice when I did the flash and I had no way to get to the market to install anything.

So I take it you use Eaglesblood yourself? If I have any question can I ask you? I do want to try all of the ROMS on this fourm.
OK this is weird I reinstalled it and everything is fine but I seem to haved lost my internal SD card. in file manager I cant find it and even when I hooke it up to my PC it is not there. Any Ideas anyone? I did two things differently when I flashed this time. I Always wipe the Dalvik first which I did but then I wiped thecache then did the factory reset usually I just go in order in the list and do Data reset then the one after wipe cache could that have anything to do with it? Also after I flashed the EB ROM I flashed the LG camera and gaps before I reset the phone instead of doing all three in a seperat process maybe that did it? If anyone can help I would really apriciate it.
Charlie
update: I restored my last backup from right before I flashed EB and everything went back to normal. So what I am doing now Is moving Titainum folder to my external SD so if it happens again I can still install my programs. Good thing I always make two backups of everything one on my HD and one on my ext HD for my computer. I am going to try again with EB because it is a kick ass ROM. Just a pain in the ass to get working right. This Is my first ROM that is not stock or based off stock like XB. I will keep this tyhread updated.
Update: Installed ver 8 again and still not working right I am not getting sservice now only wifi. So I tried ver 7 and that got service right away and it was all good for about 15 minutes and then I lost the green but still had service but no data no epc.tmobile when I search for networks I get 2 tmobile and att neither tmobile works for data. So whats happening anyone?
OK,
So was running ExtremeSensation™Series|ICS|Dream™3|Prime™5 and really liked it. And it comes with a app called JRummie Tools (I think thats it atleast).
And this app allows you to change splash screen, boot logo, font, system colors, etc. And I went ahead and bought the PRO version to support the dev . Tinkered with it, and it all went well. So last night I went back into it and picked all new everything, but this time I didnt restart after each mod, I waited until all were done, then rebooted. I also saw a feature to change the read/write speed of the SD card, and it suggested 1024kb, so I did that, rebooted, low and behold, Ive screwed something up lol! It reboots after the splash screen now, Ive tried doing a full wipe including dalvik cache, and re installing other ROMS. But it always gets to the splash screen, freezes and reboots.
I'm not exactly a genius when it comes to all this, but I know enough that I've been rooting my adroid devices for a few years now. All in all I'm just hoping someone smarter than me can help me out. When I google the issue, I merely get "Wipe and Reflash" over and over.
Thanks for any help!

First of All Make Sure U Have Latest Firmware.
2nd if u have that than
Use superWipe Scrpit After Using that
Than Flash the Rom
U wll B 100% Fine
for Reference Try Incertcoin Roms u Wll Love it
Thank you
Thank you, I know my firmware is good, but will double check. So the superwipe script is actually deeper than 4ext's wipe all except sd? Will try this when I get home though!
Also are you referring to the superwipe from the revolution rom?
