Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
no. not without some kind of thirdparty app that allows that.

This would be a cool app to have.
you might be able to find one that uses a volume button, like the iphone. im not sure you can have one that uses the power button as it would end up turning off the screen every picture. i dont know of any camera replacements anyways.
sorry am new to Andriod ,.... so pls forgive .......
BUT WHY use pwoer button to take pic ? Just curious
I thought the 'touch' is nicer

The sheer size of the Infuse makes use of the hardware power button helpful. When holding the device to take a picture, it is easier to hold the edges and tap the power button than holding it and tapping on the screen. For me anyway.
I can chip in my two cents worth and say a unnamed Dev was working on getting power button shutter working on the infuse a few nights ago. So in due time maybe we will see a thread with a modified camera.apk. They were having issues keeping the phone from going to lockscreen, so maybe after the holiday weekend we might see results. Overheard on irc.

Does this work on the Rogers version of Infuse 4G? or just for AT&T?
Here's a flashable zip to change your search button to shut screen off
For those that needs it and the lazy bastards that don't want to do it manually.
Nifty, I never use the search key so this may prove useful.
Perfect. I never use that button as well... Wonder if that button can be mapped to wake up screen as well??
That would be awesome but I think once the screen is off so does the soft keys as its an extension of the screen itself power wise atleast.
Screen on you can edit the soft keys to whatever you want
Screen off you're basically touching the screen when its off I.e nothing happens
It would be a different scenario if its a hard key
Has anyone flashed this yet? I never got around to it while I was on GB and it's not working on ICS. I don't want to declare that it doesn't work at all if it's only some difference with ICS or something with the alpha.

Its not been tested with ics yet as I'm still on cm7 latest nightly 221 but ics probably have a different location of where the keyboard layout are but if you can edit it and use this same script making sure to edit where the files is flash to you have my permission lol.
Thanks for the zip for the search button key. I love being a lazy bastard.

I'm very lazy, is there a way were can make a zip so we can change the search key to multitasking in ics sammich? I'm sure a lot of people would like that because holding home takes too long lol. Thanks

It may, when I get home from work I plan to try to reverse engineer both mods and see if any of it makes sense to me and can modify the search button for screen off. So long as they can be opened in a text editor I should be able to figure something out.

The zip for the search button mod, modify the actual buttons mapped out to specific numbers when its pressed for example for default the search button is 217 followed by 2 functions specified to it in /system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl
So when that button is pressed it is the value of 217 referencing what's defined in that file and yes its you can edit it with any editor.
Cool, thanks. I mostly follow what you're saying, but I'm better if I see it or have an exact example.

Just extract the files and go to the qwerty.kl and open it in notepad.
Yea, I'm on the bus home right now.

What file contains the softkey mappings, and can it be changed without root?
System_usr_keylayout_generic.kl
And
No.

Thanks.
And,
crap.
So...just checking; I'm looking to swap the "recent apps" and "back" buttons, which are off-display keys, of course. Don't suppose that's in some other file that I can change without root...somehow?
And if I really can't change them, how are after-market keyboards possible?
Keyboards are software.
You're looking to map hardware.
You need root to do that.
There are very easy Play Store apps that (once you're rooted) make it easy (I.e ButtonRemapper)
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
But of course I can't do that now, given that I can't even RUU back to 1.85.
Man, I know I have short thumbs and all, but does no one else have trouble using the phone right-hand only?
Dude please: I despise the power button. It doesn't click right. I came from a S3 but left it because I hated the home button. Now I found this phone that I completely love, but I hate that button. What we need is a dev to get Sweep2Wake running like on the Tegra model

Yeah the power button could be more clicky. It is hard to press. What i did was flash cm9/10 and use volume wake. WAY better.
I've searched and tried several apps to link ringer and notification. I love TouchWiz, but this is the ONE thing that pushes me to a CM ROM. I don't want to have to open an app each time i want to change both options. I came from an Optimus V and a Thunderbolt after. Both were able to link Ringer/Notification volumes.
So, does anybody know if a "fix" has been round or at least a workaround?
Nobody even has a suggestion? i know somebody here has got to know something :fingers-crossed:

Apps allow linking the two but only if you change the volume from within the app. If you use the volume rocker the two stay unlinked. I'm looking for a way to permanently link the two to allow use of the volume rocker.

I've brought this up before, I loved it on my X2 and hate that on this. Wonder if anyone who knows how to mod could make a mod for this.

Hi! I'm not sure where to put this, but I think it's an app I'm after so I'll make a try here.
Is there any way, like an app, to control the volume buttons? I change the volume accidently all the time, actually I rarely ever want to change it since this is a wifi only version and I I find the system sounds just disturbing. So turning them off completely would be nice, and I've searched for a app to do this but no luck yet.. A small widget to replace the power button sure ain't hard to find so it must be possible.
Thanks in advance!

As far as I can tell that's just an app to change the volume in the status bar. It doesn't seems to turn off the hardware buttons, or is it?

I have no idea what you mean but there ain't a way to turn off the buttons in the settings as far as I can see. And that's my problem, I know how to change the volume without using the buttons, there's even apps for that like the one linked above. But I've not found any to turn off the buttons, preferably all the time except for when it change the media volume but it's not the end of the world if I have to do that manually in the device as well..

Congrats you helped this person exactIy 0%....
1.He stated he didnt know if he had placed his post in the right section ,he didnt ask where he should have placed it.
2.Why reply at all with an abscence of an answer, ie: "But I dont know of any app for that" .If everyone who didnt know of an "app for that" posted, the post would be 4,000 pages long....just stay on the sidelines.
3.OP didnt ask what YOU wanted/needed..."Never wanted needed something like that"
4.Your thinly veiled condemnation of his misfingering his device (accidentally adjusting the volume) is completely uncalled for.
MODS: My apologies if I am out of line.
OP: I would think a mod rather than an app might be what you seek.Apps being more device universal.Try the Themes section.Lotta mods there.

Well I suppose it's good to know next time how to think when posting a new thread, I use different forums all the time but I'm not used to this "is it a question, post it in Q&A no matter the topic". To me every thread should be posted in the section that best describes the subject no matter if it's a question or not but that's obviously not the case here.

Hmm, I was worried about that but since there seems to be an app for everything now I thought there might be that for this as well. I know that I'm not the only one with this problem, and besides many with me think that the buttons are turned upside down when you use the device on portrait mode like I do now. If I have it turned with camera facing to the right seen from the screen side volume up is down and if I rotate it 180 degrees I can't hold and it while typing without accidently pressing the buttons.
Actually I think the button to adjust the system sounds is useless on a wifi-only device, but that's a different story. So to get back to topic, I suppose this mod can't be done without rooting the device first?

There's an app called volume locker which locks your volume unless you confirm any changes due to pressing buttons.
