Here's a flashable zip to change your search button to shut screen off
For those that needs it and the lazy bastards that don't want to do it manually.
Nifty, I never use the search key so this may prove useful.
Perfect. I never use that button as well... Wonder if that button can be mapped to wake up screen as well??
That would be awesome but I think once the screen is off so does the soft keys as its an extension of the screen itself power wise atleast.
Screen on you can edit the soft keys to whatever you want
Screen off you're basically touching the screen when its off I.e nothing happens
It would be a different scenario if its a hard key
Has anyone flashed this yet? I never got around to it while I was on GB and it's not working on ICS. I don't want to declare that it doesn't work at all if it's only some difference with ICS or something with the alpha.

Its not been tested with ics yet as I'm still on cm7 latest nightly 221 but ics probably have a different location of where the keyboard layout are but if you can edit it and use this same script making sure to edit where the files is flash to you have my permission lol.
Thanks for the zip for the search button key. I love being a lazy bastard.

It may, when I get home from work I plan to try to reverse engineer both mods and see if any of it makes sense to me and can modify the search button for screen off. So long as they can be opened in a text editor I should be able to figure something out.

The zip for the search button mod, modify the actual buttons mapped out to specific numbers when its pressed for example for default the search button is 217 followed by 2 functions specified to it in /system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl
So when that button is pressed it is the value of 217 referencing what's defined in that file and yes its you can edit it with any editor.
Cool, thanks. I mostly follow what you're saying, but I'm better if I see it or have an exact example.

Just extract the files and go to the qwerty.kl and open it in notepad.

Ha, at least you can do it modifying a simple file! It looks like I'm going to have to write some C code and maybe compile my own kernel to get done what I want done:

Sorry, can't help you there. There are some apps on the Market that take screen shots but I can't recommend any since I never have problems with the built in one.

I don't think the previous responders get your question. Some roms do support custom boot animations, there are a few threads on the site that explain how to do this. Feel free to look some up.
I think he wants a button in the shut down menu that will take a screenshot of whatever is under the menu. Haha not sure ...

Similar to what is available in CM7? Don't know how that is integrated, but it would require a decent amount of smali work to get it accomplished.
Obviously the title doesn't say it all. Haha

i know its late bute Drocap2 (probably have to get the apk from a search as it was pulled from the market) will let you have a notification bar trigger, map screenshotting to the search button, and has a shake trigger if that helps

Honestly, it's a timing issue... I used to have a hard time getting shots by holding Back and then hitting Home, but I've gotten MUCH better at it. It's all in the timing of how you do it, the best way i can explain it is to press back and kind of say "one one-thousand" to yourself then tap Home without moving your finger off of Back. You'll here the camera shutter sound and it'll be saved to your SD card in a folder for screen shots.
This is the only way I take my shots and it works fine, provided you've got the timing down (also, I've only used Froyo ROMs).

There are still some things you'll never get a screenshot with. Why not just use one of the screen capture apps like DroCap or Shootme? There are likely hundreds more that do the same thing as well.

I'm having the worst trouble with my nexus S's search button triggering all the time. Sometimes it seems that its just being overly sensitive like my finger brushes along the bottom of the phone while I type / hold the phone. And the button activates.
Its horribly irritating its pretty well documented as an old issue but I would like to possibly start this topic here on xda. Someone mentioned a software fix for it triggering by itself in some legacy version of android. But if there is anyone who has a fix please let me know I've had to exit the search bar about 10x while writing this.

Disable touch capacitive buttons (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1554111&page=6) and install a rom with on screen buttons (Cyborg or aokp)...use kernal with bln to take off the lights
I did this to fix the auto back button firing
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
I wonder what causes it I mean if its just open the phone up and clean it or something I don't really have a problem with it.
Could you possibly paste a recent link to the rom if that's not too much to ask.
Also did you ever manage to figure out why it was happening?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA
Its in the general forum aokp b38
Some people say its a software-hardware problem...some people send it off for screen replacement and it fixed it...but I didn't want to send it so I just mod it like this and its working awesome
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
OK awesome I really don't want to have to send it because I like the amoled screen. There is a forum post that says there is a fix in one of the ota updates don't know what it was exactly though I'll try and find it and report back.

I'll try this first since I'm trying to stick with my hsdpa uncaoped radio with the matr1x kernel and the crossbones rom and voodoo sound and video.
------------------
Edit: it would appear that the first file "key remapper " worked great and all I needed was root no losing screen space or flashing a new rom. I just remapped key 217 (search key) to the camera focus function. Which shouldn't bother me too much.

Never tried this but in theory it should work the link below shows how to remap the key layout but if you edit and remove the back menu etc I would think it would disable the keys. I would do nandroid first incase something goes wrong or copy the file before you alter it.

Instead of removing them, I believe putting # in front of each line comments out the line. It was that way with my Captivate. As always, make a backup and definitely enable your on-screen keys FIRST so you don't end up without any type of back/home button in case things go wrong. The hardware key changes should take affect after a reboot.

This. I've flashed both dim and disable leds from turge and neither seem to work. I've also set all capacitive button values to 0 under customer back light settings but they still light up at full brightness and turn off after about 8 seconds of inactivity. I used the dim mod on king Cobra and it was way better but I can't get it to stick on AOKP.

I AM NOT TAKING ANY CREDIT FOR THIS, FOUND ON GOOGLE AND WANT TO SHARE
Mount as R/W
Open /system/usr/keylayout/gpio-keys.kl. with text editor
Go to "key 172 HOME WAKE" line
Delete word WAKE
Save and exit
Reboot phone
That's all , now you stoped the home button from waking up your device.
Probably working on all roms but i tested with rooted stock rom.
Will work on rooted stock roms for sure

That seems like the complete opposite of its purpose when the device is in sleep.
But you can just turn off the lock screen, and you accomplish what you're asking for. No security at all though. Butt dials like a mother. No one wants that.

I know it's the complete opposite of this mod but it will be faster (IMO) to double click the home button to wake-unlock the device.
But no lock screen will definitely cause butt dials

looking for the same thing.
Not working in Sprint S4 running liquid smooth (AOSP is ya didn't know). Been searching everywhere. Anyone know if there's a way to disable it on AOSP roms? Tried removing wake from every single file inside the key layout folder but met with no success...
Thanks, it was very useful to me, to re-enable the wake up screen on home button.
Not work
