How can we get additional settings for the native SMS APP? I just want to make the background black, really. I tried using the apk off my HD2 and it would not work.

Have you tried handcent SMS? I've used it on every android phone I've ever had (with exception the samsung captivate). It's highly customizable & has a free version. If you are determined to have the stock messaging app... I came along this post:

sorry, didn't look above me
The posted black backgroud MMS.Apk seems buggy.

delete old apk from system/app with android commander then push the new mms, or gmail, or google quick search box to the same directory and reboot. (root explorer can do this)
Moved it to /system/app with root explorer, and set correct permissions... worked beautifully. I was just thinking about pulling this from a cyanogen rom and trying it last night... Lol

can't this be packaged so it is flashable via recovery? I think this is how I've done it in the past with my N1 vs deleting it through ADB and reinstalling a new version?
Ok so with the touch capacitive buttons lighting up via maxisma's app, this mms.apk apparently doesn't wake the screen for notifications. Hence the notification app not working... Can anyone second this?
Edit... Just pushed the stock mms.apk back, this is definitely the issue...

Anyway to get the notification leds to flash when a text received on 2.3.3 like it does on cm7?
Their is no notification led built in

srry, i meant the button lights on the bottom
There is an app in the Market called LG 2X/Black/3D Notifications that works with the G2X. It worked without root with 2.2 but apparently it requires root with 2.3.3 due to some changes LG made to the phone.
Yup I use the one phburks suggested works very nice, the developers of the app fixed the root issue with 2.3.3, works flawless
thx

I wouldn't call it fixing the root issue. I just downloaded and installed the app and it required root permission to make the file writable and has to do so at every boot. So if you are not rooted it will not work on 2.3.3 on our device.
Does not work for me.

No it is not possible. LG changed the permissions on the file that controls the soft key lights in Gingerbread. It is now a read only file. In order to write to it and turn on the lights you must be rooted so the app can change the permissions.

I think this one sucks compared to the CM7 one. CM7 one has slightly better options and less annoying. That is, unless someone can tell me how to not get this one to "pulse" the lights and give the option to cler with touch of home key.

No. it basically turns your screen on when you get a notification and shows icons depending on what you have...mail..txt..etc. It keeps the screen on until you check it (i think you can set it on a timer tho). But yeah..its a battery drain.

Hi, how do I make it so my g2x turns on it's light to let me know whenever I have a new text? It currently works for missed calls but not when I have a text message I didn't read.

The app I use is LG 2X/Black/3D Notification. Works great for me. You may need root before it will work.
But before I didn't need to use an external app. I don't know why but it stopped working for me all of a sudden.
Go to settings>CyanogenMod settings>interface>led notifications, then assign to whatever you want. But I also use the LG g2x/ black/ notification app. It works best.

On the new stock 2.3.4 that was just released, there are 2 features I miss greatly.. one is the dimming of the led lights.. and the other is using them as a notification. Has anyone found an app that works? I did find 1 notification app but from what I read, it sucks the battery down cuz it flashes.. can't do a steady light.
Thanks !

There's a link in the thread I started about the application for notification toggles in this sub-forum. As to your question about the text things. Your phone lights up while you're texting? That's kind of normal don't you think. The screen coming on when the text comes in is a stock messaging thing. Nothing that can be done except installing a custom messaging application, as far as I know, I like that it lights up.

ha, not while i'm texting... duh, the screen would need to be on for that, haha. When I receive a text, the screen turns on. The other day I was txting with a friend then I got into the middle of something and she sent another 5txts.. and the screen kept turning on. Pretty wasteful on the battery..

Has anyone figured out what causes the keyboard to stop working in messaging?
I can hit the first letter, and the keyboard will bring up predictions for what I press, but it won't enter any text into the field.
To fix it, I have to back out of the conversation and return to it to be able to type again.
It does it with all keyboards, too.
I can't exactly figure out what causes it to stop working. Before I thought it was locking the phone in the middle of typing, because it would sometimes be unresponsive after unlocking, but I've also had it be fine after unlocking, and I've also had it stop responding in the middle of me typing.
That's the only issue I've had with AKOP, apart from the wifi toggling thing, but that's a well-known bug.

I use Swiftkey X, but it will do it with the stock keyboard as well. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the keyboards, since they'll load up predictions for whichever button I press, but it just won't actually type in the field.

Sucks to hear, i'll hold off for now
I have been getting a little less battery life with ics...but nothing shocking. I get anywhere from 10 to 16 hours...but that is the same I have been getting with gb...even froyo. I do a lot of reading and listening to the radio...and I always have a charger near by for those occasions when the battery gulps instead of sips.
OK, maybe a dumb question. Coming from GB Roms, I am use to "My Files". On this ROM where do I find something that works the same, or what is the format?
