Hey everyone, I just put the Nexus S/Nexus One boot animation on my G2X and I must say it looks really nice, and it also goes well with the phone because of the 'X' in G2X. To apply it you need to be rooted. Simply put the zip file on your SDcard, rename the file to 'bootanimation.zip' (without quotes), and copy it to /system/media/ using root explorer or ADB. I'll attach the boot animation below.
NOTE: You will have to delete the old boot animation in /system/media/. I backed mine up by renaming it to bootanimation.zip.bak.
Just tried it and works, except this is the old school "Android." Logo. I thought this would be the nice Nexus X logo.

make sure you set the permissions correctly.
What permissions??
I used this, and it works perfectly.

Only thing thats a bit annoying is that I still have the Tmobile shutdown animation which sucks!

I am trying to change the boot animation on my X. I have pushed bootanimation.zip to both /data/local and /system/media using Terminal Emulator, adb push, and root explorer. All I'm getting is a black screen after the M logo. I was able to successfully change it to the red rage boot animation by pushing it to /system/media but the sizing was off and it didn't looks so good. But I have tried 2 different BA's and get the black screen. Do I need to modify something to make it compatible with the X? Below are the 2 I was trying to push.

No. There's a thread @ AndroidForums about custom boot animations and working ones. Since my account is apparently "new", I'm unable to link to the thread. If you go to the Motorola Droid X forums, then to the "All things Root" thread, you'll see one started entitled "Custom Boot - Blue X takeover for root users."
Thanks but that guy is just skinning the original BA. I'm trying to put a completely different one one. I'll do some experimenting today while sitting at work I guess...
i know when making livewallpapers and what not the .png has to be certain dimensions and 24bit .
i would right click the png check properties and see if it says 32 if it does i believe the png cant be processed and will give a black screen.
only other thing i can think of is the desc.txt file which tells the phone how fast or w/e to show the pics. that i know little about.
edit: i believe though 8bit is ok for png, and it might be different i would check the properties of the original to see

this maybe stupid, but are you renaming them to bootanimation? they HAVE to be named that when you place them in the media folder in order for them to work!!
C'mon man, give me SOME credit...
HA GOT IT! When re-inserting (hehe) the files back into the bootanimation.zip, or when making a new zip, you need to set the compression to STORE. Then just drop it in /data/local with root explorer and you are good to go!
I cannot for the life of me get custom boot animations to work. I'm rooted. using root explorer i've used every tutorial on the internet! i'm on an Motorola Milestone running GOT 2.2 rom.
I put the "bootanimation.zip" on my SD card, i then move it to system/BIN and replace my original boot animation. Reboot the phone and nothing. just about 10 seconds or so of the Motorola "M" logo. I've tried everything. putting the files in there unzipped. The only thing that looks a bit odd to me is that the original "bootanimation" file's icon is just a plain white icon. but when ever i move the new bootanimation file over it shows up as a zip file. this has to have something to do with it? i also screwed around with the permissions so that the new bootanimations permissions matched the old one. anyone have any idea what i'm doing wrong here?
Hello. I am aware that I can use adb to change my boot animation but I also heard that you can use boot explorer as well but I am not sure how. Can anyone explain? Thanks.

You should be able use Root Explorer to copy the VZW_bootanimation.zip and replace the old one in the \system\customize\resource\ folder then reboot.
May be a product of my Virtuous ROM, but my HW Rev 003 SLCD Dinc has it in /system/media/ Just rename the existing to bootanimation.old and copy a new one in using Root Explorer and it took and ran.
Uh, I have skyraider. In skyraider the old one was in the system/media folder but when I replaced it, nothing happened. Anyone with skyraider?

Ensure you select "mount as R/W" before you try to replace it.
Make sure your new zip file has the exact same name as the old one.
Extract your new zip contents and compare it to the old zip contents to ensure you have all the required files. It should have a text file labeled "desc.txt" and at least one folder labeled "part0".
The text file is basically instructions for how to display the folder contents (which are bunch of png's) so that they make up an animation.
Good luck my friend.
Well, I tried replacing both the shutdown and the boot one and neither worked. The shutdown one is just a blank screen while the boot is still the same. One thing to note though is that the boot screen isn't the Droid eye one but the one with the android dancing. I thought that was supposed to go away after the first boot so that may be a problem. Thanks for the help so far
Hey guys, today i tried to change my boot animation with ROM toolbox but it failed. Then i also tried by copying boot animation.zip in root/system/media but still it didn't change.
What should i do ?
put the bootanimation.zip into (root)/data/local/, save and reboot(with a root file explorer). if its still not working, then wont work with the n5. rom toolbox is an old app, and has old boot animations. its possible they wont work with the n5.
@simms22
Worked by placing zip in data/local
Thanks , from where can i get batman boot animation for nexus 5 .
Tried google it bt no good results

you can make one
if you do find older boot animations, most will be tiny on the n5screen.n because the n5 has a much greater screen resolution than any older device. i havent seen any newer batman boot animations.

Old or not, there's no reason they shouldn't work. If they aren't made for this specific screen resolution, all you need to do is unzip the animation, batch resize all the images in the the folders, edit desc.txt and compress it back to a zip file again. Pretty simple, actually! :good:

i said older and being tiny on the screen. anyways, i think if the op knew how to enlarge them and zip them back up, then he wouldnt be looking for a batman boot animation, he would make his own

That sounds like a lot of work to me
Does anyone have a copy of the stock droid maxx boot animation? The one with the red that flashes to the eye? All the system dumps I've found have just a plain android logo, no droid eye. I had a brain fart and changed mine using rom toolbox before I backed up the stock one.
Here's a youtube video of it in action:

This is weird. i put it into the system/media folder, and it literally just has the words android, and it has like a shiny wipe across it as it boots. that's it. It is the same animation I got from the 19.6.3 system dump files too. It definitely isn't the animation that was on my phone before. Any suggestions?
Edit: I also just looked at the files in the .zip and they are definitely what is supposed to be there. Why is it showing the plain android instead of the normal animation?
Edit 2: Also, when I go into rom toolbox and preview the current animation, it loads and plays just how it's supposed too, sound and all.

You aren't setting permissions correctly. Use a file manager like ES File Explorer and on each of the two items I gave you, go to properties and change their permissions to rw-r-r. The weird "android" is defaulted when there is no boot animation, by the way.
Use this photo for reference if you don't understand.
