Where's the file located?
+1 I hate that sound
/system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg
if you want it to sound different, just replace it with a different file.
if you don't want to hear it, just rename it.
if you want an automated process to do it, just make a simple script that renames it back and forth between the proper name and anything else (remember to mount r/w)
i don't get why people want this as an option.. is there EVER a time when you actually want it to make the sound? just nuke it... why waste the space for a radio button or check-box?
*edit* also, @deadpoux ... it's not an option in the stock rom because they've been trying to make it a legal requirement in many places, including the US. Not sure if this has passed or not, but here's the first link I found about it. http://www.tgdaily.com/consumer-electronics-features/41212-camera-click-sound-could-become-legally-required
sorry in advance for being so noob, but.... how can I delete/rename the file?
Tried using terminal emulator on the phone, but get no permission message....
please advise.
thnks
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg
Should do the trick.
if you're not comfortable with using adb, just download "rootexplorer" and navigate to the directory then in the upper right corner, click the button to select "r/w" access (read/write) and then long click camera_click.ogg and delete or rename, etc...
then switch back to "r/o" (read only) when you're done.
I will mention if you use root explorer, be VERY careful, if you poke around too much, you may cause issues with your phone. I can't see anyone actually bricking their phone with it, but it would require a reflash at the very least. I'd recommend at least trying to understand adb basics.
thanks guys, I used adb with your suggestion and now the camera is silent!!
thanks again!

That's the actual picture taking sound. If you hold the trackball to focus, there is another sound before the picture is taken.
yeah, wasnt aware of this, right...donno where it is yet, sorry..

Isn't that just the sound of the "Volume Up/Down" sound? In that case i wouldn't remove that one :-/
Re: [request]disable camera sound from camera settings
no i think its another one.
i guess we could listen to them all the find the second sound......

depending on what rom ur on
CM 5.0.5.3 has desire camera port and it has the shut shutter sound off in options
its a bit more difficult getting the CM 5.0.5.3 desire camera port to work on CM 5.0.6 and the app is obviously on the desire rom's, enom's official rom has the use for it as well
unzip & push this .ogg file to /system/media/audio/ui

Slide faster, I know what you mean because of the vibration but just swipe faster it should work like 1 maybe 2 times.
video + camcorder
video and camcorder arent listed under known problems in this thread, so i thought i should mention them. video playback (youtube + other streaming video apps) doesnt work- it will freeze on the first frame and continue playing audio in the background. camcorder just doesnt work.
im sure alot of you are saying "there are no video drivers for 2.1, you dumbass" but based on what i read about the rom before downloading, i was under the assumption that it would be mostly/fully working. camcorder wasnt listed under known issues so i thought i wouldnt have a problem with that either.
im not complaining about the rom, its very good in terms of stability, reliability, speed. but for me, i cant use a rom everyday if i have no video recording or playback. hopefully we'll have the drivers and whatever else we need for those to work soon. thanks and keep up the good work!
Its okay I figured out a way, flash marvins ROM, then download Helix Launcher from market, copy to folder, reflash/ fresh wipe then flash yours, push Helix Launcher then BOOM! It should work right? LOL!

Video playback isnt working, video camera does partially work, but freezes when you stop it then it goes to a Non stop FC's when you try opening camera (only resolve is reboot), YouTube HQ only works atm, we don't know why only the best quality works not the low quality. Just be patient, believe it that this ROM is one of the fastest/updated Eclair ROMS you'll come across.

Oooh look a new thread!
@XxKOLOHExX - last post until break time - there was a suggestion in one of the other 2.1 threads that changing ringtones to .ogg format may make the rom a little more responsive when taking incoming calls. Maybe you could test this for us? Would changing all alarms / ringtones / notifications to .ogg format make the whole rom any more responsive?

Anyone know an app where you can add sounds to pictures you have on your phone.
anyone? If there is no app does anyone know how to do it on the computer?
I can't speak for anyone else, but, personally I have no idea of what you're getting at. If you add sound to a picture, it's no longer a picture. It's a movie file with a still frame.
Do you have an example of what you're talking about?

I have a picture stored on my phone of someone, that i would like to add sound or somone's voice over it.
I get text messages all the time, of a still picture with sound over it.
When you get MMS like those, the picture and sound are added seperately. On a lot of phones, when you open picture mail, you'll see "add picture" "add sound" and "add text".
Then, when the person opens, they all show/play at once
Oh, and to answer your next question in advance: The EVo's MMS doesn't have it, because the MMS on here ****in' sucks.
Yeah that is what i was trying to do, but couldn't. I'm using handcent for my mms. I figured there was some sort of app to open up a picture and just add sound over it and send away. Would be a nice app to have some fun with if it could be made.
Thanks for the help tj.

I agree that it'd be nice... it just bugs me that it's a pretty standard features on even the crappiest phones.
when you go to send an mms, click menu, attach, slideshow. then when you choose picture, click menu and you will see the option to add picture, capture picture add music, add video.press add music then you are given the option of audio, or record audio. Clicking audio then ask you where to add audio from. Clicking record audio you can record a new audio file to add.

Hello, sorry if this in the wrong subforum, but I wanted to ask, is there an camera app for S4 which lets you take manual control over the camera?
I mean stuff like shutterspeed, aperature etc.
I think the S4 camera has much potential then the default camera app shows it to have.
Also, would like manual control over the video mode.

There isnt but you can give a try a few good ones,
-Camera fv-5
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flavionet.android.camera.pro
-Snap Camera HDR
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.marginz.snap
-DSLR
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera
the closest one for what your looking for it is Camera-Fv5 but i recommend all of them.
Hope this helps. Cheers!
The aperture is fixed at 2.2 anyway

If the Camera App doesn't have that option under Settings and your phone is rooted, you can disable it using a
root explorer App and navigate to: system/media/audio/ui
and rename the file "camera_click.ogg" to whatever you want.
This isn't really a solid solution to your problem (could be a hassle to you), but if you put your phone on silent or vibrate you will not hear the shutter sound go off! This works for me as because my phone is always in vibrate mode from the moment I wake up, however like i said not a solid solution if you don't prefer silent or vibrate mode.
Just mute your ringer. It works, at least in EU version.

The option doesn’t exist in the settings. Muting the phone before every time I use the camera is too much of a nuisance since I keep the sound on for other apps.
So, since my phone is rooted, your option of renaming the sound file is the best one for me. Tried it and it worked perfectly.
Thank you!

The option in settings is a custom ROM feature that some ROMs have. Keep in mind that removing the .ogg won't disable the sound for the HDR+ mode in Google Camera, as its embedded into the apk. You could use a Tasker profile to mute it when your camera app is open, too.

I purchased Tasker long ago, just to support the author, but to my shame I have not yet learned how to use it...... ?
That would indeed be a good use for Tasker. Maybe I will find a ready made profile (if that's what they are called) that someone else donated.
Thanks for the suggestion.

OK here you go man. Let me know if you have any issues. I did test it. If you have notification sound issues while this profile is active (only while in camera app) let me know. I'll find a workaround.
Make sure you remove the .XML extension (leave the .prl). Move to SDCARD/Tasker/Autoimport. Relaunch Tasker.
