Go to your local R... Shack and look for the catalog number 63-1313. Its a little illuminated microscope for less than $15.
I used mine to compare the display quality and pitch of my HTCs HD2, Surround and Touch Pro. You'll be amazed!

So COOL XD

[Q] Gtab screen idea

I just recently had an idea about the terrible viewing angle of the Gtab's screen. the basics of a LCD screen is a sandwich of glass, liquid crystal, electrodes, and more glass. but the most important part is the back-light, it allows you to see what is displayed on the glass. the back-light on most monitors consists of a row of LED lights and many sheets of paper that evenly spread and carry that light.
my thought being what if we replaced the the films and papers behind the glass to distribute the light better.
sorry for the long post but i realized this after watching a tare down video of an LCD screen. also after thinking when i turn my gtab upside down i can see it at most viewing angles (seeing as the LED strip is directly shining from that angle)
would this be possible?
how about finding a way to flip the screen around?

Hmm that still doesn't solve the problem. You still get that weird angle in portrate and I don't think the cables would reach from the other side.
Good thought though.
the viewing angle has nothing to do with the backlight. A stronger backlight would be better for outdoor viewing though.
There is another long thread on the site with most of this info in it.

I'm not saying its the backlight but the distribution of that light that is the problem

Issue with viewing angle are due to the circular polariser in front of the lcd and also to the material used in the capacitive film, I doubt you will get much by playing with the backlight...
That said the spec of the screen are not the worst I have seen, far from it...

I personally have zero issue with the screen. My Dell Mini 9 is the same way and I just view it head on. When I use my Mini9, I angle the screen to it's perpendicular to my view. I do the same with my Gtab.
Would it be better if it had an IPS with RGB LED backlighting? Yes, but it would also be about $400 more to buy.
That being said, I may ask LG for a sample through work, for one of their new IPS screens, just to see what a difference it makes.

why s-lcd is so reflective

the s-lcd screen is so reflective i have no view under the sun.
Glossy coating on the screen, instead of the matte finish you're probably used to.

what you've done is opened up the "Mirror" app.. just go ahead and close that, should solve all of your problems (not just problems with the phone)

Winning.
10chars.
10?
A glossy display is going to be glossy regardless of the type of panel it uses, whether it's IPS, PVA, TN, or whatever. Sure, some offer better contrast and brightness and can therefore be better under different scenarios.
Get a matte coating if you want it to be less reflective.
In direct sunlight I can view the screen relatively well with brightness turned all the way up.
You need a phone with super amoled display...wonder which phone is that.

[Q] Few important questions

Hello, in a next few days I'm most likely to buy Samsung Nexus S I9023.
But I have found in this webpage that 1.it does not film at 720p also 2.LAGS in web scrolling. What is more 3.it does not have gorrila or whatever glass, is it important or just a marketing thing? So what is the current situation on number 1 and 2. Thank you very much

I use mine as a phone, not a camera, so i don't really care about the 720p
The browser does lag on images, but alternative browsers (like dolphin and firefox) are fine.
Gorrilla glass does help, but it's not perfect. I support about 40 phones, 35 of witch have regular glass and 5 have gorilla glass. Over a 1 year period, I've had 1 non-gorilla glass get cracked, 2 with gorilla glass got shattered in the same time period.
To me, Gorilla glass is more about avoiding the minor scratchs and not total shatter proofing. I also have the belief that if you think your glass is more shatter proof, you are less likely to be protective of it.
(for those who want to see a shattered gorilla glass, i've attached a photo - 2 foot drop from shirt pocket landed flat faced on pavement)
Thank you for reply, I just got informed that this nexus s has super clear lcd instead of super amoled. Which screen is better while having direct contact with the sun?

i guess SA screen is better when you looking at under sunlight ,
but Super Clear LCD also is fine , it's depending on your brillantness setting
so super clear lcd is jut natural colours versus SAMOLED too bright colours ? and Super clear lcd is jut bad at different view angles but other than that its good ?

gorilla glass?

i don't know if I'm just not as careful as I think I am but the glass on my phone scratches really ****ing easily.
im always so careful with my devices. i've had my hox for a couple weeks and I only ever keep it in my pocket with nothing else in there or face up on a desk or table
I've got 2 little nicks in the middle and a big scratch across the top left corner that I can feel if I run my finger over it
its my fault for not having a screen protector, and I've been meaning to order one and just haven't gotten around to it, but I'm a little disappointed it scratched so easily

None of my Android devices with gorilla glass have ever scratched. I just sold my Atrix I bought at release (bought in Q1 2011) yesterday- flawless glass. Keep it away from diamond earrings and sand. Most metal in general to be safe.
i have a feeling there was a grain of sand in my pocket. its the only thing I can think of.
hopefully the screen protector hides it a little
does anyone have experience getting best buy to exchange phones broken by user error? lol
We've been talking about this for eighteen pages on the international forum. There's also a thread on the SGS3 forum with owners having the same issue. It appears GG2 is less scratch resistant than GG1. I don't normally use a screen protector but am now after reading people's experiences.

Whew, then it's a good thing our phones have gg1
Yes it will scratch. I scratched mine with my wedding ring in 2 places already. Although they are on the sides and not very noticeable it can happen. I know that the wet application screen protectors do a good job at hiding the scratches like Zagg or Skinomi. I had a Zagg on mine but took it off because I didn't like the feel of it but I couldn't see the scratches with it on. I put a Skinomi on my wife's gs2 and it also covered up the scratches. I think I'm going to try the XOskin this time around for my one x. I heard the were pretty good protectors.

"The 4.7-inch 720p Super LCD 2 display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2, which is the new version that's thinner and stronger. We first saw the Gorilla Glass 2 back at CES 2012, though the glass manufacturer did not reveal then which handsets will be featuring the technology. HTC also told us that the One X features optical lamination, a process through which the screen ends up laminated to the glass, resulting in better viewing angles. We found this to be true, and having the screen so close to the glass makes it appear brighter and more visible under sunlight."

What do you guys do to these phones? I have an aria and inspire. I am a truck driver. I have dropped the phones a time or two. I have had them jump out of the clamp type mount on rough roads. I have yet to crack or scratch a screen. I think there are a lot of very careless smartphone owners out there. I hear a lot of damage issues especially with gorilla glass. It does not sound like gg is any better than anything else.

The HTC One X is shaping up to take point as the company’s new flagship. The leaked official specifications confirm the rumors of an NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset doing the heavy lifting inside the One X with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor. The second generation Super LCD of HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels) at the front measures 4.7" and is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 2.The One X should have 1GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There's no microSD slot available, but HTC will try and make up for that by providing 25GB of Dropbox online storage for two years for free.

The specs page shows GG1. Typos exist and bios hardly get edited.
Example: it was 23gb on Dropbox.

My HOX fell out of my pocket when I was changing clothes, so about 6 inches from the hardwood AT MOST. My best guess is that it landed screen down on some grit because there is one big scuff and I put my fingernail in easily and one long scratch.
I've seriously never scratched an android phone before this and I've dropped them in the past a bit.
I'm going to try some cerium oxide to possibly buff it out a bit because it's really noticeable and quite the eye soar.

NEVER buff your 6 inch hardwood with cerium oxide. Prone to chafing. Try astro glide.
I found an inch-long scratch on my screen a few days ago. No idea how it happened, as I am very careful with the phone. I hate screen protectors, but I ended up putting one on (from bestskinsever). It actually works quite well, and the screen protector made the scratch invisible, which is pretty cool.
I highly recommend bestskinsever. The body skin, and now the screen protector as well, work very well for me - couldn't be happier. Better than any case (although of course you sacrifice drop protection).

Does anyone want to post pics of the scratches on their phones? Maybe seeing the pattern in which these scratches appear can shed light on how they are caused.

HELP! Nexus S screen cracked!

I have a Nexus S (ver. i9020a) that met with the floor. There's one big crack near the bottom that kind of branches out. The entire phone is fully functioning, though I don't know what to do. The LCD itself is perfect, just the glass layer on top of it is the cracked portion. From what I've heard, the LCD is glued on tight to this layer. Is there anything I can do? I have no problem opening the phone up and repairing it myself, though I'm not sure if it's worth paying the ~$150 for a brand new LCD that I don't need. Any suggestions? Thanks .
hey, nexus s has a amoled screen, and amoled is a sandwich of lcd+touch+glass and i think you can not change only the glass
