Picked up a G2X, most likely returning to my Vibrant - T-Mobile LG G2x

I picked up a G2x earlier today at lunch time
Pros:
Phone is very fast, looks good, and has good data speeds
GPS is absolutely instantaneous, and had me within under 10ft <--- flipping awesome
Screen looks good i.e. color and brightness, very comparable to amoled
HDMI mini
Stock android is nice, very little bloatware
[*[Camera takes very good pictures + flash is nice
Cons:
Beveled glass on the front looks nice, but doesn't feel well when holding
Phone is 20% heavier than the vibrant and is noticeable
Touch sensitivity isn't the greatest
Backlight bleed isnt as bad as some others on here, but still poorer than many other lcd phones ive had
Power button should have been on the top left
Very nice phone, I think LG did a good job with it. Just doesn't suit my tastes. I would highly recommend it to anyone though, even over the Vibrant/4g. But for me its back to Vibrant, awaiting the SGS2 if it ever comes out
These pros/cons are strictly personal opinions/taste please do not spam thread yelling or telling me I am a moron, its unnecessary.

How is the HDMI port a con?

Can you expand on what you mean about the feel of the glass, and also the touch sensitivity?
Touch sensitivity on the Samsungs were very good I agree. Your finger can actually be within a millimeter or so off the screen and it will pick you up, don't even have to touch it. Is this not the case with the LG? Wonder if this is software-tweakable/hackable.

those are some pretty minimal cons you have listed if you ask me. power button should be on the left? its not that serious. different stokes for different folks I s'pouse.

Ummm... I don't know what you're talking about with screen sensitivity... once I removed the protective film, it is just as sensitive as my Captivate was. And I have less miss-types as well because it seems like they used a tighter capacitive matrix (much like the Inspire has) than the Cappy.
I don't understand how HDMI is a con.
And the beveled glass just takes some getting used to - if you hold it with your hand wrapped around just below the camera, it adds more stability.

I agree with you on the weight though. I think manufacturers should make more emphasis on keeping weight down. Don't know why you'd want to carry any more weight than necessary. The usual argument is actually *for* higher weight, which I don't get at all. Weight doesn't make something "more solid." It actually usually makes it more prone to damage. A light, plastic object is much more likely to flex, bounce, and otherwise slowly absorb impact than a heavy, metal object which will immediately transmit the full G-force of the impact inside.

They are minimal I absolutely agree, which is why I stated the list is strictly personal opinion. I dislike the power button being so close to the volume keys, it doesn't feel good. Using thumb for volume rocker my pointer finger would either hit the left side top area or the top left area. I am right handed and hardly ever use the phone with left hand so its strictly a personal thing.

Its not so much the feel of the glass, more or less the touch sensitivity. I find myself retouching the screen a lot more than I would like to

Cant explain this one honestly. Just from personal use Is easier on my Vibrant. I have also had the Vibrant since launch so it might be I am just used to it thats all.
I think how I "like" to hold it, it doesn't do so well with my hands. Maybe I have smaller hands idk lol. It feels awkward to hold comfortably

lol I wouldn't/don't expect them to redesign a phone just for me. Hence the cons/pros are personal opion/taste only. I think the Vibrant power button would have been a little nicer if it was easier to f*ing click so I agree with you on that one mostly. I cant comment on Thunderbolt since I have not held one yet, but I feel sorry for anyone who has one if its that heavy. So used to the Vibrant's weight.

I don't see how my thread is stupid. While the pros/cons may be personal taste/opinion, it doesn't make it stupid. I think the phone is a fantastic device and I would highly recommend it. I am merely giving a different review then others already have. Reviews are good to have, especially ones that are non-biased and truthful.

Agreed but I was talking in general
To the OP, I have been using a Vibrant as well since July and I don't know about you but It's a relief to actually have a working GPS. I understand you like the lightness of the Vibrant but come on. It's so light, it feels like a cheap piece of plastic.

I can not agree with you more on the GPS. I don't even bother trying to use it on my Vibrant. I will however disagree to an extent on the "cheapness" I enjoy the feel of it. I only look at the front of the phone so the back can be whatever it needs to be and I could care less. I don't need a phone to look aesthetically pleasing, or feel luxurious. For me it feels just about right. Personal taste

U might be waiting a while for the sgs2. Hence why I just ordered the g2x. The sgs4g is slow as ****, and lags like a ************. Not to mention no camera flash, no internal memory. The g2x seems like a nice piece of hardware. Cant wait til ups gets here with it tomorrow.
Side note... Anyone wanna buy my sgs4g.... Im just a **** hair out of the buyers remorse.

Vibrants lack of camera flash is a big CON for me as well. Don't even try to say night mode replaces a camera flash because it doesn't.

I will not argue that. The night mode only works better if your actually outside taking a picture of something not so close which would render the flash useless anyways. I carry a regular camera with me when I need to take good pics, so phone camera isn't all that important to me.

VZW - Bolt to Charge (Was Worth a Try!)

Good times! Just for fun I thought I'd call VZW and see if we could swap out the HTC for the Charge given all the ridiculous radio issues. I even went as far to say that the rebooting based on the new update was just the final straw. I'm at day 31 I think. As predicted they said now.
I had to play off like I had lost the phone and couldn't find it when they were asking for my software version! XDA saved the day! I logged on and said, "The 605.7 #?" haha.
I'm a little disappointed with the way this phone has been handled. This topic is probably a waste of time but I wouldn't mind seeing if others gave it a try...

What are these ridiculous radio issues you speak of? The VZ network issues would be trouble for the Charge as well.
I for one think the Thunderbolt is top notch build wise. 4g - LTE is still in it's infancy. The Charge looks to be another cheaper plastic Sammy product that I would never trade for IMHO.
The charge has a wonderful screen.. and a slightly superior battery life.. other than that... I don't think it stacks up to the TB in terms of build quality and aesthetics. I hate the chamfered corners on the bottom.. yuck!
I only have 4G coverage at my work. Regardless of radio I'm constantly cycling between 4G, 3G, Analog, and then no data. I've had to turn off 4G entirely to get any sort of reliable connection.

I have a thunderbolt and I love it. I don't understand the love for the build quality. The charge looks clean an hell and yes it uses a plastic back, but thunderbolt probably the worst build quality phone I have tried in a while. The phone feels like it was slapped together in a hurry. The whole phone squeaks all the time when I press to clean the screen, feels like the sides are going to break. The light leaking from the bottom seal, no I am not talking about looking at it from top. I dont have it but I have seen plenty of people including one of my friends have that problem.
Radio issues are all at verizon's end, you can blame big red for not getting their act together, I still dont get good 4g at my house even though I am in the dead center of coverage. I do however get great 4g everywhere else I am suppose to get 4g.
I think charge has very good build quality.
Thunderbolt a good phone but not so great build quality. Stand peeling off, Light leaking through the bottom edge, screen is not flushed against the sides, I had water get in on top while trying to install zag screen protector but it only got behind the verizon logo and didn't get on the screen.
I look at the evo, the screen looks like it blends in with the body of the phone alot better than it does with the thunderbolt. Few of my friends have it, the glass quality used on the evo looks much superior than the thunderbolt.
My Thunderbolt has none of those issues. Coming from the Atrix its a tank in the best possible way.

Man all this talk about the tb's build quality is really hard to understand for me. I love the quality and if it werent for wanting to keep my phones in good condition. I would rock it without a case to show it off. Shes a beauty.
I paid full retail for mine the day it launched and since then i have been able to sleep at night. Even with that ugly charge from a non supportive manufacturer being announced. And it does look uglier with extended battery. I didn't think it could look uglier. Coming from 4 years of RIM brainwash im more than happy with my ThunderBolt.

I've heard of a butterface before, but the Charge is an "everything butterface" of the phone world. Egads, it looks like one of those concept cars you look at and hope they never actually make.
I do hope Samsung starts making phones with excellent build quality because it will benefit us all if we have more alternatives, but until they do I don't think I'll own another one.

First 2 Days with the Sensation

Got my Sensation 2 days ago, and after the amount of *****ing I read on this forum I was a bit worried...
So here is my verdict:
The good:
- Camera issues (crashed on pic): NOPE
- Screen responsiveness issues: NOPE
- WiFi issues: NOPE
- Lag: NOPE, stop *****ing, this is more responsive than a Desire
- Great keyboard, I love the multi-language suggest
The bad:
- Reception is AWFUL. The Desire wins hands down. Nothing to do with death grip either, on the same network with Speed Test the Desire scores are double, seriously!
- The screen is a fingerprint attractor. How you do you guys clean the screen? Anyone using some antistatic coating? Can you recommend one?
I come from a Desire, compared to that this phone feels a lot better. Seriously.
To the people that said it doesn't feel like much of an update compared to the Desire: I really don't get you.

I've tried a lot of different things to clean the screen on my sensation and I've come to the conclusion that you can use a t shirt, a blanket, a napkin, a towel ect. Seriously this is the easiest screen on a touch screen phone to clean. A free rubs on my sleeve and its spotless. And with the gorilla glass you don't have to worry about scratching it. I have the AUO screen (screen manufacturer makes no difference in the gorilla glass btw) and mine is definately succeptable to fingerprints, but they are easier to wipe off than they are to acquire.
Glad to see more threads with people actually singing the phones praises and saying that not everyone suffers from these issues. So many people report problems, but very few report when everything goes fine. So as we all know this means anyone coming into the forum just sees lots of issues, it's easy to forget that it's only a few people sufering from these, and only the ones suffering seem to add to the threads that have been opened anyway.
Thanks for the good news
Coming from the dell streak, I have to say I love this phone, it is way better than the streak. Mind u if the streak had sense 3.0, then I might have a different opinion LOL.
Ok the reception has issues (random ones) but that's not that big a problem,
Love the HTC widgets, its great to see manufacturers like to have a polished interface that is very useable straight out the box. That said would be even better if they could be re-sizeable. (couldnt believe how bad stage was) its great you don't have to down load apps to get the phone the way u want it, just wish I could get a refund now on those paid ones lol
Before mine arrived I had picked up on some of the negative posts and was a bit concerned, but everything works perfect. HTC put this in a 5 incher n I'll buy one 2morrow as I miss the steaks real estate but size isn't everything lol.

[Q] Size of Infuse 4G

Hey guys, new here and just wondering what you think about the size of the infuse. I'm considering getting one, but I am worried that I won't get used to carrying such a massive phone around. I am also thinking about the captivate because it is smaller, but definitely like the infuse more except wrt every other aspect of the phone. Thanks

To me, I barely even notice the size until I hold a different phone. It just feels perfect in my hands. Its not really that much of a hassle to carry around since its so darn thin. Its not at all bulky. Fits nicely in my jeans pocket.
Sent from my Infused V² powered smartass phone yo
The infuse feels better in your hand than you would think. This is due to its extremely thin profile. I owned a Dell Streak 5 and I hated it yet it is only a 1/2 inch bigger in the screen....reason being the thickness. Go for the infuse, best phone out there!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
It totally depends on you actually. I know a some people have trouble using it with one hand, where I have no problem swyping one handed and reaching all corners of the keyboard. You should go check it out in store, and see if you can operate it one handed. If you usually use two hands and don't swype, definitely get this phone! The screen is gorgeous and watching media such as netflix streaming on it is unbelievable. Basically like having a mini HDTV that I can carry around in my pocket.
Also, I had a captivate and was very happy with the screen size...until I got my infuse that is. Haha. My dad uses my captivate still, and every time I pick it up I can't believe how small it feels and just feel like I could never go back to anything smaller than 4.5". Like others have said, the thin form factor definitely makes this phone svelte and very useable.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997R using XDA Premium App
i thought the same thing. Coming from my hd2 it wasn't a really big difference. what you will really notice is the thin profile. i found... kinda hard to grasp on to. but in the end, you will find out it is the a really good device.

I agree. It really isn't "THAT" big but the biggest problem for me is the thinness. It's so light and thin that for me it is difficult to hold on to but I have other issues such as arthritis in my hands which makes it worse. Putting it in a Bodyglove rubber case added enough surface to it to resolve that.
The screen size is absolutely perfect for me. I came from a g2x where I thought the screen was way to small. I was at the movies recently showing my girl how good Netflix looked and some random Guy asked me where I got my portable TV from.

I just made the switch from the i897 Captivate to the i997 Infuse on Monday night and I carry my device directly in my pocket and I have to say I really do not notice any difference between the two devices. Where I start to notice the difference is when it comes out of the pocket and into my hand. Definately a difference when it hits your hand and you start to use it. I had a little bit of a transition from using the Infuse with the cord plugged in (Captivate plugs in on the top, Infuse on the bottom) I thought I hated the cord on the top but not I actualy prefer it over the bottom plug scenario. When it was on top it was easier to hold in hand without the cord in the way. Now that it is there I am having to constantly adjust the way I am holding the device to accomodate this placement of the cord.
Other than that little "Inconvienience" The device is fantastic, brilliant in display...I am constantly getting the WOW factor when people see the screen and how vibrant it is. And battery life is right on par with all other devices (1/2day/12-13hrs of moderate to heavy use all day). So I would say go for it if you were on the fence or hold off a little longer and get the SGSII (pretty much the same phone but with dual core) which will be out in a month or so...or so they say.
It will be difficult to step down to a smaller screen size
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
As long as you don't death grip all the time or your hands are on the smaller end of the spectrum, the Infuse should be great.
Even with the screen being larger than other smart phones, the phone itself doesn't feel massive. Between the weight, thinness and just overall dimensions; this is a great phone. Compare to a Captivate or a Vibrant, there is no inconvenience that I've seen. If anything, you get a larger screen with better resolution and more capability. Development is building for the phone as well.
Overall, I don't think you will be disappointed with this phone. I have nothing but good things to say about it.
Way, way too big.
It is literally impossible to hold it with one hand and drag the notifications down.
With the same 480x800 resolution you don't get more screen real estate than a Captivate, just everything is bigger and pixelated.
Sent from my Infuse 4G
Mikey is just angry because people started asking him if he was compensating for something. =P
Just messing with you. I personally haven't seen the pixelation issue, but maybe I'm just overlooking it.
I would definitely have to agree that it isn't a phone that's super easy to manipulate with one hand, but at the same time I haven't really had any issues. I think it just takes some adjustment coming from a smaller phone.
One thing I forgot to mention earlier, is that I'm much happier with the GPS on this phone than the previous generation Galaxy S models(i.e. Vibrant, Captivate and Fascinate). I know that isn't really size related, but it's definitely an improvement.
Ok Thanks everybody. I think I'm gonna go with the Infuse. 1 other quick question. Does it's thinness and size make it more fragile? I would put a case and screen protector on it, but is the screen breaking going to be an issue? Thanks

The GPS on the Infuse is nice. Not as good as a real GPS or my Xoom was, but nice.
I have yet to try tracking but it locks on faster indoors than the Captivate could floating in space next to the satellites.

MT4GS for sale

not sure if there is a better place for this.
Anyway, due to an odd billing/RMA issue, i am left with a new unopened MT4GS.
If you are interested in it please let me know.
I can link you to my eBay/confirmed PayPal account ect.
I figured I would try here to avoid paying eBay a huge cut

Lol. If he was crazy and rich, I don't see why not, but times are hard. I don't think lowballing is nice =D.

True
I'ts a good phone and deserves a good price. It's too bad we can't start a raffle; that could be fun.
You should post this in the xda market. Trying to sell a slide to people who already have a slide won't get you very far. There might be people willing to trade as well

i wish i could give it away, but as another poster noted, this isn't the economic climate to give away a high end phone like that.
i will try posting it in marketplace per the advice here

I heard some tech sites calling this a superphone. It is a shame that this phone didn't get as much time in the spotlight as some others did. I think people assume it is lower end because of the smaller screen compared to the others, but that assumption is wrong. This is a high end phone.

Definitely a high end phone. Top of the line specs, the best camera available, great screen. I honestly think it did not become a "flagship" phone because of the keyboard. I feel that many consumers favor a smaller form factor over a keyboard. A shame, but what are you gonna do about it?
Only two things IMO that are bad about this phone. One, the battery cover is slightly oversized in some places which caused it to squeak while typing. This happened to two phones. I fixed this by throwing some tape on the battery. Minor issue, but come on, HTC...
Two, the screen is not gorilla glass. I dropped it from like a foot off the ground on some concrete... I know I know, even gorilla glass might be scratched... but there were legitimate gouges on the screen. Trenches, almost. My mt4g would probably barely even show anything. Again, come on, HTC. Ended up sending that in for a warranty though. Point is, be super careful with this screen. Always wear (screen) protection!

Totally agreed. I have a scratch on my screen. The metal bezel must be the softest metal on earth...
I also have dust under my screen... What you guys think? Exchange for sure right?
300 bucks, i could always use another one of these!

The chin...

Does anyone LIKE the size of the chin? I found myself instantly pleased with the added area to handle my phone. I actually left the sim in my 5x for a while to be sure. But I've never noticed how much I use the top and bottom bezels in portrait view. Especially when. Showing someone pictures or portrait videos. I dunno... I'm loving it. Perfect size where my thumbs never bumps the touchscreen.
Am I the only one?
I have no problem with it either. Take a look at the iPhone 6, which I have, and the bezel is about the same size as the Pixel. Actually the whole phone looks similar with a very similar feel. The Pixel is a little larger screen dimension wise but both are beautiful devices. And let's be honest here, if you can compare to an iPhone you're saying something. This device is a jewel if the battery can hold up.
I just got my Pixel today, and I wish the chin was a bit smaller to be honest. The onscreen buttons take up a good chunk of space that I feel makes it look a bit...iPodish? That's for sure not an accurate assessment, but it is what I think when I look at the chin of the phone especially. Like I said, first day and all. I love everything else about this phone though. I even think the price is justifiable.
I actually like the chin too. I find it helps my thumb reach the home button much more comfortably when using it one handed, rather than over extending my thumb to reach the bottom of my phone.
Plus it gives the phone a very minimal/elegant look. So no complaints from me!
No complaints here! Keeps the phone looking balanced

Yes same here... While at first I thought it was huge and unsightly, when I think about it, I wouldn't want my thumb to have to reach any further down to get to the nav bar. It keeps the nav bar at a perfect height. Still seems kind of boring though. But I'm also glad they didn't put any branding there so kind of a conundrum for me.
Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
I dont mind the bottom too. It's not super noticeable and I agree that it makes the nav bar easier to reach.
I just wish people would stop calling it a "chin" - it's a bezel, not a chin. Look at the original G1 for a "chin".

Totally... A lot of people seem to want this phone to be the opposite of iPhone. But we already had that... The Nexus lineup. Sure some were better than others but they were never trying to compete with anyone directly. Just good enough with a great price.

Just got mine last night. And I honestly looked at it and said 'why is everyone complaining about the chin?' to my girlfriend.
I agree, I am totally satisfied with the price now that the phone is in hand. Speed/Feel is amazing.

I never noticed that the home button was more comfortable on the Pixel until I used my 5X and Pixel side by side.. thanks for pointing that out! Of course I can't say much about the XL cause I didn't get that one.

HAH. I've been Androiding since the G1... and yea, that thing had a Joe Swanson Chin for real.
I just joined the chin lingo cause everyone else seemed to be doing it... Peer pressure!
this is #13 of a long list of reasons i'm returning the Pixel. this phone makes so little sense to me i cannot even wrap my head around it, probably because i don't talk TO my damn phone. leave the AI for the kiddos. going back to my ****ing galaxy S3. maybe HTC 10 after that. dunno.
Now that I have my phone, in person, I don't mind it. I prefer balance/symmetry and the chin provides that. I would prefer a speaker there instead, but oh well …
The chin I actually don't notice. Maybe it's because I have the 5' black version. To me, the chin makes it better for one handed use. The galaxy s7 was hard for one handed use for me anyway. I think the chin thing is really blown out of proportion. Just my two cents.
In theory I'd like to see a smaller chin/ bezel and increase the screen size while keeping the overall size the same.
In practice, I don't mind the chin. I don't notice it at all.
I hear y'all but that Jay Leno chin and fivhead are fails to me. I do appreciate all the reasons why you like them but the could have put like 8 speakers in that space. Subs, tweeters and all that! Still love the phone though.

Looks weird I'd rather have it to help with holding the phone and keeping the navbar at a decent height

The bottom bezel adds balance, symmetry and consistency to the device.
I am still upset it gave up the speaker grill. But sure look uber minimalistic.

Totally agree with both of you. I think it really adds the balance. When I saw it at first I wondered, but once I used it I don't mind a bit. I use headphones so I dont care about huge speakers.
Coming from the BB Z30 I am use to the chin and prefer it becuase of the way I hold the phone and navigate with my thumb. Now if only google would pick up a bb 10 device and take down some notes. Like moving things down low so I dont have to stretch my hand to the top.

Same here, I only use my phones one-handed, whether it's the Pixel, Notes, iPhone 7+, etc. The extra space is where my palm digs into. The BlackBerry Classic is the only device I have to use two hands, but da*n, that physical keyboard is sooo worth it.
