Android 1.6: Install Android 1.6 on a HTC Dream / G1
located here: upgrade.android.32teeth.org [ i don't have privelages to post links yet ]

i am currently putting on together for the eve. need to get the steps down rock solid before i post.
as per the touch, i don't have one, so until i can get my hands on one it's not likely i will be able to create a tutorial
Holy crap!!!! Looks good! I might actually go home and play with the old G1 tonight! That is one slick looking tutorial! I'm guessing (stab in the dark, really) that you do this kind of graphics and instructional design thing for a living...
Good work!

i actually work as a middleware developer, but i have some photochopping in there as i work with alot of visual designers who deploy GUIs
I will be getting one of these in about two weeks. I had to actually pick up my Christmas from my parents and then sadly hand it to them so that they could make me wait...
So, my question to the forum is this... What are the necessary flash(es) to get this going right away. Based on what I've read, I fully intend to do next to nothing with this before flashing away the crappy TnT stuff. Just trying to get an idea of what all should be done... I've read about the Tegra drivers, some custom ROMs out there, is there is a very simple -- 1. this 2. that 3. other
I've been anxiously following the work on the Vega work, it looks very promising. I'm not necessarily looking for instructions on how to flash; I'm fairly comfortable and haven't owned an Android phone that I didn't like to mod. Just looking to pull together some various topics into a "How to make this sweet right away" list.
Thanks for all the help!
[ed] Maybe rephrase the question... If you folks "in the know" got a new one out of the box, what would you do (and in what order if there are dependencies) to make this a nice, stable, quick machine? Thanks again!!
My plan is to have everything on a micro-SD all ready to go as I travel to my parents so I can open it and start fixing
My first suggestion to you would be to continue what you already are doing -- read, read, read.
I did a thread up higher on it being "Worth It" to play with the G-Tablet. There are some suggestions in there on software and things to do now.
But there are numerous threads where people outline what they have done. Those should be a big help.
Good luck and Merry Christmas!!

My GTab video blog is up and running... I have about 5 or 6 videos so far... the first 3 are the basic clockwork mod rooting, flashing a rom (Vegan 5.1) and flash/market fix. I also did one showing the hulu fix... and I will be posting a new one soon on getting swype running on the GTab.
I have plans to do Rom reviews, apps, and games in the future.
Short quick videos... all in one place.. with XDA forum links to follow.
If you have any suggestions... any good tutorials from the forums that you want me to made a video for... Please visit the blog and let me know!

F-Yes! Thank you for your contribution. If there was an epic button I would mash it so hard.

Nice I bookmarked it. Thanks and I like the site design. Well done!
Thery useful video blog. Thanks!
Sweet, i'm getting my GTAB tomorrow so I'll definitely be checking out your site.
very nice!
Thanks
Thanks for adding to the mix.....
Outstanding! Thanks for the extra work, I'm sure many of us will benefit from it.
I plan to follow advice found on XDA and do the following:
1) Open and run the device stock for a bit.
2) Do the OTA update and evaluate. I may be purchasing one for my mother and I think the updated stock will be plenty for her to check email, do facebook and check the weather?
3) Look at Vegan 5.1 and Supplement as well as Clemsyn's kernel.
4) Look at TNT
5) Have fun with it!
Nice blog. My gTab should be coming in tomorrow so get to play around with it.
I'm a stickler for written directions, but a video to follow is even better! Great work!
Suggestion: Any chance of getting a vid up with setting up nvflash, getting the tab in apx mode, possibly pulling/pushing files from/to the tablet?
Thanks again!
You all rock... thanks for the kudos!!!!
@Dueces99: NVFlash is my only hurdle right now... I consider myself tech savvy but for some reason, I couldn't figure that one out... YET... I'm sure I just need to do some more research, but if anyone knows the best how-to on that I would really appreciate it... because lets face it... the Viewsonic Birds have to go... I've seen that logo over a decade ago...
Thanks again everyone... pass on the good word and I'll keep posting videos!!!!
I just checked out the site. Looks great, good work.
Very nice!
Before I say anything, you know that your site is awesome and that you are awesome.
That said, you're no Steve Jobs. When Steve Jobs first presented the ipad in his conference, you could tell from the videos that he tried very hard to present the strengths and cover up the weaknesses. For instance, everytime he pressed a soft button, he always gave it about half a second for the ipad to respond. In your video, I noticed that you kept pressing it really fast and then having to repress the screen.
Yes, your videos are awesome. But if I were you I wouldn't quit my day job to become a salesman LOL
Excellent site- thank you for your hard work
hahaha!

Very true... This is just a hobby and I do every video in one take... Its more about function over form... I'm sure I spent more time on the logo and intro music than I did the composure of the videos... but for what its worth, I will try to rehears a little more so I don't look entirely like a noob!
When my Gtab comes in tomorrow, your site will be on my list of 'have to learn from'. Thanks, my man!!!
Very nice work, thank you!
Gotcha bookmarked.

I'm looking to get a magazine subscription. It would optimally have a lot of talk about technology, primarily computers, and be very expansive on its subjects. I'm looking for something that's not just a bunch of product reviews, but instead gets into the nitty gritty of things like 'How does 4G work?' or 'What is the history behind the UNIX operating system?', and still tries to stay interesting.
I've looked at PC World, and that's just an idiot's guide to Windows. MaximumPC is slightly better, but still mostly just reviews. I would even be willing to subscribe to a journal I suppose, if it wasn't to the technical extreme. Online reads are fine too, as long as they're not your typical review-laden blog like engadget and such.
Any recommendations? I'm very open to suggestions. Thanks.

Hey guys, being a big android fan, I thought I should give application development a try. And I came up with a new application using some online tutorials. Though its not that perfect, kindly let me know how it looks and it would be my pleasure to take your advice. Also some rating would help me very much.
Thanks a lot!

Really nice and simple design! Love it!
