[Q] Wifi Problem ? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone having a problem connecting to there wifi, mine just refuses to work. I tried tethering via my phone and that worked ok but it won't work with my router for some unknown reason. It authenticates and actually says its connected but no webpages will work and I can't connect to a google account.
Any idea's ?

Same with mine.
Create a static connection:Eg.
Choose static rather than DHCP.
Address:
192.168.1.xxxxx(some free address on your network)
Gateway (Or whatever the field is called): Make sure it connects to whatever your router is set at
eg.
192.168.1.254
Dns - Doesn't seem to matter. I put
8.8.4.4
With a bit of experimenting that should work. Is yours a BeBox by any chance?

Yep bloody bebox lol, do you post on avforums ?.

Yup. I do indeed. Did you get it working in the end?
I hope they fix this - If I want to connect to a wifi network on holiday and it plays up like this I won't want to have to find out the gateway address first!

Captivate Wifi/3G data issue

Has anyone had a problem with the Captivate when in both WIFI and 3G coverage the phone will not download or open a webpage? If I shut off one or the other it works but if both are active it hangs up and doesnt download.
Is this by chance on an enterprise wifi access point? Such as one of those expensive cisco APs you find in schools and enterprise class networks? If so, there is currently a driver problem with the captivate connecting to it, but not trasnfering data. Whether the netwrok is encrypted or open doesnt seems to matter. Personally, I find this a bigger problem than the GPS issue. I had to use wifi static to manually set IP, subnet, etc. This is a workaround, not a fix.

Hey, I think I'm running into this issue at my workplace (we definitely use those Cisco APs, I see them all around). I'm connected, I have an IP, but I can't browse anywhere.
Here's the weird thing though: I can connect to the company's wifi in any other building (I guess different APs?) than the one I'm in and wifi works fine. It's just the building my cubicle's in that doesn't work and it's infuriating!
well thats dumb.
I had that happen once since I bought the phone on launch. I restarted my phone and it went away.
I've had this problem as well, usually my phone switches to only wifi pretty quickly though, so I don't notice much. The phone acts like it is using the 3G connection because the arrows are both indicating data coming and going, but nothing actually happens unless only one or the other is on.
i need to check this at more places but at home i have a standard dlink dl-624 router with no security over comcast. i think my issue initially was because of the wifi sleep policy (see below) but now i am just getting really really slow speeds. pages seem to load slower than 3G....(i mean really cinemaxHD is showing last of the mohicans in pan and scan)....also the pages time out very very frequently.....
Anyone having problems check out the advanced setting for wifi. The phone has a WIFI sleep policy. my default setting was to disconnect from wifi after the screen locks. my screen locks after 30 seconds. so basically it always looking for my network. you can change it to never.
I want to reiterate our findings again. There are multiple threads on other forums concerning this as well. When it comes to wifi, the captivate has a major problem. DHCP does not work on enterprise networks. Period. It is a driver issue. The network can be open or using any form of encryption, the results are thr same. I had numerous software, hardware and network analyst tackling this issue all week in my department. It is related in part to most enterprise networks not using a default subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. There is a workaround, but it is not a fix. You can either set a static from your static pool of ip's in wifi settings, or, if u connect to multiple networks, use wifi static from the market to remember and apply seperate static configs accross multiple networks which is what were having to do currently. This affects all captivates, one which we consider a major problem with deploying this phone to our other users.

I had the same problem and this is how a turn around the problem when I'm connected but cannot browse.
-Use Wifi Static
- DNS from google 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4
- switch to airplane mode
- activate wifi
- test my conection (open the browser and surf)
- switch to phone mode
Hope it help

Did this, Wifi Static was being used previously to bypass dhcp, and it correctly assigned the IP settings, used the static I assigned from our static pool of addresses. Still no data transfer over Cisco APs at work.

are you able to access a website thru his IP address? in this case it's a DNS problem, try the Google DNS 8.8.8.8 - 8.8.4.4

Its hit or miss really, seems the wifi radio stack locks up and stops responding according to our trace logs. yes i have tried both our internal DNS server's as well as googles. Everywhere else works perfectly. But at work with our Cisco open (no security) APs, it doesnt work most of the time. Through whos ip address??? I have a static set from our static pool to make sure dhcp was not the culprit. Its def the device, and not my netwrok. I have over 100 of these APs deployed here.
Wifi works great everywhere else (at home with WPA2, etc). There is def a problem with enterprise cisco APs.
Netmask issue and cisco AP's
Posted this over in development thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7698066&postcount=410
Make sure your netmask is correct.
Thanks jhannaman82
I just wanted to give a big thanks to jhannaman82 for posting his company's findings with these wifi issues. My wifi works 100% at home on my linksys tomato router (of course, with a netmask 255.255.255.0). But on my college campus they use an enterprise router setup with 255.255.0.0 and I have been going NUTS trying to figure out if it is my captivate or the network.
I can sometimes get a few minutes of working connection, but it always seems to crap out within 1 or 2 minutes.
I will attempt to fiddle around with switching the dhcp to static IP, and will post my results. Thanks!
edit: no luck with static IP fiddling so far. from my laptop (connected wirelessly), I gathered that the netmask is actually 255.255.248.0... when I set my captivate's netmask to anything other than 255.255.0.0, it does not connect. It says "connected" when I set the netmask to 255.255.0.0, but as usual no data will transfer (it seems). I'm at a loss. *shrug* Hopefully there's a driver update or something.
Thanks jhannaman82!
I just wrote a script with the GScript app: "ifconfig eth0 netmask 255.255.255.0", and have a shortcut on homescreen. The problem was that the netmask was wrongly set to 255.255.0.0 on my office wifi. Now all I need to do is tap on this shortcut at office, and the connection works!
Has anyone contacted Samsung about this ?
I'm hoping this gets fixed soon... This refuses to stay connected at my school. Huge pain.
I entered in an IP address and 255.255.252.0 for my netmask after seeing what it was on my computer and turn on flight mode and tested the wifi and now it's working. I'm not sure if it's just one of those fluke connections that I get... but we'll see.

Wi-fi bug?

I had issues today connecting the Inspire to my home Wi-fi.
Initially I had my Wi-fi setup to not broadcast the SID. When I add the network to the phone it is listed as "Not in Range".
As soon as I change the router to broadcast the SID, the phone connects as expected.
Anyone have any insights? Anyone able to confirm?
--wookiefoot
I also hide my SID on my router and my Inspire connects just fine.
Try rebooting your router? I had an issue the other week where my Captivate wouldn't get an IP address from my router, but I just rebooted the router and it worked fine after that. I figured it was just a glitch.

nah but ill try it
Make sure the IP its trying to connect to isn't in use by another device.
Wifi settings on my end, WPA2-PSK security type
Connected to the 802.11n router fine.

I'll give the router reboot a try. Seems odd that I can toggle SID visibility on/off and watch the phone disconnect and connect based on that.
My temp fix was to leave SID visible then lock down MAC filtering. Not very convenient when new devices need to connect though.
Will update with results in a bit.
Sounds more like a DHCP issue rather than a SID issue. Check your DHCP settings. That is where it gets the IP address from. You could also give it a static IP or create a reservation for it so it forces the IP. Good luck.

Setup DHCP Reservation for the phone. Still no luck. As soon as I switch the visibility of the SID, the phone disconnects and lists the network as "Not in Range".
Not doing anything special with security:
Mode: WPA-Personal
WPA Mode: Auto (WPA or WPA2)
Cipher Type: TKIP and AES
FYI - router reboot didn't resolve the issue either. (Model: D-link 655)
Any other thoughts?

[Q] wifi problem-connected but unable to access webpage

Here is the problem: i can connect my sensation to the wifi network and the system shows that the connection is successful. But i can't access to any internet services, such as web pages. One thing is for sure: the wife network is OK and i used to surf online with anther phone by the same wifi network. I would appreciate it if anyone respond to this thread.

No,because the routers is beyond my control. I'm sure that wifi is ok and i can access the webpage by another device without doing anything. Certainly i need to input the password.
And thank you for your reply.

I'm amazed at your knowledge of wireless technologies but please explain me why is it a router issue if 2 of my laptops, 2 towers and 2 of my phones (along with multiple guests' phones) have no problem accessing content on my wireless network but my Sensation throws a fit every time it's I try to connect?
Thank you in advance.

well all the routers have config options..... they transmit wireless in a particular ip range depending upon the configuration... ur devices have enrolled themselves on all possible empty slots in ip range and sensation is not able to coz it must b out of the ip range now...possibly u must have used many wireless devices but even after u disable them the temp ip auto assigned stays... so except for new devices old ones will never have problem.... jst disable dhcp in config page of router and enable nat.....if it does nt work add me on gtalk [email protected] and i'll configure ur router via team viewer....

MyCloud/Splashtop = Outside Home Network?

Can I use 3G or say my schools wi-fi to access my home computer?
If you're tethering from 3G, just make sure you portforward your router, and just put your external ip in the settings. Google ipchicken to find out your external ip.
Interesting.
But any idea how do I make my IP fixed?
It seems that the external IP changes whenever I make a new tether connection.
BTW, which port should I forward through?m My 2wire router ask only for the tcp/udp port for forwarding, it does not require me to key in any IP address.
Can you advice?
thanks.

To work around the dynamic external IP address you can set up a free account at DynDNS:
http://dyn.com/dns/dyndns-free/
The above link will set up a hostname for your IP address and when it changes, DynDNS will automatically update.
To forward the correct ports, go to the website below and choose the router model you have and then select "Splashtop Remote" from the list after that. (You'll get redirected to an AD, just click skip ad at the top right of the page)
http://portforward.com/
If you already know how to forward the ports, they are 6783 to 6785, both TCP & UDP
Splashtop can sign into a Google account and find itself regardless of networks. I've had no troubles hitting my computer from miles away using that method. Being said I nixed my loud and bought splashtop HD, easily with the money.

This is the best method, and easiest. I used my above solution when it wouldn't work with my Gmail account. But I already had DYNDNS set up for my media server so I only had to forward the ports.
Sent from my I897 using XDA App
Just a note/caveat they are correct that, no matter what, you are going to need to make sure your route is setup to make your computer connectable on those ports. Otherwise its just going to block the traffic thinking its malicious.
I have run into connectivity errors on some networks because they also block traffic on non-common ports, so if you occasionally cant find yourself that could be it.
thank guys!!
very infomative!
I tried everything.
I forwarded ports on my router.
Disabled my firewalls.
Changed to Static IP on my computer, then router, then both.
Made sure the ip was outside DCHP range.
Rebooted after every change.
Tried DynDNS, but I must be stupid because there's no way to enter a host address in splashtop.
Tried using external programs to set a static internal ip.
Set Splashtop to external/internal IP.
I don't know what the hell it is, but I just can't get this nonsense to work. I don't understand what's so easy about this for some people. I have comcast cable modem attached to n300v3 router over WAN, and nothing I try works. Been at this for 3 days. Time I quit.
Are you doing the google account link? That, along with making the ports pass through on my router, was all I did. Seriously, that is is. Comcast/xfinity with a belkin wifi router.

[Q] O3D + WiFi doesn't connect to the internet?

This is a strange one, because it used to do it and nothing has changed.
The WiFi can obtain an IP from the router, it can connect to my PC via the router.... but it just cant connect to the internet via the router?
If I disconnect the WiFi and just use data, everything that has been waiting comes flying through!
Any ideas what is going wrong, the phone says it's connected, but I could swear my WiFi symbol used to go green, but it is just staying white.
Running 21E OS.
TIA.
Couldn't really understand (no offence) but if this happens to me I usually just restart my router and it would work again.

Yeah I do have a Netgear wireless, I left everything off all night but no joy... I will try your channel change thing and see if that works. It's strange because it used to work and i haven't changed anything that I am aware of and the PC has no problem. But obviously nothing is being sent to the Cisco CM. Hmmm....
Thanks for the input guys. :good:
Sorry OptimusTM, it probably was a bit garbled in my original post.... basically the PC gets to the internet (probably like most folks here) by contacting the wireless, then the wireless contacts the cable modem then it goes to the internet.
However my O3D can contact the wireless, but the wireless doesn't seem to contact the cable modem for some reason, however it will contact the PC.
The phone says it's connected to the wireless. It has been given it's IP address.
Check your DNS server address.
Put manually 8.8.8.8 and tell us if it works.

Still no idea why it had such a dizzy turn in the first place though!?!? :silly:
