Full Bars ≠ Great Service - Thunderbolt General

Exactly what it says people, I see a lot of people in threads talking about they have full bars and don't understand why data is slow/calls being spotty/etc.
If you want to check your actual signal strength go to Menu>Settings>About Phone>Network there you will see your signal strength. The lower the number the better your signal. Over 100 dBm and thats when you will start to have spotty reception and higher battery drain as the phone may struggle to maintain a constant working signal. So if you are having battery problems, check your signal strength, that may be the reason.

well i don't know for anyone else,
but I had a decent connection over 4G pulling 10-12 down consistently at my house, with usually -82 or so.
then I noticed that 4G was really spotty out of nowhere, and I went and got my phone exchanged today, and same issue still. I also noticed that my signal changed from -82 to -95 or so. Only thing that has changed on my phone, is PRL from 15008 to 15011.
I am going to call verizon tomorrow and see if a tower is down maybe, but if not, then maybe PRL affects this, as like i said, that is the only change I can find, and I don't loose 4G at work, which is 15 mins north of where I live.

Speakeasy.net - Speedtest

Is it must me or did anyone else try the speedtest on speakeasy.net and have ridiculous #'s today? Usually on the servers that I use most often I will see about 15-20 download and 2-2.5 upload. Today I was seeing mid to upper 20's consistently on download and 3-3.5 on upload. One server showed download of 38 with an upload of 4. That is way too high. Something seems off.
No. That's not way off. That's more like reality, not those low numbers you're used to.
Damn thats quick! I'm on gingeritis 3D with the newest radios. Maybe that is the reason. I'd be very happy if it stayed like that. I'm just outside of Pittsburgh. Maybe its because I have a better signal at my work. I have all bars showing at work and at home I only have 2 bars showing most of the time. I was actually shocked when the #'s jumped up like that.
I've seen mine bench over 44Mbits before. Up in the 30's is pretty common, no matter what speed tests might say. If you download a nice healthy file like a ROM and you see how long it actually takes to download, the speeds SpeakEasy and Speedtest can't be right. You're never going to download 100Mbytes a minute at 10 or 12 Mbit. It's gotta be 2 or 3 times that fast.
All normal:

please take a look the mobile network signals.!!!!!!!!
i never change the radio, so i think it is not the radio problem. anyone analysis is it becasue roms? or most possible due to the kernel ?? or may be apps?
i use nexus 5.04
thanks .
I had the same issue after changing carrier and at home. I solved it by using a RAT unlocked rogers modem and picking up a specific band, in my case wcdma 850.
I happened mostly after waking up but my guess is it was just showing it when waking up, my gf always complained she had to call 3 times before it will get to me and not to voice mail.
So you can't get a call while the phone is sleeping?
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda premium
As I said i fixed it by setting up a specific band and letting the phone decide which band.
I could get calls while it was sleeping but the reception was spiking so sometimes it would just go to voice mail.

Having a DATA sim causes battery to drain very fast (Cell Standby)

I made a previous thread where I tried to force LTE to solve my Cell Standby issue. In the end I couldn't figure out a way to do this on a non-rooted phone.
Until recently I found an app Network Mode that allowed me to select "LTE only" which I thought would solve the problem of my phone wasting his battery to finding a GSM connection (which I guess the problem is).
Cell Standby is currently still on the top with usage, but it dropped from 70-85% to 50%.
But I want it to drop more, is there anything else I can do to test to find what causes him to use this much battery, and possibly disable it?
PS. I don't have this problem when I put my Belgian SIM in my phone which isn't limited to internet data.

Bump
I tried to contact Google, they sent me to Samsung. Samsung said it's a stock android problem so sent me back, placed the bug on their bug system but no response yet. Anything I can try myself while waiting?
Last bump, I promise. I'm stuck between two companies and my phone can't survive a day.

GS7 call quality

Does anyone know if the GS7 handles weak signals as good as the G6? I used to have a GS7 and bought a refurbished one again for Verizon but it seems like the signal strength isn't as good. it goes from 0-2 bars and HD voice sounds muddy. Is my phone bad or is the GS7 not as good as the G6 with signal strength. I never had signal issues with my G6 in my house. I am trying to figure out if i need to send my phone back to the seller.
Here's my signal strength. Does this look normal for the GS7?

I notice if I toggle flight mode on and off or pull the sim card out the signal gets real good for awhile but then after a few minutes it starts dropping off and not being stable again. even going to Extended Network. Is my phone bad? do i need to send it back. can someone please help me? Also notice now twice i get the circle sign with a line through it then the network slowly comes back up.

Android Slow LTE - 18Mbps Down but 42Mbps up??

I have a Samsung S8 Active and I'm getting incredible upload speeds but average download.
I'm on the largest and fastest mobile carrier here in Australia, anyone got any ideas what might be causing this? Always thought DL should be the same or faster than UL?

Weird thing is you can see the download speed spikes quite high, then it just plummets.
On a similar issue in a different location I had my mate who is on the same network carrier sit next to me at a shop. We both ran a speedtest, he has a Google Pixel 2 (on specs the phones are almost identical, mine should be slightly faster). His hit 100Mbps+ for download while mine only hit 52Mbps.
double-post
So just to bump I've discovered that Carrier Aggregation is enabled on the Samsung G892A but it never connects it is always showing in the Service menu as CA: Not-Config so it is enabled but not connected even though the local carrier allows CA/VoLTE/VoWifi.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get these working?
