So, BB Playbook supposedly has "flawless" Video playback - General Topics

I'm hearing that the BB Playbook has flawless 720P Playback and also can handle 1080P vid's. I'm so interested to know if this can handle High Profile unlike the Tegra2..

No it is not flawless. In fact, flash on Playbook is crappy compared to the one on xoom.

HD video recording?

Will the nexus s ever receive an update from Google to allow it to capture 720p videos?

Honestly HD video recording sucks on phones and the nexus s can't support it.

who cares about HD, let's worry about the crappy frame rate it gets right now.. the videos look like jello and it's choppy. I recorded side by side with nexus one and N1 doesn't have the same problem.
I believe the consensus is that the limitation to 480p video recording is based on hardware not software and as such can never be lifted. I'm not really bothered though, my phone is a phone first, a browser second, a PMP third (thanks to the VooDoo sound mod and SuperCurio) and everything else last.
It's limited by software, not hardware. Else we'd have a class-action suit for false advertisement.

Is that because the Galaxy S phones can do 720p? Our hardware isn't theirs. We have a lot of different parts.

Again - where has Google ever advertised that the Nexus S is 720p capable or that it will ever be provided? It's certainly not on the tech specs page: http://www.google.com/nexus/tech-specs.html#
or on Best Buy's page

Feel free to file a class action suit, but I'm going to guess that it will get summarily dismissed.
Swetland has come forward and stated that the Nexus S lacks the extra hardware processing components due to lack of room on the PCB that was required for the SGS to do 720p.

Is VIdeo Capture 480p choice due to WebM codec limitations on this SoC? software compressor Maybe?

clock rate limitation of the SoC. Galaxy uses an external image processing part as a work around. Not enough PCB space in N.S.

I'm not entirely sure where everyone is getting the impression that 1.) the Nexus S does 720p OOTB or 2.) It will be provided in an update by Google. #1 is decidedly false and #2 is unlikely at best given the information we have.
You may eventually see an implementation (software solution) similar to that of the Nexus One (720p @ ~ 24fps IIRC), but don't expect it to be official.
Whether you want to believe it or not, that page used to say 720p. I remember linking the spec page chatting with my brother about 720p being listed but not usable.

Video settings

Can someone recommend best video formats and settings for the thunderbolt. Will it play MP4's quicktimes, or does it have a proprietary format.
Thanks.

Most mp4s should play fine on the TBolt. I've been converting most of my dvds with Handbrake using the iphone/touch profile for use on my Roku box via Roksbox. I only have a standard def TV so I chose the iphone rather than the Apple TV format to keep the file size down. Those video play perfectly and look great on my TBolt. The mongoose server Roksbox uses allows me to play them straight off my network too. Doesn't work well over 3G, but I should be getting 4G this year where I live.

Netflix through HDMI

The Netflix apparently works great on my g2x,so I tried using HDMI to my 720p TV and it comes out crappy video quality. Dual video on the phone and TV, phone looks great. The TV looks pixelated and stretched.
Anyone have a solution?

1080p playback

The title says it all, I saw on Motorola Developer site that it's able, but when I try running one, it doesn't work! Is it a bug, or only me?

You're gonna have to be a little more specific when you say 1080p playback...
Download tube mate, download a 1080p video, try running on your device

The point is 1080p is very vague. What video format, container, etc?
Historically, the xoom has always had issues playing high profile h264 content. The container doesn't really matter. Using known software decoders provides low framerate playback at best. Its likely we'll have to wait for next gen hardware to get some decent high profile playback.

Streaming flash video skips frames

I've been disappointed with flash video streaming on the 7.0 plus. It frequently skips frames and is choppy even with a very solid wifi signal. Some (adult) sites are worse than others. For comparison, my 0.8gz, 512 ram single core nook color can be tweaked to outperform the T7+. My DROID bionic phone blows it away in this performance area. Is there anything I can do? Are any of the other apps in the market capable of streaming flash any better. I've also heard flash and honeycomb don't like each other, is that the case? I really don't want to have to try to root and mess with voltage and cpu settings, because im not that savvy. Any help greatly appreciated.
