Best e-reader for pdf books? - General Questions and Answers

Is it possible to read pdf books in a e reader? If so, which e reader is best for reading pdfs. I have some pdfs of books that I would like to read on my phone using an e reader. I can use adobe acrobat but I have to zoom in and zoom out which is a pain in the butt.
Thanks.
p.s. Im not sure if these pdfs are specially made for e-readers. I would love to have an e-reader which can conveniently display normally created pdf books as well.

I had this issue when i was using a small screen windows mobile phone. My fix was to convert the PDF to text. That way it was more easy to view. Then i would create a .epub file that most e readers use, (with the exception of the ones who need to feel special) this way pages get formatted to a small screen and are a bit easier to read then the pdf.
Also this site may help

Try ezpdf from market.

So I convert my pdf and then view them in Google reader or kindle reader etc??

yes, use a converter and you can view it in Google reader which has worked pretty well for me

How do you open it in Google Books. I cant seem to find where it stores e books.

depends if they are text based or image based pdf's. Also if they are technical books (i.e. containing diagrams etc) then it can be problematic.
Most readers try and do a re-flow and don't display high-image content well. Some readers also allow image/reflow choice which solves that problem.
If its just text based books then the world is your oyster and choices are massive. If not then there are less.

Try setting
try the reflow (in foxit reader) or similiar function in the pdf reader. u can read well

I wanted to ask how do I open a pub file in google books?

If I can recall a .pub file is embedded with something that makes it unique to a specific reader. Such as nook or kindle readers.
I know that in order for me to get a book into a reader I usually have to find the default folder and just copy the book over. Try to find a folder that says something gbooks or Google books, open it and see if it has some of your downloaded books in it. If it does just paste your books here, trial and error works for finding which file types are recognized.
Smells like WINNING from my T-959 xda premium app

thanks for the info!

Out of curiosity, what formats does this reader support? Not that it matters too much, I really can't see it being a patch on Allreader+ which is the best mobile ebook reader I have used bar perhaps Stanza.

ePub, the HTC reader supports the ePub format (don't know if it supports other formats as well). As of now only Freda supports this format. In addition, the HTC eReader support DRM protected ePub books (I have to test this out yet, but the device can be activated using the adobe server)
ebup and plain text both work, haven't tried anything else yet. Just have to access them via file manager, so I asecond the original question.

I second that also, but I think we just have to wait till someone is going to write a program for this. At this moment, there's a little work-around described here. This works very well, but is a bit cumbersome.
BTW, there is some interfacing possible with Adobe Digital Editions. When there is a active sync connection, one can activate the HD2 with this PC program and there is a possibility to copy books to the HD2. However the books copied to the device don't show up in the ereader tab.
On the 2.05 test rom there was a directory "Program Files/HTC Reader" in which there was a subdirectory "manifest". This name is also used by Adobe Digital Edition for its library.
(Not that this is of any use right now, but maybe someone can figure out how the HTC reader interfaces with Adobe Dig. Ed or for that matter, any other pc reader/manager)
btw http://www.epubbooks.com/books has many many free epub books.

it wont do this automagically. There's a database which holds all the books, unfortunately there's no tool available on WM to add new books.
I'll publish one soon.
EDIT: wont publish mine, as one has already been published.
ebook indexer
Try with this

So it doesn't read PDFs? Might have been worth using if it did so I'll stick to Allreader, any EPUB books I have can be easily converted to HTML.
calibre does a great job of converting to Epub
OT: Is there a way how make eReader read different character page correctly? I cannot read all Czech characters correctly, only some of them.

[Q] PDF Load Problems

Hello guys,
I got the G tab as a gift. I hated the UI so now I am using ZPad Clean ROM. PDF I have tried a number of PDF readers I have used and all have given me the same problem. While scrolling, the file is blank. It takes about a second for the text to load. I thought that since my books are around 10-100 MB, it must be a problem with the file. I have tried plain text PDFs which are not even a page long and I have the same problem.
Does anyone know a way around this problem?
Thanks!
Solution!
Found a perfect reader. Loads even the big PDF files easily!

I use Adobe pdf reader and it works fine. I'm also pretty sure ezpdf is not free so you should probably remove the link.

Its in the marketplace, free, and works like an official version should.
Only drawback is using file browser to open the file. No native file browser built into the app.

Best pdf reader for note

as long as you don't flatten it, you can delete annotations in ezpdf. When i was using it i would make new annotations very often so if i had to change something i didn't lose tons of stuff.

Setting up my new GNote 10.1 - Iannotate Problem

Hello, I recently dumped my Ipad 2 for the Gnote 10.1 and am running into a small problem. Im a military pilot and have a TON of flight manuals, all annotated, highlighted, and bookmarked up with Iannotate for easy studying.
I have found Iannotate for Android, lacking and want to try EZPDF or Repligo (right now i have Repligo). Repligo will not open any document annotated with Iannotate. Neither will Snote. infact only the Android Iannotate and the Adobe Reader app will open them.
I cant be the only person seemingly locked into this now (i really dont want to have to re-do all of this).
Has anyone found a solution? the error I keep getting is " Error opening file. It appears to be damaged."
I have tried opening to Adobe.com, then redownloading (after a new annotation in hopes to put it in a universal Adobe format, but that didnt work).
Any Ideas?
In IAnnotate, you might try going to settings and choosing the 'email w/annotations'. Email to yourself and then open those in your new pdf reader. I use Mantano. Just an idea.
edit: I just tried that and did not have much success. I was able to open it up in IAnnotate and see all the annotations but when opening it up in EZPdf, Mantano, Moon Reader and Adobe reader, only the document showed w/o annotations. EZPdf wouldn't open it at all, saying it was corrupted.
I'm thinking it's something with IAnnotate not being able to save or flatten the annotations with the pdf/doc that is preventing it from being opened or viewed by another reader. idk. Maybe someone else has figured this out. Good question, tho.
Yeah... its only some documents. I have gotten a couple to work. so im starting to think it may only be a certain type of annotation, one that may not carry over. Havent decided on the best reader yet.. gonna check out Mantano or EZ now.. Repligo isnt all that super (it is better than Iannotate though)
You can add my vote for ezpdf

All around reading solution

I am looking for a good app that can handle all my reading/book needs. I want it to be able to load ebooks that I manually put on it, and integrate with Google Play Books/Kindle/Nook, and I want to be able to manually paste in text of short stories that I find online to create a mini ebook within the app itself. If there is a simple way to create a ebook file off of plain text, thats fine, if i can then load it into this app. The ability to load audiobooks(just large audio files, often mp3) would also be good, but I can also just do that through Google Music if necessary.
Does anyone know of any such app? Am I dreaming too big?
Dreaming way too big.. lol.
The only way to get access to the major services' books (Google/Kindle/Nook) is to use their official apps. I don't think there are any 3rd party apps than can access their servers. Google Play does allow you to upload .pdfs and .epubs to their servers, but i believe only through their website IIRC.
Moon Reader is a nice app you can use for files on your device.
I don't know of any apps that can create .epub. But google and you shall find.
yea thought so
your information is really helpful. i had no idea i could upload pdfs to play books, thats a huge helper thank you.
Calibre may be of some help to you. It is a computer application that can import ebooks from many sources (paid-DRM/free) and convert e-formats. You can access on your device from anywhere with Aldiko Reader--maybe others, too. Once I buy a book from Amazon or Nook or Kobo, I import it into Calibre. I can also import texts that I create through a word processor. The program does much more than I ever use or will use. You do have to have a computer.

+1 on Calibre! No matter where my ebooks come from I import them into Calibre, convert them and upload them to Play Books so that they sync across all my devices.
