program to add e-books in sence reader - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

may be somebody knows an app. to add easily e-books in sence reader. ideas welcome

Out of curiosity, what formats does this reader support? Not that it matters too much, I really can't see it being a patch on Allreader+ which is the best mobile ebook reader I have used bar perhaps Stanza.

ePub, the HTC reader supports the ePub format (don't know if it supports other formats as well). As of now only Freda supports this format. In addition, the HTC eReader support DRM protected ePub books (I have to test this out yet, but the device can be activated using the adobe server)

ebup and plain text both work, haven't tried anything else yet. Just have to access them via file manager, so I asecond the original question.

I second that also, but I think we just have to wait till someone is going to write a program for this. At this moment, there's a little work-around described here. This works very well, but is a bit cumbersome.
BTW, there is some interfacing possible with Adobe Digital Editions. When there is a active sync connection, one can activate the HD2 with this PC program and there is a possibility to copy books to the HD2. However the books copied to the device don't show up in the ereader tab.
On the 2.05 test rom there was a directory "Program Files/HTC Reader" in which there was a subdirectory "manifest". This name is also used by Adobe Digital Edition for its library.
(Not that this is of any use right now, but maybe someone can figure out how the HTC reader interfaces with Adobe Dig. Ed or for that matter, any other pc reader/manager)

btw http://www.epubbooks.com/books has many many free epub books.

it wont do this automagically. There's a database which holds all the books, unfortunately there's no tool available on WM to add new books.
I'll publish one soon.
EDIT: wont publish mine, as one has already been published.

ebook indexer
Try with this

So it doesn't read PDFs? Might have been worth using if it did so I'll stick to Allreader, any EPUB books I have can be easily converted to HTML.

calibre does a great job of converting to Epub

OT: Is there a way how make eReader read different character page correctly? I cannot read all Czech characters correctly, only some of them.

NEW: Manila E-Book Library Manager

Hi all.
I wrote an application that replaces the Library Manager that comes with the new Manila e-book reader tab (which is not of much use, if you don't have an account for Borders).
After installation, the application will start when you click the "Library" menu of the new reader tab.
You can use the application to access the books in your library, but also to import books you already have on your PDA into the new Manila tab.
It will import e-books in the .epub format, but also in lots of other formats.
The Manila tab will only show the ones in .epub format, but from this new library you can access the e-books in the other formats as well (at least, if the appropriate reader application is installed on your PDA).
This application assumes that each of your e-books is located in its own folder.
If an image file is located in a folder that contains an e-book, the application will automatically assume that the image represents the bookcover.
If an .opf file is located in the folder (which is a standard format for saving metadata with e-books), the application will automatically get the title, the name of the author and the name of the publisher of the e-book from that .opf file.
See the screenshots to get an idea of the look and feel of the application.
To install the application on your PDA, download the .cab file, copy it to your PDA and run it there.
Release history:
In version 0.3 the robustness was enhanced significantly.
In version 0.2 a number of small user-interface enhancements were made.
Thank you. Very useful program.
Thx...
How to add national fonts to Manila HTCReader ??

Djurkash, does your ROM include the Manila e-book reader tab?
My application only works if the reader tab is available (and working).

SR....install it next.
Hi.
I just posted version 0.2; the flow through the user interface is more Manila-like now.
@OABsoftware, sure it does... like I said, it happens when hitting library button
tried to reinstall, but it's the same...is it possible that problem is caused cause I changed my book.db file through ebookindexer?
I'm really liking this app...I have a request however, is it possible to have this app work with the other native built-in e-book functions as well?
What is happening is even if you click on the 'Menu' > Shop or Account Settings, it is redirecting to your app. I would prefer if the app was launched only when you clicked on the 'Library' link. That way people who have Adobe & Borders accounts can still get books via those means also.
Thanks

does look to be that.. I had the same error and changed back to be the original and it works fine. import is great, even with all the books in one folder..
It also beats the 20 limit.. just added all the books from my sd card
need to go back to calibre and redo them to fit the new system
@fards,
I confirm this, have restored original book.db, and now is working flawlessly...

Is there a chance to add support for international characters?

+1, totally want that too. HTC Reader is of almost no use without proper support of national characters.

Best e-reader for pdf books?

Is it possible to read pdf books in a e reader? If so, which e reader is best for reading pdfs. I have some pdfs of books that I would like to read on my phone using an e reader. I can use adobe acrobat but I have to zoom in and zoom out which is a pain in the butt.
Thanks.
p.s. Im not sure if these pdfs are specially made for e-readers. I would love to have an e-reader which can conveniently display normally created pdf books as well.

I had this issue when i was using a small screen windows mobile phone. My fix was to convert the PDF to text. That way it was more easy to view. Then i would create a .epub file that most e readers use, (with the exception of the ones who need to feel special) this way pages get formatted to a small screen and are a bit easier to read then the pdf.
Also this site may help

Try ezpdf from market.

So I convert my pdf and then view them in Google reader or kindle reader etc??
yes, use a converter and you can view it in Google reader which has worked pretty well for me
How do you open it in Google Books. I cant seem to find where it stores e books.
depends if they are text based or image based pdf's. Also if they are technical books (i.e. containing diagrams etc) then it can be problematic.
Most readers try and do a re-flow and don't display high-image content well. Some readers also allow image/reflow choice which solves that problem.
If its just text based books then the world is your oyster and choices are massive. If not then there are less.
Try setting
try the reflow (in foxit reader) or similiar function in the pdf reader. u can read well

If I can recall a .pub file is embedded with something that makes it unique to a specific reader. Such as nook or kindle readers.
I know that in order for me to get a book into a reader I usually have to find the default folder and just copy the book over. Try to find a folder that says something gbooks or Google books, open it and see if it has some of your downloaded books in it. If it does just paste your books here, trial and error works for finding which file types are recognized.
Smells like WINNING from my T-959 xda premium app
thanks for the info!

ebook formats is *.dnl bro, could you please give the solution of my problem?
After a bit of digging around. He's right.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_e-book_formats search the page for dnl.
Dunno what would read them tho.
Maybe http://ebook.online-convert.com/convert-to-epub could help you before using Aldiko or Moon reader etc.
You're not right. You're not even wrong!
.exe ebook files? don't pirate stuff. if you intend or doing so, do it smarter!
I'm trying to help you here. When you download a movie that is in exe form (in otherwords not what it is supposed to be), chances are it is malicious.
Assuming once you get the basics about ebook and reading, I would recommend Aldiko Book Reader. Its by far the best I've use so far.

[Q] App for RSS reader where each post is a PDF file

Alright, so this use is very specific and I'd be surprised if there is an app that could do what I need but I'm going to try anyway.
I have a RSS feed where each new article has a PDF attachment - in fact, the RSS feed is to get this particular periodical which is released in the PDF format.
I've tried a couple of RSS readers and they sync the new post but not the PDF file. I want to be able to download PDF files from the reader and either read it in the reader or open it using another PDF reader.
Are there any RSS readers which can download attachments?
I don't know about Metro-style apps, but the built in RSS feature of IE can do file download links. It's not the best of interfaces (by a considerable margin), though. Outlook's reader may suit you better except it's not available for RT.

Thanks! This worked out fine. I was able to subscribe to the RSS feed and select "Download attached files" in the options. This worked perfectly for me.
The non-touchiness (did I just make up a word?) is an issue but once I had the setup, I don't ever need to look at the feed itself. I can just look at the folder where files are downloaded and other stuff happens in the background.
Thanks again!
One more question though - is there a way to specify the location of the downloaded attachments in IE? By default, it stores attachments in /temp/Internet/ ... blah. I was able to pin this folder to the start menu for easy access but it would be nice to tell IE where to store the attachments.
Any help here would be appreciated.
You're welcome! I'm glad that worked out for you. Yeah, IE has actually had an RSS/ATOM feed reader since version 7, but it's gotten more and more hidden with each release (back in IE7, you could select options like having it play a sound when a feed was discovered, for example). IE10 has improved the reader a bit, but it's still kind of hidden.
I didn't find a way to specify where to deliver the downloaded files, sadly. The best option I know of is to use a directory symbolic link so that when IE thinks it's writing to the temp folder, it's actually writing to a more accessible location that you selected. However, setting up one of these requires using an admin command line, and carries some risk of messing things up. If you would like to do so anyhow, specify the full paths to your temp folder (where the downloads are going now) and the folder you want to put them in instead, and I'll give you a simple script to make it happen if possible, or at least tell you what you would need to do.
Thanks for the offer! Let me dig around a little bit more and if all else fails, I'll come back to you

All around reading solution

I am looking for a good app that can handle all my reading/book needs. I want it to be able to load ebooks that I manually put on it, and integrate with Google Play Books/Kindle/Nook, and I want to be able to manually paste in text of short stories that I find online to create a mini ebook within the app itself. If there is a simple way to create a ebook file off of plain text, thats fine, if i can then load it into this app. The ability to load audiobooks(just large audio files, often mp3) would also be good, but I can also just do that through Google Music if necessary.
Does anyone know of any such app? Am I dreaming too big?
Dreaming way too big.. lol.
The only way to get access to the major services' books (Google/Kindle/Nook) is to use their official apps. I don't think there are any 3rd party apps than can access their servers. Google Play does allow you to upload .pdfs and .epubs to their servers, but i believe only through their website IIRC.
Moon Reader is a nice app you can use for files on your device.
I don't know of any apps that can create .epub. But google and you shall find.
yea thought so
your information is really helpful. i had no idea i could upload pdfs to play books, thats a huge helper thank you.
Calibre may be of some help to you. It is a computer application that can import ebooks from many sources (paid-DRM/free) and convert e-formats. You can access on your device from anywhere with Aldiko Reader--maybe others, too. Once I buy a book from Amazon or Nook or Kobo, I import it into Calibre. I can also import texts that I create through a word processor. The program does much more than I ever use or will use. You do have to have a computer.
