[Q] Rooting Problem - General Questions and Answers

I tryed to root my SE XPERIA X10 with help of tutorial from youtube(gne0n is the user who posted tutorial)and after i finished step one my phone freezes at black screen and wont start up.Can someone tell me what is the problem and how to solve it?

Search for fastboot or recovery mode may give you some good answers.

Yes stick to that !

noobs who r stuck at black screen have probably bricked there phones!!
today only i faced the same thing atleast from 10 different noobs with generally teh same problem..
ur solution will b that if u cannot do anything try to hard reset by pressing the key combinations thats probably written in phone manual..
if hard reset wont solve it then u have to use adb terminal and dats a lot of headache than u can handle!!

I don't think telling everyone in the Q&A section to NOT root their phone counts as helping or solving a problem. Calling everyone a noob doesn't solve anything either. Just saying.
And OP, best bet would be to check the thread for the root method & the forum for your device. If needed, post this in your device-specific Q&A forum. I'm not sure what you mean by black screen. Is this the splash screen (what you would normally see first when the device boots) or something else?

bro i know that!!
u also dont have a clear answer!
the thing why i told some people not to root coz i feel from the info they r providing is insufficient which means they dont have dat much experience or idea of rooting!!!
i dont want them to brick their phone!!! let them have more ideas then they can do it!!
as for the poster plz dont try to do anything now without adequet knowledge of rooting.. ask urself why u need it!!
then go to ur particular phone's sub forum.. u will get a lot of help from dere!

Need help with rooting my g1

Hi im new to this rooting stuff and i need some help bad I got a g1 and it was in donut 1.6..i read a thread that said i had to get it back to a 1.5 firmware and after i did that i wasnt able to one click root it. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!! for some reason my file manager wasnt accepting the flash recovery image and now my fone is stuck with no on screen keyboard and camcorder..Im sorry if this thread has already been answered but i couldnt find anything to help..any help is much appreciated THANKS!!
hi, You could go over to cyanogen's wiki and start over. here is the link http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod , just make sure you read it over a couple of time's cause there is a chance of bricking your device. Oh and when you get to the part a bout the signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip HTC took the link's off for some reason but you can find them at http://www.mediafire.com/?zywmn354kre , or if that one doesn't work for you there is http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BYJBWHAB. I'll say it one more time make sure you read it over and over, and make sure you understand what it say's to do before doing it. Lot's of people have bricked there phone's for not following direction's, and it's no one's fault but your own. Other than that if you have any questions just ask, and ill be sure to help.

Bricked?

Hi,
yesterday I wanted to install a theme from CMUpdater (had the latest CM running) and when my G1 wanted to boot it hung up on the T-Mobile G1 screen, reacting on nothing. After like 10 minutes i took out the battery and started in recovery mode and tried to load an old backup that I made a few months ago but this didn't work. Then I just wanted to install an old CM version that was still on the SD-card, but it always says installation aborted. Same goes for data wipe or if I want to apply any other zip from sd card.
Is my phone bricked just because of that stupid theme? Can anyone help me to make it work again? There should be loads of guys that know A LOT more about custom roms etc here ^^
thanks
mistkäfer
Wrong place, please post in the right section next time. G1 Q&A
sorry, could some admin move that thread please?
if you can get into recovery its not a brick. Can you wipe from adb? I would try wiping from adb then flash a defanged rom (the one in cyanogen's wiki) and then flash the cm rom of your choice.
throw your phone away and go buy an iphone. If you cant understand the rules of posting in a forum, dont even attempt to root your phone and attempt to do anything to it. How long did it take to find the power button? How long did it take to understand how to push it?

If you do not care to spoon feed - don't respond. Telling people to search is a losing battle. Grateful you chose to search - however, we don't need to start posting this crap again as it gets us nowhere.
I did everything on the second link but unfortunately my samsung galaxy S 4G can't go to download mode. It doesn't came out from the black screen, no matter what I do. Any help or tips on my little situation please :S

Your phone is hard brick homie! What did you do to get to that state? Do you have heimdall installed on your pc already? Otherwise, the only thing you can do is send it in to samsung for repair (takes 6-10 days to get it back, I know from experience) or find someone with a riff box. Otherwise, you are screwed... Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I have been there and that is just how it is...
Help me please!!!!

[Q] About superoneclick-Please someone respond

Well guys..I am so afraid of bricking my brand new phone so i have been searching for alternatives(rather than using adb push stuff)to root it the last 3-4 days.I have a DS running 2.3.5,software version 2.10.163.5 and hboot 2.00.0002,branded.Can i use Superoneclick to root it and then flash a custom rom or i need to unlock my bootloader by using htcdev(its better to stay stock rather than using that) and then use the Superoneclick?I dont want to blow up my phone so i am asking for your help guys..
You can't be bothered reading, can you? It's so much easier to open 10 threads with questions that are answered 100000 times, than to sit and just read, is it?

First of all relax. You have no [email protected] idea how much reading have i done for this.I have like 23 bookmarks on my browser to try short things out.So give me a break. Most of the guides i found have comments below that say "Not working","Error,HELP" and stuff. All i wanted is a clear answer.YES or NO.I am so [email protected] confuced about the methods so i asked for a clear answer. If you got it i will push the "thanks" button and say i appreciate your help.If not, please do not even bother saying read because i have done MUCH reading.Believe me.
You're reading the wrong sources then.
Read the index thread.
Read the guides.
Read them and try to understand, what each part and each command is doing, and what it's needed for.
You're asking the most basic questions that just about anyone knows the answer to. Try asking Google: "what is S-OFF", "what is the difference between root and S-OFF". Read the answers.
And really, yet again, the same piece of advice: not all phones have to be rooted. Stay stock until you understand enough to mess with your phone. It's better for you, and it's better for your phone. Believe me, having 10 apps you don't use means nothing for your phone.
Jack_R1 is a super help when u need it.
What u need to know is those post are on sticky for a reason, if it is unsafe it would have been remove, and ppl have actually succeeded in unlocking and rooting based on those post. yes there will always be one or 2 error, but it was solve somewhere in those page. I did the instructions in page 1 and found solutions to my errors in between page 40-50 and another solution in another totally different post. Google will be your friend.
Everyone is afraid, who isn't. i flash my phone when it was just 3 months old, and it was my 1st touch screen android phone.
Based on what i read that u should try to avoid HTCdev(bet there is a post somewhere saying why).
Try to read the sticky, find which method is best that u can understand and is most suitable with ur device then go with it, when u encounter and error, try the search button, if u still are not able to find the solution then create a post.
Ppl here are genuinely willing to help when u done all that u could.
There is also a sticky explaining the meaning words if you do not understand any(which honestly i do not understand before flashing).
Take your time, there is no competition/time limit, Find a day when u have nothing to do. Read through, and make sure u follow each step accordingly. i miss one step which force me to pull out my battery, twice. But after the horror ordeal i am now flashing between roms every now and then and enjoying it.
Cheer and try to be polite.

Thanks man.I was waiting for that kind of answer and not like Jack's.Well the only reason i didnt want to follow the guide which in my case is Zergrush is because i am afraid that if i press something wrong the phone will get bricked and dont know how to fix it.Thats why i asked for an alternative. And sorry for not beeing so polite but i I Swear to God i have done so much reading that it only made me be more afraid than i was before.

-Actually he is right, there is no need to question the guides, it is research and proven by those OP(s) and also ppl like us who have successfully rooted it.
-So you found some ppl posted their issue, I believe most of their issue were solved and they posted about it.
-you can search for your error code in the forum with the search option either by thread or post.
[2]Read them and try to understand, what each part and each command is doing, and what it's needed for.
-He is actually guiding you, each step is a process, once u take ur time to read and understand and break down the process you will find that it isn't so complicated. And if u bum into an issue within any of those step u can simply find the solution(s) in a later post. (i actually wish some one told me that before i started, i have no idea what i was doing when i started)
-With that in note, read whether ur phone is branded, if it needs a goldcard, zergrush or some other, because some process are not necessary while others may be a must.

Boot Loop - Can get into Recovery

I can get into P0010UU_V16 but thats it. Reset and clearing everyting gets me no where. When i restart, i get the White boot screen with Blu, then it turns off. Sometimes i get a flash of a matrix looking green lines but that is it. I can't get it to recognize on my PC either when plugged in unless I put it in ADB mode i can get it to show up as a MT65xx Android Phone. I have tried the "SP Flash Tool" but it does nothing. Any ideas?

Thanks for no help! Maybe a check this thread with a link? i don't need the passive aggressive response. I was using the unbrick thread already...
who's the one being passive aggressive? read the thread... its not my job to spoon feed you... look who posted tons of help in those threads... ME
I've already helped more than just you. oh but wait... since YOU need help, by all means let me retype all of the stuff i already typed, in that thread and put it here... JUST FOR YOU....
when your main question is "i already did a thing, and it didn't work" when you obviously haven't even attempted to read the thread, to gain the knowledge of how to do the thing correctly... there is EXACT problem you are having, and how to fix it... no im not going to dig through it for you, I had to learn how, so do you... and i told you EXACTLY what to do...
so good job getting on the bad side of the guy who could have helped you, by being entitled ... no one here works for you, and we help those who help themselves... or at least have enough sense to research their issue and maybe read a little before acting like we owe you...
"MOOOMMMMMY I WANT TENDIES... TENDIES FOR MY TUM TUM"
check THIS Thread
edit since you did...
Wanna know how I know you arent reading that thread? If you were there are step by step instructions... there's even alternate fixes... I am not going to tie your shoes for you; especially after you got all butthurt...
all the information is there... including...
I will throw you a bone... you prolly are doing 1 of 2 things wrong...
1. dont have the right drivers for the MT chipset (the one that "pops up in device manager" as you said (yet anopther clue to you not reading the thread)
2. you arent using the correct procedure for SP flash tool...
the fact you can get into recovery even opens you up to another possibility to fix (and also points out the fact you arent reading the thread, 3 so far...)
All you need to do is read... it isnt 100000 posts...
Ill even make it easier yet... maybe search my post history.... Maybe me saying I typed it elseware was yet ANOTHER hint...
