I'm quite new to all this rooting, but wouldn't it be possible to use other rooting methods e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537 to root the Desire S?
I've also come across Unrevoked - . Is there any way to contact those developers to request if they can look into enabling it for the Desire S?

well follow this link for downgrade: http://androidadvices.com/how-to-downgrade-htc-desire-hd-to-1-32-405-6-ota-firmware/
you might not have sound since its not compatible
then you download visionary: http://android.modaco.com/content/h...m/320722/19-nov-r14-visionary-one-click-root/
you first temproot then permanent root
then you s-off and eng-off by using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
than you do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403
check off the i have radio s-off cause you did it in the first step as i showed you
then upgrade to gingerbread which has 2.1 sense ( so it does have the sense) here is the link:
http://jobdeal.org/gingerbread-2-3-3-rom-for-desire-hd-review/
if you are doing the RUU way you have to make a goldcard which is very easy, you download goldcard helper you grab the MMC2 not mmc0 or mmc1 then you download this on you computer: http://android.modaco.com/content/software/308798/pc-application-goldcardtool/
then when you upgrade to gingerbread you need to install gingerbreak to root it again cause your root is gone it might give you error message saying " hey something happend it might not been rooted restart the phone manually" restart it you should be rooted and all good to go here is the link to gingerbreak download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
if you had any issues tell me ill help you out

Don't try to follow the method provided by moh8021 as it will not work on your phone. Your phone is a chinese clone (MTK based smartphone), isn't it?
What do you really want to do?
yes it is,
i wanted to know if it was possible to upgrade from 2.2.1 to 2.3.x
and root.
Is it possible? If yes i need a step by step guide.
Mine is the asian clone and this way worked on mine, i bought it from hongkong when i was there

Okay... I will not insist any more.
Go to this chinese forum and you'll know that there's no 2.3 ROM for your phone.

Hey I just got the Inspire HD and i wanted to root the phone. I found a Ace Hack Kit and i was going to root it with that. Link(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352). However i found this ROM and i wasnt sure if this would root the phone as well? Link(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040).
I want to know if I can root the phone with Ace Hack Kit and then flash the phone with the Android Revolution HD ROM.
I would appreciate any help in this process. Thank You
AS above i updated the Firmware supercid the works, (the none xe version of 4.0.3 works perfectly)
reread the rooting form and redownloaded the su-2.3.6.3-ef-signed.zip and installed at least 6 times no joy, installed busybox installer (wont work need super use)
is there an already rooted stock version as i have looked everywere and cant find it
the reason i want this it to custom mod it myself i know alot of people here have already put up there custom version but i want to do mine from scratch as its the best way to learn
cheers to all that help
Really no one will post a stock euro rooted ics for the xe 4.0.3
there was me thinking it was xda developers not il develop and you use it cus you have no other choice
Try using a newer version of root, like 3 since the one you're talking about is only for eclair and froyo.
Also, isn't virtuous stock already rooted?
Sent from my HTC Sensation
Thank you for the info mate
I will give it a go
as for virtuous stock already having been rooted, all apps i use always asked for root tested with root check pro and it says not rooted
is there a link for the new root (or even a google hint to what the file is called?) file as ive been following (xl VipeR lx) [Guide] to Installing S-off, Unlocking, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on
Hello,
I have HTC Inspire from AT&T. Have rooted and unlocked to 2.2.1. Now I would like to upgrade from 2.2.1 to 4. Can somebody help me How to upgrade Android HTC Inspire from 2.2.1 to 4?
- Raj
Check the link in my signature, Post#7 which contains basic info.
Basically read the op for each thread/rom to see what is required.
Download rom to sd card, reboot in recovery, perform a full wipe, flash the rom, reboot.
If you unlocked the bootloader using htc dev, that has a different flashing method. You'll get all that info from the guide glevitan wrote in my sig.

You should do some research before you post a new thread... There is so much info about what you asked, a simple search would have gotten you what you were looking for. Good luck with the process though!
Just some advice...
Please search the forums for threads, guides, tutorials, etc. before making a thread. Most of the time you can find your answer to your problem after searching the forums for a few minutes.
Try to find attn1's one click root kit and please read the manual.
