So I'm attempting to root my Evo Shift.
Before that, I need to download and Install both HTC Sync (Already Installed) and the SDK.
But The SDK won't install after I downloaded it. It says I need the Java SE Development Kit (JDK). I downloaded the JDK off of this page:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
I tried the first one. Same thing, didn't let me install the SDK when I tried again. Then I tried the last one. Same thing again. I already have JRE. I just need the JDK. The JDK got properly installed, but it still didn't let me go through with installed the SDK.
Does anyone know what I can possibly do?
Are there ways around this?
I got enough replies on my post for someone to tell me something.
Someone HAS to know the solution to this problem.
I read that if you just click back and then next again it will work. Tried that and I failed.
SOO many things I have tried.
I went back on the SDK download website and downloaded the .zip file instead of the .exe file. I extracted it but don't know where to go from there.
Is there another where of rooting my phone without SDK?
Bump
ANYONE?!

Never mind - hitting Back and then Next again seems to get around this. It doesn't make the slightest bit of sense, but it did work for me.
I'm going a bit nuts trying to install the Android SDK using the installer installer_r10-windows.exe on my 64-bit Windows 7 computer. It always gives me an error about not having the Java development kit installed, despite the fact that I've installed it using jdk-6u24-windows-x64.exe. I have properly set the environment variables for both the jre and the jdk and rebooted. None of this seems to make any difference.
Any hints?
I had the same problem. I downloaded the zip file, instead of the exe, and that worked.
mstevens,
You really don't need the SDK to to the "NVFlash" stuff needed in connection with the ROMs here.
You could go to the "NVFlash" Recovery thread STICKY at the start of
Developers forum and download the "Windows" .zip files there and install
it. The procedure is part of the NVFlash stuff.
If you need the whole SDK then so be it. But if you don't this is an
alternative.

I'd already been running stuff from the extracted .zip file.
One of my computers seems unable to run an emulator - even though it can create .avd files with no difficulty, it claims it can't find them when I try to launch one.
I'd hoped that a fully-installed version of the sdk might fix this. It didn't. Oh, well.
However, as noted in the edit to my original post, I did find a somewhat silly fix for my installation problem.
Hi all,
Hoping there is someone out there which can help, I am trying to find the usb driver for the Nexus S so I can use the SDK on this device.
I can't seem to find the drivers for it.. would be greatly appreciated if someone knows where i can find it.
I have the 4th revision installed on the SDK.
Thanks,
Scott
It should be located in
Code:
C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk-windows\extras\google\usb_driver
Edit the path according to where you install the SDK in.
Just done that and the driver installs fine, so thanks for that... when i go back into sdk it shows revison 4 as not being installed.. even though i have tried three times and each time it says it has installed.. is it worth re-downloading the Android SDK?
You can try if you want to
think i will
I have a stock captivate running 2.2 and I use a mac to work on my phones (I have an atrix too). I need to root this phone but everything on here only works for stock 2.1 not 2.2 and most of it is for windows not osx.
A little background, I used AirSideLoad to push Z4root to my phone but it did not root it. I downloaded the update.zip file and restarted the phone holding the volumes buttons to apply the update and that did not work. Lastly, I downloaded One Click Root and that too does not work. I put my phone in debugging mode, connect it to my computer then run One Click and it restarts my phone but when I select "reinstall packages" it fails.
Can someone help me here? Are there update versions of z4root (I used 1.3.0) or one click root (1.1.0) that would work on a stock captivate running 2.2?
please don't remove this post. I have read these forums and the other tips are either not for my phone or computer, or have NOT worked.

Trying right now.
edit: do you know how to start the root process? the instructions just say to use mono. is mono an emulator to run superoneclick? or is it a substitute program? shortfuse.org provides no instruction on this. can you help?
did you not follow the link to install mono on your mac?
i did. i dont even have a mac, but the description is right there
http://mono-project.com/Main_Page
i downloaded and installed mono. the question is how to use it with superoneclick. the website offers no instructions. i figure mono is a program that lets you use the same code across platforms so how to i run a program like superoneclick in it?
its like .net framework. there shouldnt be anything you need to do aside from run the app. i dont use mac so i cant test until i get home and fire up my mac mini
Did you get around this? I'm stuck on the same thing. Mono is installed, but the .exe files wont open anyway. And Mono isn't installed as a program, otherwise I would try to open it with that.
And there is really now description on their website other thank "install and it's should work".
Cool forum btw, thanks!
Hello all. Pls answer this quick question.
Inspite of being an xda member for a while, i haven't had the knowledge of android development. Im just starting to learn things from now.
So, i think i should learn java (dalvik VM part). Now Im just following a book of developing android apps for noobs. I need to install eclipse and install ADT plugin for eclipse.
Well, im on windows7 ultimate 32bit version. I previously had an ECLIPSE HELIOS VERSION (i think it is eclipse classic 3.6, not sure but it shows eclipse helios on startup). I installed this eclipse helios version. But the problem is i cant install the ADT plugin in any way.
I tried "https://" with no luck. Also tried "http://" with no luck. Also tried "INSTALL FROM ZIP ARCHIVE" with no luck. Also tried this with older ADT zip archives ofcourse with no luck.
The single most error it shows for all these attempts is "Cannot complete the install because one or more required/requested items could not be found."
What do you say. Is the eclipse version having bug with ADT plugin. Or do i need to download another eclipse version. If so please give me the direct file download link for the version you recommend (please since im completely new to this).
Now also installed eclipse indigo and the same problem continued. What should I do.
Sent from my Blade using XDA App
You need to be connected to the internet to installed the required items. I had that error and once I connected to the internet I was fine. But I also had to download the ZIP file because the http-https didn't work for me either.

I'm having a similar problem. I've downloaded the JDK, Android SDK, and Eclipse indigo. I first tried importing the plugin to classic, and it said "requires plugin org.eclipse.wst.sse.ui". So I went back to Eclipse's site and found a version that included WST. Now it's telling me that it can't find one of the files. I've tried both the https, http, and zip versions. I've scoured developer.android, and there's nothing describing my problem.
I'm trying to get into the Android programming scene, but it seems like the "initiation ceremony" is getting the better of me.
Resolved
I managed to find a solution to the problem. Rather than installing Indigo, I reverted to a version of Helios, and everything worked perfectly
i've tried searching and can find no answers, i've been looking for an hour. so please, no flaming that there is an existing thread, i already tried.
i have installed ADB successfully before and used it. i'm doing it again because i have a fresh windows install, so i know how it works.
i'm trying to install the android 2.3.3 (API 10) package for android SDK manager, and most of the files downloaded with no problem. however, the opensense SDK for phones, droid4, droidrazr, mt870, mt917, xt882, and xt928 files are asking me for authentication to log in to dl.htcdev.com. i cannot download them without this.
i've tried using adb without the files it's asking me to log in for, no go. it won't recognize my device using ADB DEVICE from the command prompt. i am using an HTC sensation, i am in charge only mode, and i do have USB debugging enabled.
i've also looked high and low for another source to download the 2.3.3 android package and can't find it. any help is much appreciated.
anyone? was really hoping to get ICS installed this weekend, but i can't do anything until i can get superCID going.
nevermind, i got it figured out.
