[Q] ADB SDK manager wants log in to update? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

i've tried searching and can find no answers, i've been looking for an hour. so please, no flaming that there is an existing thread, i already tried.
i have installed ADB successfully before and used it. i'm doing it again because i have a fresh windows install, so i know how it works.
i'm trying to install the android 2.3.3 (API 10) package for android SDK manager, and most of the files downloaded with no problem. however, the opensense SDK for phones, droid4, droidrazr, mt870, mt917, xt882, and xt928 files are asking me for authentication to log in to dl.htcdev.com. i cannot download them without this.
i've tried using adb without the files it's asking me to log in for, no go. it won't recognize my device using ADB DEVICE from the command prompt. i am using an HTC sensation, i am in charge only mode, and i do have USB debugging enabled.
i've also looked high and low for another source to download the 2.3.3 android package and can't find it. any help is much appreciated.

anyone? was really hoping to get ICS installed this weekend, but i can't do anything until i can get superCID going.

nevermind, i got it figured out.

What do i do if the new hardware device notification doesnt pop-up ? NM i got it. Thanks for the writeup
@King_tee: Assuming windows, you follow the following steps.
1. Start > Control Panel > System.
2. Hardware > Device Manager
3. Click on the last icon below the File menu. It should correspond to "Scan for Hardware Changes."
If that doesn't work, try unplugging / replugging USB cable, different USB cable, restarting phone, restarting computer, etc.
If you never see the notification, navigate to the Device Manager(inside "System" in the control panel in XP and inside Device Manager on Vista).
You will see ADB Android Device at the top of the list with a Yellow Icon beside it meaning the device is not working. Right-click on the device and select "Update Driver".
Follow the dialogs that pop-up and navigate to where the unzipped drivers are at...
You should be good to go from there...
ok, i need some help please... I downloaded the SDK and followed the instruction in this thread, but when i try to update my driver for the phone, it says the driver is not compatible with my phone.. I am using Haykuro's ROM 4.5 with FW 1.5.. would that be the reason for this issue?

you may need to uninstall the current driver for your phone if you have mounted it before downloading the SDK. if you don't have the SDK setup the first time you plug the phone in then your computer will auto-update the driver to a regular UMS driver and it won't help you when you try adb. i forget how to uninstall your current driver since i don't use windows, but i'm sure you can find a nice crash course online

Found through Google...imagine that.
as well as what xyrcncp said can you you can download it and just mv ~/Desktop/sdk/tools/adb /usr/bin/adb abd you should be able to run the adb commands from any directory. not too hard to cd to the correct directory but i personally don't like to type cd ~/Phone/tools/android-sdk/tools every time cause i tend to make typographical errors. let me know how it worked but you shouldn't have any problems at all
umm no offense but your writing a tutorial for people that are not sure on how to do this, so you must assume that they do not know how to run an executable file...... write yourself a better tutorial without actually bashing the self esteem of some people... tutorials are positive not negative. I already know all of this but still... dont degrade someone due to the fact they dont know how, thats the whole point of writing your tutorial. Nothing should have been left out (including how to run a .exe .com or .bat
" (If you do not know how to install a windows executable file, please kill yourself now! ) "
this isnt honestly written with any hatred towards you, it was a good tutorial. Just might want to think about how you write it next time.
The "bashing" comments in my tutorial are directed towards the people with a true sense of humor. My tutorial was written to tell you how to simply complete a task and not to make you feel better about yourself. I do not get pleasure in abusing people's self esteem nor do I enjoy putting people down.
Just because you got a little sand in your crack does not mean you need to come in a very honest and informative thread and start bashing the people who are bending over backwards to help everyone out.
The reason I created this "tutorial" in the first place was because all the other threads are full of "start searching and stop asking so many damn questions" comments.
So start looking in the mirror when you wake up in the morning and stop saying "My, I think I will run over to good ole' XDA and be an @$$ to everyone today".
I am sincerely sorry that a little sense of humor has caused so much hatred in my thread. Please contact the forum moderators and see if the think my tutorial is so hateful.
lol i dont see any hatred but anyway when i download the adb driver when extracting it says unknown method

Are you using Windows or Linux?
Are you using the built-in Zip tool or 7-zip from the links I provided?
Are you using a 32 or 64-bit OS?
using the same operating system as you 64bit vista ultimate sp1 and using winrar to extract
Try using 7-zip man, I have been using it for 3 yrs now.
Basically what I am saying is that everything in my guide is guaranteed to work.
Just to add, if you take adb.exe and adbwinapi.dll and copy or move them to the \windows\system32 directory you can run adb from any dos directory prompt.
it worked with 7-zip thank you and also want to add if it doesnt work for some people plug in ur phone and update the usb mass storage with the usb driver from here and it should work i had that problem earlier
Okay, so I did everything and got up to run cmd, when I type in the cd C:\android-sdk-windows-1.1_r1\tools it says not a specififed folder, but when I type it without the \tools it doesnt work. can anyone help?

[SOLVED] Android SDK Updater on OpenSuSE 11.2: Not able to get a platform

Alright, since my google search returned the whole 2 (two!) relevant results, and the search here around 10 irrelevant, I thought I'd drop this on the community, in hope for some help.
I've upgraded my 64bit OpenSuSE to 11.2 the other day, downloaded the Android SDK, set up the environment variables, and fired up the "android" script that is supposed to download and install a platform, so I could access my device through adb shell.
Here I ran into a problem: Half of the buttons I click in the SDK updater don't seem to work, it will not save the settings, it will not remember the URL I type in (had to use http), and when it reads the http repo, it will not download and install what I have cheked! What happens is, I click the button, it appears to stick down for a while, then pops back up as if I never clicked it, and nothing happens.
My first question is, has anybody tried this on SuSE 11.2? I have had no problems on 11.1, for instance.
Second, does this need any "special" Java configuration to work properly? I have tried both the openJava (now built-in into SuSE), and Sun Java latest (SDK and JRE). I don't think so, but asking just in case...
I'm pretty much stuck. If anyone has this working, or better yet, if anyone knows where I could download platforms outside of the updater, please be so kind and share. Thank you!
P.S. Oh, and the optional third question: Is there a way to trigger the download from console? That would probably help to figure out what goes wrong...
EDIT: Not Java problem, but updater problem. It does not show any of the SDKs, it shows only APIs, which can only be added if a valid SDK exists.
Can anyone confirm this?
It seems I need an external link to SDK 1.6 for Linux (for example). Can't anyone share?
Thanks!
Still stuck...
EDIT2: Solved it, my adb works again. But the updater app is crap I installed the APIs, then shut it down, rebooted, then ran it again. Also, for some reason the buttons wouldn't respond to clicks, but if I click and then push Enter key, it works. Took me a while to figure this one out.
Hey, I'm getting ready to install Android SKD on openSUSE 11.2 from scratch. Could you list your steps and/or suggestions based on how you got it working? Thanks.
How did it go?? Sry, just saw this...
Don't have time to do the steps.. actually, everything works just as the standard procedure suggests, with the exception of button clicks - as I said, each time I clicked a button, I had to press the Enter key (as if the click was just giving it focus, but not the actual command)
Feel free to PM me (or any other user), especially if the thread is a bit old, like this one.

Android sdk r06 what to install?

Hey guys this is my first time really working on an android and I am trying to get it to work with Metropcs.
Here is my question.
I have this Android SDK r06 and when I execute it, a window pops up. There are several things checked and unchecked. I basically just hit accept all and then run it...
Do I need to accept all? or can I just run what was initially checked off when I first opened it?
I dont want to install any un needed stuff since this part takes forever!!!
Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

[Q] Transformer 3.1 Rooting Issues

Hi XDA
I am new to the Android scene but not new to hacking and moding in general. I have an Asus Transformer that I've been trying to root for over a day now with out success.
I've been following this guide since I don't want to remove the information from my tablet as I actually want to gain root to back up some applications before I continue further down the CWM and mod's path.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125714
I have adb setup and can access the device in apx mode, when running the batch script for root, the terminal shows that it's copying data, and I see output successful written twice on the tablet it's self, If i further continue the CWM batch script I get a 3rd successful message appear on the tablet.
I reboot the transformer and enter normal mode, and ensure debugging is actively set, and a little bumblebee icon is in the bottom status bar, I then proceed to run the root_app batch which should open up su for me.
However even though I don't receive any error messages and only successful ones, it just wont root! I've tried replacing the boot.img and recovery.img from another post on rooting, to see if this would give any success alas non was given.
I am now completely lost on what I can do next, I don't understand why this wont work for me, whilst it seems to work correctly for everyone else.
The details of the transformer as current:
Android 3.1
Kernel 2.6.36.3-00001-gf377a2b
Build hmj37.ww-epad-8.4.4.5-201105271
Dock EP101-0209
I am using windows 7 64 with drivers installed and asus sync installed.
Nvidia USB Boot-recovery driver for mobile devices
Date 31/01/2011
Version 1.1.1.0
Please can I get some direction from the XDA community on this issue since I've got over 20 tabs open in my browser looking information up and yet nothing seems to help, as stated I don't want to loose my data just yet since I really want to back up a couple of apps of importance to me, hence I am having to use this rooting method for now.
I would of posted in the above linked thread but XDA wont let me since I am a new member.
Please can someone shed some light on this for me? I am willing to rip out the boot.img from the transformer my self, and mod it given the commands and little help since I can't see what else I can do.
Bump
Can someone please move this to applicable transformer area? This thread is being viewed but not answered, and I think I need a dev to look at it
Is there anyone here who can confirm the drivers I am using for apx are ok? I did pull them from the package which is part of the guide I linked and was following.
More info
Well i've ensured that JDK and SDK are installed that all parts are updated and installed according to the adb guide, and yet still nothing...
.
Here is a sample output on the transformer after running root.bat
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/204/20110622112439.jpg
Restricting new users is actually pretty S**T i can't post in correct threads, I can't add links to images to show my outputs what a way to welcome new people!!
With regards to running the root_app.bat which gives the superuser permissions, I have debugging enabled, and I see my tablet in windows I can explore the file system and I see it listed as Transformer TF101 under portable devices.
Driver Provider Microsoft
Driver date: 21/06/2006
Driver Version 6.1.7600.16385
Could it be a problem with this driver?
Stop looking and start answering I am getting really F*** off here, I've had no sleep and i am still no further forward, 2days of hell for something that people are reporting as the fastest and easiest root ever!
What driver version do you have listed in windows when you have the tablet connected under debug mode? please at least someone help me with that answer so I can continue this dam search for a fix.
Anyone?
If you could please just confirm if your using the same drivers when having the tablet on in normal mode, and connected with debug option active.
Going to spam this now so I can link into the original guides tread.
Spam to unlock my account 1.
Spam to unlock my account 2.
Spam to unlock my account 3.
Spam to unlock my account 4. Should be unlocked so i can post in dev section.
FIXED!
Ok so i finally got pissed off with this and having a strong suspicion it was a driver level issue only I ripped all the drivers out for normal mode, with and with out debugging.
I re-installed the device and the drivers fresh from ASUS website (again) and low and behold it's working.
I believe the reason for my issue was a corrupt MTP driver, I recently did the asus sync update and that caused a number of sporadic errors! (Adobe AIR completely disappeared out my system!)
Anyway, thanks to the XDA community NOT (69 views not a single confirmation of driver version I was asking for!) I WILL help others and since I've spammed this thread enough to unlock the dev threads it's now being posted and linked there for the benefit of others!
3hours sleep 2 days of messing = pissed off but finally relived user of transformer!
Big shout to the dev's who have made the tools in the first place you're doing a great job, and I hope to assist, with guides, testing and maybe a mod or two.

[Q] Cannot make root progress on Kindle Fire- Win XP sees as Android Composite...

Can anyone please help me...?
I'm running Windows XP, using the Kindle Fire Utility, and have installed Android SDK Tools. I'm attempting to root a Kindle Fire running 6.3.1.
I have followed instructions (from here and elsewhere), and while the KFU driver installer would not install the proper drivers, I WAS able to direct Windows to the driver folder and have it install them directly. Afterward, Windows had no problem seeing (in Device Manager) the KF as 'Android Composite ADB Interface', indicating the drivers are correct.
Now the problem. No matter what I do, I can't get ANY of the root systems (KFU or SDK Tools) to see the device when it is connected. Tried to use Fastboot command to change the boot loader to 4002 fastboot mode, but it also hangs on '< waiting for device >'...
I can see the device as a mass storage device in 'My Computer' and can add or delete files from it without issue, but I just can't make any progress rooting this thing without the appropriate programs being able to see it!
I HATE feeling stupid, and this thing is REALLY making me feel like I'M the idiot that can't see what's right in front of his face! Can someone PLEASE light the neon sign that will finally illuminate what my obviously lacking vision refuses to see?? (T_T)
Thank you for taking the time to read all this, and thank you to ANYONE who answers with ANY useful information! I'll be watching, and waiting with baited breath for SOME sort of assistance...
-Asuka Jr.
<update> 120 views now, and not even a scathing remark about how much of a moronic noob I am... While waiting, I went to PCWorld, and tried to follow their step-by-step, downloading Firefirefire, fbmode, TWRP, AOKP, and Google Aps for AOKP release 38. Once again, attempted to follow directions, and once again, get one of the dreaded variants 'device not found' when trying to use adb to push the fbmode file to the KF... (T_T)
SOLVED!!
It WAS a driver issue! I would like to say:
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! To josepho1997!
He posted a link to a set of drivers that was EXACTLY what I needed to get the Kindle to be recognized by root software!
KF is now fully rooted and flashed, and running IceCream Sandwich!!
Sorry I posted this whole thing here, instead of in the Q&A for the Kindle Fire... for some reason, I thought that was where I was, but later noticed otherwise...
To admin: please feel free to delete this whole topic, as it wasn't in the right place to begin with...
Once again, thank you to josepho1997 for his post to themagicm containing the link to the FAR better driver set!!!
-Asuka Jr.
