heavy duty case for nexus one?

well i have been searching around and no luck. when im at home, i got a rubber case for it since i tend to not drop my phone at home. but when im out, i tend to forget about my phone and drop it. now this hasn't happened to my nexus one but it has happened to my past phones (iphone 3gs, i phone 3g, blackberry curve, blackberry bold, sidekick lx 2009, sidekick lx, etc) so i need a heavy duty case for my nexus one curve. it doesn't have to look sexy but i wouldn't mind if it did will to go up to $50 for it. so any suggestion guys?

Do a search for "BLACK RUBBER DUAL COVER CASE FOR HTC NEXUS ONE GOOGLE" on Ebay. Fantastic silicone/hard plastic case for $7.99 (i paid additional $3.99 for international shipping) which seems to give the N1 much better protection than the standard rubber cases (i have one of those "argyle" ones).
Othe than that, there's Case-mate tough (which i believe is very similar to the one on ebay, don't know if it's worth more than 3 times as much), Seidio Innocase and Otterbox has N1 cases coming out.

I have a Tough Case (pink/black), it looks pretty good and does feel pretty hefty, has some very good reviews too.
Overall fit is very good, nothing loose, all holes line up bang on. I do like that the buttons are covered, and that being covered doesn't affect their operation. Also comes with a screen protector which doesn't mess with the visual quality or useability of the screen, which surprised me.
Really don't have a bad word to say about it, other than it's quite expensive for a case, I'd probably nit have bought it if I didn't get a good price.

I went with the black/black. Whoa pink and black? Anyway this is a damn good case and I'd look into it if I were you.

im looking into that case mate and i got to say, im pretty damn impressed. im also impressed by the Otterbox $35 one. im guessing the otterbox is stronger.....but i think the case mate is sexy lol what you guys think???

I don't think you can go wrong with either.
One review on the case mate (tough case) website said that his phone survived a 35 foot drop to concrete. Someone in the general forum had a clear case that only covers the sides and back and it didn't even survive a 2 foot drop.

grrrr both are so tempting. they both look rather good. i guess i will buy the case mate for now (along with an invisibleshield for screen and body protection) and buy the otterbox some other time. hope the case mate tough case feels as good as it looks

also, i want fully body protection for the front, not just the screen. is the screen protector that case mate comes with enough? or is it better to get a full body invisibleshield?

Well, the screen protector by definition only covers the screen, however the silicon skin part of the case protrudes a few mm (as seen in above pic), which will protect the front in the event of a face-plant.

Yeah... I personally wanted gray on black but the gray hard case was sold out at the time (they may be back up to stock now though). If you do pick a tough case, let us know which colors you went with..

well see i had my heart set on the tough case but after seeing some reviews, i decided to go with Otterbox. when i had my iphone 3gs, i went to the apple store cuz my headphone jack stopped working. and the lady literally sat there for 20-30 minutes picking dusty and dirt and all this stuff out of the headphone jack and i seen the otterbox has those holes plugged up so yea thats my choice now lol i would have gone with all black or black n red. i might get it later on tho. n yea thats you lol i couldn't find a better quote to put on my sig

Do you use protection or do you go bare? Cases and screen protectors, you pervs...

I bought a gel skin and a screen protector at T-mobile in the mall today. Already took them both off because they made the phone look and feel like **** in my hand. Honestly, it felt like the same dimensions as an iPhone. Yuck.
I know I'm gonna drop it eventually, but it looks even ****tier in the case than it would with scratches, so **** it. This is such a sexy phone I just want to look at it all the time.
What's everyone else doing?

I have the red one... dude I couldn't stand to hold my phone for even 5 minutes without a case lol maybe I'm going through my babying phase but if I gotta be with this for next 2 years then I gotta keep it lookin new at all times. It's just too slick to me without a case imo

I can't stand a case either...I also can't stand the screen protector that they cut for the mt4g, cuz it is reduced glare and it seems you take away from the beautiful display. I use a leather holster that works well cuz usually when I drop my phone its usually cuz if falls out of my pocket....only draw back is its leaving black residue on my red finished part...

I didn't use protection and now I got a bunch of little mt3g's running around....

still nekkid. I'm just using the G1 sleeve. It fits the MT4G perfectly.

Bare back all the way, I would rather pay for an Insurance replacement If I dropped or scratched the display. But I will not cover its natural beauty with plastic or rubber.
Coming from a Vibrant I realize that my only downgrade is the display, Everything else is an upgrade, So why would I further reduce this display with plastic or rubber. I keep one pocket empty at all times, the only thing I use this pocket for is my MT4G.

Ordered carbon fiber phantom skinz for mine, it lives in the plastic holster from tmo. Will post some shots when it arrives and gets cozy with my mt4g

Nothing all the way around. That said, I'd like to try a clear "protector" for the battery plate so as to make it a little grippier. I had one for my iphone 3g, which helped immensely. Anyone know of one that might fit the battery plate?

+1 on the desk dock. No pic handy, but it's just the basic black gel skin they sell at the T-mobile stores.

Completely agree! I paid for this sexy piece of hardware, why would I cover it up with a big rubber sock?!

Agreed! The screen protector they gave me sucks. For iphones they have screen protectors that cover the entire front of the device, right? That's more what I had in mind.
Something similar for the rear isn't a bad idea.

I use the T-Mobile gel case and a Realook screen protector. Although I rarely ever drop my phones, the gel case gives me peace of mind. Unfortunately, it does take away from the phone's aesthetic values.

Yeah, peace of mind is why I bought it. It also feels clunky and bulky in the hand with the case on. Yuck.

The only protection I would consider for my phone is maybe a thin screen protector, or maybe a Golden Shellback coating to make it waterproof.

no case because it makes the phone too bulky. i do use a realook screen protector though, cant even tell its on there.

I've got the white hardshell with the thin rubber sleeve case on mine. It came with a screen protector that I've managed to scratch the heck out of somehow. It's a nice case and doesn't add much bulk to the phone. Generally I like to use the phone without a case but from past experience with rubber coating on plastic (Blackberry Bold) rubbing off, I opted for a case.

Built neoprene case
I just got one of the Built neoprene sleeves. I really dislike the always-on cases for phones, but this is perfect. I put a review up on the amazon page, but can't link to it since I haven't posted enough.

Unusual wear using Body Glove case

So I've had the Body Glove case for about a week now. It's the one with the removable belt clip/kickstand. Anyway, around the rear speaker I now have some indentations caused by the case. They appear to be permanent scratches. Kind of bugging the **** out of me. Can anyone with this case, take theirs off and see if they have the same issue?

Thanks for the info indeed! I just looked at my phone due to your pics and I do see some minor indentations as well around the speaker like you and also around the camera. Not too bad, I can hardly see them, but I know they are there. I'm getting some other back cases in to cover it up but if I wasn't I would have bought those replacement covers on ebay.
To all, please check your phones! I'm removing this blasted case now...argh...

Edit: I felt this info would be pertinent enough to start an individual thread for it. If anyone feels leaving this post here in this thread is inappropriate, let me know and I will remove it.

Hopefully this thread will help people avoid that case. I use the black gel that's sold in the tmobile stores and I actually really like this case. I hated the gel for the hd2, but I used it just because. This one I actually keep on it all the time. It's that nice imo.

I have the same problem on mine too. I'm gonna get the black gel case tomorrow.

There are 2 solutions...one invisishield your device or stop using the case...what a bummer. I really love this case. I'm gonna do an exchange here soon and I'll invisishield it first and see the difference.

I've had similar indentation problems with the other two-tone Body Glove case (no kickstand) that T-Mobile sells but around the 3.5mm headphone jack on top instead. After a couple days with the case off the indentations have gone away. I haven't put the case back on.
Trying to figure out if I should keep it naked or look for a different case to replace the Body Glove.

I also have the Body Glove case w/kickstand - but haven't seen this problem. Had it for about 2 weeks. Just took it off to check.
I'm gonna try not to worry about it.
Kind of feel like any hard case that comes out especially the tight ones, or even some of the gel cases will end up leaving a mark on the device in some way.

Hi all,
I stand corrected and noticed the blemish by the speaker today. Very slight but there.
Is everyone planning on returning the Body Glove case w/kick stand? I am on the fence about returning the case - doesn't seem to be in any other areas and I figure I've had it on for the past 2 1/2 weeks so any other blemishes probably would have shown up by now.

Not returning mine. I got mine from wirelessground.com and for the price I personally do not think it's worth returning the case. I have since removed the case and awaiting a few barely there type cases from china.
But I already have a universal clip pouch that I bought from ebay which works well in protecting the phone IMO. Its kind of bulky but I cannot complain whereas I dropped my phone (about 3 feet high) the other night in the case and held up excellent.

Hey guys I work at a t-mobile corp retail store and all t-mobile stores should havegotten an email to pull the bodyglove two tone cases off the shelves. There is a fitment issue as well as what you guys are pointing out. Just an fyi I guess! GL

For the case being pulled, are you talking about the body glove icon case without the kickstand? I think that was mentioned on the other body glove thread and has caused some confusion because body glove has 2 different cases for the sensation. 1 with kickstand and 1 without.

No, I think it's just the two tone body glove cases, because they leave a gap when put on the phone between the two parts of the case.
good thing tmo recognized it, though!

manufacturing flaw i suppose.. ive had mine on for 2 weeks now and had no issue with that, compared cases and your plastic looks imbezzled pointing inside the case causing the cuts, mine doesnt have that.. guess im lucky @[email protected]

i noticed that too, it took an act of God himself to put my case on the first time! but after a while of taking it off and putting it back on it became a little easier

Yeah the first email we all got was special instructions of how to put the case on. You are supposed to put the top left corner of the phone in first and then snap the other side in. I believe it has something to do with the curved glass. To be specific on which cases are being pulled from the shelves they are the two tone bodyglove cases that come in a pink or a grey.

Video Review: Quibits / Basal Enterprises FlexVue TPU Case

I haven't seen any videos of this case, so I thought I'd put together a quick review for you guys. It's a pretty neat case, I kind of prefer it to the TPU-Cases model, I just wish the top was completely covered.
Also, the title should read "qubits" not "quibits".

Love the video, looks very professional. On a quick note. I wanted to point out that Yoobao has a somewhat similar TPU case with that missing top part that you mention was missing cover.

Well, I purchased it and received it yesterday. I love the darn thing. The screen protector was cut out for the device, because it has the cut out exactly where the light sensor is. (I also installed and had 0 problems with the installation.)

I have this Yoobao but I decided I wanted to keep the cheapie kickstand case. I still haven't opened it to test it. I can do that or if you want I can sell it to anyone here for 10bux shipped, if you are in the USA. I posted this in the marketplace, but I do not think many others venture out of the device forums lol

That Yoobao you posted is exactly what I'm looking for because I want a clear case to show off the phone's design. If the fit is tight and the cutouts all align nicely I'm purchasing it immediately lol.

It fits like a glove, no flimsiness and not loose at all! Every single cutout is made EXACTLY where it needs to be. I was amazed by that.

Thanks for the review. Looks like a better case than the rubber one I got from T-Mobile for $20. The case is too loose around the sides. I already scraped the side with my key. I will be buying one of these TPU's.

1 more question: how long did it take for you to get it? I really want to try it out, but I'm leaving for college in 13 days, so the fact that it's shipping from Hong Kong kinda makes me worried that I wouldn't get it in time.

i got similar case ( black , not transparent and slightly different in design) as OP from amazon for $5.99 with free 2 days shipping ( 4 bucks cheaper ^^). This is really good case, fit tight and look awesome. As OP said,only weak point is that this case doesn't cover the top ( i guess they decide to design this way so you can put in/ or take off the case easier. I have similar type of this case for my mytouch 4G, my nexus S and it is a little bit more difficult to take the case off or put it in) This is always my first choice when i buy my phone's case.

This is honestly the best case I've ever used. Fits perfectly, adds a nice feel to the phone (I don't feel like it will snap in my hand anymore).

Looks pretty nice can you post some pics of your actual device in it? I prefer consumer pics over staged ones.

that looks like a beast! big but protective. that black tempered glass looks cool, how's the overall size compared to the phone? any way you can take a picture of the phone out of the case and place it next to it?:good:

The case adds very little to the over all size. It does weight more but feels solid. You actually remove the battery cover and replace it with the carbon fiber texture back battery cover. Again the nicest case Ive ever seen for any phone. I get people asking all the time what phone I have and half the time they have an S4. I started they strangers I got the limited edition S4 lol:silly:

Looks cool but i wont buy any case without a kickstand. Im currently rocking a case for a totally diff phone that i altered due to button placement just cause it had a kickstand. Once u use an htc u cant go without it

I had an EVO 4g and believe me or not my son use it as his tablet (his 7) to this day. I loved that phone but most of the phone case for the S4 with kick stands look and feel cheap and plastic. For work I spend a lot of time selling in and out of offices ( the truth is I like looking right/good, House looking right, car looking right, watch looking right, glasses/sun glasses looking right, hair looking right and of course my phone GOT to be looking right) This case adds little to the size of the phone and it gets rid of the plastic look and feel because usually I rock the phone naked. Phone is in my hand now,"I feel Glass, Metal and carbon fiber (most likely fake)"= awesome. I know what your saying but this case look and feels FU%*ing right lol. Im not joking people ask me so much "what phone do you have" that now I tell them I got a limited edition S4 and they believe me.

I do hate how cheap our phone feels compared to the aluminum of the htcs. Case im usin now is just more plastic and im not really a fan of otterbox

I just checked the Low pro cases website and I guess their out of the tempered black glass screen protector

For me is the Spigen Neo Hybrid. Simply, the best.

Looks nice but it will affect your reception.

I haven't noticed any signal lose, I still get one bar at my moms house. I had a metal bumper case from eBay before this one and didn't have a problem with that one either. If i remember right the antenna isn't in the frame/edge of the phone like an iPhone.

that is a nice looking case, i still think the samsung bumper case is one of the nicest cases I have used so far, that and the dyconn battery case.

Seems sold out or at least no longer listed
Bummer, that really was a lovely looking case. I'd never heard about it before your post, and now that I want it and need it, I can't have it.

I agree but it does help keep the price down.
