heavy duty case for nexus one?

well i have been searching around and no luck. when im at home, i got a rubber case for it since i tend to not drop my phone at home. but when im out, i tend to forget about my phone and drop it. now this hasn't happened to my nexus one but it has happened to my past phones (iphone 3gs, i phone 3g, blackberry curve, blackberry bold, sidekick lx 2009, sidekick lx, etc) so i need a heavy duty case for my nexus one curve. it doesn't have to look sexy but i wouldn't mind if it did will to go up to $50 for it. so any suggestion guys?

Do a search for "BLACK RUBBER DUAL COVER CASE FOR HTC NEXUS ONE GOOGLE" on Ebay. Fantastic silicone/hard plastic case for $7.99 (i paid additional $3.99 for international shipping) which seems to give the N1 much better protection than the standard rubber cases (i have one of those "argyle" ones).
Othe than that, there's Case-mate tough (which i believe is very similar to the one on ebay, don't know if it's worth more than 3 times as much), Seidio Innocase and Otterbox has N1 cases coming out.

I have a Tough Case (pink/black), it looks pretty good and does feel pretty hefty, has some very good reviews too.
Overall fit is very good, nothing loose, all holes line up bang on. I do like that the buttons are covered, and that being covered doesn't affect their operation. Also comes with a screen protector which doesn't mess with the visual quality or useability of the screen, which surprised me.
Really don't have a bad word to say about it, other than it's quite expensive for a case, I'd probably nit have bought it if I didn't get a good price.

I went with the black/black. Whoa pink and black? Anyway this is a damn good case and I'd look into it if I were you.

im looking into that case mate and i got to say, im pretty damn impressed. im also impressed by the Otterbox $35 one. im guessing the otterbox is stronger.....but i think the case mate is sexy lol what you guys think???

I don't think you can go wrong with either.
One review on the case mate (tough case) website said that his phone survived a 35 foot drop to concrete. Someone in the general forum had a clear case that only covers the sides and back and it didn't even survive a 2 foot drop.

grrrr both are so tempting. they both look rather good. i guess i will buy the case mate for now (along with an invisibleshield for screen and body protection) and buy the otterbox some other time. hope the case mate tough case feels as good as it looks

also, i want fully body protection for the front, not just the screen. is the screen protector that case mate comes with enough? or is it better to get a full body invisibleshield?

Well, the screen protector by definition only covers the screen, however the silicon skin part of the case protrudes a few mm (as seen in above pic), which will protect the front in the event of a face-plant.

Yeah... I personally wanted gray on black but the gray hard case was sold out at the time (they may be back up to stock now though). If you do pick a tough case, let us know which colors you went with..

well see i had my heart set on the tough case but after seeing some reviews, i decided to go with Otterbox. when i had my iphone 3gs, i went to the apple store cuz my headphone jack stopped working. and the lady literally sat there for 20-30 minutes picking dusty and dirt and all this stuff out of the headphone jack and i seen the otterbox has those holes plugged up so yea thats my choice now lol i would have gone with all black or black n red. i might get it later on tho. n yea thats you lol i couldn't find a better quote to put on my sig

I was looking at the korean mesh cases too (red), but they're a bit pricey on ebay.
I am currently using a silicon cover which is nice for protection, but it makes the phone look a little bit fat and ugly lol.

I saw a Korean mesh case today in a shopping centre here in a Korean phone accessory store of course. It was extremely thin and fit snugly to the phone. It adds a wow factor for it's design. The red colour stands out more than the black of course, but the black also looks great. At AUD$18 which is actually cheaper than buying off ebay which is AUD$20.50.
In terms of protection, it's a back scratch protector and adds grip, it won't offer any falling protection like a silicone case will.
What I do like about it is, unlike the silicone cases which are quite bulky, the sides of the case are almost flat across the face of the phone. This makes it a real pleasure to swipe the phone to unlock and slide to different home screens. I find my fingers getting caught on the sides of the silicone case I have currently.

Saw a bunch of those hard cases at a shop yesterday. Don' think they had an orange one though. I remember seeing a black one, a white one, and a red one. They were selling them for HK$ 30 each.

how long did it take the case to get to you?

less than a week

Bought the Orange one yesterday and will hopefully give feedback about it soon. I so wanted the white one too, oh well, let's see if the quality's nice.

Got the casing and I can say that this is a fantastic but for the price. The hard gel casing does provide better protection but I've found a new affection for my device thanks to this.
I can also use the volume rocker easily now.

No problem. I have the Spigen case so I can't say much about the Case Mate one. The opening for the camera on the Spigen sticks out a bit more so it offers some protection to the lens.
There's a trade off between the two. The case mate fits better but you lose out on lens protection. There's a small gap on the top left and right when I have the Spigen on the phone and the cutout for the flash is misaligned but the case feels really good in your hands and the flash doesn't seem to be affected.
Another option is this which is similar to the case mate.

On a side note: Having to wait 2 minutes before I can edit my post is really lame...

I've been using this for about a week now and am quite happy with it. I used Nillkin minimal cases on my last 2 phones and this one seems to offer A LITTLE bit more coverage. More than the Case-Mate as well. The edges don.t raise higher than the screen though so a screen protector is a must (one comes with it). Ill share pics if youd like.

Think I'm gonna get the Incipio Feather since it gives the best edge protection and it also seems to be made of the same (kinda) material as the C740, which has a really nice feel to it.
Btw, some additional options I found (sorry, not allowed to post links):
* Krusell ColorCover (not enough edge protection)
* Twins Shield Mesh (not enough edge protection and I don't know about the material)

Imo the best slim hard case is the Amzer shellster. I have that and the barely there. They are almost exactly the same except the shellster covers the camera very nicely. Lemme know if you want pics

I'm happy with it. I kinda forget it on there half the time. I haven't dropped my phone or anything so I can't comment on impact resistance.

None of my plugs have a problem snapping into place.

Does anybody know if the spigen case in white matches the white on the HOX? Reason I ask is because I have the white speck case, and it doesn't match at all so I never use it. It's just one of those things that bother me...

Matches very well.
You kinda sound like me. While the color of the Spigen case looks close to the white on the HOX, the fitment isn't great. It bugs me and I know it'll bug you. Lol.

False info here the cutouts are fine and work perfectly. This case is my daily driver and I love it.

Mercury is a Korean brand, and it is "产地:韩国,MADE IN KOREA". Of course, this being taobao, it could also end up being an imitation.

Found it searching "mercury e960" on eBay.

The blue & green is really cool ! The problem with this sort of case it's that changes the way to hold the phone, it's less comfortable.

I know right! I'm using a similar case for my tablet, and I take it out whenever I'm at home. For the Nexus 4 though, that could be a very dangerous thing to do... Then again, with the current case I'm using, the bulk makes it difficult to have a one-hand operation anyway.

Ordered this case on Monday from ebay, just waiting for it to arrive from Korea to Singapore. Ordered Lime green/Navy blue and Mint/Navy blue. Will post again once I receive it.

This case is pretty good. The tpu inside is a tight fit and the speaker, cut outs are ample and precise. The colours are pretty funky too. This is the mint/navy blue version. Just received it today

Liking it so far. I think it's worth getting as it can protect the front screen although the power buttons are little tough to reach but it's possible to get used to. Using proximity screen off so that's not really an issue for me

Realize this thread is a little old but I just received mine today and am pleasantly surprised. I have tried a couple of flip cases for my Nexus 4 (Poetic, PDair) and have been disappointed. This one is nicely made, feels good, and has a nice magnetic clasp. I especially like the fact that, if you choose to put credit cards in it, the edges of the embedded TPU case prevent the cover from coming in contact with the screen.
It only failed one requirement I had for such a case... and that is easy removal. Since the back of the TPU case is covered with the hard wallet material, it makes it a bit tougher to get the Nexus out. But considering I have yet to be pleased with any of the other flip cases this is now no longer one of my requirements. A steal for under 10 bucks!

Otherwise check out the tetded flip cover, I'm using it atm. And am very happy with it, made a review in the accessories section

I'm located near Shenzhen China and have been to the stores, which are actually entire buildings, where they manufacture and sell these cases.
These cases are essentially replicas, but they definitely do a good job of copying the real mercury cases, down to the very minute details. Some stores have better replicas than others, for example these Fancy Diary cases may have the threading skipped on the edges, fraying, or discoloration. Here at ground zero, you can pick these cases up in bulk for $15 - $20 RMB which is slightly over $2 USD on average.
Not saying these cases aren't worth it, but just thought it would be interesting to let you know where these cases came from. Being that the price was so cheap, I definitely picked up a few cases myself for friends and family without even thinking twice.

Not being able to decide, which from the two should I pick. Any suggestion?

The top one cause I don't like the green in the bottom one. Not a big fan of bright neon colors. The top one looks classy and the bottom looks like a toy IMHO.

I have the blue/green and I love it! Perfect fit and the colours it's nice together, not too bright neongreen.

I love Speck cases but they need more options. Only two colors for the Pixel XL. Black or Clear.

Pricey!! Good cases though. Just not sure I'll pay that much for a case anymore. Too many cheaper options that are as good

Got my black one for the XL on order from vzw.com. With my discount it was like $29. I'll post pics when it comes in.

Got the Presidio case in and i like it. It's similar to the old Grip cases that Speck makes. I've attached a few pics with size comparisons to the Moto Z Force and a 1st gen Moto X. Now I just need the phone!! :good:

I like the clear case, however I cannot find anywhere in Canada selling Speck? Amazon.ca only has iphone and speck.com doesn't ship internationally... that stuff drives me ape.

the best thing about this case? when you drop it, it bounces. almost like a rubber ball soft corners help with that). i feel super comfortable and i'm not not as careful when handling the xl now.
had the spigen ultra hybrid, clear speck, official google clear, and official google gray/black. this is easily the best of them all...imo.

yep. not sure how to get a discount though. sometimes with these case manufacturers you can leave an item in the cart and partially go through the purchase process (quit the purchase right before confirming the order) and they'll email you a percentage off. other times of you subscribe to their mailing list they'll give you a percentage off. didn't try it in this instance however. of course getting a discount on it at the vzw store won't happen.

I can confirm that this is the blue case for the XL. I got mine in this morning. It looks good.

I kind of love it.
I came from the spigen rugged armor and this is a little bigger, but not by much at all. It fits well and it does not seem to add that much bulk over all. Also the keys are responsive to the touch and I think the grips are set into the case a little better. With my last Spec case I had some of the grips peal, this one feels sturdier. It goes on and comes off pretty easy, but it doesn't feel like it's going to fall off. It's definitely my new daily driver.

I got my clear case with the Silver XL and it looks great. Coming from a Nexus 6 with no case, it's not too big at all. In fact, after I put the case on this, they're almost the same exact size. Got mine for about $35 after a 25% discount at the Verizon store. I know it's a crazy amount of money, but the case is great.

I got the Black Presidio on ebay. New In Box $19.99 when Speck and Verizon charge $45. Wish they had the blue though. I think it looks good with the quite black
