Bad reception overnight? Cm7 stable - HTC Inspire 4G

Hey guys,
All of a sudden overnight my phone gets horrible reception at home and bumps back from edge to no service at all..dropping calls and data. I use to get 3-4 bars H constantly. My cousin has same inspire with cm7 and has no issues at my house. I tried flashing the stock radio again and clean cm7 install. Nothing worked and was going to restore to stock....but I went to another city today to visit and I have full bar H over here. Any ideas what is going on? Never had reception issues and I've been using all cm7 since rc1 with no issues..not sure if the radio is somehow tweaked?

try flashing a new radio
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1028044

I was going to try to do that, but curious why it was fine for months and then overnight tweaked. I was really happy with stock radio GPS lock/battery life/reception, so I'm a little hesitant to switch when I think it could be something like a setting/entry that got messed up?

i am not familiar with CM7.
but my experience shows that stock radio reception is poor compared with the new Gingerbread radios.

Is reflashing a radio file bad?

I'm having much higher than normal current draws while idle after flashing back to the froyo radio from GB entirely. I'm wondering if something went odd while flashing. I want to try reflashing but I've heard that on the Dinc this was bad. Is it also bad for the bolt?
I was running the new LTE/3G radio combo before GB and getting 34-40mA idle current with data off. Now I'm 120-230mA. This is with my old backups and newly loaded roms with no previous apps and settings.
But if I switch to 3G only using LTEon/off app the current goes back to normal. But if it's on 4G it's high. This wasn't the case previously. 3G and LTE used to pull the same current idle.
Really? I thought gb radios were way more effient than froyo. Are you sure you have the sync settings right and everything?

I was on GB, now on Froyo completely.
My pre-GB current draws on Froyo were less than my post-GB draws on Froyo. That's the issue I'm having.

4G dropping in and out constantly?

I've used both the MR2 and 2.5 radios and both have the same issue. Whenever it's loading something 4G drops in and out constantly. The icon disappears and then reappears. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm in the Chicago area so getting a 4G signal.isn't an issue.

well, i had consistant 3G signal in a known 4G area. started out all good, with solid 4G, then slowly started to loose 4G all together. drop data completely ect. then i could just not pick up 4G unless i had full bars, and even then, it was slow (around 5mbps downloads)
tried a new SIM card, nothing
got a new phone yesterday and everything is perfect now. we'll see how it is after a couple weeks though.

Could be. I know that without a battery cover on my phone, I can only get 1x. So you may be on to something. Check the contacts on the cover to make sure they are not bent and getting good contact inside.
I am not in 4g area but I am having same issues on 3g, it will just cut out randomly, it will stop downloads, it will disconnect me from gtalk. I am on mr2.5 radio. Think its Verizon/ LTE issues, but its getting old.

I"m in chicago and have this ****ing issue as well. it's really pissing me off. happens when i tether and load too many pages at once on the computer. 4g disappears for a second or two then reappears, but i can't connect to internet on the tethered computer. speedtest app on phone will work just fine. running the test and tethering--4g disappears. running test alone- a ok. Are you tethering when the 4g disappears?
I was running the mr2, mr2.5 radios on gb roms (synergy, das bamf, 2.1, 3.0 , gingeritis) all have issues. an hour ago i switched to the froyo radio and das bamf 1.8 and so far so good.
still don't know if it's ****ty connection here in chicago, bad ****ing radio (gb ones) or verizon trying to block my tethering. i will get back after more tethering to see if it disappears.
i did also try to overclock, undervolt, change the speeds to no avail.
posted my solution on another thread, here it is again
well i solved all of my tethering problems by going back to froyo. am now on bamf 1.8 remix and loving it. tether works like it should and even works with the screen off. something is off inthe gb kernal that forces tether to close when screen is off. slight remedy is to up the processor speed, until you lose the 4g signal lol.
i think i'll just wait for the official gb, need the internet and all.

[Q] Service drops

Hey guys,
I'm running InfinityROM on my Charge. Throughout the day, I'll look at my phone and see that there is no mobile data (4g) coming to my phone, theres no bar to judge what is coming in or anything. If I turn mobile data on and off sometimes it will come back after 4-5 minutes, otherwise a restart brings it back. But it gets really annoying trying to get on the internet for a quick answer and it turns out to be a 10 minute procedure to get what I needed. What's going [email protected][email protected]?
For some reason maybe the Sim went bad.
I've been having that problem too. Seems that its been getting better through.

I feel like it may be infinity rom, once I installed it the service drops began, I lost root access, phone has just been overall freaking out. Should I just reroot from scratch? Or just do another rom?

You should try tweakstock rom, it's the best, very stable, not service or lte drops. Infinity has quite a bit of weird issues. I have tried infinity, eclipse and tweakstock, I found tweakstock is the best since it's very close to stock rom.
For now, i would agree with the suggestions of Tweakstock. Until Eclipse is fully finished (with Eclipse Parts) it is the best.

Service drops are not typically associated with any particular rom really. It may be a network issue in your area, a sim card problem, etc. - but it's extremely doubtful that what rom you are running would influence this. I suppose I can only speak of tweakstock, but I've done nothing to it that in any way changes service/connection functions compared to plain-old stock.

Yes, the previous post is 100% correct. This service drops has something to do with your radio and hardware. I would Odin back to stock with PIT file, then try and see if you still have the issue. I had this issue in the beginning and I was a noob then, I called Verizon, they first send me a new SIM card, that's not working and finally they send me another phone, still same issue. then GB 2.3.6 leaks arrived and I flash this before the OTA....and yes it fixed my call drops issue. And that is the last thing I heard of calls drop for my Charge. Yours maybe different but in order to pinpoint the issue go all the way back to original stock and if the issue persist then call Verizon for another phone.

Random Signal Drops?

I get random signal drops on the stock T-Mobile 2.3.4 rom. I have updated to the March Baseband using the LG updater tool. I just got this phone 2 days ago and I was wondering if there are any fixes for this?
Sometimes I jump from 4g > 2g.
Sometimes I jump from 4 bars > No signal.
These both happen even if I'm not moving.

I'm on stock 2.3.4 not rooted nor have been rooted. No cwm flashed. As for wifi, the wifi never cuts out; however, while on wifi the service still cuts on and off, from full bars to no service or from full bars to 0 bars.

See if you can bring yourself back to the July baseband. You may have to go without 2.3.4, but you could get yourself a better functioning phone instead. Lol.
Once on that, maybe try a stock 2.3.3, OR a custom rom.
I'd suggest flashing cwm and trying qwes 2.3.4 .. then use titanium backup to freeze the bloat or remove it. Prolly wont help, but its worth a shot before downgrading the BB.
I had hella issues with 2.3.3 which led me to xboarders modified stock without bloat and most of my issues went away...
Then I went to cm7 and had no issues at all. (Unfortunately the new bb doesn't work with cm yet)

The only time I have had that issue was with arcee's selfkangs of ics/CM9. But once I switched to aokp, I didn't have any issues with signal dropping.
This phone was a **** show for T-Mobile and LG. To be honest with you, the phone functions way better with custom roms. Cm7 with faux kernel (stock voltage) and I didn't have an issue.
The quality control on these phones was prolly crap. You may have to play the mix and match game with roms and kernels.

Try Hellfire Phoenix.
I know you said you don't want to do custom ROMs, and I'm guessing you'd rather avoid rooting (since you said it wasn't currently rooted), but honestly...you're not going to have a good experience w/your G2X unless you do.
I bought my G2X, when they first came out, and haven't been happy with any of the Tmo/LG updates/releases. Including the 2.3.4. I have noticed better GPS lock w/the 2.3.4 release, but I'm also getting random signal drops, and having issues with wifi calling...even on kwes ROM. (I should mention that kwes 2.3.4 is far more stable than the LG release)
The best experience I had, was with WeaponG2X (2.3.3/July bb). It was stable as hell, and had lots of nice extras. I may end up going back to that. However, I have also noticed, through my years w/Tmo, that I will get signal drops off and on for awhile, then they stop. So, it could be that Tmo is messing with their towers or equipment, and it's not actually our phones. If my issues persist, I may give up the better GPS lock, and go back to Weapon & the older bb. For now, I'm going to wait it out a bit.
Good luck w/your G2X.

Well, I really don't want to flash any custom roms unless it's ICS. I have AOKP on my Hp Touchpad and I love it; however, on all ICS builds the camera isn't working (namely AOKP, which is the rom of my choice). Since the camera isn't working on CM9/ICS builds I won't flash them since I use the camera regularly.
Now about CWM, I just flashed using NVFlash the experimental touchscreen version and I rooted my phone using SuperOneClick. I'm now in the process of removing tmobile bloatware (ex. WIFI Calling, Mobile apps, etc).
Anyway, I'll report back with the results.

I leave for work about 130 and when I get off at 11 I would have about 60 to 65% battery left. On breaks and lunch I use the piss outta the phone.
With 2.3.3 I would get about 7 hours and it would die..
With 2.3.4 I have about 50% left at the end of work.
I can't wait till the new baseband is compadible with aokp, I've got really high expections for the battery life.
With cm9 kangs (i hate to even call aokp a kang, but it is in the name) the free app videocam illusion ( I think that's the name) allows video recording but the quality isn't best, but it works. The native camera apps will take pics, but forces closes on video.
Id run aokp see how that does. Then if its all good, try fauxs kernals. Keep in mind before flashing a kernal, backup ur rom. Just in case fauxs kernal has issue.. ( I can run faux kernals with stock voltage, when I do the undervolt, I have issues... some phones can handle it, others can't).
Hope my rambling helps.

Deleting bloatware on stock kernal didn't help, so I switched to AOKP. So now I'm testing that out to see if I still get the random signal drops. If a custom rom doesn't help I'm going to try a new SIM card, maybe the one I'm using sucks.

Phone gets wicked hot while browsing through network

I recently flashed CleanRom 4.5 beta and noticed that when I use data and am not on wifi that my phone gets wicked hot. If I turn wifi on it will cool right down. I thought it was the rom so I tired a different rom and I'm still getting the same result. It even gets hotter after I turn the screen off. Anyone else have this issue? I'm hoping it's just the radio and not a problem with my phone. I flashed a different radio and it seemed to do the same thing so I don't know.

Have you tried to 2.23 radio, on which the ROM is based? Are you on LTE? One user mentioned LTE not working until he flashed the 2.23 radio. Maybe that has something to do with your heat problem?

I don't have LTE where I live. Also, it's not just doing it on that rom. I've noticed it on another rom also. It's weird because as soon as I turn wifi on it gets cooler. I'm gonna run the ruu and not flash any radios and see if that helps it.

I think it might be as simple as mobile data usage being a much more significant battery drain that WiFi data usage. Batteries heat up when they discharge, so if the battery is discharging faster, the phone will get that much hotter - it'll be even worse if you have poor reception and you're trying to use mobile data.
