Well i'm new to this forum and i've got my Huawei ascend about 1 month ago [recently learned about moding a few days ago].I rooted my phone with Z4root.By now i've replace my theme with gingerbread, changed my keyboard, and Changed my icons with Launcher Pro I love it.But i've used a program called "Boot animation installer" and it works but it works too well.I've installed a random animation from the pre-set list but I do not like this animation,I left it alone.
About an hour later I learned about custom loaders through stalking XDA XD.I liked one in specific and wanted to change it.I downloaded the zip and it showed up in the boot loader I clicked it,installed it but when I rebooted my loader was the same!I even tried going into system>media and deleted the current animation but it still shows the same one. What can I do to uninstall the current unwanted bootloader and replace it with the new one?I hope i don't have to format.
I apologize if this was in the wrong section or has already been asked I am new to XDA and the world of rooting/modding ect.
All help appreciated!

Hi to all xda members, 2 days ago I acquired a sprint htc hero already rooted and modded with cyanogenmod 6 android 2.2, the phone runs great everything works on it via wifi etc...., I called sprint to activate the phone and they gave me instructions, the first was to find the system update or update profile option under settings about phone, well this option does not appear on my phone u deer about phone, and I could not find it anywhere else in the settings menu, so we moved to the dial pad and the gave me three codes each starting with ## and ending with #, none of the codes opened the magic menu that the sprint engineer was expecting, at that point they concluded the phone may have a hardware issue and cannot be activated, they suspect the phone possibly was flashed for use with another service like metrics and flashed back to sprint thus causing chipsets damage, something about changing frequencies making it unactivateable by sprint, now maybe there is another way to activate a modded phone like this that I'm not aware of, so I hope u guys can show me the right way to activate with my sprint phone and data plan a rooted sprint htc hero running cyanogenmod 6 android 2.2
One last note, I have searched on xda and cyanogenmod forums with no luck, it seems his is not an issue with others, I have not found a way to mod the phones MDN and MSID which I think are the essential mods to activate the phone, and it was modes with the clockwork app
Thanks in advance
Joemango
you need to flash to a non cyanogenmod rom, such as fresh, and your ## codes will work, when you are complete, flash back to cyanogen.
edit: for a future FYI... this post really belongs in Q&A

That is correct... you'll need a sprint HTC sense rom for it to function.
Make a nandroid backup, flash NFX's stock ROM. Activate it. And then use your nandroid backup to go back to CM6.
Good Luck,
Tee Jay
wow! quick replies, should i use the Deodexed or oxed version of nfx's stock? and can i flash using ROM manager which is currently on the phone? if not then what method should i use to flash nfx first then after activation flash back cyanogenmod 6 which is already backed up on the sd card and usable with rom manager
i would use the odexed version no real differences just the odex one is going to boot a little faster

seein as you did label this [Q] this is posted in the wrong section. The fact that even after someone told you all you did was say "WOW FAST RESPONSES", Shows you have no respect for the rules. PLUS you didnt read the sticky at the top of this development section and only want to get your question answered and then go on.
I understand your new and most people cant say that..i see you just joined this month so i will give a lil slack to ya..lol(j/p man your good). I also saw you said THANKS IN ADVANCE on your first post so my apologies for that if i seem like im coming off as an arrogant *ick or something like that. Please tho in the future can you post questions in the correct forums.
AND I WOULD SUGGEST myself the odexed version, ive used it and like others it does boot faster and seems for me to run just a lil smoother. Good luck with getting your phone activated...the Hero when done right is a very amazing phone. Glad to have you among the community!
hello all, well I fixed it, the phone is activated and running caynogenmod 6!. Below are the steps i took to activate, I hope this helps others in a similar situation.
Before anything, I made a full system backup and saved on my sd card using nandroid, using a how to on the cyanogen website, just search on google for "Howto: Nandroid Backup - CyanogenMod Wiki"
1. downloaded Sprint.STOCK.2.31.651.7.ODEX_signed.zip from the net
2. plugged my sd card adapter into comp via usb and copied .zip file to root directory
3. put sd card back in phone and turned on phone.
4. ran ROM Manager and chose Install from SD Card
5. Chose the zip file, chose the "wipe" option, did not choose the "backup" option and hit Ok
6. The phone reboots into recovery mode (RA) and automatically installed the ROM i downloaded.
7. in RA mode, choose reboot system now
8. The new ROM fired up with no problems
9. I called Sprint and activated the phone using the update profile option under menu->settings->about phone
10. once activation was complete I wend to android market on the phone and downloaded/installed ROM manager free edition
11. I ran rom manager and went to backup/restore chose manage and restore backups chose the backup containing cyanogenmod 6 and pressed ok.
12. when restore completed i chose restart system (in RA mode) and voila, done, fini, as a last step i tested phone and data connections, all was fine.
one last note, I did all the rom manipulations with the phone on a wall charger to ensure power during these operations.
I hope others find this helpful, Im sorry if i posted in a the wrong forum, hopefully an admin can move this thread to a more suitable forum.
thanks for all your help, I look forward to contributing more, email me questions, comments, etc....

I just can't understand why any employee of sprint would even care. I go into my local Cellular South store and assist their employees with rooting their phones. They love me and can't understand why Cellular South doesn't offer this as a service.

I accidentally took a Hero and an Evo to the sprint store rooted with fully themed modded roms. The guy noticed instantly, he was cool and we talked about modding phones for a good 30mins. Then the next day my friends data wouldnt work so he called sprint and he accidentally told the lady the Hero was rooted, she joked about it and laughed and then told us how to fix the data and even how to get a brand new phone if we wanted to.

How do you get a brand new phone, lol ? PM me plz...
Just google search the sprint ruu and run it from pc. get the .5 and run universal androot. set up your phone and androot gives you access to reflash cm6 with the use of RomManager by clockwork mod.

Hi all, I just joined and have a question. I flashed the CBW update from my unbranded XT720 and now have CBW branding as the boot animation. I dl'd a boot animation prog and it disabled my touch screen, so a reflash was required. How would I remove the branding without losing my touch screen? I used BAC lite. Thank you in advance.
I haven't tried it but saw this. You can copy a bootanimation.zip to /system/media with Root Explorer or with Andoidiani Recovery you can set up a theme with nothing but a bootanimation.zip.
Thanks for that, but, it didn't seem to work for me. the download option goes to some website for hosting. then had to do a recovery to get it to start up again.
Download absolute system tools and find any boot animation you want

Thanks, someone else recommended this to me also. I will do it
works like a charm. the best $1.99 I have ever spent
I was wondering if it's safe to flash new ROM with a custom boot animation active?
I want to update my SynergyROM as it's gotten slow and clunky, though it's about 40 revision behind the times. I haven't messed with customizing my phone for months, however, and am a bit rusty. I downloaded the latest SynergyROM, made my backups, and was just wondering about this. In fact, I'm searching for my bootanimation.zip right now, not sure where I manually installed it... lol
Also, apparently there is a way to just flash boot images now? Anybody have a link to some solid info?
Thanks in advance!

bootanimation.zip is in /system/media, so it'll get formatted when you flash a new rom anyways.
I'm assuming you're referring to bootanimations or splash screens, not boot.img's ..... But then again confused by what you're asking. Bootanimations just need to be put in a zip and the updater-script push it to /system/media. Splash screens there's a thread explaining how-to.

Hey guys I'm going to try make this as brief as possible.
Here is what I did:
Bought Telecom NZ Atrix 2 running GB.
OTA Updated to ICS.
Attempted to flash the JB Leaked Rom for (ME) phones.
Unsuccessful.
Whenever turning the device on I would go straight to fastboot - but by going to the boot menu I could still access the ICS software.
--- Fast forward a few weeks ---
I decided to get GNow so I downloaded velvet and saved it to my sd card.
I then changed the permissions on build.prop - and changed one of the values from 15 to 16 (I believe it was Android Something System Number))
Rebooted.
Phone would boot to the Motorola logo then show a lit up black screen.
I flashed the stock telecom rom using restore-to-ics_win-batch. All files would successfully flash except from system.img, cdt.bin and mbmloader.
I then attempted with a retail South African Rom (6.7.2_EDEM-18-MEARET) this flashed alot of files but this time boot.img and a few other files were not flashed.
--- Today ---
I flashed back to the Telecom rom and cannot boot past the motorola logo. I can access AP-Fastboot and Recovery Mod. I can also charge my phone when I plug it in and boot it normally through the boot menu (it shows the charging battery in the middle of the screen).
---
Here are the questions.
Has anyone that has a Telecom Atrix 2 (or even a foreign person who knows the answer), know of a rom I can successfully flash to my phone in RSDLite or through a batch file that will work?
Or alternatively, can I mix and match parts within the roms - like swap the South African system.img, cdt.bin and mbmloaders into the New Zealand rom - then flash it.
I just want to have a working phone I'm sure someone can help me! If you made it this far thanks for reading!
Bump.
I know I shouldn't be bumping, but I'm stuck.
There was a post I made in another thread about how to manually flash the whole systems files. I think it was in a thread called "how to apply updates manually" or something like that. Sorry can't link it to you right now cause I'm on my phone.

I'll give it a search - let you now how it goes on!
My Atrix 2 is currently having some serious issues. Last night I rooted it. I changed the boot animation to what was supposed to be a human eye turned droid eye or something. When I rooted it and attempted to install Safestrap it didn't install correctly. As I am inexperienced with rooting android phones, I didn't think it'd hurt. I don't know if it did. When I rebooted to see the animation it just said android in silver letters with light flashing across it and it never got past that. I did several hard resets to see if that would fix it, after trying multiple battery pulls of course, and nothing. The phone is now dead and won't charge, when I plug it in it just shows the Motorola logo and doesn't do anything, but if I unplug it the logo doesn't go away. Help, please!

Phew, that was close. Hello and welcome to the help section of the A2 forum, for starters the trouble you're facing right now is called soft bricking. It's a very common problem, but is usually solved by flashing the correct ICS sbf for your region.
So firstly, is your phone branded AT&T or is it from another region? Please specify which. Next you need to recharge your battery externally either by an external battery charger or the Mcgyver method. (search the forum for more details).
After you've charged your battery up enough, put it back in your phone and put your phone into fastboot mode by holding the volume down button + power button and make sure it says 'Battery OK'.
After making it this far, you'll need RSD lite order to flash/install the sbf files. If everything goes fine without failure, then your phone will be back to stock and you've saved it! Here's a thread that has content that should guide you with further details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245825 Good luck!

As RSDLite was rebooting my phone I checked the forums and saw this! Hahah but thank you very much! This is pretty much exactly what I ended up doing. I posted this and then read up on the forums rules and some stuff and realized I should really learn to help myself if I want to . Took some time and a lot of mistakes but I put it together. Thank you very much for the reply.

You're welcome  I'm glad it all worked out for you in the end. I still remember the time earlier this year when I just got my phone, went crazy with mods and ended up softbricking it for a whole week. It was hell just to get it working again cuz RSD Lite decided to hate me from the get-go. -_-
So I'm glad to help others out with this, but enough rambling lol, take greater care for the next flashes you do until you get used to it!

Well now that you're back and rooted, if you're planning on doing any more flashing any time soon then I recommend you install boot menu manager. If you've previously installed safestrap or bootstrap, clear their data and uninstall them before installing bmm.
With that done, you've just made your phone a little safer from bricking because bmm allows multi rom booting, which are somewhat independent of the primary system. Refer to this thread for more info on how to make systems, etc.: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2115715
The first thing you'd want to do is make sure your apps/data is always backed up at all times with apps like titanium backup. Create 2 or more systems so that you can try the bmm compatible custom ROMs which are in the dev section if you want to try any of them. But please, read all instructions, warnings, requirements, etc. carefully before attempting any flashing in general.
The thread I posted in my earlier post above will have links to the specific custom ROMs. If you're doing any other kind of flashing, make sure to again, read instructions carefully and take your time with learning all of this.
Hi, I soft bricked my phone recently.
I was running stock ICS from Moto on a rooted Atrix 2. I wanted to upgrade it to JB so I installed Atrix 2 bootstrap and clicked Bootstrap Recovery (gave superuser permission) and then Reboot Recovery. It went into CWM and I wiped factory data and cache. Before I installed the JB zip I backed up my old ICS via CWM and then installed CyanogenMod-Dev-edison-nightly-20130401-2132-signed.591fan.com zip.
It was upgraded successfully to 4.2.2 but I couldnt get my updated contacts from the Super Recovery app, so I thought to restore the old ICS and backup the contacts once again. I installed Atrix 2 bootstarp apk again and went thought the same process ( Bootstrap recovery > gave Superuser permission > Reboot recovery). As soon as it rebooted the Motorola logo came on and after that the phone gave dark grey screen. I tried rebooting and going into CWM on startup but it didnt give the option of install zip from sd card as it did on my earlier attempt.
I am stuck with a bricked phone and all my work is stuck up.
I read about RSDlite but I have heard it causes hard bricking on several occasion. So, I am a bit cautious about using it and I dont know the exact procedure to use it also. Can you please guide me on how to regain my phone from this soft brick and where i went wrong during my installations.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance.
