Do all kernells work with all roms???:confused
htc desire
an does this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682419
work with the rom:RCMixHD
Not all kernels work for all ROM's. Some are made up for Froyo, and some for Gingerbread. I read the OP and I did not see any restrictions, so it is probably fine for 2.2 and 2.3. Also, make sure the kernel is for your phone. You cannot use a kernel made for another phone. Make a nandroid backup before you flash.
Edit: I just saw you have a desire and the phone was from the desire forum...soooo you should be good..but like I said, you should make a backup before flashing anything.
kernel
I'm currently running the COS-DS 2.3.3 ROM with the latest BiffMod 2.2.1 Kernel. It works better than the kernel, which comes with COS-DS, but not every kernel will work with every rom. It also depends on your phones hardware.
nope. the kernels are set for certain types of roms.

How about mix the 2.2 kernel with 2.3.3 userland?

coming from the captivate community so i dont know. i dont see why it shouldn't be. but i hear that only certain kernels are compatible with certain radios? and how could i flash a different kernel?
Works the same as the captivate. Kernels are compatible based on android os version, don't try to flash a gb kernel on a froyo rom, vice versa. They can be flashed via cwm. When in doubt read the op of the kernel thread.

So i'm currently running rubix focused 2.0.1 and I wanna try some other ones out as well. But they require certain kernels or that you at least be at or above a certain kernel version. My kernel version is 2.6.32.9. So do I have to sbf eveytime I wanna flash a new rom. For example I would like to install darkslide or liberty. What would I have to do to make my phone able to flash one of thoses?

Thx in advance
CWM is merely the acronym for ClockWork Mod, the recovery.

Ok i meant a kernel for a coredroid DHD rom, is there any kernels
I just made a post about this yesterday when some one was asking about battery life, but I will post again.
The only roms that have custom kernel are the ones who's source has beeen released, or have been built from source ie. Froyo builds, CM7 builds, Miui builds. None of the ginger bread roms based on the leaked DHD have custom kernels, and probably won't have custom kernels. HTC is more then likely not going to release the source to their leaked rom. Also when flashing kernels you don't not want to switch bases, meaning you don't want to flash a CM7 on Coredroid (gingerbread) or a Froyo based rom.
If your still a little confused about what a kernel is, think of it this way ( I forget who said it in a thread before me), but a Rom is what you see on the screen, and a Kernel is what makes it happen.

Very well it came out four days ago. Even though what I said is still true there still isn't a custom kernel from the dhd source, because HTC more then likely won't release it. Good to see they ported one though.

true, i'll give you that one. that's the nice thing about linux through it's open source nature makes for the ability to use one devices code to create a work of art for another device.
Coredroid is using leedroids latest custom kernel. It doesn't work well with 5.4 but works greatttttt with 6.0!!

I see all these kernels for CM7 and EB and TW ROMs but none for stock ROM. I'm sticking on stock ROM for a while mainly due to the LG camera app which I love and my GPS is fully functional which I use frequently. I'd love to have an OC kernel or just a kernel in general to flash on the stock ROM. Does one exist that I didn't see in the dev section? Thanks!
you should try eaglesblood 1.0.4 froyo because that is pretty much like stock with some optimization. You can flash EB 1.0.4Froyo directly over stock without wipe, then apply the Trinity kernel. That works for sure because I tried it (what I did was stock --> eb 1.0.2 --> eb 1.0.4 froyo --> kernel, all without wiping)
you could also try the Trinity kernel for EB 1.0.4Froyo on your stock rom. (should work; I didn't try so make sure you have a backUP)

Any kernel that works for EB Froyo should work on stock froyo, and any kernel that works for EB Gingerbread should work for the leaked gingerbread. EB is just modified stock.
The main thing you don't want to do is use a kernel build for CM7 on some other rom or the other way around. CM kernel are completely unique and aren't compatible with anything else.
I've used the Trinity kernel for EB froyo with the stock rom and it was very smooth. The only bug I found was that it broke USB mounting.
Thanks for the reply guys, will give EB 1.04 FroYo a shot later on!!

Same reason why i wanted to stay stock when I was running CM7 I read some of the other threads and I'm now running EB froyo with the trinity kernel and I havent thought about going back.
You get to use the stock HD camera and record in HD which matters as well I have gotten better benchmarks averaging around 3200.
whats the best combo for rom and kernal for the g2x.
im about to install the eagleblood 2.3.3bg (since it has the stock camera) and was looking for a kernal so i could oc it. thanks for the help
also whats best 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 or 2.3.5????
For the most part, rom choice is going to come down to personal preference. As for kernels, faux's is pretty popular. Personally, I'm running eagleblood 2.3.3 and stock kernel.

I am running Triggers 2.3.5 with Fauxs 0.3.5-sv OC to 1.4Ghz and it is awesome. No reboots or issues at all.
There is no kernel made for the ota (2.3.3) roms only 2.2.2 froyo, 2.3.5 cm, eb2.3.5 so basically any rom that is based off the new 2.3.3 ota will not have a oc kernel for it yet LG didn't release source, and best rom kernel combo is definitely cm, and fauxs latest or morfics it a toss up, but honestly the newest nightly runs so nice u wont need one and it has voodoo built in and boot up time is super quick, idk IMO oc kernels are not needed with this phone it is already sick quick I get 3100 quadrant with cm stock kernel, now if u want to save battery life grab a UV kernel
blondie or brunette?? LOL its all up to ur taste for roms and kernels! Im having a great time using the rom and kernel on my sig! But all depends on you and your phone... (some phones dont like oc/uv), the only way to know is to flash, flash flash and flash (watch out not to become a flashaholic...)
Any rooted 2.3.3 ROM, with the Stock Kernel, and LG Camera App.
