[CONFIRMED][ADV][BOOT SPLASH] You do not need eng s-off to flash boot splash! - HTC Inspire 4G

I was experimenting around today, and we've been flashing radios with out eng s-off.
YOU MUST HAVE ROOT AND S-OFF!
So the reason you are here, to find out how to flash a boot splash with out having to have eng s-off
I have attached a blank PD98IMG at the bottom of this post.
1. Download the splash1.img you want as your new boot splash.
2. Download this blank PD98IMG.
3. Using winzip or 7 zip place the bootsplash.img in the blank PD98IMG using normal compression. (DO NOT unpack/unzip the PD98IMG!)
4. Place the PD98IMG on the root of your sd card.
5. Boot into h-boot and press volume up to flash.
6. The phone will reboot with your new splash screen.
7. Delete the PD98IMG off the root of your sd card.
Enjoy! You're more then welcome to use this method, just be sure to give credit where credit is due .

Thank you! Your more then welcome to! I thought about this a while ago when they were flashing radios.
Also I will add that there is virtually little risk of bricking using this method, I know because the first time I tried flashing a splash.img that was in the wrong bmp coding >_<.

I just cant seem to get this working on cm7.
I made a splash and saved it as a 24 bit bmp then I renamed it bootsplash.img. I open up two 7-zip windows and copied the splash into the zip file.
But when I try to flash through Hboot it says that the image failed.
Am I missing anything?

Hmmm I am not sure about cm7 if I remember correctly the actual rom doesn't do any thing to the boot partition mind posting the image and letting me give it a try ?

It must be named splash1.img the same as if you are doing it from ADB. I just did it and it worked. bootsplash.img will make it fail.

Thanks for the Zip Template mate! Good work!

This is the same method as flashing a radio, though I would highly recommend checking the md5 to make sure it is not corrupt once you transfer it to your sd card

|OP| updated to lessen confusion.

Im getting a partition update fail on the hboot screen after I press yes to update. I did all the steps on the 1st post.
Im on Cognition 1.0.1

can you post the image so I can give it a try ?

Off hand your image isn't 480x800 you may want to redo it, but to make it easier on you I have re sized it some of the edges got clipped.

Still got the update fail

I'm not exactly sure how you are trying to do this but it works.
Place the pd98img on your sd card delete the three ( do not unzip or unpack). It will work because I just tried it.

Thanks that worked for me. What r u using to change the .bmp to .img? Sorry I'm such a
noob at this.

nbimg its a script you run through command promp, there is also a link to it on the second page in the dev section .

Hello. I have an HTC Inspire 4G and believe I am following the steps correctly. Does the phone have to be rooted in order to work or can I use a stock phone with S-On?

Yes and place it on the root of your SD card, reboot in hboot, give it a second to load and pretty soon it will ask if you want to update...Thats it.
Just be careful, as I'm sure you have read...flashing radios can bick your device pretty fast

No. In these particular downloads , the PD98IMG.zip file is contained within the .7z archive, so you'll need to simply extract PD98IMG.zip and copy it to the root of your SD card, then reboot into bootloader. If you simply rename the .7z file it won't work.
yeah i have flashed many radios before just wasnt sure cause i could only find the radio.img n not the whole PD98IMG zip so i was scared, and flashed the bare radio in bootloader not noticing lol... Luckily didnt brick so i came here.. I found it out right after i downloaded it but thanks alot..

Splashscreen Trouble

I was able to change my splashscreen once, but changing it again doesn't seem to work. I place the PD98IMG.zip in the root of my SD card, overwriting the previous, and when I boot into bootloader I just see something come up like "parsing PD98IMG.zip" and it just finishes without giving me the option to volume up or down to actually change/load the new PD98IMG.zip file. Any ideas?
1.
I've tried deleting it completely/loading new file and I still have the same splashscreen.
Are you rooted? I've seen this behavior when S-ON is still active

Yes, I am rooted.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
When you put the file in the PD98IMG.zip, did you unzip and then re-zip? If so, you should just open the zip file with 7zip/winrar/whatever so you can see inside, and then just paste your .img file inside. Then close it.
Other than that, we need more details. What process exactly are you doing. Are you creating your own .img with nbimg, or using someone else's already made .img
I am using some one else's .img file (mainly from the splashscreen emporium post) and I just move the file from my download folder to the root of my sdcard and click OK to overwrite with root explorer. I havent tried zipping and unzipping yet on the computer, but ill let you know if it works.
what i meant was don't unzip/rezip. Just browse the zip file and drop your .img in it. But since you're going with someone else's zip, i have no idea where the problem could be.
if you really want the splash screen, have a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059520
it's more difficult than just grabbing someone else's, but it's honestly not too bad, especially since he gives step-by-step instructions

Flashing radio question

I've followed shadowfox's instruction on how to flash a radio and have been looking at the new inspire radio thread and I've followed the instructions (not well enough obviously) but when I boot into hboot it says that the image can't be found. I've downloaded the radio file and replaced it in the hack fit file and put it on my sdcard but doesn't seem to work. The name is correct. I'm not sure what place it on the root of the sdcard means so I got this feeling I'm not putting it on my sdcard correctly? thanks for the help. I know, newb question but I'm doing my best.
Root of the sd card is on the as card and in no folder whatsoever

So pretty much just putting it on the sd card then correct? beacause I've done that and it doesn't recognize that it's there. Here's what I did so if you see anything wrong then it might be easier for you to help me?
1. Download radio from thread (ex.using the radio from the cleardroid thread)
2. take the zip file and replaced it in the PD file from the hack kit
3. put the .zip file on the sd card.
as I was looking at the instructions, am I supposed to take the radio file I downloaded and actually name the radio.img file the pd98img.zip and compress it? I'm sorry if this is frustrating to work through.

Just like XAviierG said, make sure that it's not placed into any folders of any kind when you're putting it on your sd card. If you use Root Explorer (or a similar file browser), and you go into your /sd card directory, you should see the PD98IMG.zip file in that directory without having to open a folder to get to it. This is referred to as the "root" of your sd card. If your radio of choice is there, just boot into HBOOT per the Radio sticky's instructions and flash away. Just don't power-down or disturb the radio upgrade in any way once you press Volume-Up to accept the upgrade. As always, verify those MD5's while the files are on your sd card for both the radio and the matching RIL prior to flashing the radio zip, (you'll flash the RIL from Recovery after mouning /system if you need to flash it). You can use something like Android File Verifier or Astro File Manager to verify the MD5's if you don't have an MD5 verifier on your PC.
Still not working, I see it while I use the file explorer and for some reason when I boot into hboot it doesn't recognize its there...As per shadow's instructions am I supposed to rename the radio.img in the download radio file to pd98img and zip it and then place it on the sd card? or just move the downloaded zip file right to the sd card?
why doesnt anyone use the RADIOS/RILS thread any more? the instructions are great and the files are already in correct format

Do it the easy way. Just go to THIS THREAD and grab the radio that you need, (the newest radio for the Inspire is the 26.10.04.03_M radio and the matching RIL is the 0153 RIL), and put those 2 files on the root of your sd card. Keep in mind that ClearD will already have a RIL packed in with the ROM, but I've never ran ClearDroid, so I'm not sure which RIL it may be. The radio is around 10MB or so in size and the RIL is about 447KB or so. Flash the radio (PD98IMG.zip) through HBOOT and then reboot the phone when prompted. Once you're up and running, you should be in business. I wouldn't mess with the RIL just yet. Like I said before, ClearD will already have one packed in. I can see that ClearD is a great Dev, so enjoy that ROM!
EDIT: Keep in mind that if you've downloaded anything to your PC in PD98IMG.zip format, you'll want to delete that from your PC first before downloading another one. The reasoning behind this is so that your download manager doesn't rename the file to something like PD98IMG(1).zip, or anything like that. If that zip is not named EXACTLY PD98IMG (the .zip portion will show up on your phone's sd card, but perhaps not when on your PC) when you boot into HBOOT, it will not parse properly, and HBOOT will just look at you like you just farted in Church.

If you're still having trouble, I figured out what I was doing wrong and it may be the same thing for you...when i downloaded the radio file for cleardroid, I had to rename the file to "PD98img.zip". My computer already had it as a zipped file so when I added the .zip to the end of it, it was actually being called "PD98img.zip.zip" and therefore hboot wasn't finding the file. Rename it PD98img if your computer is recognizing the file as a zipped file already..the radios on the thread given a couple post up don't need to be named so I didn't run into the same problem with those. Hope this helps man! good luck!

What radio are you trying to flash? Some devs that come from the dhd section will post the radio without the needed text file inside inorder to flash via hboot. They still tend flash pushing it through adb. So for those files you simply can't rename to pd98img and flash

[Q] Can someone please offer me some advice. CWM isn't working

Hi all,
I know that there are a lot of guides on xda and I've been reading them, searching and googling like crazy to try to find the answer.
Yes I'm a noob and I'm still trying to Root my phone.
I have managed to S-OFF with revolutionary.
I want to flash ARHD 4.1.13 (android 2.3.5 & htc sense3.5) onto my HTC Sensation Z710e.
I've been reading this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
And I'm at the stage where I'm trying to install recovery v5.0.0.8 CWM onto my phone for recovery.
I have downloaded recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-pyramid.img from the threads here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277975
I've heard that the file should be named 'PG58IMG.zip'
I've named the file recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-pyramid.img as 'PG58IMG.zip', then I've started up HBOOT but I keep getting messages stating cannot find PG58IMG. Then I just get the standard HBOOT screen of Fastboot, Reboot, Recovery etc... No messages about 'Updating' etc which you'd expect from CWM.
How can I move forward from here?
Thank you,
T-L-H
That's where you're going wrong. If you've got the recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-pyramid.img you flash it as it is using the fastboot flash command

Sounds like you dl it,but it needs to be on the root of your sdcard. Move it to the root, then check md5sum,load up and it should recognize it.

You can't just rename the recovery file PG58IMG.zip - it doesn't work like that
If you have the *.img file you have to flash it via fastboot. That or find someone that's packaged the recovery into a PG58IMG.zip file
I've managed to flash the ROM onto my phone ^^
I've used ARHD 4.1.13 (android 2.3.5 & htc sense3.5)
Just to double check, that doesn't have Beats (thats fine I don't have any Beats headphones anyway).
Will it change the CPU to 1.5Ghz? In hardware settings for the phone it still shows 1.2Ghz.
Think that one doesn't but not sure...why not go for HD 6.x?

It was my first time Rooting and flashing ROMs onto phones, the whole firmware thing confused me until I'd thought about it...
I know that what I've got on now is stable.
I'll fiddle with it in a week or so.
you should rename it to "recovery.img", and put it into the old PG58IMG.zip (cwm 5.0.0.8) and overwrite the old recovery.img.
then put the new PG58IMG.zip in your sdcard root folder and get into hboot then update it.

I know that. I moved the backup on the computer and when I put it on my sd so I could restore it. It didn't work it says no file found do you know where I can download the Original Stock Rom and when i try starting it up it go's to a black screen with a green arrow pointing towards the found then it goes to the phone with a red triangle with a red exclamation point. What is that?
If your backup is not recognised you have put it in the wrong folder i think. So tell us, where the files are on your sd card.

Can I go to some website to download the original stock Rom and kernel I need to fix my phone asap so can you please tell me exactly what I need to do. Plus what are those symbols i describe in my last reply. Thanks so much for assisting me I appreciate it.
The files must be in folder: clockworkmod/backup/2013-04-01.18.46.58
The last folder is the date it was created.
The symbols mean, your flash has failed.

Okay so what do I do. Do i just move the Nanadroid file and where on my Sd. I leave it in zip form right ?
Then using fastboot I go ahead and open up CWM? Will it work on any version of CWD? Thanks so much for getting that file for me and what do I do after its flashed? Like as from being to end what are the steps sorry for all the questions but thanks for everything.
Unzip it. Go into Clean JB Crkt 2.04.1050.3 folder and copy the clockworkmod to your external sd.
Then boot into cwm and choose restore and choose the backup.

Hey man I download that file but its not in zip its in Rar. so I just move the file on to my external sd out in the open not in a folder and I opened up my CWM from the install zip from sd card and that didn't work then I went to restore and it could find the file both times so how do I install it? Do I have to put it in a certain folder or something? It keeps saying no file found. Thanks
Don't copy the zip directly.
What you could do is make a backup, see where it is on your sd, replace it with the one from the zip and then restore that one.
So Noob17_Me, flash this rom from here.

Yea but what im trying to say is that the file I downloaded isn't in zip form. So how am I supposed to install it on CWM?
Sorry but what is so difficult to understand? The rar is not for flashing, its a cwm backup and if you unrar it you have a folder Clean JB Crkt 2.04.1050.3, inside you find a folder clockworkmod.
This clockworkmod folder you have to copy to SD, like it is and and boot into recovery and choose "restore".
And my zip is made from this backup, so it are the same files!
