[Q] [i]Carrier codes please! - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I can confirm that NoDo can be obtained most easily by merely tweaking the registry for any unbranded carrier codes and for carriers who appear on Microsoft's website to be delivering updates.
I had flashed my Omnia 7 with a DBTJK1 Rom available from samfirmware.com, I got the pre-nodo update straight away, however, NoDo update was not available (14th April Last checked). Since Orange UK was confirmed to deliver NODO, so I tweaked back my registry to ORG-GB and restarted my phone, and wonderfully enough I got the NODO instantly.
There is no need as I see to try any silly methods (pbk trick with timing lolz, Cheveron Updater oof)to get the updates, instead, one could just register unbranded carrier codes. So, Could you all please submit your unbranded, or those who got the NoDo officially, the carrier codes (Read from registry for operator on your phone), so that we can expedite the process of getting the updates.
Many thanks, and please do contribute as this will be very useful for getting future updates.

Arrgh, the Registry Editor I have doesn't have root access so I am not able to read the value (hidden in the list)
Any suggestions how to pull it out? I have visual studio, touchxplorer, and am working on writing protected registry values to this version of the phone.
see thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035392
Thanks in advance, I'm awaiting more ideas/instruction!

I've been following that post with GREAT ANTICIPATION! Unfortunately, the program does not work on my HTC phone. *yet*
I guess this brings us to a standstill as the only official NODO update I believe is on HTC and dell phones:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/features/update-schedule-usa.aspx

Is there really a need for this? Just set 000-88 as your MobileOperator and it should pull down 7008/7390 no problem. Why bother going thru the hoops of finding a carrier when you can go carrier-free?

No, it does not find 7390 with 000-88 in registry, I had this entry in my ROM by default and I had to change it back to ORG-GB (from my official ROM).

I have updated several phones to NoDo with 000-88. Some automatically and others using the disconnect "trick". Just because yours did not find 7390 straight away doesn't mean it doesn't work - it just means your device wasn't part of the randomized and throttled rollout.
Sure, you could go thru a list of carriers who are delivering the update, but that still doesn't mean your device would receive NoDo straight away - the process is still throttled afaik.

I don't see the relevance. The process is throttled. Yes, you may have received the update straight away after going back to ORG-UK, that doesn't mean everyone else will. Others (me included) received the update straight away after changing to 000-88, while others still have had to deal with timing tricks, clearing out the string completely or retrying hundreds of times.
In any case, since you are saying ORG-UK works, then why bother trying to find other strings? By your definition everyone should automatically get NoDo by changing it to ORG-UK, right?
But whatever. Here's a few strings for you to faff around with;
Code:
000-88
SMC-HK
ONE-GH
VOC-MZ
SFR-FR
ORG-GB
ORG-FR
SWI-CH
FON-CL
FON-GT
LUS-CA
SIN-AU
SIN-SG
TMO-DE
TMO-HR
TMO-CZ
TMO-HU
TMO-MK
TMO-NL
TMO-SK
TMO-GB
TMO-US
ORG
VOD-NL
STR-AU
TMO
TLC-MX
ATT-US
VOD-AL
VOD-AU
ROG-CA
VOD-CZ
VOD-EG
VOD-FO
VOD-FJ
VOD-DE
VOD-GR
VOD-HU
VOD-IN
VOD-IE
VOD-IT
VOD-MT
FON-ES
VOD-NZ
VOD-PT
VOD-ZA
VOD-ES
VOD-GB
VOC-LS
VFQ-QA
VOD-IS
VOD
VOD-CD
You can rather easily match these against carrier, country and whether they are testing, scheduling or deliverying the updates.

Many thanks for that list mate! What now remains is MobileOperator values for Unbranded devices, I seriously doubt that they are all but 000-88.

Unbranded XENJK1 here, 000-88. Originally handset was TMobile UK.
I did try changing the MobileOperators to ORG-GB with no success with the update, there must be something more. Your device is originally an orange handset right? It may be determined on more than just the MobileOperators key.

Yes. The process is still throttled. The update is not sent out to all eligible devices at the same time. You can raise your chances of being "selected" by changing your MobileOperator string but your best bet is really to set it to 000-88 and - if that doesn't automatically give you the update - do the wifi timing trick. Works 100% of the time.

I took your info into consideration, and went through the hassle of flashing my ROM again, and this time today, even if I had 000-88 by default in my ROM, NODO did not appear. To my surprise, NODO did not appear going back to ORG-GB either, and guess what, the timing trick also did not work at all. So, I went on and used Cheveron.WP7.Updater and got NODO, however it is difficult to dealwith it in my subconscious.
I wish there was a simple official way to getting updates, yet I still think that unbranded MobileOperator code could increase the chances.

I've got the unbranded one: version 7390 (updated over Zune), value: 000-88

@Emigrating.
So mate! How to go about the wi-fi trick and how sooner shall it display update notification?

If you used ChevronWP7 or Chris Walsh's tools to update your WP7 phone to NODO, and now you can't update to the latest May release (7932) then here is the fix you have been looking for! This tool allows the restoration of your phone such that it can be updated through Zune again. All credits goto Chris Walsh. No need to downgrade from NODO or mess around with your ROM!

Obviously use "wpst_x86_2.zip" for 32-bit and "wpst_x64_2.zip" for 64-bit Win7/Vista. Make sure you have at least .NET Framework 4.0 installed.
Instructions:
1) Sync your favorite WP7 to your PC
2) If Zune loads, let Zune sync with your WP7 phone, establish a connection, then kill Zune
3) Run the Chris Walsh program "WPST.exe"
4) Read the onscreen instructions and wait for the update to complete
5) Try updating phone in Zune after Chris Walsh fix

You need
- the phone to be unlocked (Chevron)
- WP7 Root tools
- Read Unbranding your phone for updates thread
- Read Prevent relock thread
1. Install WP7 Root tools.
2. Do the "Prevent relock" reg hack.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg]
"PortalUrlProd"=""
"PortalUrlInt"=""
3. Do the "Unbrand" reg hack
HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\MobileOperator
Edit it and instead of "ATT-US" (original value) leave blank
4. Connect to Zune and update to 7392
I have a Focus updated to 7392
LE: alternatively, you can also sideload and run Samsung Tools and tick "remove sideload limit", "prevent relock" and " enable 3g".
This hasn't worked for me, I am still getting the update error.
Any other suggestions?
I originally flashed an Ansar VF NZ rom, it allows me to update to 7008, but fails with 80180048 on 7392.
Hard reset, Walsh's tool. still no go..
Anyone?
Yes. Flash the Rogers rom and start over. Something's not working properly and you can try to spend a lot of time trying to find out what it is or you can enjoy the phone. Your call.
I'm suggesting Rogers rom, because the while AT&T has apps (will you use'em?) it doesn't support sms delivery notification. Also, Rogers rom is closest to original Samsung rom.

WP7 doesn't really have bloatware. All the preinstalled ATT apps can be deleted. ATT did provide a WiFi sniffer that looked for free ATT WiFi spots and automatically connected without intervention from the user. I think this and the ability to import ATT contacts came only to ATT branded phones with the 7390 update

That's what I said What do you call something you don't use and that occupies space otherwise? Plus you do have to delete those apps to free space, so those are extra steps. As for the Wispr, Mango (including this beta) offers this connectivity generic. For contacts, I have no clue what ATT contacts are but Outlook sync works perfectly.

[Q] Unable to send MMS or mass messages Samsung Focus

Hey,
So I purchased an AT&T Samsung Focus off of eBay, and am using a Rogers SIM in Canada. I've read everything, and I am aware that a lot of people are getting this fixed, however everybody seems to be running NoDo or lower. Unfortunately, I am running the Mango "RTM."
I was able to get 3G working by setting up APN settings, but I can't get MMS to work, nor am I able to send out mass text messages (to more than one person).
Is there any fix for my Mango phone, without downgrading? Thanks!
There are multiple answers to this question on this very forum. Try the search feature please but this usually works for everyone that has mms problems. How to get MMS working on LG, Samsung, and HTC

I have already tried this, and requires me to downgrade to something that isn't Mango. Mango doesn't allow the "interop capabilities" library, and as far as I know there isn't any Mango registry editors.
Are you not unlocked? If you are unlocked then all you need do is make the provxml or use the one already made then use the samsung diag thing to run the provision. You can also try this which will show you how to run the provxml file to get the flag set.
Unfortunately, I am only developer unlocked, I should have mentioned that in the original post. My apologies. I want to downgrade back to NoDo, and re-unlock my phone but I don't want to lose my text messages. I'm almost on the edge of doing it, because having a smart phone without MMS is pointless.
Do you know of any way I can keep my text messages, or more specifically the ones from a specific person?

If you are developer unlocked then this should work. You just need to follow the instructions in that other thread to get the provxml file to your phone. On my original thread download the xap open it with winzip or winrar (or whatever) copy the Custclear.provxml file to a directory of your choice. And then just follow the instructions in that last thread I linked to make your samsung provision properly.
Alternatively you could try this tool which allows you to set the ADC flag so you can get your mms running again. Since you are developer unlocked you should be able to run that tool on your samsung.
You could also try downloading "Network Profile" app from the Marketplace in the Samsung Zone section. And see if that works

To my knowledge this is not possible yet.
I actually managed to figure it out, Samsung has a handy tool in the marketplace that does this all for you. MMS is now working perfectly. I had tried this in the past, but the Samsung marketplace was bugged for me.
So, for anybody on 7720 with a Samsung Focus without MMS working download the app called "Network Profile" under the Samsung Zone in the Marketplace.
Thank you for your help Laquox
I downloaded the network profile but do not see any options to make changes to the APN settings for MMS.

mango update quick question need help please,

HEY
i see the mango update is starting to go live for people and after looking at microsoft site its shows in the uk that o2 are givng out the update.
my question is i have a unlocked htc 7 pro currently using a t-mobile sim can i take this out use my partners o2 sim to see if i can get the update then once updated transfer back to my t-mobile sim?
thanks for any help with this.
did you try to force the update with the zune software (the link is in this forum on a different thread). It worked for my phone and doesn't really use my carrier's network (since it relies on disabling your network connection during the upgrade check). It might work for you without doing anything else.
Agree with last post. If in doubt, force it
Sent from my 7 Pro T7576 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
If you're too lazy to search for the link, here it is: http://www.wpcentral.com/force-mango-update-early-through-zune-software
I had to repeat the steps a bunch of times to get it right, but it works fine
But take care, this will probably re-lock your phone, I had no problem with this because I already have an AppHub student account, so I can officially unlock it again
But I'm still facing some problems because students are only allowed 3 sideloaded apps, and since this number is smaller than 300, this means that the phone will be Interop-locked (this is explained here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265321), so I can't open any code that use native libraries, so I'm unable to edit the registry to increase MaximumUnsignedApps :S
thanks i found the force link lastnight. got it all to work first time so easy was great thank you for the info.

Anyone updated to 8107 yet

I saw this post today
http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2012...l-out-started-get-it-now-and-update-manually/
And I plan to try it on my Arrive when I get home tonight but I was wondering if anyone has does this yet?
i have tryied it, with the instrinic rom it does not work. also with the Titan rom for 7 pro from ansar. but he is building a new rom called New Tech Rom that is able to update and hold the unlock... because my device gets lock after the 7740 update i have a custom rom on 7740 for now.
I can confirm that this does work on a stock Sprint Arrive. I updated to 7740 first and then to 8107 and I have a fully functional phone.
EDIT: NEEDS LANGUAGE PACK or dialer won't work.
And just used the same tool to take a Radar 4G from 7740 to 8107.
Does internet sharing show up in the settings menu after updating On the arrive?

Nope. Also, after doing this update (I went 7720 -> 7740 -> 8107) the cellular menu in settings does not work. When you press it, the screen flashes and then nothing happens.
Nevermind on the cellular menu not working. That was me being dumb and forgetting to do the en-US language update (yes, you have to do the language after you do the main 8107).
No internet sharing and yeah I just figured out about the language pack also. Both the Radar and the Arrive need it.

what about the 160 limit on sms for the arrive?
(thats the other thing i really miss)
can some one tell me how you got it to work because every time i try it i get a error that say "Error: No update files.". Does my phone have to be unlocked for this to work?
160 limit still exists and I agree this is very annoying.
This works if your phone is completely stock. My phone is not unlocked or modified in any way.
Just download the zip, unzip it to a folder, download the 7720-7740 cab and put it in the same folder as the WP7 Update Cab Sender bat file and double click it. I needed to install the "if needed install this tool".

I called Sprint, as is my monthly ritual. They are "aware" of the issue and are "waiting for Microsoft" (not that doesn't make any sense but that's what they said.)
For guys that already tried, could you kindly give some details on what steps should we follow?
---------- Post added at 02:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:18 PM ----------
OK, I just did the 8107 update, and the phone boots up, good sign I'll give it a try and report back. I followed the instruction listed hereI know it's actually from XDA, but that tutorial listed the detail for specific sprint arrive, which is what I have. I just got it for free from MS challenge, so far love it.
Nope, not on TANGO either...
I just saw this thread and though... hmmmm... my Arrive is full unlock with ANSAR's custom 8773 (TANGO port) but it too has the 160 txt limit ...
Its weird that SPRINT would do that since Windows Mobile handled more...
Im going to ask ansar if there is a way to take this limit off... Maybe its a registry setting that needs to be changed. Like with Windows Mobile, we may be able to tweak it to send even bigger MMS messages (pix/vid)... jejeje
Also, for those wondering, this is the thread for ANSAR's Custom Rom...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1499981
^yeah i can't believe this hasn't been fixed on any of the custom roms yet. Huge disappointment but I don't have any other complaints so I'm pretty happy overall. This has to get fixed eventually. My tp2 handled this just fine.
Does going to 8107 enable anything from the stock ROM (i.e. ICS) or does it just fix the issues listed here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/howto/wp7/basics/update-history.aspx?
(The disappearing keyboard is annoying, but I use the hardware keyboard for the most part. None of the other issues affect me much. So if it just fixes those items listed, I'll probably hold out.)
Frankly I didn't notice any difference at all to the Mango 7720 official release. I just can't resist the urge to upgrade to the latest available "official" version. Not too much into the custom rom yet. I had not so great experience on my old touch diamond, so I didn't do unlock on my tp2, not on this either unless there's something very significant on Tango.

Well, I just got it for a week or so, and I'm satisfied so far for the existing functions. tethering, because I have wifi at home and office, so it is not that much a problem yet, and the fact that my A500 can't take the Ad-hoc without root and I'm waiting for the official ICS, so even with tether on my TP2, I've not been able to use it at all for a long time(or forever) for me, why bother Of course, the main reason is laziness and I didn't like the custom roms too much on WM before. I tried hard to find a perfect rom, but couldn't, none of the available roms were to my like. So I started to cook my own, but found it too much a trouble, I ended up with some half ass roms, to my like, but with problem. that was on my first WM phone, HTC diamond, on the second, TP2, I just didn't bother at all.

Hi Elman,
Do you know how to unlock the verizon trophy for any GSM network? I've got that SIM PIN unlock code question from the phone...
Thanks,
Andy

yes what you need to do is
1 get the unlock code from ebay to do this do as follows
2 turn on your device without sim card
3 go to settings change from automatic to gsm only
4 get the emei number via *#06# in the dial
5 buy code
6 input code when asked

thanks afripino for this info
Used Registry Editor to fix Bluetooth audio quality issue - \\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings\ BitPool, set to 51
Thanks for making this thread!
First things I have done after installing the ROM were...
-Testing Internet Sharing (WiFi tethering) - works beautifully
-Used Registry Editor to fix Bluetooth audio quality issue - \\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings\BitPool, set to 51
Installed Metro Theme from Bazaar
So far, it works flawlessly! I haven't had an issue yet. I have facebook, twitter, exchange (corporate), and 2 Gmail accounts synchronized as well as my Live account. Thanks for all of the quality work DFT and mwang! Thanks to The Xev for his HSPL for Dummies tutorial guide.

Thanks! Flashing this ROM myself right now.
Do you have links to each of the tools you used for these items?
EDIT: Disregard! After I finished flashing, I found that the apps are already pre-installed with the ROM. Really nice so far.

ok awesome feedback will add this to the info as soon as someone else confirm it
Diag mode?
Does diagnostic mode work with this rom? I loaded it OK but when I dial ##634# it stays stuck on "loading"
This is a free phone I got from the Microsoft giveaway, I'd like to put it on Cricket if I can but I can't get it into diag mode.

that i have no idea lets see if someone else have an answer
As an FYI I did not try ##634# in the stock verizon mango rom the phone came with, so it may have nothing to do with the new rom. I'm playing with the device on wifi only but would like to get it on PST and put it on a non contract so I can play with it with CDMA as well, see if I want to jump from android to win mobile 7.
So maybe I should have asked this in another thread, but I will wait and see if anyone knows this answer here.
Thanks!

When send SMS with Chinese, others will receive"_______"
Use FileExplorer,Reinstall “ServiceTools_01.provXML” and “EmbeddedTool.provxml” in “windows” folder.
That didn't seem to change anything, it still hangs on loading field test.
Can someone with this ROM verify ##634# or ##3282# works for them?

My phone work with ##3282# but ##634# not work it hangs on field test loading ...
Thanks, mine hangs on field test loading with both (as well as a couple other codes that HTC has used, either they do nothing or they hang)
I guess when I have time I will go back to the stock rom and see if it fixes it, unless someone else has a better idea. I need to change prl's at the very least to get it off verizon and onto a carrier that I can do prepay with.
I wish I knew more about windows 7, I have a 6.1 sprint touch pro, but this is completely different. Android is a mess but at least I can QPST it.
Before getting started with my post, I BEG any possible cookers, PLEASE PLEASSEEEEE do not take mwangs rom and repackage/rerelease it as your own work. He's already royally pissed off at GoldC users for stealing his hard work and then them taking donations for it.

This seems to be an issue with Spark_W's drivers. No clue when we can expect a fix, but this issue seems present in the stock rom as well. Verizon/HTC will prob need to update this in a driver fix... and who knows if they will ever do another official update for our phone. GoldC users are in the same boat with updates as us, so I'm wondering how many shared issues they have (I think the SMS issue is one, but they are stuck on CDMA only mode, unlike us).
I'm guessing this issue wasn't caught my them because HTC/Verizon didn't test the phone enough with input other then English/Spanish.

No, this appears to be related to the usage of Cotulla's full unlock.
The only fix for this right now is to cook the rom without Cotulla's full unlock.. but in that case you wouldn't have full unlock. For now, just do any additional programming you need to do with stock rom. I will post some links to "recooked" stock roms I have created that will work with HSPL in another thread. *edit* You can find the HSPL stockish roms here. They are the same as stock, except no SPL/RADIO/Spanish.
As for switching to cricket, I'm not sure how easy it would be to flash a new PRL to it, since it isn't as simple as it was in WM6.5 phones using ##PRL. I think you may still be able to use QPST, but I think you need to boot the phone in diag/bootloader mode. I wrote a custom diag driver to do stuff like this (You'd need to uninstall Zune to make it work right. @[email protected]), and I know it allowed QPST to connect to the phone and read data, but I never tired updating the PRL.
Other known issues with this rom:
You CANNOT program with *228. mwang has confirmed this with me that this is an issue with him removing a driver, and it will be fixed in next rom he releases. Only fix for now is to program the phone before flashing DFT Freedom at this time. In short: Don't perform a factory reset with DFT Freedom for Verizon Trophy at this time! Otherwise you'll have to flash a different rom to program your phone successfully. (Without the driver required, if you attempt to program using this version of DFT Freedom for VZW Trophy, the phone will act like its programming, but will not get an authentication key, so you will get an error "We cannot currently authenticate your phone").
Some users have reported poor voice recondition. I can concur with this, but no fix so far. I'll have to try running a file compare on registry files to see if mwang tweaked any registry settings that might affect voice recondition and report it to him/yous peoples if I find anything. I don't have much free time anymore since I am employed again.
It also seems football released a new stock rom a few days ago. I'm guna go see what that's all about... maybe we'll get the SMS fix (a newer radio would be nice too) and a new official SYS (I won't hold my breath for that one!).
