sorry i have got it fixed after google-ing it and by installing HTTP Proxy Settings..
however the Youtube cannot be played
could anyone help on the youtube issue please?
Not sure about youtube.
3.1 seems to have fixed the hidden part of the proxy and allowed each wifi to have it's own proxy or lack thereof.
But still not sure about getting proxy support for the apps.
Have a thread on this..
No answers yet.
Have you found a solution?

Hi
Im havin a problem. In my office my HTC Prophet detects a Wifi signal and it connects to it very easily. But there is no browsing available.
Ive talked with our IT Department, they said they placed no restriction on use of WiFi and ours is an unsecure network. I gave a proxy in settings but still in vain.
My Rom details are in my signature.
Im looking forward to your help
Regards
Hey,
Have you tried connecting to any other wifi network?
Delete the settings from your prophet and try again.
Ive never had problems with wifi browsing with that rom. Does the connection work for any other apps that need internet, like weather?
Proxy settings shouldnt be needed using wifi??
Thats a good idea, ill try it on another network
Ive deleted all the settings n tried again i-e even mms and gprs settings
I gave proxy but it was in vain

yh dont even bother with proxy, its not needed for wifi, same for deletin mms and gprs settings lol... are u sure its not secured? That seems pretty slack for a company wifi lol.
Yup, its slack
Ive deleted all my settings and still no use
My colleague is running Wifi & browsing net with his nokia E-60, this means there isnt any problem with the wifi.
Yup it isnt secure, but im still unable to access it
can you update the weather using your wifi?
Did you look at Vincents thread for the rom to see if there are any problems?
No, weather doesnt update
Ive seen his thread whose link is in my signature, but no use!
ok asking the obvious now but just to check, did you hard reset after your flash? Did wifi ever work using your current rom?
Might be worth trying a reflash, backing up first of course
Yup, I did hard reset and WiFi worked after I installed this ROM on my Prophet
I think this must mean that there is a software clash with an app you have added, or registry is messed up. Have you tried deleting cookies etc in your browser? Your using Internet Explorerer yes? have you tried Skyfire out of interest?
Might be time for a hard reset...

Hi,
Do you have your device connected with a cable to charge or sync ? It might be you did not check the box in AS to allow wireless connection while connected to a cable...
Dirk
Hmm
I havent tried deleting cookies and skyfire
Now ill try all of the above and report back!
Hi All,
I have a bit of research on this subject and it appears it cannot be done without rooting my device. Anyway, a few days ago my wifi only xoom arrived (and I've been very happy with it) now I want to connect to my corporate network (I am a domain admin). I have downloaded HTTP Proxy Settings to my device which brings up the proxy settings menu. I have entered the proxy settings but when I go to test it on the browser its asks for my username and password which I put in, but it still does not connect. I have also tried using domain\username to login in too but still no access. Is this just a limitation of Android at the moment or is there a way around this for the xoom with or without rooting it?
Cheers
David Hynes
Hi David,
Did you solve problem with proxy settings on your xoom?
I have exactly the same problem like you have.
Currently I'm on 3.1 android on my xoom tablet.
Thanks,
Peter
I havent used a Sense based ROM for months, and when I flashed one over the weekend I noticed the option to enable DLNA Auto-IP. I fully understand what DLNA is, but I am having trouble figuring out what this setting is for. Can anyone explain specifically what it does and when you would need to enable it? I checked around online and there seems to be some confusion, so I am hoping someone here knows!
i assume it automatically gives your phone an IP address when it connects to a network or device that supports DLNA.

I dont think so, that is the purpose of DHCP. Unless of course this setting is used to enable to phone itself to act as a DHCP server....
Maybe this will help:

Thanks, I actually found that link yesterday as well. However its a bit unclear as to what specific function auto-IP has.

So are you saying enabling auto-IP gives your phone a 169.x.x.x IP? If so, what is the point of that? Links are great, however if you happen to know then please explain.

Best I can figure [from the first link]
"Due to the DLNA specification, we have to support auto-IP when
there is no DHCP server.
"dhcpcd" is used by android and it supports auto-IP, but there are 2
designs
inside framework make auto-IP not available.
1. wireless manager timeout is the same as default DHCP discover
timeout.(30s)
2. dhcpcd will set failed property when get auto-IP"
Reading the MicroSoft blurb leads me to believe they need the auto function when there's no DHCP available.
Kinda' sounds like what I read in the posts above.
Ok, perhaps I am not as familiar as I should be with the 169.x.x.x IP range then. If a device isnt assigned a local IP then I dont think it can communicate with other devices on the network. As such, I am still not seeing the point of the auto-IP setting.
I am surprised that I can't find out what "DLNA auto-IP" does through googling. I want to know the details of what it means. I just got an HTC One phone on AT&T and my home wifi was cutting out (even though it said full signal), until I unchecked DLNA auto-IP. All my other devices including my wife's new iphone work perfect at home, but couldn't get my phone to work until I luckily tried checking this option in the advanced wifi settings. Anybody know exactly what is happening?
anyone of you here using a proxy server in a university? when i move to a different building in the same university, i cannot browse anymore because it says "authentication via proxy server was unsuccessful".
our proxy server does not require auntentication.
android 3.2 from our tablet has already a built-in proxy settings, why is this happening to me when when i move to a different building with the same proxy server?
any help from this will be greatly appreciated.
thank you in advance.
I don't have any issues in my University using the WiFi =/
i dont know why it is happening to me? the tech from the university said maybe its due to number of devices accessing the wifi proxy at the same, thats why i cannot connect. but i had my rooted lg optimus black before and its running smoothly in the university's proxy server!
i think there is something wrong with android 3.2's wifi proxy?
There are wifi-related issues with some of the Galaxy Tab 7 Pluses, (namely the SOD,) but this one is new to me. I've never experienced it. Truth be told, the tech could be correct. The proxy server might have been refusing connections due to heavy load. Even if you think your phone and tablet are connecting at the same time, the phone could have made its request earlier and been the last allowed device, or if you connected after, could have taken up a spot that was just vacated by another device.
My question is then, is this an ongoing issue? By this I mean are you having this issue multiple times in the day, where your phone can connect just fine, but your tablet is throwing that error message?
thank you for your reply, rkmj!
yes, this is an ongoing issue up to now! i have been experiencing this for over a month already. when im the main library i can easily connect at the first time. but when i move to the other buildings within the same proxy server, with definitely different access points it always says:" authentication via proxy server is unsuccessful". i am using my rooted lg optimus black with this same positions in the university before, and it works flawlessly, so i doubt if it is with the heavy load?
so is there something wrong with the proxy setup of honeycomb 3.2?
Hello Everyone,
I recently upgraded to CM 12.1 and discovered that my WiFi won't automatically connect to my router anymore if it doesn't detect access to the internet (I'm in China and Google is Blocked). I believe this explains why this is happening as there is internet and having to manually connect each time is annoying at least Is there a way to disable this "new feature" ?
Regards,
Bob
In Settings, got to WiFi, press the menu button in the top right and there should be an Advanced settings section or something similar (sometimes varies based on ROM/Language). Then untick the Avoid poor connection option. This should resolve your problem. If not, you may not have the correct firmware for 5.1.1
I already have Avoid poor connections unchecked. Any other way to fix this?
Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Try disable mobile data before connect to wifi, maybe this way should help

I have the EXACT same problem - it really does happen because you're in China and the method of internet access testing is through Google servers blocked in here.
I'm still trying to figure out how to disable the test or maybe reroute the destination.
It would definitely be a temporary solution to make the VPN active 24/7 if you put it on the router instead of on the phone / computer etc.
Let us know if you find a solution!

this was a very popular and general problem for every Chinese user with google service device.
you have to root your phone and manually change the google server address to a local substitute site, or just turn off the google server detect.
the easiest way is to use an APK developed by Chinese to have all these things done in a click.
search NoExclamation Portal Server 1.5

came here with a google search. this problem is generic to later android versions. i'm on cyanogenmod 12.1 which is i gather is android 5.1.
looking at DNS logs, it tries to access: http://connectivitycheck.android.com - which redirects to google and fails as it's blocked by the GFW.
just downloading the chinese apk to fix it... the link to it i found is: http://m.hiapphere.com/apk-org.foxteam.noisyfox.noexclamation
EDIT: so now got noexclamation the app running, but not sure it's doing anything. UI is in chinese, not sure what options to deal with and how. anyone have success with it?
EDIT2: it's like this: install the app. leave it at defaults where it's using the developers website for connectivity check. toggle it ON if it's not already (i believe needs root). reset network settings by toggling airline mode ON/OFFl. you're good.
however - conceptually better fix would is to take the "feature" OUT, not alter the server that it's checking the accessibility of. from the chinese thread, i gather this will get done by:
su
settings put global captive_portal_detection_enabled 0
this seems to survive reboot as well. problem solved, end of monologue!
