[pointless boring intro, feel free to ignore]
Hello everyone, I have been following this site for a while, and I recently made an account so I could give feedback while I beta tested some ROMs. Well I can't post in the developer section yet so I thought I would ask a question or two.
[question]
So I searched the forums (I tried to be thorough but I am on the app so I may have missed the answer to this) and after being unable to find my answer I come to you community!
Does anyone know of a way to get a Samsung Epic 4G to work on Virgin Mobile? I saw some small discussions but nothing concrete.
I am curious because I have Sprint on my dad's plan (for I am but a poor college boy), and he sometimes forgets to pay the bill. I would like to get my own plan, but can't afford more than Virgin Mobile's $25 plan, but I love my Epic and VM is lacking the high end devices I crave.
So if anyone has any information on this, I would appreciate it. A tutorial would be nice, but I also want to learn, so even if a feasible means is not available, perhaps an explanation of why not is available. Also, if this is possible, what would I stand to lose if I did this?
Thank you for any future help.

Are you using me to raise your post count? An epic is a CDMA phone, it doesn't have a Sim card. Anyone ACTUALLY know what they are talking about?

Noob here.
I'm having to make a financial decision and when my contract ends with Verizon in April, I'm going to switch to Straight Talk. I would love to afford the biggest and best, but I cant, so I'm having to go with something a bit less. My question is, has anyone been able to flash or convert their standard Verizon phone to work with Straight Talk? I'm wondering whether it be a regular phone, windows mobile/smartphone, or android, if anyone has been able to pull this off, and if so, how? I enjoy getting my phone and other devices to do more than allowed at original purchase and think this would be fun to do when I make the switch. Please let me know if anyone has done this and how. Thanks!
anyone with any info on this subject?
An issue like this requires a bit more than rooting, or 'unlocking' the phone. What your looking at doing is essentially jailbreaking the phone. This CAN be a complicated process.
I don't know for sure that whether or not there is an area in XDA committed to doing this. My suggestion at this point would be to google jailbreak (your phones name).
depending on the phone, this isnt always possible. On top of this, there are potentially features that your phone has that will not be supported once jailbroken.
Good luck.
EDIT: I should mention that, depending on the phone, you may not be able to do this. Certain phones REQUIRE that you have not only a talk plan, but a data plan as well. These are usually newer smart phones.
StraightTalk Now Had Android Phone
With straight talk now offering an android phone, will this help in converting my OG Droid to straight talk?
HELP i did succeed in flashing phone, everything works great. but the problem is i started gettin text messages from 31778 and 55330, and it only gives a series of numbers. can you help me with this issue? thanks
Mind sharing or pm'ing me on how you got it to work? I got a donor st phone and 2 fascinates from verizon. I successfully got the esn changed, *22890 to work. I can browse the net and receive texts. sending text says fail but still go through. The calls won't go out, get a autho error. If I am outside my market it will send/receive calls fine but soon as I cross back into it quits working. Occasionally it will even recieve a call and work but then it goes back to autho failure. Any idea where I went wrong?
Verizion or sprint android phone to straight talk on verizon towers
Still looking for anyone who is working on this project. I have found several people selling this service. Anyone have more information to share.
Thanks
Do you guys not search? this thread was orig posted back in Dec asking about flashing VZW to ST, but this guide had been posted already for months, was posted back in August... pretty much has everything you need to do for VZW to ST flashing:

ha thats the same thing i was going to post so i can do that method on DROID 1?
But that thread is more specifically aimed at the Fascinate, and it's ilk, than the X or X2's. If anyone has more detailed procedures pertaining to the MB870 please don't hesitate to PM me.
Thread lightly cleaned of ESN discussion. Keep that out of here... Time to reset and get on topic. Final warning.
^^ .... So like I was saying... I'd Just your contract run out, give em a call and tell em that if they want to keep your business switch your phone over to Straight talk. They want your money no matter what but until you push them they won't do squat for you...
so I finally got around to doing this - never owned a cell phone - though I've used them a few times and now I'm looking for something that will allow me to connect to wifi at any hot spot (quick & easy) have the features I need (browser) to log into to password protected wifi system - mostly for skype - and look up locations, phone numbers, perhaps check e-mail - absolutely nothing fancy, gimmicky or with the intention to impress.
would like a good product, built to last, at the most affordable price.
simplicity simplicity simplicity
I'm sure there are tons of other questions I could ask, but all I really need is something that will allow me to use skype via wifi, everything else is a plus.
suggestions?
thank you
Samsung Nexus S 4g, Sprint
Stock Android, unlimited data, no bs.
I would suggest an htc but they are gimmicky
Note: this post assumes you are USA and would want Android. You may choose iphone if you get it on Sprint, they are very simple and do their thing.
Conclusion: Sprint = best carrier USA, iOS or stock Android are the most simple UI's

I don't need a carrier, just has to have wifi capability
thanks

Hey all,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I had an idea a few weeks ago and decided to see if anyone would be interested in making this a reality.
Basically, I've been giving away free help to locals who are having issues with their android-based phones. Mostly it's factory resetting or telling people they can't use their Verizon phone on AT&T. But they really appreciate it because its a human interaction. I feel like one of those Mac geniuses (except I'm not trying to sell anything, my help is free, and I would like to think I know a little more about my product).
So the goal is to offer free tech support locally to anyone who buys an android phone. The idea being to compete with apple care, but make it a free service. I know a lot of you know a lot more than me about android, and there are times when I could use some help.
If anyone's interested in joining some sort of group dedicated to helping people with android locally, let me know! Hoping I'm not the only person who wants to help out the noobs
Thanks!
Ben
Ps - The way I started this was posting an ad on my local craigslist offering free tech support to anyone who owned an android. Gotten about 5 hits in the past week and I'm in a very rural area.
Bump. 157 views and no replies at all? Any thoughts at all about this idea?

What happens when you hard brick their phone?
You fix it lol. I've done it. Just have to read before you jump into anything, all the info is out there (thanks I'm no small part to this site).
Also, update: just got our second member! Woo Think I'm going to organize this via Google + for now.

Bump. Decided to try to run this through google+. Maybe that weird social network will end up being useful after all

Not always possible. What happens when you accidentally pull the cord out of the phone while flashing bootloaders (say, when upgrading a cappy to ICS). Or do you not mean that kind of help?
Herp derp Captivate Tapatalk 2
Ooh no, I do mean that kind of help. While I've never played with the captivate, I would imagine either be ready to fastboot or (easier) be really careful with other peoples' phones.
I think I've decided to scrap this project. While I have started to get a few locals interested recently, they really don't know enough to be useful without a lot of help, and after working full time, I just don't have enough energy for this. If someone else wants to take over the lead on this, I'd be happy to help, but I just can't take on this much extra responsibility right now.
And let's be honest, we've already got Android geniuses: our devs right here.

Hey guys I've been a silent watcher of the xda forums for a long time. I'm in the US military and work under much scrutiny so creating a sign in was questionable. But now I'm in deep and need help!! Ok so I have A Verizon Droid Bionic and am getting reassigned to CA from Texas. My problem is that I'm taking a big pay cut and probably won't be able to afford expensive Verizon. I've seen that I can try and unlock my Bionic for T Mobile but really don't understand a lot of things. If anybody can shed some light it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Take a look at this thread. (It's long, I know). There are similar pages you can google for that demonstrate it but this is probably the most accurate and unabridged source. I haven't tried this on my Bionic but I might soon. Make sure you back up before doing anything like this!

hi. am new to both xda & cellphones. have had a casual interest since 1st one i bought a few yrs ago but have never really dug deep. recently, as a means to supplement my income i started buying & selling some phones. thot i knew a little about them! lol well, because i don't like getting ripped off & would never want that to happen to someone else that buys one of my phones, i quickly learned theres a WHOLE lot more to know than i ever imagined! so i started reading everything i could find online to help me. thats why im here. recently purchased cdma ws to be able to unlock & flash phones as an additional service & as another way to supplement my income & my goal is to eventually have my own store that does it all, from providing carrier service to repairs & everything in between. the problem is i dont have much of a computer or technical background & am virtually clueless when opening up cdma ws. i have looked at several youtube videos on the topic but that takes a huge amount of time weeding out the bad ones. also, i have a couple different phones that i've played around with on the software(cdma ws) in an attempt to figure it out with mixed results. two phones in particular im working with are a samsung galaxy s4 us cellular & an htc droid dna verizon. the s4 i purchased off swappa's boneyard advertised as a bad esn. did so with the intention to sell as is and while waiting i figured i'd try to repair esn. come to find out after having run esn on swappa(comes back whitelisted), ting(says only "can't be activated on their network), and checkesnfree website where also comes back whitelisted. have called u.s. cellular and i somewhat remember them saying that previous acct holder owed balance. they had to dig for that info. been a couple wks since conversation. the htc is clean, never activated, never used. would like to flash both phones. the s4 to boost & the htc to pageplus but not definite on either. any and all help would be greatly appreciated. dont mind just getting "clues" or hints as i really enjoy trying to figure it out on my own. thanks in advance!
Hi, thank you fro using XDA Assist. Our mission at XDA Assist is to point users in the right direction to get help on their device's. What you're asking is way outside the scope of XDA Assist.
