HELP!! M logo reboot loop - Defy Android Development

after remove all files in /pds, rm -r /pds/*
my defy keep to reboot loop.
power on, the screen show the motorola (M) logo, after few second, then reboot.
i can go to bootlooder mode (power + sound up),
or go to wipe data/cache (power + sound down).
and i can flash sbf with rsdlite.
after tried all still keep boot loop
(full power changed 100%)
i tried reflash few different sbf rom
3.4.2-155, 3.4.2-133, 3.4.3-11
i'm sure all sbf rom work fine before.
i did flashed those sbf rom a few times, and all is work.
anyone know why keep reboot loop?
and how to solve it?
what is /pds/* files for?
please help, and thank you.

This was not a good idea. I think someone here on XDA (Tenfar) already tried to remove /pds and his Defy is dead now. Present sbf files probably do not include /pds.

Sorry for that, I can't do that either. Maybe it really needs to be back to factory.

I send back to factory on Saturday , and get back today.

Fisrt i have a 2.51 version next i put in the phone the JRDNEM_U3_3.4.2_155-002_DEBLUR_SIGN version but i can flash any rom.
So i try to flash USA version JORDN_U3_6.36.0_SIGNED_USAJRDNTMOB1B4B5DE1028.0R_JORDANTMO_P022_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf and it works but when i try to come back to 2.51 after installing 2.51 bootloader i can see anything
NB: sorry if my english is bad
Im no expert but i'm sure your phone will be alive again.
But i'm not know what do you intend to do?
there are a lot of roms undowngradable, and i dont think that you will be able to come back to the rom you had, you are probably flashing inferior version, so you will have to try to flash another bootloader and see if it boots, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
If that doesnt work, you will have to flash a full image SBF to boot the phone.
thanks man,
i figure out that the phone wanted my battery 100% but it is almost empty but i find a way to tell him that battery is 100% and i flash usa version

glad to hear you solved your problem. just out of curiosity, where did you get "JORDN_U3_6.36.0" as an SBF file? it's nowhere to be found.
if you can, u/l a copy somewhere, in case someone might need it.

[Q] After base band switch XT720 bricked (restarts on boot)

Hello...
I used the basebandswitcher V4 on my rooted XT720 w/ Froyo 2.2.1, and change the baseband from "unknown" (cellphone bought in South Korea) to Americas baseband (Im located in Mexico which uses 850/1900). When I lost signal I supposed that picked some baseband which my cellphone didn't support, then, I changed it again to Americas Argentina (850/1900)... now It's keeping rebooting with the Motorola logo all the time...
so, after many boot attempts, I used RSDlite to load the original version STSKT_N_79.33.50R, but the cellphone keeps rebooting on M logo...
did I bricked my phone? there's anyway to change the modem settings without boot the phone?
thank you for all
pull your sd card and then reboot. If that doesn't work, try reflashing with sd card out of phone.
Hello reverendkjr, thanks for your reply, as you said, I flashed the phone without the sdcard on it, same result...
do you think that the bootloader is the problem? since I change the modem band values, when the bootstrap is being performed then an error occurs while it tries to turn on the modem or something like that...
my current bootloader is 80.89, do you know any way to change it?...
Thanks again...
I suppose that you cannot enter recovery mode, too?

Hello!, yes I can, but wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition, even though are successfully committed it keeps restarting while booting... I can even flash it with any sbf file, I've tried korean, and two from US with same result...
Does anyone changed the modem settings using RSDlite?, there are some parameters that may help in one ini file...
Thanks!

Have you tried one of the Milestone XT720 2.1 STR_* sbf's (say the Cincinnati Bell STR_U2_04.1E.1) instead of the Korean Motoroi XT720 2.2 to see if it can restore your phone? I think the sbf include the baseband code. (I use sbf_flash on linux instead of RSD Lite so I can't answer that last part)

Hello, yes, I've tried that, same result... I think that with the program "switchbandV4" I wrote some registers in the modem flash or something like that, then, when is booting, an error appears and force the reboot until battery drains out.
I think there is a way to reset the modem via RSDlite, in the files pst.ini and pst_flash.ini are several keys like [MODEM_PARAMS], [MOTOMODEM] and TDMA and CDMA related configurations, but I have no single clue of how to do it jeje...
Well... thanks

I read this earlier, but it didn't occur to me that you probably need to factory reset. For some unknown reason, after I flash STSKT_N_79.33.50R, I always have to factory reset. Try this:
Power off phone (i.e. remove the battery)
Press and hold camera and gallery (both) while powering on
When you see the triangle screen let go of the keys
Press hand hold volume up
While holding volume up tap the camera key
Select "wipe data/factory reset" (volume + gallery key to select)
Select "reboot system now"
If the first boot after factory reset hangs on the M, Pull the battery and it should boot through the second time. This always happens to me when using STSKT_N_79.33.50R on Milestone XT720.
STSKT_N_79.33.50R is for the Motoroi XT720 (Korea only) which is actually different from the Milestone XT720. STSKT_N_79.33.50R will boot on the Milestone version, but sensors don't work and there are some other problems.
Sorry, I just realized you've tried that already and you probably do have Motoroi.
yah but im going to try it again just for good measure hahaha thanks
Edit: no different, same boot screen loop

well its not the way we are supposed to do it obviously its a program for another phone... i only noticed after i did it since i was so excited that i thought i was going to be able to have 3G haha... o well, now we just need a way to get into the kernel to change the radio and change it back to the original files but the problem i think is that we all don't know how to do that
oh and the program is called basebandswitcher V4 .... but like i said.. don't use it(you can only use it from the phone and once you do a restart you cant use the program again since the phone doesn't start back up

First of all your phone is fine, since it is booting. You can continue to choose normal power up and be fine.
To fix you need to flash the fxz and replace the files to allow you to do it after being on 2.3.6. see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650
unfortunately i cant flash the fxz it says failed all the time, its like its locked, i tried.

hmm. Is your phone the AT&T version or one of the international ones? Make sure you are using the correct fxz file for your device, that is most likely the problem with the step it is failing on find a list here: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/list.php
Go to settings- about phone and look at system version. That should tell you what version you are. it will be 55.13.25.MB865.VERSION.... or something like that, you should be able to tell which you are
it is At&t
system version 55.11.16.MB865.ATT.en.US i have downloaded the
InlineFlashing_edison_5.5.175.16_cfc_p3_APBP_CID285.Zip that is for At&t is that correct?

Try this, it may work. It is just a script that runs the fastboot comands. Extract it and run the stock restore file in it:

I also just replied to your PM, but I wanted to put this here as well, so others can also see it.....
This just a theory, since no one has done this yet, so we might have to try a few things to get it right
my first guess is to do this:
Take the following files from the update that you flashed and replace their counterparts in the 2.3.5 fxz, and update the md5 sums in the xml file, you can google for a windows md5sum executable for windows.
Here is a link to a good place to find the m5sums for windows7:
http://www.walkernews.net/2009/12/26/how-to-check-md5-checksum-in-windows-7/
files you will need from the leak:
cdt.bin
device_tree.bin
lbl
now once you have them in the same folder as the rest of the 2.3.5 fxz, use that exe I told you grab to get their md5 sums, and replace those numbers in the xml file in the 2.3.5 fxz, this should get you back to 2.3.5, in theory.
Jim
wtf my brain hurts already lol. I will try to do it in the morning i will inform you for the results.
i realy understand nothing at all of this. unfortunatly my phone will stay as it is.

Are you in Windows? I find Windows pretty annoying when it comes to certain drivers. You might have a look in Device Manager while your phone is plugged in(maybe check with the phone is fastboot mode too), and see if there are any Moto related drivers that have a yellow exclamation point. If so, perhaps reinstalling Device Manager will fix it? Good luck

I do have a driver installer downloaded on my computer, but I don't know if it would help you. I will attach it here just in case.
I had this issue a month back, but Moto Device Manager ended up being the solution for me. I have RSD Lite 6.1.5, and it sill recognizes my device in fastboot mode.

Yeah, I'm sure somehow that I will...thanks for the files, I'll try that now. Oh, by the way, you should check out the Dev Host site (google it), they provide free file uploading and sharing for, well, developers (or anyone for that matter). Only 500 MBs worth of storage is provided for free, but that really is all I need. Anyway, I'll try your advice and let ya know.

i dunno, just throwing out ideas here lol. otherwise, you might be able to just fastboot flash the necessary components from the FXZ file to get your setup back to stock. or else use a stock TWRP backup, then reflash stock recovery. hope you get it

You can also hold power and the camera button to enter bootloader, then choose AP Fastboot (just saying for users who may not know).

Yeah, I have no problem using TWRP or flashing stuff from Internal or External SD

damn, that sucks! did you ever check Device Manager in the Control Panel. i remember seeing a missing Moto driver there, but then again, that led me on a driver search, which led me to Moto Device Manager. did you completely uninstall it first before reinstalling it?
i dunno, just throwing out ideas here lol. otherwise, you might be able to just fastboot flash the necessary components from the FXZ file to get your setup back to stock. or else use a stock TWRP backup, then reflash stock recovery. hope you get it

Okay, now this is weird! I have my system back up and running, but I can only load it by starting the bootloader and choosing "normal startup"; otherwise my device boots into fastboot automatically every time I power down. Seems like I can't utilize stock recovery either when I flash it (otherwise I am using TWRP). My entire purpose behind unrooting and going back to stock was to update to JB as I participated in Moto's soak test. I am still stumped...?
System Up, Stock Recovery Down
Guess I'll try re-flashing the bootloader? or a version from a different/newer image?

hmm ok, that's good you made some progress, not sure what's up there. which file did you restore with RSD? i tried restoring the asa14 one last night and got an error immediately, but i'm not sure if i edited the xml properly.
so what i ended up doing was restoring this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33942232&postcount=12. it will restore everything to the original factory firmware that came with the phone.... except for the system. but i had already restored the stock system with a TWRP backup posted by rangerbry, so it was ok. then i had to run the 2 OTA updates on the phone to get up to the most recent official release. it's a bit convoluted, but it's an option, hehe.

I think the problem is with the cdrom...my phone keeps booting into AP fastboot automatically like I said...and I was never able to get RSD Lite to recognize my device, so I only used fastboot and TWRP. RSD Lite is sadly not an option for me at this point...
Oh, the image that I previously restored with RSD was odexed and purely stock, ASA 14-15 Sprint. Now it wont read in RSD...

Something else that I totally overlooked...the red Motorola ripple boot animation doesn't even play anymore! It goes right to the sprint_bootanimation...something's not quite right in Moto Land!

Stock recovery still not functioning, but phone doesn't auto load fastboot anymore. Still can only load system from bootloader. But also TWRP doesn't disappear after reboot. I flashed cdrom, but is what is the extension? Is it a .img, or is it supposed to be? In details it just said "file".

[DEV][WIP]XT532 Bootloader and Fastboot on XT530

WARNING: THIS SBF MIGHT HARDBRICK YOUR XT530 AS REPORTED BY ONE OF THE USERS THAT TRIED. I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE OR LIABLE IF YOU HAVE HARDBRICKED YOUR PHONE! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
@zhalx and @inyong1 I made compiled a SBF that contains XT532 Bootloader and Fastboot Mode. In some XT530 threads it claims that it can
Code:
fastboot boot
properly and doesn't have problems with flash huge system.img files to /system partition.
As I don't own a XT530, I need any experienced XT530/XT531 users to test it for me.
When you flash the SBF would anyone give me the screenshot of what the phone says when you flash the XT532 Bootloader and also a screenshot of RSD-Lite when you flash the SBF. Thanks.
I've made two test SBF's to see which one works. Please reply and tell me which test works. For e.g. if Test 1 soft bricks your phone then flash back your XT530/XT531 SBF and try test 2.
Instructions:
1. Download the Test 1 and Test 2 attachments.
2. Unzip the SBF out of the zip file.
3. Make sure all Motorola Drivers are installed.
4. Make sure RSD-Lite v5.6 and above is installed.
5. Power down your device.
6. Put your phone in flash-mode by pressing Power Button, Volume Down and Camera button simultaneously.
7. Now flash the Test SBF using RSD-Lite.
NOTE: You will get errors on your screen when you flash the SBF because it doesn't contain the successive MBN's to flash to the phone. Just disconnect the battery and put it back in. If your phone refuses to turn on then flash back your stock SBF.
I feel happy to know you are still trying for this. I can not try it now because my computer died.
may be suhu @zhalx or some one else.
Btw are you using whatsapp man?

I think that battery is worn out? You can't hardbrick due to locked bootloader.
@rootdefyxt320 can you build 2ndboot binary for our fire xt530/531. Please.
,,,,,,,,
by the way, what chat application are you using?. I use whatsapp, Catfiz (nic:2ED3D003F4) and ym (ID: upriecs)

Also, my main computer has died so I don't have a Linux system up and running.
2ndboot doesn't work for Qualcomm as it targeted for OMAP. The good thing about Qualcomm BP's is that they can be restarted without panicking, so we can use kexec instead. I got to learn how to compile modules first before moving onto this stuff. Sorry, I don't use a chat application.

*** I never this SBF would hardbrick XT530. The only advice I can tell him is to send it off to the service centre

Does the phone vibrate when you connect to the computer? If it does means that the phone is soft-bricked and we can flash a SBF to revive it.
This method hardbricks the device. It is advised not to use it. An IC (maybe software one) breaks and becomes liquid upon flashing. Therefore, the only solution to it is motherboard replacement.
